      Hibari kyoya the thing ROS doesn’t acknowledge is that if you fly through a star or planet in hyperspace the gravity shadow will rip you apart. Even if he’s doing small hops the chance of flying through something big is still stupid.

    Incredibly, the two effects shots at the end of this scene were done as ultra-cheap tech demos in 1975 and both stayed in the movie. The nascent ILM team thought they could use the new motion control cameras with their variable exposure speed to create a linear blur of bright particles dropped in front of the camera. They created a quick demo, showed it to George Lucas who said he loved it exactly as it was, and it stayed in the movie. As for the Falcon zipping off into the distance? That is a polaroid photo of the Falcon model shot from behind, put on a tripod and then filmed with the Dykstraflex camera system pulling backwards away from it. The whole look and feel of hyperspace jumps in Star Wars, created one afternoon by a bunch of young guys just trying a few cheap ideas out.

    • @hk1371
      @hk1371 4 года назад +6

      No, it implies that it would affect the user in Hyperspace rather than the item they go through. If it was the case that they would fly through a star and affect it, they could destroy and entire system with how powerful we see the strike to be

    • @fishyfusion
      @fishyfusion 3 года назад +6

      Ik this late but basically hyperspace is using the hyper motivator to power up the hyper engines releasing a blue powerful beam of light pushing it speeds faster than light itself (light speed) and going fast enough to enter a different dimension (hyperspace) which time is different so a minute in hyperspace is a hour in our time. Basically what Han means by crashing into a star or getting to close to a super nova is that the coordinates show what place they need it to exit after they use the lever. If they didn’t they just have to guess. The ship is equipped with a machine which makes a noise and brings the ship out of hyperspace before it’s too close to something (like a planet) but it’s really risky to trust it especially on a old ship like that (the Falcon was 60 yrs old then so it was like old old)

    Actually, aside from the fact that even at lightspeed interstellar travel would take decades (and tens of thousands of years to traverse the galaxy), the likelihood of a spaceship-sized object colliding with anything is practically zero.
    The amount of space between objects is simply so great that you could travel millions of lightyears in a straight line and be unlikely to hit anything of any noticeable size.
    Sorry Han, you’re being ridiculous.

      @0ninja213 3 года назад +3

      keep in mind though, object size isn't the only thing to take into consideration, speed is also a bigger factor. A comet going the speed of light can obliterate something instantly, and do a lot more damage compared to something going 0.5% the speed of light. Since the falcon is travelling at the speed of light, even if it were to hit something completely microscopic, it would be destroyed immediately.

    • @0ninja213
      @0ninja213 3 года назад +4

      there is also a documented case where a flake of metallic paint literally 1mm in size collided with one of the ISS's windows, badly damaging it even though it was so tiny. This is because it was travelling 17,000 mph, typical orbital speed.

      @@0ninja213 True, but this would imply that starcraft would need to account for every tiny piece of material in space over a distance of potentially thousands of lightyears, which would seem an impossible task. Additionally, I assume to compensate for this all ships have deflector shields or are at least sturdy enough to withstand tiny debris; but good points about speed nonetheless.

      Hyperspace is a magic other dimension linked to the Force where you go thousands of times faster than light (you just gotta hit lightspeed to get into it) and planets and stars can suck your ship into their gravity well way further out than normal, but little debris isn't a problem. Don't think about it too hard. It's one of the things about Star Wars that's far more fantasy than sci-fi.

    Imperial Super Station, equipped with the latest Tractor beams.
    Obviously popular and busy spaceport run by active Imperial Forces. Not a single locking mechanism and lets Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon blast off into orbit.

      @@anthonygaldi6703 - Not only that but it takes two or three minutes to get tractor beams up and running, at least according to some things I've heard/read in -universe. So you have to know you're going to need/want them ahead of time. Han just blasted out of port without clearance or anything. And they weren't looking to lock him down either.

    Those stars should have stretched from the outside of the frame inwards, not vice-versa, to account for relativistic aberration.

    Plus, their mass should've condensed to an incredible level and they should've gotten too heavy to actually reach light speed.

      "light speed" is a a catch-all term for hyperspace. Much like "hoover" is for vacuums and "tarmac" for road surfaces.

    Remember when lightspeed and hyperspace was just going faster than lightspeed? Before someone trying to creat a fake scientific explanation on a book or hq that some nerds hold as dogma and try to spoil the fun from everybody? Yeah, good times.
