Kevin, I would love to see you give this car back to the original owner, I would also like to see you give updates on what he is doing with it. I got rid of a car years ago and regretted it ever since so when I found it again I promptly bought it back.
It has a big dent in the door.... When my dad was doing survivor duty after the Vietnam war, he was pretty upset at one point and punched a big dent in the door of his Plymouth Satellite. I'm sure his hand wasn't feeling great after that. So watching this video is making me think about my Dad.... Rest in peace Dad.
Kevin - the call you made to the original owner of the Satellite is one of those events that effortlessly renews my faith in humanity. Despite the efforts made by some to convince us to the contrary, the number of complete strangers out there who are genuinely decent, engaging, and willing to help us, or accept help from us, vastly overwhelm the small percentage of people who could not be bothered. Plus, it's always great to get the backstory on a cool car you and Mook wrench on - all the best from Wes in Pittsburgh!
Yeah that'd be so cool if he gets it all waxed up and shiny and gets the taillights and bumper in the back goes up and visits the original owner it would be really cool.
I always think finding out info about these old cars from past owners is really cool, and makes a lot of things about the car add up. Good video as always kevin!
Hey there Kevin & Mook from Queensland Australia, First of all I have never left comments before so bare with me. I ve been mechanic for about 38 years and in the last couple of years I started to lose my passion for the trade, I found your channel about 12 months ago and have watched almost all of your videos from the beginning, your knowledge and compassion for old vehicles and machinery is fantastic, your in depth explanations are second to none, in saying that I want to thank you because watching you work, brought back many fond memories and I have finally got my passion back for the trade, I have been looking for old machinery and vehicles and have been enjoying myself working on them unfortunatey not all were in good enough condition but the passion is the journey. We dont have the variety of cars here that you guys have but its still fun. So enough of that, listening to your conversation with the original owner just shows how awesome you are and the respect you have for people, keep up the wonderful work and I look forward to watching more from you and Mook, I would love to get over ther one day and meet you in person. NOT AT ANY OF YOUR PRIVATE LOCATIONS 🤣🤣🤣😉 cheers.
I love story’s like this. I tracked my dads RRC down 20 years after he sold it, it needed an entire restoration of course, many parts of which I roped him in to help with. Along the way he would make so many comments like “I remember making that bracket” “I never liked the way it did that” “I always wanted to do to it what you have done”
You tracking the previous owners down makes me want to do that with my '79 F100. The previous owner said she bought it off her neighbor in the 90s, and beyond that, it's a mystery to me. Sanding it down for fresh paint revealed that it had white pinstriping all over the original paint, with "Bud H." written in script below the driver door window. This video might just motivate me to track Bud down
Kevin's face when the car drove was priceless. The fact that there was no seat and he looked like the 10 year old that stole his daddy's keys for a joyride made the whole thing hilarious!
I love how you work through the toughest of ‘will it runs’ but still have to respect the body shop guys abilities. And the back story of the car is excellent! What are the chances of that? 👏
That's one hell of a cool looking car, definitely a candidate for a full on engine and body restoration. Keep up the great work Kevin and JYD team. Would love to see a Harley revival just to mix things up a little.
Absolutely loving the mopars on the channel! 4 barrel carb with 4 barrel intake with 727 Tranmission and 3.55 posi rear-end should do that Beautiful car really good! Can't wait to see part 2!

This video is something I really needed to watch. I just lost my grandfather after he fought for 45 days to stay alive (passed away last night around 11 PM, 3-31-23), and it's been tough coming to terms with the fact he's actually gone now. He had a love and respect for MOPARs that was only rivaled by one of his brothers who we lost in 2018, so seeing an old Plymouth get brought back to life for a second chance on the road is a good reminder of one of the things he loved most about cars: the simple joy of fixing them and driving them. When we found out he had been given a limited frame of time left to live (20 days at most), I switched plans from buying a Pontiac Fiero to restore (my dream car) and brought home a $400 1988 Nissan Sentra sedan that's receiving a ground-up rebuild. Kevin, your videos have helped me stay in the mindset of getting that Sentra on the road so that it can live a new life that it never got to have before. I don't think a simple "Thank you" could cover how much I appreciate your content and everything you do for the cars you save.
pretty good idea, motor mounts, trans mount, exhaust, 727 trans in big blocks and small blocks but not sure of bolt patterns, BTW 727 trans was the last good automatic transmission Chrysler built. all the rest are crap.. been there done that
I just got home from the hospital getting my appendix removed and what do I find to make me feel better, a Junkyard digs video. You and Mook always brighten my day. Your so fun to watch. Keep putting out the videos and I'll keep watching.
