- Pig Hunting with bolt action rifles chambered in 308 and 223.
This is Part 1 of a 2 part series.
Out on the wheat stubble this trip.
Feral pig numbers have exploded in the area recently due to an abundance of feed and water.
As a result, farmers are suffering significant crop damage and losses.
I received an invite to head up and lend a hand, which I eagerly accepted.
With the pigs becoming quite vehicle shy recently, the most effective method was to conduct all of the shooting on foot. Stalking in on mobs of pigs under the cover of darkness using thermal detection equipment and rifle scopes proved to be incredibly effective.
I managed to cull 107 pigs over the three nights which made the farmers very happy.
Can't wait to get back up there and do it all again.
Big thanks to Dennis for his gracious hospitality. It was a hunting trip I'll never forget.

Taking out a whole small herd with a bolt action rifle tells you just how effective suppressors can be for hunting. Well done, friend, and greetings from California.

Thanks Nathan. The self restraint was hard to keep in check at times. Not a big fan of the whole spray and pray shooting. Not to mention the ridiculous price of ammo. 👌
@@RJMHuntingAustralia The problem with that is, that the farmer might find someone that isn't tight with their ammo and gets better results? I've never heard anything so ridiculous as "restraint" when it comes to feral pigs. Very amateuristic talk. I'm overrun with Sambar Deer down here in Vic and I tell the guy that culls here to keep shootin' while they're still movin.' If I ever find him doing otherwise, he can move on. When it comes to pest management, it's all about numbers, not trying to make a deadeye dick RUclips Video.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Nice work mate. Good clean shooting I'm impressed. My personal experience and opinion is that precision wins over "spray and pray" anything from racing dirt bikes to bowling a cricket ball... you go past your limit it gets untidy 😏
You will get bigger numbers picking your shots.. the speed will come.. Unless you have an AR with free pellets then forget what I just dribbled 😂
Other than taking things out if context, you have it all wrong. It's about ethics. I shoot to humanely kill, not to wound. It's people like yourself that give this industry a bad name.

As a farmer I see the destruction at about 1:50 and it about makes you sick. People have no idea the damage they do, we are having the same issues in some sections of the US

I’ve heard rumours that some people spread the wild hogs around to breed so they can get the wild bounty money? There is no bounty here in Australia so far for pigs

The best shooting I’ve seen out of all the pig hunting channels. I guess the .308 makes a huge difference over the .223 they all use. You’re shooting farther and they drop in their tracks most of the time. The subsonics are great!

Doing something like this was on my Brother's and my bucket list, but My Brother passed away from cancer on Jan 4th 2022 and I ended up burning the bucket list we made together over the years. This kind of pest control looks like much fun. Keep the great videos coming and best of luck.
