I learned about these techniques years ago when I had cars and motorcycle stolen from me. Last night, I heard a loud repetitive banging noise at 11 PM. I went to investigate as I knew exactly what that noise was (most likely) and noticed a getaway car just idling at a stoplight while someone else was in a parked vehicle in a driveway. I called the police and was able to thwart a vehicle theft because I had the exact same thing done to me.

Back in the 1980s I put kill switches on both my old VWs. They got broken into but never stolen. Chipped keys are the best to thwart thieves, better yet a chipped key with a manual transmission. Also with the keyless entry: thieves can sit in parking lots with scanners and pick up the signal from a nearby car when the driver parks and leaves to go into the building. That makes the scanner the 'keyless entry' device and the thief simply walks up, unlocks the car, and drives away.

There are many things you missed about how car thieves steal cars. Especially on the older vehicles and the stearing lock. On older vehicles you do not have to use the wires to start the vehicle. I'm a former car thief who helps people secure their property. Got to give props for you recommending a kill switch. I think that is the best way to avoid your vehicle being stolen. The thing with the kill switch is you need to use your imagination.
I've owned multiple cars with kill switches. Every Killswitch was in a different place. Every Killswitch was of a different style. They're suppose to be hidden.
Basically find a place in your car to hide a switch. A place that you will be able to reach and find easily but no one else will. And then just like you said you wire it in to your ignition. Blamo done.
An install video would show him cut one wire strip the ends, wire in a switch and then tell you to hide the switch.

David Stacy did one on that. You can also do a simple fuse install which will kill power to the starter when fuse is removed. Installing fuse in an inconspicuous spot will guarantee no theft unless tow truck is used. In which case you shouldn't be driving your sic ride in the hood to begin with.

The best way to protect your car overally cheaply based on my fathers recommendation who works in a company developing and rating car security systems:
    1. A cheap kills switch installment
    2. Independent alarm installment
    3. Cheap GPS installment
    Everything explained below:
    1. The most important: a kill switch.. Super cheap installment of a standard electrical switch with cables, the switch will cut power to either ignition or battery power or the best option imo a power that goes to a fuel pump, however its very important to perfectly hide this switch where it cant be easily seen, only reached with finger/s.. This is a must have especially for keyless entry cars but works perfectly on any other car as thieves will either have to find the switch what you should make impossible by hiding it perfectly or by disassembling the floor looking for the additional connections, yeah... neither one of these is going to happen, thieves are usually in a hurry, they dont want to get caught..
    2. A independent car alarm.. A bit more pricey like few hundred of dollars max but worth it.. The type of alarm that when silently triggered upong car entry you have 10/20 seconds to disarm it by for example an RFID chip that you normally carry on your keyring or w/e, and if you fail to disarm it within the time, the alarm goes off honking or even powering up a siren if you additionally buy one.. The best thing is going to be the independence, as thieves might think they got inside the car the legit way, the independent car alarm wont actually give a f*ck thus making a lot of noise bringing attention to thieves what will make them run for sure..
    3. Cheap GPS module that use GPS and GSM to communicate, perfectly hidden inside the car, (make it as hard to get to as possible, powering it on 12V in your car).. These normally communicate withing SMS about more than just their GPS location, some can even send info like when the car was started.. More expensive ones can even communicate thru the internet data so you can check where your car is any time with your smartphone.. Its recommended to have more of these cheap ones as when thieves would find one, they might think theres no more, however we should assume they wont find any as you should make it as hard to get to as possible, they wont have time to strip the whole car looking for these devices..
To best protect from any regular car thief there is out there, just install all of these 3 things mentioned above and their chances of stealing your car will drop almost to zero.. Just note that none of these might help against professional car thieves..If they cant find the switch or start the car they might just return later towing your car away, if they notice independent car alarm they might just pop the hood and kill your honkers and siren in like 10 seconds.. If they think that there are GPS modules in your car they might use GSM blocking devices or devices that point out the GSM traffic thus easily finding these modules... You wont have a chance if professional car thieves target your car, however chances that they will are insanely low as this kind of people usually target the most expensive super cars for example..
Well thats it.. I hope this helps someone.. Have a nice day and please upvote so more people can effectively protect their cars