I have a long time subscriber Kevin and this one brought a lump to my throat. Seeing what you have plans to do with this car making a road trip to see the OG owner is just the greatest thing ever. I can't wait to see what happens next, in this series and the look on the OG owners face when he dees what you done with it. Great job!!
How do you do it Mr. Kevin ? You managed to find another insane classic sitting in a barn or garage for all that time on freakin’ Facebook. Unbelievable 🤣What, do you have an alert on your phone that notifies you when the second a barn find is posted, it goes to just your phone only in all of Iowa!!! 😁 Sir you have to take it to the next level. I think you have a winner there brother. Great job getting it running and great work tracking down the possible title . 🤞 Can’t wait to see the next video on her!!! 👍🏻
Great video Kevin! Those old Mopars don't like to die... The best part about this video is that car was able to tell some of the story of it's life by supplying that partial registration of the 1st owner & and your persistence to dig into the story. Ironically, the name of your channel has always tweaked me in the same way when I'm at the salvage yard and see an interesting car and wondered what stories it would tell if it could.
I bought a 68 Impala with no title from my wife’s uncles little junkyard and i found an old registration in the glove box, looked up the name and called them. They lived like 5 miles from the junkyard! They said give them a few days, then said come on by and grab this title. Real nice folks, that’s Arkansas/Oklahoma people for you.
Cool video! It's amazing that you found the original owner (who was a really nice guy) and changed your plans on the fly... Looking forward to future videos featuring continued improvements to this blast from the past!
71 is my favorite year of the 3rd gen Plymouth B-bodies. And of course it will run, you cannot kill a 318, just like a Ford 300. It may not be very fast, though... also like a Ford 300😛 And that "twa- twang!" from the hood springs when Mook opened it really took my back to all the years and miles (over 400k) I put on my 73 Satellite from 1980 to the late 1990s.
That’s so sweet that you found the original owner- I found my dads old tractor I hadn’t seen I was 9 a Case ih 1594, here in uk it was still getting registered for road use but I knew the licence plate number and I found it again 2 weeks ago 245 miles away from where it originally worked was an awesome feeling to see it again and finally drive it - aged 40 - 31 years later it was the one responsible for me restoring my own of the same model- can’t wait to see the road trip you’ve made the 1st owners day
I love all of your videos,, but, I gotta say, the best part of this video is the phone conversation. Great job, getting it running and driving. Stoked to watch the follow up videos.
This was a joy to see & you're doing a super admirable thing for the OG owner!! Random but i noticed at the very end, the rad cap was just foaming with that green coolant, doing it's absolute best lol. Stoked to see part 2!
My classmate back in NE Nebraska told me about the channel. Was thrilled to find this episode. In '79, when I was 16, purchased a tawny gold metallic '72 Roadrunner for $1200. On my 17th birthday, the 340 threw a rod doing 95mph at midnight. Dropped in a 360 then a 400 with the top end from a 440 magnum. Parked it in the family barn in '87, got it running in '98 and drove it to a friends barn where it has sat since. They finally began to appreciate in early '90's. I have yet to see that body style at a car show. Cannot afford to tow it 500 miles and begin restoration. Maybe someday...
I can't wait to see it buffed out it's going to look fantastic. That was awesome the way you tracked the original owner down, sounded like a really cool guy. Good stuff you rock Kevin.
Man it would be epic to see you and Mook do a drag and drive. Even if you're not in one of the fast categories would still be great content. Stroke this thing to a 348 with a cam heads would be a hoot. Or drop a truck V10 in er 🤪 Edit: the Old Milwaukee can is definitely early 90s so that fits with the oil jug
You my man are the tip of the spear with your knowledge and skill to show the younger generation that it’s pretty easy to work on your own stuff keep up the good work
@@JunkyardDigs you are the main inspiration for me to purchase a classic car (besides myself lol), and I’m on the brink of doing it. As soon as I do, I’m going to watch your videos for tips. You rock!
in 1990 I bought a 1967 Pontiac GTO, in shitbox Orange, I spent 5 years restoring it, and rebuilding it. It had a big ass knuckle dent in the drivers door, I found the OO, and his story was He caught his GF at the time cheating on him, and punched the door, instead of her. Like Kevin, I sold the Goat back to the OO, for basically what I put into the car.
You have a beautiful family, you're a blessed man! Don't forget to give your family a hug a day,.. life is short and there's no promises for what comes tomorrow!
