Doug Bennett Sounds like that guitar must have better sound than any other one produced that year. It sure sounds tremendous! I can see why it haunted him.
I've loved Mark Knopfler since I was a freshman in college when "Sultans of Swing" was a hit. He's an amazing songwriter and guitarist. Still, this is amazing. Jason Isbell is the real deal.
Jason playing "Red Eye"; an amazing guitar with an amazing history of recordings and live performances. Rest In Peace Ed King...Im glad Jason has your guitar and not some millionaire collector.
My first ever show in 1989 was Dire Straits, seeing one of my current days favorites performing this song - just amazing. Jason found again another way to move me.
My sister and I were up in the balcony and she picked up on the tune after just a little of the intro... I was thinking yeah it sounds right, but he's probably got something else it will lead to. Nope... Brothers in Arms. Greate take on it... putting Red Eye to perfect use
So who were the cretins that gave this a thumbs down, this was a great cover of a song you don't see covered much, thank you for capturing this and posting it for those of us who don't get out much.
My best friend's dad committed suicide to this song when we were in high school. We were brothers in arms taking on the world after that, he was the best man at my wedding. Now politics has driven us apart. Dam these days we're living in.
With a friendship like that, don't let politics screw it up. We all have our own beliefs, but don't let it take away old memories or memories that will be created.
Sometimes when you have a disagreement and both are too proud to take the fist step back, letters can work wonders. If you explain why you feel for or against a politician, and use a past experience you share to help describe how you feel, you guys could maybe get back to being buds. Good luck.✌🏽.
What a fantastic version of this great dire straits song. Jason Isbell is an amazing guitar player as well as being one of the best singer/songwriters in the modern era. Outstanding...
It is amazing to think I have followed Jason's career for over 20 years. Initially with DBT and now as such a respected, confident and capable man, his demons in control. I love his music, respect the person he is and can't wait to see him in Melbourne, Australia next April.
Damn Jason, that's freakin awesome. My favorite Dire Straits song played on Ed Kings red eye !!!! That guitar has the home it was supposed to have. I think Ed would be proud and I also believe Mark Knopfler would be flattered as well. Sorry for the profanity, but this is fucking awesome !!!!!
This is the from three days later: www.nugs.net/live-download-of-jason-isbell-and-the-400-unit-ryman-auditorium-nashville-tn-10-23-2019-mp3-flac-or-online-music-streaming/24478.html
Interesting vocal and guitar phrasing. Putting his own stamp on this tune. I love Jason and love his playing. That being said....time to put a Marshall on the backline for Red Eye. There...said it. Pulse lighting...you guys kill it.
These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn To be brothers in arm Through these fields of destruction Baptism of fire I've watched all your suffering As the battles raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line on your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms
There's something so haunting about Knoffler's lowland English accent in this song...I cringe whenever I hear covers, not the instruments, but the singers. I have never heard a Southerner sing it. There's a bit of poetic symmetry, a bit of parallelism in hearing a Southern man sing the words. Almost...almost fitting? I dunno...
It is probably a full on very expensive Gibson Custom Shop of Red Eye his actual 59 Sunburst Les Paul... I can't imagine he would take the real item on the road...
One outstanding songwriter and guitarist covering the work of another. Knopfler and Isbell - two of my all time favorites.
Who's got the guts to take this one on. Jason Isbell!
Thinking the same thing…
He's got some guts
And humble to not be extremely embarrassed and ashamed
People it takes a set between your legs to tackle that song . He's always blew me away Everytime I listen to him.
Whatever he gave for that guitar (Red Eye), it was worth every penny. That tone is off the charts.
Check out this video of Jason playing it from earlier this year! ruclips.net/video/vnuenJKbkKc/видео.html
He's fantastic!
@@BrianBruner After he made that video, he said the guitar "haunted me".
Doug Bennett Sounds like that guitar must have better sound than any other one produced that year. It sure sounds tremendous! I can see why it haunted him.
He had to consult his accountant and add shows to this tour in order to buy this guitar. Worth it
Beautiful rendition of one of the most moving songs in rock history.
I've loved Mark Knopfler since I was a freshman in college when "Sultans of Swing" was a hit. He's an amazing songwriter and guitarist. Still, this is amazing. Jason Isbell is the real deal.
That was pretty f'ing amazing. Watching Jason's guitar playing evolve over the years has been a trip.
Jason playing "Red Eye"; an amazing guitar with an amazing history of recordings and live performances. Rest In Peace Ed King...Im glad Jason has your guitar and not some millionaire collector.
Saw it live. Insane experience hearing one of my favorite songs from my favorite performer.
I'm so jealous! This is incredible!
Dorothy Bellow saw it at the Georgia theatre show, absolutely amazing.
I was there that night. Awesome performance.
I sure wish I could have been there for this ...Dire Straits...man that is just haunting. And beautifully performed. Magnificentl!!
As a hardcore MK fan, Jason İsbell nailed it!!
To the four people that gave this a thumbs down, you wouldn't know good music if it jumped up and bit you in the ass.
Oh my gosh #jasonisbell you do this gem justice! Sweetness to my soul♾
God dammit, this is so good it's reconnecting me with this universe that I lately haven't felt a part of.
Wow, Jason I never expected a cover of this to come from you. Outstanding!
My first ever show in 1989 was Dire Straits, seeing one of my current days favorites performing this song - just amazing. Jason found again another way to move me.
This gave me the catharsis I'd needed after a few tough months. Amazing cover of an amazing song, and Isbell's playing is fucking fire!
releasing Cathartic energy rocks
My sister and I were up in the balcony and she picked up on the tune after just a little of the intro... I was thinking yeah it sounds right, but he's probably got something else it will lead to. Nope... Brothers in Arms. Greate take on it... putting Red Eye to perfect use
I love that he respects the classic works of Crosby, Allman Brothers, Dire Staits etc. real class guy.
So who were the cretins that gave this a thumbs down, this was a great cover of a song you don't see covered much, thank you for capturing this and posting it for those of us who don't get out much.

