Kevin, I would love to see you give this car back to the original owner, I would also like to see you give updates on what he is doing with it. I got rid of a car years ago and regretted it ever since so when I found it again I promptly bought it back.
It’s nice to find the original owners of that car, I actually bought an old Ford pick up, and come to find out my uncle may have owned it years ago.
It has a big dent in the door.... When my dad was doing survivor duty after the Vietnam war, he was pretty upset at one point and punched a big dent in the door of his Plymouth Satellite. I'm sure his hand wasn't feeling great after that. So watching this video is making me think about my Dad.... Rest in peace Dad.
@@big_joe33 nope. That was in Massachusettes.
Thanks to your dad. A hard job for sure. I hope he's at peace with all his brothers.
I mean you have a 440 in a boat that you don’t really use 🫡🫡
@@allmomomosthomebus3895 I'm close to there haha
Rest in peace, I too lost my dad 3yrs ago last Sunday, my condolences to you and your family
Kevin - the call you made to the original owner of the Satellite is one of those events that effortlessly renews my faith in humanity. Despite the efforts made by some to convince us to the contrary, the number of complete strangers out there who are genuinely decent, engaging, and willing to help us, or accept help from us, vastly overwhelm the small percentage of people who could not be bothered. Plus, it's always great to get the backstory on a cool car you and Mook wrench on - all the best from Wes in Pittsburgh!
That’s so true. So many good and decent people out there, and it seems the general media on all sides try to make us think differently.
@@peteshrake Amen to that.
We're all just humans, it's the elites/media/government that wants us divided.
That was my favorite
@@peteshrake
Glad Tom eventually made it onto the channel :)
the fact the man winter stored it explains why it is in such good condition. That 318 is still pretty healthy too.
In Iowa that is a 100% must if you want something to last more than 20 years. Ask me how I know. LOL!
It was great listening to Jeff explain the history of this car.
I'm looking forward to seeing more episode's on this Satellite.
Finding the original owner and being able to connect with them is the most awesome thing I've seen in a LONG time. Almost brings a tear to my eye. 👍🏻
Really cool that you were able to speak with the original owner. Jeff seems like a super nice guy, would love to see him reunited with his old car.
Definitely want to see a follow up of him getting his old car back
Yeah that'd be so cool if he gets it all waxed up and shiny and gets the taillights and bumper in the back goes up and visits the original owner it would be really cool.
Kind of like doing genealogy. 😀
Absolutely
Yo yall remember the limo lol
Yeah, wonder what is happening with that. Weren't they gonna motor swap it at some point?
They could lift it like the wrencher
I wanted that limo lol
@@joshreyburn988 me to
Yes
I always think finding out info about these old cars from past owners is really cool, and makes a lot of things about the car add up. Good video as always kevin!
Sometimes the story about the car makes the car even cooler.
I got goosebumps listening to Jeff explain the history of the car, freaking awesome!
I love story’s like this. I tracked my dads RRC down 20 years after he sold it, it needed an entire restoration of course, many parts of which I roped him in to help with. Along the way he would make so many comments like “I remember making that bracket” “I never liked the way it did that” “I always wanted to do to it what you have done”
RRC? range rover classic? How did it not dissolve away?
You tracking the previous owners down makes me want to do that with my '79 F100. The previous owner said she bought it off her neighbor in the 90s, and beyond that, it's a mystery to me. Sanding it down for fresh paint revealed that it had white pinstriping all over the original paint, with "Bud H." written in script below the driver door window. This video might just motivate me to track Bud down
That would be awesome to find out who did that!
Kevin's face when the car drove was priceless. The fact that there was no seat and he looked like the 10 year old that stole his daddy's keys for a joyride made the whole thing hilarious!
Hey there Kevin & Mook from Queensland Australia, First of all I have never left comments before so bare with me. I ve been mechanic for about 38 years and in the last couple of years I started to lose my passion for the trade, I found your channel about 12 months ago and have watched almost all of your videos from the beginning, your knowledge and compassion for old vehicles and machinery is fantastic, your in depth explanations are second to none, in saying that I want to thank you because watching you work, brought back many fond memories and I have finally got my passion back for the trade, I have been looking for old machinery and vehicles and have been enjoying myself working on them unfortunatey not all were in good enough condition but the passion is the journey. We dont have the variety of cars here that you guys have but its still fun. So enough of that, listening to your conversation with the original owner just shows how awesome you are and the respect you have for people, keep up the wonderful work and I look forward to watching more from you and Mook, I would love to get over ther one day and meet you in person. NOT AT ANY OF YOUR PRIVATE LOCATIONS 🤣🤣🤣😉 cheers.
I'm glad we could keep you turning wrenches!
