Why DE KLASSIEKER is One of Europe’s MOST HEATED Rivalries | Roots of the Rivalry
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 май 2024
- De Klassieker is the biggest rivalry in Dutch football, pitting AFC Ajax of Amsterdam up against Feyenoord Rotterdam. The biggest teams from the biggest cities in the Netherlands, where an inter-city rivalry carries onto the football pitch as the grit of Rotterdam clashes with the glamour of Amsterdam. Then, the rivalry was continued thanks to various flash points, such as Johann Cruyff - an Ajax and football legend - joining rivals Feyenoord, and winning the league. Steven Berghuis going from Feyenoord to Ajax, the Battle of Beverwijk, and more. All of these contribute to De Klassieker being one of Europe’s most intense rivalries.

Feyenoord just won the klassieker, and like kokcu said “they think they are the best but we are the ones taking 3 points back home. No words but deeds” which is also the motto of Feyenoord.
you cant win them all, i think you forgot to say that this was the first time since 18(!) years feyenoord won at ajax's home ground. Let's not get too cocky because feyenoord is having a good season, we have the most wins and most trophies for a reason. It's not cockiness but simply factual.
@@sens125 please, stop calling Feyenoord supporters cocky for celebrating this....
Ajax has double the budget of Feyenoord, so yes, its only once in 18 years, but it should not even happen at all....

Ajax has the trophies and the money, Feyenoord has the fans the passion
Feyenoord has also won the European Championship and the World Championship, as well as two UEFA Cups and 15 national championships. Ajax has had even more success winning trophies, but it would be a disservice to say that Feyenoord only has fans and passion.
@@prikkeldraad7112 not what I meant. And no offence intended, feyenoord is a team I go to watch 👍

Yes it’s true that Ajax are the most successful club in The Netherlands winning the most titles and trophies, it’s also true that Feyenoord was the first Dutch Club to win The Euro Cup 1 ( now known as the Champions League ) The Intercontinental Cup and the UEFA Cup, plus being the first Dutch Club to reach the final of the Conference League. Now to me one of the biggest differences between Ajax and Feyenoord is there fans, while there are of course on both sides diehard supporters who support their teams through and through, there are many so called Ajax “fans” that are only interested the club when things are going well, while Feyenoord fans go even when things are not going well at all . when Feyenoord lost 10-0 against P.S.V Eindhoven in 2010, De Kuip was still sold out for there next competition match, that’s how loyal Feyenoord fans are.
Feyenoord was almost done, Vrienden van Feyenoord have reach there helping hands and money to survive. Even in that hard period, De Kuip was sold out. Also a fact, Feyenoord have the most fans in Holland. 2017 when the became the champion of the Eredivisie, a sms alert for whole Holland was send out. 150k+ people where in Rotterdam to celebrate it. I was there, and trust me: it was insane. Feyenoord fans are amazing, and im proud to be one. Not that hard when u saw De Wolff playing in ur Youth period
Ajax won more champions leagues and championships and it isnt a positive things that feyenoord was the first club to reach the finale of the conference league because in the same season ajax was in the champions league, youre opinion is one of the stupidest things ive ever heard, doing something as first doesnt mean youre better
Currently Feyenoord also has a lot of successupporters don’t be so delusional🤣
When I look at this rivalry, it's a bit like Marseille vs PSG. I'm a Marseillais born and raised and grew up hating PSG. The classique is pretty recent but it has the same animosity as the Klassieker : two cities which hate each other. Paris is like Amsterdam while Marseille is like Rotterdam.
My dad is an Ajax fan and likes Netherlands. I might buy a Feyenoord jersey just to mess with him.
Nice video, I learnt a lot about these cities and clubs.
Psg only exist since 1970.
@@1337menno The football rivalry is recent, indeed. But the rivalry between both cities has always been there. In Marseille, we have the Fort Saint Nicolas which was built under Louis XIV's orders because there was too much revolts in Marseille. Paris has always feared Marseille since it has become part of France.

You could have also mentioned how twin brothers Jurrien Timber and Quinten Timber represent Ajax and Feyenoord respectively.
Must be a fun family get together 😅
well since both came from Feyenoord Youth Program i highly doubt that.
you know, about 5 years ago, I started consistently watching Eredivisie.
I got in mostly neutral, since I live very close to Rotterdam, Feyenoord would obviously become a very easy choice but I decided to just give all teams a go before actually "picking" a favourite.
I still ended up with absolutely loving Feyenoord.
The biggest reason being that when I visited a match, I completely fell in love with the atmosphere in the stadium...
It'll probably sound very biased but Feyenoord easily has the best atmosphere during matches in the entire country, and its not even close...
The amount of support from "het legioen" is something you won't see very much.