Hell yes!!!! So freaking cool you found the original owner of the car. Looking forward to a mini series on this car, from drag to getting her all buffed out and the original owner seeing it again after almost 30 years
Very cool that this car came from your hometown and that you found the original owner. It really is in remarkably good condition being a Mopar. I'm not a fan but I do have a 97 Dodge with a 360 Magnum four-by-four pick up with 200,000 miles still going strong. I love your videos and the work that you do. Keep it up and be safe 👍✌️🇺🇲
Got a 84 d150 with a 318 I pulled from a field a couple months ago and since I live in Arkansas with little salt use it is super clean and I am loving the mopar content.
How JYD doesn’t have an enormous global following is beyond me but content like this is why I love Kevin and his channel. I don’t think I would have the confidence to work on my 2000 Dakota R/T without Kev!
@@samholdsworth420 I didn’t attack you. I did not come after you. There is no reason to try to disrespect my comment with a poorly thought out response.
Definitely would love to see a build on this car...My older brother had one with the 383 HO, it ran quite well. Would really love to see a gen III hemi swap...lol
I absolutely loved that whole phone call you had with the original owner. I love the idea of doing a road trip with the car to visit the original owner. Keep up the awesome content Kev!!!
I had one of these in that dark olive green you see on a lot of Mopars of this era (also had a '69 Charger SE same color), with a 318 and column auto, back in the late '80s when I was collecting clunkers and getting 'em (more or less) roadworthy. It would definitely be cool to have one again, love the body style. Thanks for the entertaining. :-)
Hey Digs, Small story. I recently purchased a 2000 Chevy E1500 limited edition by Starcraft Van. Been sitting in a yard for 10 years cuz it needed a fuel pump. I thought i was in for a hellava treat cuz i dont even have a lift. But this little voice inside said “check the relays” and sure enough the fuel pump relay had a black spot a prong looked blue and purple like itd been overheated. $20 and a trip to O’Reilys later, it shot back to life. I added a whole bottle of octane booster cuz it said it had half a tank of fuel in it and some new good gas and she runs like a dream. This stuff is awesome!
Really enjoy these videos, especially when you take the time to explain some of the technical aspects like you did with the starter and amperage and heat soak etc… it’s appreciated and shows not just your knowledge but willingness to help and teach others! Thanks
Satellite’s are awesome car’s....even better u found the original owner. That was 1 of the coolest parts of the video’s! And you looked pretty stoked about it also. 👍🏻 Shout out from southern Ontario 🇨🇦
Great video as always Kevin loved the fact that you actually located the owner that easy and everything worked out .Loik forward to the continued story 👍😎
I'm leaving this, as a critique, this has been your best video hands down in a very long time you didn't jump into just getting it running doing brakes and then sending it on its way you took your time you broke it down to like getting everything cleaned out. I really think that this takes you back to your roots. I've been watching you since you started and I rarely comment I really think you need to be doing more multi-part series for cars. I think you're missing out on a lot of views and content by rushing through your videos. I look forward to watching more 😎
Always love the way the 318 sounds. Grew up in a 70 Satellite with a 318 and eventually had it as a teen for a while. Sold it for $500 around 86 as a fully running car with the typical Chrysler electrical anomalies.
Just found/watched your video and being a happy Mopar guy with a 71 Sat/RR tribute I enjoyed this more than you know..I know, another weird Mopar nut. My 318 a/t is gone and replaced with a 1970 warmed over 383 and pistol grip next to my bench seat. White over black ( no I’m not racist) I’m signed up now so keep it coming..
Wow, that was epic! And so awesome that you were able to track down the original owner so easily as well; I really can't wait to see that reunion! That was a pretty decent burnout as well, and you didn't even have to anchor Jesse to the car this time to do it!😂
Love this video. It's great you tracked the original owner. In 1979 I bought my first car a '71 Satellite Sebring. Emerald green with half a vinyl top, two tone interior. 318ci 2 barrel. Trunk was real rusty. Needed a tranny after 2 mos. Wish I still had the car. Bought a second one after a fender bender for parts. pd $150 for that one. Keep up with the project!
do a video like quick complete car inventory as of now and what will go and what will stay or smth. i'd love it if fans can vote for a vehicle they wanna see most. showing nature and old cars is such a pretty combination, also there was that video that you started every car you have and it was real cool
Dude. That call to the original owner was fantastic. I caught myself with a grin ear to ear during that convo. I know you will do this car justice. And I can not wait to see this car back in the hands of its original owner. Fantastic video!