@@JunkyardDigs Being an Aussie I call it swinging spanners, but all means the same, keep on wrenching
Your not the only Aussie they have inspired i have been watching for years and i want to become a mechanic
That's one hell of a cool looking car, definitely a candidate for a full on engine and body restoration. Keep up the great work Kevin and JYD team. Would love to see a Harley revival just to mix things up a little.
Absolutely loving the mopars on the channel! 4 barrel carb with 4 barrel intake with 727 Tranmission and 3.55 posi rear-end should do that Beautiful car really good! Can't wait to see part 2!
I think that the 440 from the boat should go into this boat. More bigger is almost always more better.
YES!!
Yup!
pretty good idea, motor mounts, trans mount, exhaust, 727 trans in big blocks and small blocks but not sure of bolt patterns, BTW 727 trans was the last good automatic transmission Chrysler built. all the rest are crap.. been there done that
He probably wants to give the car back with the original engine.
Reverse rotation unfortunately
Hard labor, taking a break, Kevin uploads, very happy. 🤘
I love how you work through the toughest of ‘will it runs’ but still have to respect the body shop guys abilities.
And the back story of the car is excellent!
What are the chances of that?
👏
Oh any idiot can make a car run! Building a fast car, or making one look good, is a whole different deal
Hey Kevin, mist your buffing surface with a little water…your surface was a little too dry and the compound was building up. That’ll disappear and keep buffing once a little water is introduced
I bought a 68 Impala with no title from my wife’s uncles little junkyard and i found an old registration in the glove box, looked up the name and called them. They lived like 5 miles from the junkyard! They said give them a few days, then said come on by and grab this title. Real nice folks, that’s Arkansas/Oklahoma people for you.
I got goosebumps listening to Jeff explain the history of the car, freaking awesome!
Love being able to see these classics move under there own weight after so long. Keep doing what you do man!
@ My Cancer Journey man you really like Windows 95s three random 90 sec videos huh?
Man it would be epic to see you and Mook do a drag and drive. Even if you're not in one of the fast categories would still be great content. Stroke this thing to a 348 with a cam heads would be a hoot. Or drop a truck V10 in er 🤪
Edit: the Old Milwaukee can is definitely early 90s so that fits with the oil jug
Having stocked many a 12 pack into a cooler with that exact design, can confirm, early to mid 90s on that Old Milwaukee design.
I don’t think putting a V10 and then giving it back to the original owner is in the works.
@@vincedibona4687 yeah I commented that before I finished the video lol
Working on these wonderful cars must be so therapeutic especially when you bring them back to life? Great work guys as always
I can't wait to see it buffed out it's going to look fantastic. That was awesome the way you tracked the original owner down, sounded like a really cool guy. Good stuff you rock Kevin.
Yes! New video from Kevin and Mook. Friday night saved.
Make sure to send Jeff the link to your channel so he can follow these videos and see you bring his car to its former glory!
in 1990 I bought a 1967 Pontiac GTO, in shitbox Orange, I spent 5 years restoring it, and rebuilding it. It had a big ass knuckle dent in the drivers door, I found the OO, and his story was He caught his GF at the time cheating on him, and punched the door, instead of her. Like Kevin, I sold the Goat back to the OO, for basically what I put into the car.
I bet when he told him in this video that he was gonna send him the link to this video at the end of the week that he would watch his videos.
Iowa is having tornadoes right now. I hope you two are safe.
This (central) part of the state had some strong thunderstorms but no tornados.
Just found/watched your video and being a happy Mopar guy with a 71 Sat/RR tribute I enjoyed this more than you know..I know, another weird Mopar nut. My 318 a/t is gone and replaced with a 1970 warmed over 383 and pistol grip next to my bench seat. White over black ( no I’m not racist)
I’m signed up now so keep it coming..
At about twenty minutes in, and that clunking sound sounds a lot like my 1989 Dakota I just bought and am fixing up. My torque converter was hanging on by two bolts. That'd be my guess. Also, torque converter is still hanging on by two bolts. Haven't had the chance to drop the trans and put a new converter in. Two converter bolt holes are stripped/missing. It's a hoopty but it's my hoopty.
The fact that you found the original owner is just amazing. This is great.
I just got home from the hospital getting my appendix removed and what do I find to make me feel better, a Junkyard digs video. You and Mook always brighten my day. Your so fun to watch. Keep putting out the videos and I'll keep watching.
I've been there myself, speedy recovery to ya!
Mook says try not to laugh, words of experience 😂
@@JunkyardDigs Too late, I've already watched your video, but thanks for the thought.
Hope you feel better soon
Great video Kevin! Those old Mopars don't like to die... The best part about this video is that car was able to tell some of the story of it's life by supplying that partial registration of the 1st owner & and your persistence to dig into the story. Ironically, the name of your channel has always tweaked me in the same way when I'm at the salvage yard and see an interesting car and wondered what stories it would tell if it could.
