He and Sadler have woken the ghost of the old Allman Bros's twin guitars. Best guitar duo going at the moment.
dosn''t hurt to have that classic gibson les paul and SG tone.
How are people smiling and not in tears after that?? Wow. THAT is song of the year, record of the year, album of the year, and artist of the year. Damn.
Pretty easy to smile when you're touched by something that beautiful
@@WhyTheHorsefaceI’m pretty sure she did. Something sad can be beautiful at the same time you know
I can definitely say both times I've seen it live, I was grinning like an idiot. A tragic song, but beautiful and so fun to hear live. I had to save my tears for the songs I knew would really make me bawl. (i.e. Elephant)
I have known quite a few Kings of Oklahoma in my time mostly working guys who had it all and then just went off the rails and you don't even know why...next thing you know they're homeless and strung out... Jason nailed this shit like nobody else out there today
probably because of the kickass solo. it’s a rock & roll song dude. I don’t listen to music to be sad
I've been seriously stalking JI for more than a decade - it is shocking he's not a monster superstar. That is kick ass rock and roll with a heartbreaking story - absolutely unique in today's music landscape. Weathervanes is one of the best albums ever written, period, end of story.
Yeah I love Southeastern and all his other albums but Weathervanes might be a tie or even his best so far.
It's almost a badge of honour that he's not a superstar. Considering what sells millions these days. This song is phenomenal.
I’m still in my Southeastern era - but this a close second
The guy just sold out Red Rocks and the Mission Ballroom in Colorado. He is a major star.
Love it! And 100% agree.
It's like Steve Earle, Gram Parsons, Neil Young and 300 other musicians I like in one song. More power to you Jason...
I “discovered” him through the music of Steve and Justin Townes .
I am just an old lady now, but love this young man’s music…
Little bit of Tom Petty too :)
From the moment I first heard Jason Isbell with Drive By Truckers, it was clear he was a special talent. Over the years, he has turned into one of the all time great songwriters. And man has he surrounded himself with one hell of a band.
Holy. Shit. The fucking guitars in this! 😱 Chad kills it too. This whole band is just ridiculous.
Thanks for using profane language when other well chosen words would have sufficed
Proof the best live band in america in 2024
I LOVE Isbell...but Phish has just join the chat. :)
Jason is one of the best writers of all time. The way this guy paints a picture with his lyrics is amazing. You can feel his emotions in every song.
Chad Gamble is a monster. Unsung hero of the 400 Unit.
Chad is a beast. Without a great drummer, you do not have a great band.
true. isbell is a THE beast in whatever band he is in.
Yes. Dude is a serious hitter and has real swing. And looks like he's not even trying.
Weathervanes is a masterpiece. Jason is on fire in his art and killing it as a human.
Damn, Chad is so important to the dynamics of the 400 Unit. He makes that chorus come in with a bang! Sadler is also killing Amanda's harmonies. Can't believe his range. Isbell always inspires one to write better songs and that you're never done reinventing tunes in the key of G.
Jason Isbell is one of the best songwriters I’ve ever heard. His continued ability to write songs with such intimate detail, while still feeling so broadly universal is extraordinary! Each song pulls me in, has me living the life of that character & seeing their perspective. Hopeful, truthful, heartbreaking… again & again. Kudos Jason Isbell!
🎶❤️🎶
Truth
Well said
When Sadler takes out the earpiece he means business.
Seen Jason live for the first time in London 3 nights ago.....still buzzin just now after his performance 😊
Jolly good
Maybe the best song he's ever written, and that's a VERY high bar
To watch him and the band live is beyond inspiring.
Jason and Sadler trading solos at the end gave me literal chills. Goosebumps all up my arms. Every time I think this band reaches the peak of their powers, they bust through that wall like the Kool-Aid man.
😊
😊😊😊😊
Same!
Congratulations on his Grammy noms today, as well!!!! So deserved.
Kind of new to Jason Isbell and his band just watched Austin City Limits last weekend wow..... he ain't coming out to California all that often so go see him knowing a lot of us can't out here on the West Coast... nothing is grabbed me like king of Oklahoma in a long time it speaks to so many of my blue collar brothers that I know who have fallen on Hard Times just like the character in this song Jason really captures that in a way I haven't seen in years if ever... I just love the way Sadler and Jason turn this song out live into I Like a Hurricane Neil Young and Crazy Horse kind of thing✌️
He was in CA just this past summer. He will be back, don't worry.