@@Redranger877 idk about 'the better team'. Ajax have been sensational lately. And I'm saying that as a PSV fan, so I don't really want either to win (though Feyenoord has my preference).
When I was growing up in and near Amsterdam in the '90, close to where the old stadium De Meer was and the training complex was not far from my school in Diemen. There was always a kid at school that got picked up with the Ajax van to bring them to the training. Something of the old Ajax culture was lost when they moved to The Arena in de Bijlmer.

@@rw9571 You’re so right, my experience is the exact same lol
@@rw9571 that’s because you’re so full of yourselves
I am a big Feyenoord supporter and I think Feyenoord and Ajax are both beautiful and iconic football clubs. I'm not from Rotterdam and not from Amsterdam, but I'm from the east of the Netherlands. And as someone who does not come from the big city, I can say that Feyenoord has much more charm for me than Ajax.
The big difference is that we at Feyenoord don't live for the prizes. Feyenoord is part of the city and whether they win prizes or not: the feeling for Feyenoord does not diminish. Unfortunately, that feeling is so strong that sometimes aggression is involved and I detest that, but in the end I always come back to the magical feeling that Feyenoord can give. And for me that is the biggest and most important difference between Feyenoord and Ajax. In the Netherlands I think you have comparable smaller clubs to Feyenoord, such as Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente. But in my opinion Feyenoord can also be compared to clubs such as Celtic, Saint-Etienne, Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis, etc.
If I also listen to the people I know personally who say they are for Ajax, then I think that they depend far too much on success. Visiting an Ajax match is a day out for many people, while there are many more supporters at Feyenoord who really have a bond or feeling with the club.
For me.. I fell in love with the football that Ajax stands for. I don't care about trophies, only about the European ones

I never comment on videos, but man this was really good. Very enjoyable, two guests from both clubs that seem intelligent, and it seems although both clubs dislike each other they respect each other both as dutch representatives.
I live in NL (Hilversum) and have been to both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The best place out of the two, by a very long way, is Rotterdam. Amsterdam people are ignorant, arrogant and defensive. Rotterdam's folks will engage in a conversation, aren't poncey and generally good company whilst the beers go down. Newcastle-upon-Tyne is still better tho'. Howay the lads!
Lastig voor je met zoveel ex Amsterdammers als buren? 😂
You don't give this guy enough credit, you all backed down leaving him behind in that "battle of beverwijk" putting a black page on all supporters. I think Feyenoord will be champion because they have the better team and play better football. It will be a miracle because Feyenoord is working with a smaller budget as well.
Don’t think it’s much of a miracle. Ajax had/has to deal with managerial switches this season. I think the way Ajax spent their money was not what Ajax should do. I think the club should give plenty of room to the youngsters as we’ve always done. But buying so many players has made us lose good youth products. Danilo lacked game time so he transferred to Feyenoord. Doekhi was an academy player once and now he helped knock us out of Europe. Ajax not respecting their traditional ways seems to backfire.
@@jarmoliebrand2005 What did they get with Antony's money? They got a defender who can't play football for 23 million euros and 12 million for Sanchez, a very bad right wing defender from Mexico. Bergwijn 26 million and Brobbey 20 million & griellish 6 have not yet achieved much.

There are a lot of Feyenoord supporters who won't agree with this Feyenoord supporter, especially some older ones.
Feyenoord was very known in the seventies for their highly technical game. It's true that the supporters and fans are mostly hard workers and have that mentality off course, but Feyenoord had a lot of very skilled players as well. For example: Robin van Persie. In my youth I was a big fan of Shinji Ono of which Wesley Sneijder later said that it was the best player he played against.
Both are known for their awesome skills and intelligence. Also one that I really liked was Julio Ricardo Cruz, also a really smart and refined player.
Before my time there was Ruud Gullit for example or even Ed de Goeij :p
But hard work is always needed to make it as a pro footballer, now even more than ever.

They always act like Ajax also doesn’t have working class roots in Amsterdam Oost it’s not all glits and glamour. Likewise Feyenoord is also not just made up of harbour workers, there are many big business men who own companies in the docks.
Even large parts of central amsterdam were ghettos back in the 80s
Of course! And there are many big companies in Rotterdam as well!
Amsterdam Noord, all people who worked at the NDSM harbor.
Ajax has alot going for it. So does Rotterdam. I've visited both cities and they both have a indentity all its own.
The Johan Cruijf Arena is a beautiful football grounds, modern, well set up, accesible and from the outside view its abit tame in my personal experience, which is what I experienced going out in Amsterdam. Relaxed people, open, international.
But Feyenoords grounds, De Kuip is a old beast that even after renovations still has that hard old core the city that houses it is known for. It has something thats hard to explain, its gritty, its mean, its rolled up armsleeves. Its small backalleys along old 60's brick family housings. You've got to be able to take a joke or a shove, because the Kuip does not tollerate weakness, it thunders and roars.
I just knew Dirk Kuyt was gonna come up as soon as Adrian talked about Feyernord supporters valuing hard work 😂😂