I'll bring a sixer of Old Milwaukee next time I'm up, you'll hate me soon thereafter
As a hillbilly from VA living in Brisbane Aus, it's super cool to see the "Sick Puppy" decal on your toolbox in background😂👍🍻🇺🇸🤪😎
That's so rad that you got a hold of the original owner. Thanks for sharing that part with us👍
You my man are the tip of the spear with your knowledge and skill to show the younger generation that it’s pretty easy to work on your own stuff keep up the good work
Thank you! I appreciate this 🤘
@@JunkyardDigs you are the main inspiration for me to purchase a classic car (besides myself lol), and I’m on the brink of doing it. As soon as I do, I’m going to watch your videos for tips. You rock!
(To restore the car)
71 is my favorite year of the 3rd gen Plymouth B-bodies. And of course it will run, you cannot kill a 318, just like a Ford 300. It may not be very fast, though... also like a Ford 300😛
And that "twa- twang!" from the hood springs when Mook opened it really took my back to all the years and miles (over 400k) I put on my 73 Satellite from 1980 to the late 1990s.
where I live hear in Atlantic Canada, old iron like this just isnt seen anymore. The salt from the roads and oceans rotted this stuff out years ago. To find any 60s to 90s cars that isnt rotted in a field is rare
I'm chasing my first car to see if the guy will sell it back to me..he used it as a parts car.but now of days I can buy every single part and put it back together..who would have known 20 years later it sits 2 blocks from my mother's house.
Definitely would love to see a build on this car...My older brother had one with the 383 HO, it ran quite well. Would really love to see a gen III hemi swap...lol
It's always a great day when you guys upload. This Satellite will fit the Ramp truck perfectly
It's awesome that you found the original owner. Can't wait to see how it turns out when completed and seeing the original owners smile
What dragstrip are you planning on taking it to? Humbolt or Cedar Falls? I've been debating on cobbling something together myself just for fun.
She came from Planet Claire, I knew she came from there She drove a Plymouth Satellite, faster than the speed of light ~ B52's, "Planet Claire"
Cool video! It's amazing that you found the original owner (who was a really nice guy) and changed your plans on the fly... Looking forward to future videos featuring continued improvements to this blast from the past!
I had one of these in that dark olive green you see on a lot of Mopars of this era (also had a '69 Charger SE same color), with a 318 and column auto, back in the late '80s when I was collecting clunkers and getting 'em (more or less) roadworthy. It would definitely be cool to have one again, love the body style. Thanks for the entertaining. :-)
I love this body style! I had a 71 GTX it was a great car
Since you got a Plymouth satellite you need to check out this song from The b-52's called planet Claire and they talk about in Plymouth satellite faster than the speed of light.....
28:30 lol
as he said “Holy crap!!”, a sweet 80s El Camino drove by my house, and it had Iowa plates (I live in Minnesota)
This was a joy to see & you're doing a super admirable thing for the OG owner!! Random but i noticed at the very end, the rad cap was just foaming with that green coolant, doing it's absolute best lol. Stoked to see part 2!
Oh yeah, we have some work to do 😂
I can never go a day without watching you guys. You guys are awesome. 🔥 🎆
get a job
Returning this car to its original owner will be the best video on your channel, guaranteed. That is one hell of a story.
The most excited I've been about one for a long time!
If you do sell it back to the original owner and he can't afford it you should do a gofundme. I think it would be really cool to see my old car I bought brand new get fixed up on youtube. He defiantly cared about it since he stored it so well
love and respect from Australia, this is the very best auto channel on You Tube and 2nd place is a long way back ,down to earth people not pretending to be anything else than what you see ,no funny names for engine parts and from what ive seen so far your delivery is still the same from 1st video to the latest ,the way you and Mook work together is OUTSTANDING ,new subscriber glad to be here
Absolute dime of a car! Glad to see it move again, I've always had a soft spot for Plymouths
How JYD doesn’t have an enormous global following is beyond me but content like this is why I love Kevin and his channel. I don’t think I would have the confidence to work on my 2000 Dakota R/T without Kev!
Almost a millions subscribers for a small grassroots channel is fantastic. Most who watch these channels don’t subscribe anyways.
Australia isn't global? 😂
Do you not understand that RUclips is global?
LMFAO
@@samholdsworth420 I didn’t attack you. I did not come after you. There is no reason to try to disrespect my comment with a poorly thought out response.
@@carterlee5743 no need to get upset. I was just stating the fact that RUclips is a global platform that anyone can use
This is gonna be a great series to follow, love it when old mopars get to live and be enjoyed as they should be.
Well, this is one way to clean up a car for the ACTUAL owner...
All he has to do is get the title reissued and then claim it - right?
Keep the old Mopar starter they are getting hard to find and someone looking for a numbers matching starter for there build there will still be a possibility to find one.
Too heckin' cool that you got in touch with the original owner, this car deserves to be saved.
