In summary, dont buy a charger if you dont have a secured garage. Get aftermarket antitheft equipment. Hide a magnetic tracker under the car in a crevice thats not visible and make sure that tracker a cell service connectivity. Have a proximity alert device on your car so that you can get alerted when it leaves the radius you set. If youre going to buy a hellcat, best be prepared to get all this stuff to protect your toy

Car theft happens almost exclusively at dealerships these days. Most dealerships are incredibly stupid and have a super naive sense of security which makes it very easy for a group of thieves to break in and be gone with 4-5 of their most expensive cars within a couple of minutes. It's way more difficult and way more risky comparatively to be trying to steal vehicles out on the street or in someone's garage.

Few days later his car was back in his driveway and there was a missing persons report filed on two teens that were known car thieves. Last I heard they still hadn’t been found.

Ever since i got my car I would of never thought I would've been a victim of car theft. That was until, one day when I was at work, they managed to steal my 97 civic from the parking lot. Back then, I was a recent high school graduate who was working at your local Mcdonalds so you can imagine the impact this would of had on me. How was I gonna get to work? How was I gonna get to school? How was I gonna pick up my siblings from school?
Fortunately for me though, as soon as I realized it was missing, I called my local police and they were able to find it a few hours later still in good shape. It sucks to know that for a lot of people, they dont get so lucky and end up finding their cars stripped to the bare metal in the middle of nowhere. Since then, Ive gotten a brake lock and made sure to park in well lit areas with cameras.

5 years ago my car was stolen. you could say by professionals.
a junkyard in the major city i live in, was running a catalytic converter theft ring. what they would do is - use their tow trucks to illegally tow your car, move it a few blocks away, chop chop the converter and leave it there. they eventually got busted years later but my car was one of their victims.
you might be wondering how tf can you defend against being illegally towed...the only answer i can come up with is when you get to your job, somehow keep your car in your sight?!

Had my Trackhawk stolen in 2021. Heard it start from inside my apartment and ran outside to see the taillights leaving the parking lot. Instantly pulled up the gps tracker and called the police. The state troopers caught up to him on the highway and he ran the tank dry trying to get away eventually blowing the engine at 160 mph after I turned off the car remotely. He ended up being bailed out from jail the same night unfortunately and I never heard what happened with the case. Insurance paid me more than I bought the car for so that was nice.

I can testify to older Accords getting stolen. I had a 94' accord back in 07'. For a 20 year old kid at the time, it was a pretty decent car to have since I had bought it from a bit older friend who had it repainted, lowered it (cut springs, I know they suck), had subs, exhaust, stick shift, and some nice black/steel 18's on low pros were on there. Within 2 years they tried to steal it 6 times. The first 2 times they failed & just jacked up my window gasket/rubber trim. I then installed a touch sensitive alarm with remote feedback. I remember waking up 4 times that same summer to having them try and break in and even caught one of them running down the street. Heck, they even had tagged up the garage door at the apartment I used to park at. My downstairs neighbor one day told me the graffiti was an auto theft ganging marking my car to be stolen. I got rid of that thing & got a 3 series, and no one ever bothered me again.

Someone tried to steal my Kia Sportage. It had the 'security upgrade' with window stickers. You know, because apparently thieves will stop and take the time to read small labels, right? They couldn't steal it, but they seemed to have some sort of temper tantrum and tore apart the dash and steering column wiring, making it undrivable in addition to the broken window to get in. Like it was somehow my fault they're flipping idiots. I pay Gimpco (Geico) $390 a month, and they wouldn't pay a dime, not even for the tow truck. Honestly, it would've been better for me if it WAS stolen, because I can't afford to fix all that damage on my own dime, all while still paying $390 a month for insurance. And I need that frickin car to get to dialysis. Because, in Geico's words, "Damage was unable to be proven to be caused after coverage was applied." @@KidLatin27 There are things you can do to make your car less appealing to steal. A hidden fuel pump cutoff switch and ignition cutoff switch can make it harder to steal. Most of these drive-by thieves aren't carrying sawzalls or angle grinders so a good old steering wheel lock like the Club can dissuade them. Wheel boots can slow them down because they have to get that off too. These thieves are looking for an easy score, not something they have to work for. They want to be in and out quickly. There's no such thing as a theftproof car but you can make your Hellcat less appealing to steal than the one down the street.

This is what dumb criminals think..."I'll just outrun the cops with my 807 hp Hellcat Redeye!"...and then radios and helicopters enter the chat. The dudes that do get away temporarily are because the cops give up pursuit for safety reasons. I would think the best get-a-way vehicle would be a supermoto bike. You can run it both on the tarmac and off road and hopefully hide it easily in a garage of your side chicks trailer...along with your bag of Pokemon cards you stole.

For anyone looking to prevent theft. You can splice a switch in your neutral safety switch or fuel pump relay. Hide the switch. Neutral switch kills power to starter. It’s awesome.

    • @CRneu
      @CRneu 6 месяцев назад +2

Yup. They're really easy to install. On all our old farm rigs the ignitions would eventually go out(old trucks) so we'd just splice in a switch instead of replacing the ignition.

Last July I had my 2018 Dodge Charger Scatpack stolen outside of my apartment. I think they got in with a thing called a black box, which takes the signal from a key fob and uses it to start the car since there was no glass in the parking spot. So now I keep my key FOBs in a faraday box. And I also bought a house with a garage (for security) with a car lift in it. I have USAA insurance and they paid me more for the car than what I paid for it originally, they may be expensive but they are very good. I bought a new 2022 Dodge Charger Scatpack widebody btw lol sorry I love the widebody Chargers.

Back in 2005 - I bought a brand new Dodge Magnum SXT , powered by the 3.5 liter Daimler V6. It was amazing, fun and had plenty of power...
But I had to sell it after a year or two because the insurance prices were so high on ANY Magnum regardless of engine - why ?
Well, I came to find out that even when I bought it there was a huge problem with Hemi equipped Chargers and Magnums getting
stolen, even if my wagon didn't have a hemi, the insurance company said it was still in a huge risk catagory, and also - even if I had the
250 hp V6 NOT the 5.7L/ 340hp hemi - they were still charging me as if I HAD the hemi V8 !! Like as if it was a 2 door sports car -
not a V6 powered STATION WAGON !! I don't know if that feature to get the car into neural was a thing, but apps weren't like they are today on 2005 - lol
It got to be so bad and so expensive, I had to get rid of the car, I traded it in with cash back for an older used vehicle -
it was the first last and only time I'll ever own a brand new car, what a huge disappointment.

In Sweden the amount of old Volvo 700 and 900 series that get stolen och broken into is insane now. They even burned down alot of them after they got what they came for. It's easy on most of them before 1996, all cars got immobilizers in 1996 but you can just switch the fuel control unit to an older one so it's not riskfree and if you are lucky and have volvo guard alarm then thats even better but won't help if they switch the control unit. Volvo original parts are worth a sum nowadays, it's popular to put the US frontlights on and those can cost over 10k.

For anyone wondering why the charger is so easy to get into neutral, the ZF 8 speed it uses leaks pressure down internally in about 15 minutes after engine shutdown. Resulting in parking pawl engagement. So that necessitated a release mechanism for if you breakdown and need a tow. It would probably be best if said mechanism was under the hood at least though.
