I remember Isbell saying his mom cried when she heard this song. We hold on to all our memories as kids and I worry what my kids will remember. I hope I'm a good dad to them.
Everything is perfect. I can feel myself in this scene. It’s the 80’s. The sky looks like it did from the eyes of a child. Everyone I love is alive and young. God.
jason is like some kind of shaman for me. his lyrics get me into the places in my mind where i have to confront my future mortality and my past choices. scary domain, but i always come out of it feeling stronger and more capable of being a better man. thank you to him and his wonderful band
I don't think he's underrated. He's been referred to as the best songwriter of this generation by the likes of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen. Grammys, hugely popular. But I do agree he's brilliant.
This song makes me cry inside. Saw Jason et al in Nashville last month when he was in residence. I would follow him anywhere to see him live. What a heart ❤ A rare man.
Saddler reminds me of Mike Campbell. He is able to give every song exactly what it needs and everything he says with his guitar is perfectly articulated. Killer tone and feel, never too much!
He's so good. Hell they're all so good. Best songwriter on the planet, backed by a ridiculously talented band. I get goosebumps just about every time I listen to this song
Childhood should be a happy time for all kids but for many it just isn't. Crazy moms and crazy dads acting as the kids they are. RIP mom and dad. Im no better a parent than you. We try the best we know I guess
Can't wait to spend the evening listening to your wonderful live music/sound. Miss the times of live music and I for one am ready to get back to living!
Still hoping to see Jason and the 400 Unit. It’s been rescheduled twice...my wife bought me a ticket for Christmas 2019, concert was supposed to be in March 2020, bumped to December 2020, now bumped again to July 2021.
Mobile? We'll be there too! Saw him in Destin before he blew up, and in Panama City before the hurricane and again at Shoalsfest. I'm more of a singer-songwriter person and my husband is a guitar appreciator, so Jason Isbell ticks each of our boxes.
@@BoldBuccleuch Rescheduled again until October 7! We arrived in Mobile late this afternoon and found out there. No email or notice. Oh well, at least we had a very nice dinner and the hotel is beautiful and our daughter is watching our dogs. We walked around downtown, had a few drinks and are enjoying ourselves anyway. We'll just come back again in October. It's only an hour away for us. Sometimes you just have to roll.
@@bellwethervance5343 yes, I saw an update on the theater FB event page. He’s shooting a movie in OK right now and couldn’t get to Mobile. So now we wait a few more months.
I was pretty mad at the Truckers for letting him go but it might have been the best thing to ever happen for him up to that point. And how drunk do you have to be for dbt to say that's too much?
It wasn’t just the drinking…he and Shauna were getting a divorce. It broke my heart too, but they needed to do what was healthy for everyone. I love every single song he has done since-but Decoration Day is still my favorite albums of all time.
I always thought your cover of Into the Mystic was very original and inspired, very Jason Isbell. It's nice to hear a little of that influence bleeding out into a new original. I've always thought your drop-D acoustic stuff really has it's own sound.
@@lastnamefirst4035 I certainly can't say for sure bc I was 8 (1993) but you're probably right. My mom remarried a few years later and life was good, better than I appreciated at the time....which lasted til I was 18 and graduated hs. Went with my mom on an extended family beach trip for a week shortly after and came home to a note on that said stepdad no longer wanted to be married. Then found out he had moved out (monumental task for a week). Over 10 years later she remarried to a great guy who I'm proud to call family. Happy ending in comparison to what could've been but she's been through the wringer and I'm not quite right lol as per this paragraph you didn't ask for. Chin up my friend!
I guess we're leaving town again We're moving out and moving in Gotta break the news to all my friends But they won't care They'll just find another face To fall behind, to take my place And run way out past second base And just stand there A dreamsicle on a summer night In a folding lawn chair Witches ring around the moon Better get home soon Poison oak and poison ivy Dirty jokes that blew right by me Mama curling up beside me Crying to herself Why can't daddy just come home? Forget whatever he did wrong He's in a hotel all alone And we need help A dreamsicle on a summer night In a folding lawn chair I'm still packing up my room Gotta get home soon New sneakers on a high school court And you swore you'd be there My heart breaking through the springtime Breaking in June Broken glass and broken vows I'll be 18 four years from now With different friends in a different town I'll finally be free Call you both some holiday Tell you why I moved away Say, "Everything's gonna be okay You can come see me" A dreamsicle on a summer night In a folding lawn chair Daddy's howling at the moon Better get home soon Heat lightning in the evening sky And my mama's red hair Hearts breaking through the springtime Breaking in June Breaking in June Breaking in June
Greed trumps liberty. So Jason changes requirements for attendance and promises to refund money to those unable to meet his newly stated requirement yet nary a cent returned. The man has no integrity. Greedy!!

Born in ‘58. Grew up through the 60s, 70s were puberty and high school. Brings back so many memories.

Gotta get home soon
New sneakers on a high school court
And you swore you'd be there
My heart breaking through the springtime
Breaking in June
Broken glass and broken vows
I'll be 18 four years from now
With different friends in a different town
I'll finally be free
Call you both some holiday
Tell you why I moved away
Say, "Everything's gonna be okay
You can come see me"
A dreamsicle on a summer night
In a folding lawn chair
Daddy's howling at the moon
Better get home soon
Heat lightning in the evening sky
And my mama's red hair
Hearts breaking through the springtime
Breaking in June