Forgive him, forgive yourself. If you still want your buddy in your life, the grace you show will be worth it.
Today's politics (and especially politicians) aren't worth that. Ignore the politics and fix the friendship.
With a friendship like that, don't let politics screw it up. We all have our own beliefs, but don't let it take away old memories or memories that will be created.

Damnit boy! One of my favorite albums of all time. Got it on vinyl and c d.

Jason is all grown up now ! I like is soulful voice.
An outstanding performance of one of my favorite songs!
Thank you so much for posting. Incredible moment.
wonderful

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
Stunning! Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful!
I admit I’ve never heard of this fella, but he nailed my favourite song, well done.
Watch him and his band The 400 Unit cover Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers
Welcome to a more beautiful world.
Mighty task done mighty well!
That sweet, sweet sustain! Great cover!
Oh my heart.
Sky doggin at the end of that last solo. Man way up there. Most excellent
A Brother from another Mother??
@@amcclery we are 'all men brothers' my friend.
Amazing! Would love a studio recorded version of this! Maybe on the next album???
Are you kidding me???? I LOVE THIS SONG#!!¡!!!!
just two years ago, but feels like a lifetime
Timely.
Amazing!
Amazing performance! The song is so easy to ruin especially being played in a much harder way than MK usually plays it, but Jason nailed it.
He soloed out of key in a couple of places but a very strong performance for an incredibly difficult song to play and sing...
@@motorcaster57 not out of key you just don’t know anything about guitar scales
I need a engineered quality audio of Isbell doing this track. I need it. I dont want it. I have to have it.

wow!
Jason did it again
Damn, just damn.
so damn good - an underrated musician covering an underrated musician.
I think people are noticing Jason these days but man watching his guitar playing evolve has been fun.
Thanks
One of those pretty rare, really special moments in public music performance.
☮️
Well done Jason....MK would abide...As would ' the Dude'

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arm
Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Jason makes Alabama proud
Red Eye was worth every penny!
Hell yes, glad to see it in a players hands and not in a collection.
6:43 mark, absolutely ungodly - Jedi level..
That may be the easiest part of what Mr Isbell did with this one
I wanna see Sadler play the money for nothing riff next.
I swear I have seen video or him doodling with the riff.
Fucken WOW!
I enjoy hearing Mark Knopfler songs show up in unexpected places
wow.... next up Telegraph Road?!?!
West Wing, Two Cathedrals ❤️❤️
Even isbell hits clams, makes me feel better.. lol.430 is mark.. hes is one of the best today.
Ho. Lee. Schitt.
...nah, I'm ok..I think I just got sumthin' in my eye....😢dammit Jason !
Does anyone know how he got that tone? Not a usual tone for him, clear, clean, sustain, balls just awesome.
Now cover "down to the waterline"!
This really channels the Knopfler..
Does the crowd even know whats happening??
Is this off the light blue album, with a guitar on it ?
Yes 😊
And the name of that album is...
@@olepetterpedersen2092 Brothers in Arms is also the name of the album.
Not just a guitar, my commenter, quite the special one on that wonderful cover
Whoever plays this song a good or bad version, it will always be compared to Mark Knopfler's version ( Gib Williamson Nessun Dorma on a PRS) ytube
You think?
There just aren’t very many that can play guitar , sing, and write songs like this fellow ,,,,,list is very short. I know this is a cover 🤓
There’s nothing he can’t do.
As good as this is and it is DAMN good, I mean damn good, incredible, it pales in comparison to Mark Knopfler.
it just doesn't sound right played in major chords
Belter...
It is probably a full on very expensive Gibson Custom Shop of Red Eye his actual 59 Sunburst Les Paul... I can't imagine he would take the real item on the road...
Failer it´s not a mistake until you get caught,
Why not just listen to the real song?
Slava Ukraini!!!
Heroyam Ukraini!!!
Jason is elegant and attractive. But he's not Mark Knopfler by any measure.
I think he realizes that, but damn he's good
Nope. Why did you even think you could do this...
Some songs just cant be covered, i love Isbell but he shouldnt have tried this.
One of the few guitarist/singers who can do the song justice. Fabulous stuff.
He respects the masters that came before him, Crosby, Allman Brothers, etc. real class guy great Guitarist himself.