That was really neat how you found the original owner and helped him reconnect with the car. If it were me, my knowledge of engines is limited at best, I would get the wiring replaced, do a complete service, and something to give it a few more horses. It’s going to be awesome !!!
Took me a few days to catch it but this kicks so much ass. I dream to have a conversation like that one day when I can snap up an old ride. Such an awesome situation and a sweet ride. Good shit Sir!
You just can't kill those old 318's. Had one that sat up for over 20 years and no lie, fired up (just for a second) first time I hit the key. Made me a Mopar man for sure. Fix her up, drive it a while, and see where the road takes you. Great vid Kevin and Mook.
i had a 74 fury with a 318..overheated it trying to rock it out of a ditch..replaced a few bent pushrods and she ran again for another 5 years until i sold it ..those 318's and slant 6's are hard to tear up
I love satellites.........AS a young lad who watched the original Dukes of hazards as they Originally aired.......That is where my love of that era Satellite was started!!!!!!
Almost brought tears to my eyes as this video brought back memories of my 72 Challenger which also had a Mopar 318. Of all the cars I've owned over the years the Challenger was the most fun despite all its shortcomings (Carter carburetors suck and points are a PITA, don't even get me started on the freeze plugs 🙄). You're a trooper for fixing all the peripherals and getting it into shape just to pull out of the shop. That coolant leak is ominous though, it's probably internal as well as external. And the seals are probably shot, not telling you anything you don't already know. Am eager for the next video to see if that engine is still road worthy. Very interesting - great content!
Always amazing how well Red and Orange paint comes back to life. From memory of the ramp truck video, I think it might give you more trouble than the Satellite will...
Love watching this content I am from the UK and seeing these old American cars come back to life and how different they are to anything we had in the UK is reason to keep watching. If you start shipping merch to the UK i am buying.
If you do sell it back to the original owner and he can't afford it you should do a gofundme. I think it would be really cool to see my old car I bought brand new get fixed up on youtube. He defiantly cared about it since he stored it so well
where I live hear in Atlantic Canada, old iron like this just isnt seen anymore. The salt from the roads and oceans rotted this stuff out years ago. To find any 60s to 90s cars that isnt rotted in a field is rare
I love mopars and have owned many. I like the idea of a cam , headers, and an intake, but you need to put heads on it to make it run. Maybe pistons too if you really wanna go crazy! Good luck!

Or drop a truck V10 in er 🤪
Edit: the Old Milwaukee can is definitely early 90s so that fits with the oil jug
Having stocked many a 12 pack into a cooler with that exact design, can confirm, early to mid 90s on that Old Milwaukee design.
I don’t think putting a V10 and then giving it back to the original owner is in the works.
@@vincedibona4687 yeah I commented that before I finished the video lol
You my man are the tip of the spear with your knowledge and skill to show the younger generation that it’s pretty easy to work on your own stuff keep up the good work
Thank you! I appreciate this 🤘
@@JunkyardDigs you are the main inspiration for me to purchase a classic car (besides myself lol), and I’m on the brink of doing it. As soon as I do, I’m going to watch your videos for tips. You rock!
(To restore the car)
Make sure to send Jeff the link to your channel so he can follow these videos and see you bring his car to its former glory!
in 1990 I bought a 1967 Pontiac GTO, in shitbox Orange, I spent 5 years restoring it, and rebuilding it. It had a big ass knuckle dent in the drivers door, I found the OO, and his story was He caught his GF at the time cheating on him, and punched the door, instead of her. Like Kevin, I sold the Goat back to the OO, for basically what I put into the car.
I bet when he told him in this video that he was gonna send him the link to this video at the end of the week that he would watch his videos.
You have a beautiful family, you're a blessed man! Don't forget to give your family a hug a day,.. life is short and there's no promises for what comes tomorrow!
Hell yes!!!! So freaking cool you found the original owner of the car. Looking forward to a mini series on this car, from drag to getting her all buffed out and the original owner seeing it again after almost 30 years
Iowa is having tornadoes right now. I hope you two are safe.
This (central) part of the state had some strong thunderstorms but no tornados.
It's always a great day when you guys upload. This Satellite will fit the Ramp truck perfectly
Very cool revival video! Thanks to you & Mook both!
Almost a millions subscribers for a small grassroots channel is fantastic. Most who watch these channels don’t subscribe anyways.
Australia isn't global? 😂
Do you not understand that RUclips is global?
