Livestock Protection Foxes and Feral Cats

  • Livestock protection is critical to the farming industry. In Australia Foxes have been declared a national introduced pest. They are not native. With numbers at an all time high, predation on defenceless lambs is an ongoing struggle.
Patrolling around large flocks of sheep and surrounding bushland with roof mounted thermal on my vehicle allows large areas to be covered quickly and thoroughly.
This contract was on 4 neighbouring properties. 47 foxes were permanently relocated and 1 huge feral cat, resulting in 4 very happy farmers. Will be heading back down there in another few weeks to clean up what's left.
My setup this trip was my Sako 85 Hunter chambered in .223 topped with the Pulsar Thermion2 Pro XP50 LRF, running 55gr ADI World Class factory ammunition. Suppressed with the SCSA Q2 moderator. My handheld is the Pulsar Helion2 Pro XP50 and I'm running the HikMicro Panther PQ50L mounted on the roof and wifi'd to a screen in the vehicle.
I would appreciate it if you would give this video a thumbs up and also click the Subscribe button and check out my other content so you can assist me in making these videos for you all to watch. It really does help with the RUclips analytics.
Enjoy and don't forget to "SAY G'DAY".....

There's feral animals...and then there's the feral cats. Always a celebration when ever one those sods get taken out, they do so much freaking damage, and they're much hard to find than the foxes. A very good trip by the looks of things Rod. We thank you for the work that needs to be done.

Here in the US the serious problem is feral pigs...they destroy thousands of dollars worth of farmland. In some states you do not even need a permit to hunt them. In my rural area we are over run with coyotes. Local government will not allow anyone to hunt them, so, there we are. No more stray cats or turkeys since the coyotes moved into the area.

You're got to be a very effective hunter and a born killing machine to make a living wearing bright white in a green and brown environment, even at night, the slightest moonlight would be a give away and that beast wasn't thin. Well done on the vermin, how to spot the vermin?, with a thermal hand held and then shoot off the tripod?, or pick up with a spotlight then thermal.
We cover a lot of ground not practical to scan with a thermal.
Everyone talks about cats but see/shoot very few, 1cat to 40 foxes, nearly all cats around sheds/houses/rock heaps or once rabbit warrens.

Agree on all accounts mate. Roof mounted thermal helps with covering large properties quickly. Still use a torch to scan for foxes with on some properties then shut down and go to thermal.

darn fine shooting young lad, about that hook with the handle for dragging the foxes with , if memory serves it looks very much like an old wool bale hook my grandfather used in the sheds when i was a kid , not sure if they call them that anymore. again excellent shooting.

      Thanks champion.
Very similar to those old wool bale ones. Not as strong as them though. 👊

Hey I am enjoying watching your videos BUT I am sure going to be a lot more alert when someone says " G-Day " to me in the future ~ LOL ( like you do with the foxes ) I'm 65 now but many moons ago we used to go shooting on our friends 5.000 acres in York W.A , us wives had our turns at shooting foxes & bunnies too , I remember using about 10 rounds from the magnum on a bunny & it not having a mark on it LOL , our husbands had a running joke that it died of fright hahaha .We never lived that one down .