Yeah I just saw the Greek Theater show in July. I’ve seen him 5 times and all were in California so you just have to keep an eye out.
Make sure you check out the songs he did when he was with Drive-by Truckers
And his cover of "Like a Hurricane"
This guys amazing! one of the best songwriter’s of our generation! Should be globally known by now, deserves to be.
Good luck at the Grammys, you already won as far as I'm concerned.
Quite a performance. I was feeing the Neil Young & Crazyhorse vibe in a good way.
That was my first thought too.
Yep, it sounds like an outtake from Harvest. That's a compliment by the way.
This one and Miles are so damn good live -- rockin the guitars better than most rock bands, but then again I suppose Isbell is pretty much a southern fried rock band at this point his career.
Yep 👌
Yes!
National treasure, that guy.
OMG, yes!❤
Anna has fit right in with the band, They're sounding as good as ever.
She's great.. she is sooo into it..What happened to Jimbo?
@@richardkenna149 I heard he was rehabing...
@@richardkenna149 The official press release was for "mental health".
I’m gonna miss Jimbo, but she’s a MONSTER.
so tight. Anna is owning that pocket and Sadler is conjuring Neil Young.
Do you know more about Anna--other bands / music?
@@vilicus77she’s Aussie 🇦🇺
I agree…no doubt channeling Neil Young….. I really like Anna , I could see her taking Jimbo’s place to be honest…..she’s can do so much with the stand up bass or rock out on the electric bass with no problems at all with volume or anything else…she’s cool as a fan and but she really brings it….man it’s gonna be interesting to see ..but he nailed the perfect bass player for the “fill in”…but honestly I think he knows what a shot in the arm she has been to the whole band…as well as the extra drummer/rhythm guitarist….
Really good studio song...outstanding live song.
All the songs on Weathervanes are so much better live -- even Death Wish, which I disliked when he put it out, was awesome live. I've seen him a bunch of times and this album plays live incredibly well, like he sat back and thought to himself, I'm going to make a rock album and see if I can get all those old people out of their chairs this tour :D
Was lucky enough to catch them in Grand Rapids MN earlier this fall. Beautiful evening. Great show. Love this record.
We were there, too. A magical evening
Sadler crushing those harmonies.
Mr Isbell, can I say you're my all time favorite.
Just saw him in Pittsburgh March 2024. They put on an amazing show.
Saw them at Heinz Hall on the Nashville Sound tour. Fantastic.
Amazing as always...Sadler and Jason are so in-sync with each other's playing...this is a tight band
ACL will be broadcasting this both Saturday and Sunday night at 11 p.m. I’ll be watching both nights. Sounded great!❤❤
this whole album is a ripper
Absolute 🔥 The 400 unit are on the top of their game right now. Just saw them at The Ryman at the end of October and they have never sounded better
I read a review the other day on the new album and when they said " they are as a group the equivalent of a 747 at cruising speed at 36k feet. " Smooth as glass.
I think adding Will Johnson to play a ton of different instruments has made their live sound jump off the stage this tour. Anna is kicking it on bass too. The band sounds at the absolute top of their game.
Agree with this 100%. But I still want Jimbo to be back and well.@@StevenWiebe
The only dude that can shred and make ruby red slippers look badass!!
Saw Jason Isbell Saturday night (4/20) in Baton Rouge…AMAZING show! They opened with this and nailed it! We’re looking at the 2024 tour dates to pick a city to see them again soon.
Phenomenal songwriter, musician and band
Good grief- that was powerful.
Jason is a master of his craft, and
the absolute best in the game right now.
Yes and maybe
Isbell/Vaden 2024 “Make Rock N Roll Great Again”!
Absolute banger from someone I’ve listened to since my dad introduced me to the Truckers in 2005. I just emailed him this link thanking him for introducing me this talent.
Truckers!!!
jason is such a special, amazing musician. my dad also introduced me to the truckers :)
Our dads are the coolest! :)@@bmrobinCLEMSON
Love Isbell and his band is kicking ass.