      @NotEvenDeathCanSaveU 3 года назад +2

@@Curiousnessify It doesnt but high quality alarm system with gps is just as effective as cheap alarm + gps which you can install yourself..Common people with slight paranoia usually go for cheap gps and killswitch at the very least, that means if you hide the switch very well, they ll have to both tow the car while actively block the gsm signals to succesfuly steal it meaning just the common thieves like for example relay thieves wont have a chance

    • @NotEvenDeathCanSaveU
      @NotEvenDeathCanSaveU 3 года назад +2

@Blue Panther Gaming You certainly dont live in america then.. Restricted area? Did you see how most houses look in the US? Theres just a driveway, actual fences at property are less common than in the europe, I dont really live there, I was there a couple of times, esp in CA as on vacation but yeah, restricted.... I have no idea what you mean, Another thing with refueling, no one says the thieves will travel that far to target someones keyless car, they ll go just far enough where 20% of tank will be enough to get it into place and dismantle it to the last bolt.. All you need is a basic woodshack into which you hide the car, then they usually leave the GSM blocking device on and on charger just to be sure if there was some GPS installed in the car.. If you do some research on these car thieves, all this stuff I am mentioning here will sound pretty familiar to you, its pretty basic stuff imo

6 best ways to prevent theft. 1: install a quick release steering wheel. 2 & 3: install a fuel pump and ignition kill switch and hide them in 2 separate locations. 4: install a 2 way alarm system with a hood and trunk pin switch to activate when opened as well as a glass shatter sensor. 5 install locking hood latches for cars as well as locking tonneau covers for trucks. And finally 6 this would be optional but anti penetrating window tint like the one viper makes, will prevent people from drilling and or shattering the windows to gain access.

"cock" the metal spring/spike and have the trigger spring connected to a servo or something thats wired to ignition fuse. Make sure to have a on/off switch wired inline. But if its on and someone tries to take the car they get a nice metal spike right up through the seat into their ass!. Seat=cheaper than new car

I have installed a kill switch on several cars. For a while in the 90's 2 door Honda Civic, Integra and Sentra cars were constantly being stolen. My buddy had an Integra Type R which are very rare and a big target. We installed a kill switch but located it in the engine bay since he felt his only danger was parked over night. It worked well as more than five times he found his window broken, wheel stock broken or things moved around showing someone had been in the car. After that we did it for several of his friends.

  • @MarshallSambell

installing a battery isolator in a weird spot is a very cheap way to prevent auto theft - most thieves don’t think to look in the engine bay

I used to repo vehicles for banks. It was a fun job. Especially when you got to wave bye bye to the debtor who was skipping payments. It is easy to repo a car. There are a bunch of ways to circumvent steering wheel locks and ignition switches. Like I said it was a fun job after you get good at it. A good car thief (professional) can take your car in usually under 40 seconds.

Another thing they do is, go to the junkyard buy the computer and ignition w key out of a similar totalled car and then just swap them and drive away. It's amazing how quickly a professional car thief can pull this off
However, if you're targeted by this level of car thief. Buy good ins. Because they WILL get the car.

    • @Blazer02LS

Won't work on many vehicles because the computer doesn't store the key information, and the PCM numbers won't match the stored VIN.

depending on how you look at it... sometimes a key-less type ignition can be the easiest. driving around with a sniffer box.
it is like window shopping for a free car.... put it in a faraday cage pouch.
The physical kill switch is a good deterrent also... If you are going to leave it parked for a long time you can go bananas with it... pull the ignition relay or disconnect the ignition coils and hell even leave it on blocks lol.

Good info. I had a car stolen exactly as described in method 1, they used a big screwdriver to punch out the door lock, then same again to smash the steering lock and ignition. I saw the thieves later in town but could not prove it was them. I then got one of those through the steering wheel bars, a pain to put on but better than having another car smashed up.
That method 3 looks like poo, a fob always emitting RF!? stoopid.

A New Jersey cop once told me if you want to keep your car , install 2 kill switches in 2 different locations , shutting off power to your fuel pump .
One of them in the trunk is a good place to hide one .
Usually they ll find one and try to start it but just end up running the battery down.
I also leave a little index card on my seat that says " I SEE YOU ".
It messes with a lot of peoples heads and they start looking around when they first look in your vehicle .
