    I still think is a big mistake to not retain the kickstarter. It's also a mistake to not build the electrical system so you don't have to depend on the battery like a snowmobile doesn't.
    I know competitors that broke battery cables during hard enduros and that put the rider DNF.

      @@adencollis5941 i really feel like ktm has lost their way a bit, i get all the pushing to be lighter and trying to push new tech etc, but i really think they should make a simpler, more reliable older style model for people like me who just dont want tpi, tbi, electric start, ecu's which are hard to tune etc, its just more to go wrong and harder to diagnose as well, i never had an issue jetting carbs or kicking my bike over in 20 years of riding so i'm not going to suddenly start having a problem doing those things, that's the reason i buy YZ250's now ktm has seemingly gone down the luxury route when some of us just want a reliable and simple machine, there's no reason they cant bring out at least one carbed model alongside their fancy new stuff, they'd sell plenty of them.

    They look like great bikes! Maybe my next one when it comes time. I don't love PDS, but not for the reason you listed. The PDS bikes are super tall for me. Not undoable, but my older RFS bike (PDS) was way tall. When I moved to the linkage in 13 because I wanted to try something different it just fit me better and does "squat" a bit for me. Easier to swing my leg over, dab when needed and also ergonomically fit me better. Just personal preference so I've been on an XC since. I have way less tip overs than I ever did on my RFS PDS bike. I noticed my wifes 200 (PDS) is a little taller as well. She is fine with it. We are the same height, but she has longer legs and a shorter torso... me the opposite. I have a skid plate on my 22 GG that covers the linkage. No big deal. A little more maintenance with me, but no a big deal in my eyes.

    The EPA force made them too expensive. They has nothing on my 2-stroke YZ250 that I set up for the woods.
    Speed shifter? You can do the same by letting off the gas a tinge for a up-shift and back on again. Yea, it is faster than fanning the clutch. I figured it out in 1984. lol
    It is just a dirt bike and my YZ is amazing, (now that it is not too tall). More complexity/cost/maintenance is simply not worth it to me. We are going to price the sport to death.
    I guess nothing good lasts forever.

My concerns are they haven't sorted out the niggles which I believe will continue to happen on very low hour bikes as they have been a few caught out with no dealership help (id be pissed with that after $20,000 spent) it looks like quality control went on holiday lol. Reliability is king provided it's close enough on power etc for a non racer to enjoy riding vs pushing the bike lol. I have not put enough hours on the KTM husky to give more feedback

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA Год назад +1

      Nobody has ever explained why the PDS was not as good for MX. It is a rising rate system, with adjustable valve stacks. It is possible the few MX mechanics who had to use them, just gave up on them before they figured out the valving they wanted. If they did it like they would for a linkage, and that is all they wanted to understand, they probably would not find a good setting. If it simpler, (less maintenance), lighter, and works as it should, it is a winner in my book. Those air forks and no rear linkage probably knocked off at least 5 lbs from the bike.

    • @dirtyoffroader2093
      @dirtyoffroader2093 Год назад +2

      The PDS system is fine it is the WP shock that is the weak link. I got tired of not being able to properly dial in the rear suspension so I bought the Öhlins TTX shock and was amazed at how much better it performed. From the woods to the MX track it worked well.

    I'm a 100kg 187cm (loaded) rider and LOVE the nippy feeling of the 250 over the 300. But I just just need a bit more low down torque for the step step climbs.
    Then the idling on the TPi on steep downhills (not being able to adjust idling) just sometimes stalls the bike.
    Are we able to adjust idling on the new TBI?
    So in short.
    1. Is the low down torque more or less on the TBi
    2. Can we adjust idling
    Would you recommend 300 then?

    • @user2594

      1.) low down torque in white mapping is superb! You would no have seen something like this before on a ktm 2Stroke. 2.) actually i´m not sure. But for your problem you should try a flywheel weight on your tpi (better instant traction, less stalling on low rpm)

    What is the advantage of TBI over TPI?
    Also, how long has TM been TBI?

    • @garthlundquist3623
      @garthlundquist3623 Год назад +1

      For us winter riders the TBI bikes won’t seize at cold startup like the TPI bikes do. This is because with TBI the fuel ( gasoline) will be injected at the same point in front of the reed block, allowing the fuel to act as a solvent and dilute the thick cold oil. We had 6 out of 12 TPI bikes cold seize in a 4 month period in the winter here in Washington State. Another significant TBI improvement is that the trouble prone CPS ( crankcase pressure sensor) has been reengineered as to location and size of the sampling tube. This should really make for more consistent performance. I used to sell CPS sensors out of my moto van at Staging as they failed so often.

    Having an oil pump on these bikes is nonsense. Having an oil pump adds weight, complexity, and cost, and reduces overall reliability, which is exactly what you don’t want in an off-road bike. You don’t ride these bikes to the gas station to fill up the tank, you fill them from gas cans. Terrible decision by KTM. Remove oil pumps, bring back the 200 engine, and include kick starters. Make 2 strokes great again!

    • @philwilliamson3370

      Bring back the 200 with tbi, that would be a beast of a bike! I owned a 2016 200 xcw, the last of the 200's. I ride events all the time that use local gas stations vs a gas truck with cans to refuel. It sure is convenient with a tpi bike but I've also gone the route of bringing a small container of oil to do the same thing. I'm indifferent to either option. I'm sure whoever has to unload the gas truck prefers the gas station option.

    • @danafinch7838

      I do long rides through the woods in the northeast, I do fill at gas stations on longer rides in the middle of nowhere. Happy to have the oil pump. Snowmobiles perfected the technology long ago for this. I've never had a 2stroke oil pump failure.

    • @bbarker5766
      @bbarker5766 Год назад +1

      I don't think they are tunes for less power. They are probably tuned for a smoother power through ignition timing, power valve springs, and tension, then possibly a different gearing in the gear box, but total power output should be really close if not the same.