Amazing performance! One of my favorites from his newer stuff. Got to hear Sadler sing at an Isbel concert in August. Dude did an awesome job.
Absolutely brilliant songwriting. The first two lines of the song alone tell you so much about the character in the song without directly saying it.
They surely do
I'll fight all of you that gave this a thumbs down.
Damn this is such a good live performance of this song. Absolutely nuts! He really makes those P90s just rip! I hate that they cut out the cussing though :(. This song is just... the story of too many damn people. Jason is without a doubt, one of the best writers/performers of this era.
I was at this taping, it was amazing! This album is fantastic and adding the dual drum sets on a few of the songs is something special live.
Song is an incredible portrait of a life. I have not been able to get over this song.
Big Harmonies and Big Guitars!!!! Gonna Bathe in this Rock n Roll Goodness for a while!
Best song of 2023 and it’s not even close.
It’s part Neil Young , part Pearl Jam ( which is already part Neil Young ) and part his own unique vibe . Like it !
Love Jason Isabel and the 400 unit . They were fabulous in Chattanooga and I may go to Atlanta for more. The album, the man and band are amazing.
Three solos! YEs!
I feel like I could toss an accordion at Jason mid-concert and he'd still break my heart...
This is pure rock and roll
Loved it
Heart felt song
Killer guitar song. Gives me a Neil Young and Crazy Horse vibe. Love this.
Okay then, that was awesome to say the least!Unmistakingly one of Gibsons finer moments, sweet sounding guitars.
I'd like to hear a slightly revved up version alà 90s Alt Rock....
F**king amazing song, comparisons to a young Bruce Springsteen are not hyperbole.
Such a good tune!!
That chick on the bass is sick.
Jason is a national treasure, god damn that was good.
Jason adds Neil Young style riffs to his own without losing a step.
Dylan, Young, Waits, Cohen, Petty Springsteen....
Jason Isbell is putting CCR level bangers out in the 2020s.
Isbell is right behind Waits for me.
I am 45 and have not felt like this about any artists since I was 17. The only things in between being an adult appreciation of Paul Simon.
So explains the opioid crisis. Working folks get hurt on the job and end up in such bad shape.
not my oc...but how good do you have to be to be jason isbell's lead guitarist.
So good!!
Channeling Neil Young. Amazing!
I can’t be the only person who hears a ton of Neil Young in this? In particular - Ragged Glory era?
At the top of his game and that’s saying a lot!
southern rock is alive and well.
I think he writes some of the best lyrics with some of the best melodies.
Just incredible.
Who are the new folk in the 400 unit?? Where’s Jimbo?
He didn’t tour this summer for mental health issues
Will Johnson - a giant in his own right.
Nothing makes me feel like much of nothing anymore
The tone on that Gibson is just right
The P90 pickups are the key.
Powerful performance of a fantastic song.
That second guitar solo is pure Neil Young magic... so good!
Cannot wait to see them again at red rocks this year.
Such a live presence!
face melt
Heartbreaking, listen to the words
I'd buy this one.
The great Will Johnson on guitar
Best rendition of this song. Good omg the guitar dos solos was heart waking, this is a powerful song about one, and still is, the worst of what we allow to happen to our people. Pills have and can kill more than than Covid ever dreamed of. Tyty
Really Fantastic
That song rips.
Brilliance.
Absolutely unreal lyrics and musical accompaniment.Jason and his band are the BEST! Tough lyrics on this one but always in keeping with his themes.
Great job Guys for that grammy win !
It’s another gem in Jason’s deep, full drawer of gems. Bravo and here’s to continued success!
Do we really have to mute the word "$HiT"?
Texas freedom
Absolutely killin’ it 👊🏼
Agreed. Sounds amazing.
Somehow, I knew nothing of Jason Isbell prior to his Democrat Convention performance. Now I’m addicted to his music. Word up to the progressives!
Vote Blue
🔥
He's fantastic. I hear a lot of Peter Buck, Steve Earle, also a lot of Grunge in that guitar but absolutely original.
Oh YEAH
Powerful song great band.
The solos on this track riiiiiiiip🔥