LMFAO
@@samholdsworth420 I didn’t attack you. I did not come after you. There is no reason to try to disrespect my comment with a poorly thought out response.
@@carterlee5743 no need to get upset. I was just stating the fact that RUclips is a global platform that anyone can use
Returning this car to its original owner will be the best video on your channel, guaranteed. That is one hell of a story.
The most excited I've been about one for a long time!
Definitely would love to see a build on this car...My older brother had one with the 383 HO, it ran quite well. Would really love to see a gen III hemi swap...lol
Getting ahold of the owner and knowing the backstory on that car just makes it so much better and such an awesome addition to your channel as a video
I absolutely loved that whole phone call you had with the original owner. I love the idea of doing a road trip with the car to visit the original owner. Keep up the awesome content Kev!!!
Too heckin' cool that you got in touch with the original owner, this car deserves to be saved.
I absolutely love the story behind this car and can't wait to see more restoration work done to it!
I love when the history of the car comes to life. And never doubted the reliability of the old 3-1-8. They are the great engines
Absolute dime of a car! Glad to see it move again, I've always had a soft spot for Plymouths
Being a survivor in such solid condition it is so ripe for a quality restoration!
I can never go a day without watching you guys. You guys are awesome. 🔥 🎆
get a job
how easily you were finding the old owner is amazing! top job!
Really enjoy these videos, especially when you take the time to explain some of the technical aspects like you did with the starter and amperage and heat soak etc… it’s appreciated and shows not just your knowledge but willingness to help and teach others! Thanks
Watching your channel Kevin (and Mook) is always the highlight of my Friday evening! Love the channel!
I love this body style! I had a 71 GTX it was a great car
I hope you're doing well after the Tornado. Stay safe.
Kevin. I've been watching you, Luke and the whole gang since almost the begining. Y'all are doing Iowa proud. Keep on keeping on!
Satellite’s are awesome car’s....even better u found the original owner. That was 1 of the coolest parts of the video’s! And you looked pretty stoked about it also. 👍🏻
Shout out from southern Ontario 🇨🇦
This is easily one of the best looking cars ever made and I can’t wait to see its progress.
What a great body style!!! Excited to see what you guys do! Cheap eBay turbo!!!!!
This is the best Covid cure ever, love you guys🤙🏼
Covid was three years ago what the hell are you talkin about lol
@@samholdsworth420 I’ve got Covid atm😂 So the video was a pleasant surprise while I get better😂
I look forward to watching more 😎
Love what you do man , you're a good dude . God bless and keep doing what you do best !
Love it! Y'all inspired me to start fiddlin' with (hopefully fixing) my car :D
Kevin, I think you should pull the 440 out of the boat and swap it I to this Satellite.
I agree
Always love the way the 318 sounds. Grew up in a 70 Satellite with a 318 and eventually had it as a teen for a while. Sold it for $500 around 86 as a fully running car with the typical Chrysler electrical anomalies.
Just found/watched your video and being a happy Mopar guy with a 71 Sat/RR tribute I enjoyed this more than you know..I know, another weird Mopar nut. My 318 a/t is gone and replaced with a 1970 warmed over 383 and pistol grip next to my bench seat. White over black ( no I’m not racist)
I’m signed up now so keep it coming..
28:30 lol
as he said “Holy crap!!”, a sweet 80s El Camino drove by my house, and it had Iowa plates (I live in Minnesota)
do a video like quick complete car inventory as of now and what will go and what will stay or smth. i'd love it if fans can vote for a vehicle they wanna see most. showing nature and old cars is such a pretty combination, also there was that video that you started every car you have and it was real cool
37:51 "Likes to idle, and that's it." Can relate.
It great seeing old cars come to life. It is crazy that you put a 4 barrel on a 2 barrel manifold and it running so well the second time!
You just can't kill those old 318's. Had one that sat up for over 20 years and no lie, fired up (just for a second) first time I hit the key. Made me a Mopar man for sure. Fix her up, drive it a while, and see where the road takes you. Great vid Kevin and Mook.
i had a 74 fury with a 318..overheated it trying to rock it out of a ditch..replaced a few bent pushrods and she ran again for another 5 years until i sold it ..those 318's and slant 6's are hard to tear up
What a cool track down and phone call. Great example of revived history. Love it
I love satellites.........AS a young lad who watched the original Dukes of hazards as they Originally aired.......That is where my love of that era Satellite was started!!!!!!
I am a MOPAR guy and love this resurrection I hope you get ti home Good luck!
There is something about those old MOPARs that just oozes cool.
Good luck!
