I had a 73 when I was young, pretty much the same car, loved that car. I commend you boys for trying to save it and put it back on the road. Thank ypu.
that is a 318 small block all big block have front distributor
I thought the 400 is considered a small block also?
@@davidwellman7080 no a 400 used in chargers that year is a big block with the front dis that is on a slant the 360 is the biggest small block they made. YES you get a 400 in these cars but they look like a 383 &440
The key thing is most big block engines has a 4 barrel carb.
What ever you do, DO NOT remove the A/C from this car.
You lucky $%$# like finding treasure !. Not only nostalgia
Nice it started
Even though they are not original I love the kidney bean style slot mag wheels.
I got a 1972 Dodge charger my grandpa's car and he died a couple years ago car has been sitting in the field ever since and recently made my brother went got it back on Road and your video inspired me😊
43:00 If you rotate the distributor the way it rotates, that is delaying the timing. So, in this case the circular arrow points clockwise from the top so to advance it you have to turn it counter clockwise from the top.
Probably a small block 318 or 360.
Don't be discouraged. I drove a 318 26 foot motor home up the Cajon pass (notorious long 6 percent grade) and it pulled great.
Good job boys !!
I had a 73 and 74 se
The weak spot of the 318 is the timing cover. It is a cast aluminum piece that goes between the block and the water pump. Water passes through all three in two locations. If that corrodes right where it seals to the block or right where it seals to the water pump, you will lose water into the sump of the engine or squirt it on the ground, respectively. So you will want to inspect that area after you take off the water pump, at least the front.
Small Block Chrysler LA engine. The 318 cubic inch flavor........Find the build sheet under the back seat. Also the metel card on the driver side under the hood. Also the Electronic ignition and bucket seats with the SE trim package is cool.
The rear axle on a 400 car in that year is the much desired 8 3/4, which from the rear has a smooth round center section with no bolts showing. The bolts are on the front side near the universal joint.
By contrast, the 8 1/4 axle comes on 318 cars. It has a cover held on by bolts and you can see the bolts from the back of the car. Ten bolts I believe.
Now there's a channel name... "Turds n' Rust" 🤣🤣🤣
When you block every vacuum port, it is possible to miss the two most obvious ones. The brake booster and the PCV. I had a brake booster go bad and the car would not idle. I could only drive it home by blocking off the port on the intake.
The clue was that the brake pedal went hard as a rock.
I have never had a pcv go bad, but it does happen. Also, it can be bad with little way of knowing. The cheap ones sold today at the parts stores are more likely to be bad than 50 year old ones from the factory.
Look on the dash vin and see if the 5th digit is a p,m,n = 400 if it’s a G =318
I am going to guess that it was always a 318 car. 73 and newer B bodies use a different K member for small block vs big block and it would be rather difficult to swap between them. Also, the engine appears to be decorated exactly as a 318 would be in 1973.
A 318 used a shorter trans which would need a different driveshaft.
What is the 5th digit of the vin? Also, every Mopar guy expects to see a fender tag. The Vin is repeated on the bottom row of the fender tag.
Glad you got the trunk open without drilling the lock. This car is easy to access the lock by going into the trunk from the back seat, so no need to drill or pound out a lock. And the pins can be swapped around in the trunk and door locks, or , better yet, a new key created by a locksmith. Locksmiths are pretty rare these days, but you might find a real one on line.
Lol that engine probably a 5.2 or 5.9 its not 400 most likely its a 5.2
I guess you better put the right spark plugs in it.?😊
Good stuff (SUBd)
Use scrubbing bubbles spray on interior
I used too have 1 just like it. Except mine was blue.
They came with hideaway. Headlights
If you’re going to be a RUclips presenter, make sure you know what you’re talking about because that is not a 400 big block under the hood that is a small block engine oil stick in the front small block oil dipstick on the side big block distributor in the front of the motor big block distributor in the back of the motor small block
We corrected ourselves midway through the video
That's what I thought he said 400 than when they vacuumed all the grass out it revealed a 318 or a360 small block.they will learn sooner or later.😮🎉❤
If your going to be a youtube commenter make sure you proof read your comment before posting to make sure you dont make yourself look foolish by saying things like “engine oil stick” and “big block distributor in the front of the motor big block distributor in the back of the motor small block” 😂
@@omgbbqcia911 thank you for pointing out my grammatical errors next time I will proofread at least three times before I hit post
If you can help them then do, bring em’ along. Nobody starts out knowing it all.
Keep going guys, digging it so far
What part of the state are y’all located
American muscle, this is American muscle. A new hit me in there. Get a nice new coat of paint. Put it on a nice new frame frying for this speak. It's a nice little crazier l I d lights
Sounds pretty good to me. Potential
Sounds like someone been watching to much vice grip garage and copying it.funny😂
If you didn’t know it wasn’t a 400 you would have found out once you tried to put the 400 big block plugs into a 318 ……..I call bull
The plugs were different, 318 plugs were longer. That’s what made us look at the numbers on the block to verify what engine it was
It'll buff out
A 360. Cid?
i hate to be that guy, but here i go. that is a 318- 360 at best, 400s are big blocks.
maybe i need to watch the whole video before i open my big mouth, lol sorry guys.

Chrysler product ,don't waste your time .
You need to take a trip to the bathroom because you are full of it
@@Lipmonster I don't know how old you are but I was around when these cars came out ,they were not what you might call top shelf .
your wrong.
Hey, you, I'm a mechanic for fourty one years. Just don't shit Chevy, ok? If you are only a consumer. Chevy along with other American cars has it's shortcomings. Why show me an American branded cars which had no record of recalls. Here in our country, Chevy was named bestselling car of the year ten times. And as a mechanic I agree.
@@BOEHHO89 they all had there problems back then, didn't matter if it was GM, Ford or Mopar, Ford had issues with ignition switches catching fire, dura spark issues, a so so braking system on some models, Chevy's were oil burning turds, and ate up flywheels along with a weak camshaft and valvtrain, Mopars had weak front ends and ignitions in the early years, the lean burn was a mistake also, and that dreaded starter turururur that most hated, I grew up in that time, I will say I've never had a cam go flat in My Mopars and never replaced a starter.
