The Dell Precision R3930 supports both HDDs and SSDs. While HDDs are available in SATA format, SSDs come in SATA formats as well. Although NVMe is not compatible with the backplane, you can install an NVMe M.2 drive with a capacity of up to 2TB. If you've successfully installed larger capacities, please share your experience in the comments.
For drive speeds, SATA HDDs offer options of 5.4K RPM and 7.2K RPM. SATA SSDs provide speeds of 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s, though 12Gb/s is supported this would clock down to 6Gb/s. The chassis determines the size of the drives: the R3930 accommodates Large Form Factor (LFF) drives (3.5 inches) and Small Form Factor (SFF) drives (2.5 inches). The maximum size for an SFF SATA HDD is 2TB, while LFF drives can go up to 8TB. These specifications are based on Dell's spec sheet. If you've installed larger drives, please share this information in the comments for everyone's benefit.

Does anybody know if it’s possible to modify a chassis to switch from 2.5” to 3.5” drives? I recently got a 3930 for free, but it’s the 2.5” version and I really prefer the 3.5”. Thanks.