Very cool that this car came from your hometown and that you found the original owner. It really is in remarkably good condition being a Mopar. I'm not a fan but I do have a 97 Dodge with a 360 Magnum four-by-four pick up with 200,000 miles still going strong. I love your videos and the work that you do. Keep it up and be safe 👍✌️🇺🇲
Kevin, I think you should pull the 440 out of the boat and swap it I to this Satellite.
I agree
Another dry start on a car that has been sitting, you love to ruin classic engines......
Expecting a modern car to start right up after so long is like expecting a turd not to smell ...
I absolutely love the story behind this car and can't wait to see more restoration work done to it!
Watching your channel Kevin (and Mook) is always the highlight of my Friday evening! Love the channel!
Love what you do man , you're a good dude . God bless and keep doing what you do best !
Got a 84 d150 with a 318 I pulled from a field a couple months ago and since I live in Arkansas with little salt use it is super clean and I am loving the mopar content.
After the 2nd gen these cars were so ugly its a shame. Then the severely under powered engines.
Being a survivor in such solid condition it is so ripe for a quality restoration!
Love it! Y'all inspired me to start fiddlin' with (hopefully fixing) my car :D
What a great body style!!! Excited to see what you guys do! Cheap eBay turbo!!!!!
Last 70s mopar i took a vacuum too i sucked the whole car up only left the tires
Why do you always use brake clean instead of starting fluid? I don’t think I have ever watched a revival from any RUclipsr and seen them use starting fluid.
Brake cleaner is cheaper and because starting fluid doesn't clean your brakes and start your car! Mainly its cheaper.
I hope you're doing well after the Tornado. Stay safe.
This is easily one of the best looking cars ever made and I can’t wait to see its progress.
I have a long time subscriber Kevin and this one brought a lump to my throat. Seeing what you have plans to do with this car making a road trip to see the OG owner is just the greatest thing ever. I can't wait to see what happens next, in this series and the look on the OG owners face when he dees what you done with it. Great job!!
Junkyard digs you should fix the green Chevy c10
Are we still not talking about the disappearing clamps at 3:54 ???
This is the best Covid cure ever, love you guys🤙🏼
Covid was three years ago what the hell are you talkin about lol
@@samholdsworth420 I’ve got Covid atm😂 So the video was a pleasant surprise while I get better😂
Great video as always Kevin loved the fact that you actually located the owner that easy and everything worked out .Loik forward to the continued story 👍😎
Wow Kevin. That’s insane. From your hometown and everything. You’re such a nice guy and it shows. Love watching your vids and I always learn something. Ps and Mook 🤘⚔️

THOROUGHLY enjoyed this video! I ❤ me an old Mopar and I'm really looking forward to the rest of this saga. Keep 'em comin'!
Hey mook don't forget about the about the porcelain goddess
Another excellent video! I'm really looking forward to how this turns out.
Hi Guys, another cool video. I have a quick question, in the UK we only use sandpaper for sanding wood or rubbing down paint when decorating a house, do you really use sandpaper to clean points or is it actually wet and dry or emery cloth? Cheers :)
No we do use sandpaper as funny as it may seem, normally I personally use 120 grit automotive sandpaper but you can also use 260 grit automotive sandpaper
Someone where I live has a new old stock one of these sitting in front of their house
awsome video kevin she ran good once you changed the carb on her and the starter she definally wasnt happy in the begining lol but overall in decent shape little bit body work and maybe some paint she will come out nice and the fact you tracked down the orginal owner is cool it can get hard to track people down for old cars to get titles lol and the fact that he might buy it back from you all fixed up is awsome what a good way to make friends lol thumbs up and shared
19:20 is where it starts for the lazy ppl and whoever whants to see it running
Always amazing how well Red and Orange paint comes back to life.
From memory of the ramp truck video, I think it might give you more trouble than the Satellite will...
People who live on the coasts would never believe that telephone conversation could ever happen. Nobody would take a call from an unknown number, let alone pause their day to reminisce about an old car. That's just good fly-over country people right there.
Hello, Humans
When your mind is clear, you can be whatever you need to be, whatever you want to be. Those with mental strength will accomplish wonders.
TERRANCE OUT
Holy Crow you are so generous! I should have known that from the Grand National video you did, but it still surprises me. I absolutely love your channel and am happy to see you continue well into the future.
This is one of my favorite episodes to date. It’s so cool!
On a side note, every single wheel is different. (I think the front left one is original)
37:51 "Likes to idle, and that's it." Can relate.
Kevin, thankfully that "one year only" rust was pretty standard equipment available on all '66-74 B-bodies; finding replacement OE rust is pretty easy. Cheers!
1971 and 1972 (satellite, gtx, rr) have nearly identical body panels (grille, rear bumper/taillights (iirc), marker lights are different (minor stuff).
