    Hello Jackson Mixed it. This is my first time coming across one of you videos and I found it very well produced and it also sounds great. While your assessment of this mic reflection product does seem accurate, your passive take on Dr. Dre left me scratching my head... You asked if Dr. Dre was a sound Engineer or Mixer and then spouted the phrase "qualified engineer"? Well if you're not trolling, it's really a shame that you're a professional sound engineer and aren't aware of the major contributions Dr. Dre has brought to world of mixing and sound engineering. I would implore you to listen to his Chronic 2001 album (an album he mixed and was used as a sound reference cd in many top studios for decades) and then listen again, and again and study the sound of that album as-well-as his other MIXES, like thousands of other engineers have for the better part of two decades.... I wish you well in your endeavors, but after you do your research, you will understand how embarrassing it is for a professional sound engineer to ask such a question

      My apologies, I can't say I'm very educated on his credentials. This video was actually not planned, I stumbled across the topic while recording a different video and based my understanding off of some content I saw "Dr Dre's engineer explaining engineering" so I assumed he was not the engineer of his records. And that was the extent of my knowledge.
      Ironically with all the hiphop production and mixing I do, I am about as uncultured as they come. People have always busted my balls over my lack of knowledge as far as hiphop culture goes. I'm inspired by the various sounds and achievements of the greats, but 99% of my time is spent studying the sonics of the records I'm a part of and that's where my technical knowledge comes from. Some people collect baseball cards, some train to be in the league, and some do both. We've all got a different method to our madness and unfortunately Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg were not apart of my method.
      Hope my perspective makes sense. Thanks for your comment.

    I bought one of these years ago-seemed like a good idea. It does block a lot of reflections. It also makes it sound like your mic is under a thick blanket. Sounds muddy and boxy. One of my worst buys ever.

    I have one sitting on my shelf that I bought when I first started out and it seemed like a good idea until I started understanding the mixing process a little better… I agree with you it’s false advertisement.. if you have a decent microphone it makes it sound bad .. tons of low end and muffles the vocal a little 🤦🏽‍♂️😩🤷🏽‍♂️

    Because this thing is Chester Cheetah Cheezy, you don't even have to be that experienced in the recording industry to realize that whoever or whatever company designed that ridiculous nonsense is just making money from fools who don't know better!! You would be better off with a sock over the mic.. it's basically a microphone foam cover that you place over your SM58 for helping you ease P's & S's from causing popping and hissing on your basement recordings! Thanks for exposing this crap, but anyone who thinks that they are going to spend $200 or under and be able to go into their bedroom and produce the next best album... they're either absolutely insane, or wasted on something! And most people using garbage like this are probably living in an apartment or dorm room with a ton of echo/natural reverb and nodes that are constantly bouncing and reflecting back and forth phasing out anything worthwhile! If you really want something like this, buy a package of microphone foam covers, or put a dead cat over a shotgun mic and sing into that! Yea... it sounds ridiculous, because it is! The whole thing is a waste of money and time and should be passed right over! PLUS... if you are looking for something like this, you can go to Home Depot and pick up some materials to build your own little box and probably get a better sound! Build your own box and pick up some really good acoustic foam! I built a home studio in one of my bedrooms and the entrance to the room was built so that when you open the door there is a little 3'x3' area where the door swings open into and directly ahead of you as you open the door is a wall where the closet starts! So I took the hinges off the door and reversed them so I could hang the door back on but instead of it opening inwards, you had to pull it open instead...! I then insulated that entire little 3'x3' box area along with both sides of the door using 2" thick acoustic studio foam, then I took a thin piece of plywood and covered both top and bottom of that, hung two small 'L' brackets opposite of the top of the moulding around the frame of the door which created an airtight ceiling for this home-studio vocal booth...! It actually surprised the hell out of me because I wasn't completely convinced that I would get what I got from it, but the idea that I'm trying to get at, is it's definitely all about how well you design your room's space! This little vocal booth that I created was so tight and so dead silent, that if you stood in there long enough without something to do... you would start to go crazy just because, I swear to god, that you would start to hear your own thoughts out loud..! Lolol One of the best ideas that I ever had and it worked like a charm and it left the entire rest of the room for playing and recording in, because I was able to design it in an area that was only being used for the bedroom door to open inwards, it was basically wasted space that I turned into a vocal booth! And of course in the front of it I picked up like 3-4 of those super thick stackable foam blocks that you can put on a stand and use as a partition wall and the top foam block had a little square cutout for a piece of plexiglass in order for the vocalist to be able to see out to the engineer..! I was quite proud of myself when I was done because I honestly wasn't 100% sure that it was going to work, plus I thought of it, designed it on paper, bought the materials and put it together all in a couple hours! Auralex is some incredibly awesome acoustic studio foam..! A little expensive but well worth it! That stuff created such a great controlled environment that I would just go into the room and shut the door and lay down on the floor just so I could eliminate ALL environmental sounds/noises, because it's nice every so often to hear absolutely NOTHING! But when you start hearing the voices, it's time to get on with your day! Lol 😜 Thx and good luck to everyone and anyone looking to create a home recording environment! Any questions, please feel free to reach out and I will do my best to help guide you!

    Wow that thing specifically sounded terrible 😂. I’m sure it does slightly more than nothing at all, but it won’t absorb any bass frequencies and if your room sucks, it’s probably just going to make it sound worse. I get it though, even I am slacking in this department. The better hardware I buy the more it exposes every weakness in my room, It’s time to invest in some REAL room treatment!

    • @jacksonmixedit
      @jacksonmixedit  Месяц назад

      AMEN! All of my treatment I built myself and it cost me around $1,000 including a new saw and enough screws bolts and crap. (10 - 6x2 foot panels) (1 - 2x2 panel) which would have cost me a TON if I had purchased them from a company. Was a lot of work though, video on that should be coming out within the next couple days.

      @@joeyramonelookalike first, its way too close to the mic, so it makes recordings muffled and colors them weird, it also distorts the recordings if you’e not careful, and it just sounds completely unnatural. I used one like 5 years ago and when I took it off one day, I realized it was ruining my vocals. So for me, I don’t like them at all.

    @jacksonmixedit I’ve never used the kaotica eyeball or the alctron version NBA young boy was using but I made the same thing out of a nerf football from Walmart and it definitely blocked the reflections from the walls and the floor but it can’t be used on all polar patterns. It should only be used on cardioid when recording vocals but it would be bad for omnidirectional and figure 8
