When you get to be my age you start looking for the next musician capable of being a lifetime cultural icon; the next, shall we say, Willie Nelson. We don't want Willie to go anywhere. We do want more people with the musicianship, the songwriting, the aesthetic, the literary understanding, and the emotive empathy, all of which inarguably describes Jason Isbell.
I have been a Willie Nelson fan for the past 40 years. Been to close to 20 concerts and I love Willie. And have worried for years that I didn't know any young musicians who could take his place. But was introduced to Isbell 7 years ago and know Jason will carry that torch forward. Stories of real people living real lives... And while Willie's songs were three chords and the truth.... Jason's songs are usually 5 chords and the truth! ( As he usually throws in a minor chord or two!)
I totally share your comments about Jason Isbell. We live in the UK and first heard him on a programme fronted by Bob Harris one of our veteran music radio presenters featuring Nashville artists.
@@majidalsayegh4489 My God, you say you've seen Willie play 20 times? I'd guess 20 chords and the truth. When he played with Johnny Cash on "Storytellers" and broke a "Trigger" string; Johnny let him use his Martin, and Willie ran his fingers all over the neck. Johnny said, "first time it's ever been played."
Saw him and 400 unit a few days ago. He opened with this and I was almost in tears. I came of age in 60’s & 70’s and have seen almost all the greats. His abilities put him on the rarefied realm with Dylan, Jackson Browne, Springsteen, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Blaze Foley, and a few, very few others that have had the ability to express a point of view in the poetry of times, songs. God bless them. We mere mortals can only listen in awe and wonder at someone else’s ability to express our inner most thoughts and feelings.
Saw him at the Ryman Auditorium Oct 2022 - this song was in the set - it was a tour de force of guitar virtuoso-serious heart level poetry…I was close to weeping many times. Seeing him in Spokane in July.
I agree with you completely. I’ve seen them all as well and he is in that select few. Going to se e him again tomorrow inSt augustine. Can’t wait to hear genius
@@TheLAKERSUNLIMITED got tickets to see him in October at the RYMAN again as we make it an annual event. He is an awesome Alabama guy and I am proud to be from Bama too!!
The pain expressed by the guitar part in this song correlates the lyrics of the song perfectly. It’s a cry for help. There’s urgency in it. Let’s fix what is wrong while we still have a chance. The guitar says as much as the lyrics.
Great music, I can remember when they started playing at the Marriott in Florence . My life long friend , Jimbo's dad and I went to support them. Time flies by, but the memories remain, and Jason and the band keep getting better. Miss your dad Jimbo , and I know you must because he was the best friend anyone could ever have.

I saw Jason and the band in July 2021 at the St. Augustine amphitheater. This man is pure poetry in full musical flight. I tingled inside like I did the first time I saw Lowell George and Little Feat in Washington DC some 45 years ago. Thank you Jason for your music.

We all know Jason is most probably the best songwriter working today. We all know what an amazing guitar player he is. However, it often goes unnoticed the fkn tones he gets from those guitars. That is EXACTLY how a Stratocaster should sound. Insane 🔥🔥🔥🔥🎸
I'm sure at least part of that stems from the fact that he seems to be on a mission to acquire the prime example of each make of guitar. At least they're going to someone who knows how to use them.
We have seen Jason Isbell twice, in Edinburgh and London. We also saw him at the Americana awards in Nashville. We have the tickets for November and I really hope that the covid situation at the time will allow us to attend the concert.
Thanks Friend, we’ve been waiting to see you and the band play this song and the entire album since it was released nearly a year ago. Tickets to the moon PA show. Can’t wait.

jesus holy hell this is a good song, played by people who are good at music. and my guess was right, Strat! Isbell does southern rock Gilmour. Super cool
Hi all....I recently discovered 'Cover Me Up' through RUclips and was so moved by the tune that I recorded my own version. Come on over and have a listen anytime. Love y'all.
This video shows what an underrated guitar player he is. He has great feel and tone. I’d love to hear him make a record with the Truckers again. How about this? When all of this bullshit is finally over and safe, the Truckers make an album with Jason, Jason makes a solo album and they tour together to support both? If they do this, I get to make the poster for Florida 🤞
Is this the same thing as “not getting” Bruce Springsteen till you get older? Cuz im trying to get it but i can’t just yet. Side note - use a Gibson. A Stratocaster is not for that tone.
Man, isbell is more of a gearhead than anyone I know of and very particular about tone..the guy has enough guitars in his arsenal to humble many a collector. I'm sure a lot of thought was put into it... this strat was the tone for this one...
Saw him live yesterday in Berlin: Music&Songwritig in excellence. BUT: Interaction with audiance...not so good. No stage performing, no interaction, no positive communication with crowd - a crowd that holds his lyrics so dear and is deeply touched by what he has to say. Jason, please improve on that ...! Perhaps you can learn from Bruce's performing...?
One greedy man -- changes requirements for attendance to show which I support but then fails to refund monies for those unable to meet the new requirements. Pathetic. He literally stole $300 plus from me and my wife.

i enjoy Jasons music
[Verse 1]
This used to be a ghost town
But even the ghosts got out
And the sound of the highway died
There's ashes in the swimming pool
But I saw you on your wedding night
And I watched you sleeping in my arms
You didn't wash your make-up off
And you woke up looking scared as hell
[Pre-Chorus 1]
My love won't change
My love won't change
My love won't change a thing
You're never coming back to me
You're never coming back at all
[Chorus 1]
And the waiter made a young girl cry
At the table next to mine tonight
And I know you would have brought him to his knees
But you're overseas
[Verse 2]
Doesn't seem so long ago
We thought that we could change their minds
We'd stay here and fight it out
With a love that we could weaponize
But I saw you losing faith
And I was watching when the light went out
You know what revolution means
And you know it's not an option now
[Pre-Chorus 2]
And our love won't change
Our love won't change
Our love won't change a thing
I couldn't leave my father here
To finish up his life alone
[Chorus 2]
And I saw you in our daughter's eyes last night
When she caught me in a lie
And I need you here to make both of us believe
But you're overseas
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus 3]
Does your heart rest easy where you are?
And do they treat you like a star?
Or do they call you refugee
From overseas?
