at 4:14 in case you missed it, he is singing and playing guitar, he steps his foot down on his tuner and mutes his guitar, he then adjusts the G string on his guitar while singing. And then resumes playing. It's little things like that show his musicianship. Some performers just wave their hand and a roadie brings them another guitar. This guy is good.

he is using in inline tuner. its made for this. by engaging it with the foot switch it mutes, you strum and adjust, it gives you a light when its right, you push the foot switch again and you are live again. it works perfect with the "in ear" monitors because you can hear the slightest variances and self correct on the fly.

Unbelievably, I just discovered this man, and his wife, this week. Ironically, we were in the same rehab at the same time, but I had no idea who he was. I've been checking out some of his, and Amanda's, music on RUclips this week. So far I haven't found one bad song. Not one. Not only do I think he is one of the greatest songwriters ever, but I have all the respect in the world for he and his wife. I've developed quite a crush on both of them. Lol

Jason Isbell was never played on the radio yet has had a successful career because his voice and talent forced the issue. He will never have money or clout like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc. But more's the pity. Jason Isbell's music makes me believe in the future. Love this song - still brilliant
The a Dirty South is an awesome DBT album - several stand-out cuts but this is haunting and wonderful. This is a slightly different version featuring some lovely guitar work and fiddle playing.
Jason is a great writer and is stretching himself - his albums with the 400 Unit are seriously good
    Southeastern another great record
Agree DBT still producing great music
Saw them on latest tour and English Oceans another fantastic record. Hood and Cooley still delivering.
Go Go Boots, Creation's Dark and Big To Do are all laced with trademark songwriting, and great playing.
Jason left on good terms with the guys - certainly in better health now he's stopped drinking, married Amanda and is getting the acclaim he deserves.
Long May Jason, DBT and Amanda Shires keep on entertaining us
    Gotta love good music

The space that they give before the solo is great musicianship in my opinion. Let it breathe and build it up. And build it up they do! Shires plays her best fiddle here I think. Absolutely serves the song.

@@lastnamefirst4035 Hiya Sue, I'm Damo. I was born and bred in Ireland where every social occasion was usually held in a pub, I started drinking heavily at 15 (was playing guitar and singing in the places too, every stereotype has a little bit of truth to it and with us Irish it's with the demon drink.) I started seeing a girl seriously (not Irish and out of my social circle ) who was going to University at the time..and when she'd see me waking up in the morning after a night out and heading straight to the fridge to get a 'hair of the dog' was the time I realised it wasn't right..I wish I could say it ended there..I'd gotten so used to playing so young whilst drinking I just had to kind of learn all over again..which led me to spending a lot of time by myself practicing and writing which lead me more to the lonely addiction of smack and benzos. I soon became a "junkie with a music problem" 😂 not the other way around. Have a handle on it for the minute but I'm 37 this year and speaking to a counsellor for the first time ever (I used to believe it would affect my "writing" 🙄 yes I was a pretentious little fella alright😂🤷‍♂️) realising now that half my life has been spent wearing a mask of some sort or other is a wee bit of an adjustment to make. But then again I s'pose the thing is to survive, and keep trying? I certainly hope so Sue. Hope this finds you well (sorry for waffling I do realise I went on a bit 🙈)

I call this song a modern “Stairway to Heaven” because it is something of a symphonic temple. What Jason has done here is create a hymn that we can weave our own thoughts into. All of us “old rockers” who have been around for a few decades have heroes who ascended the stairway too soon. Jason’s creation gives us something to project our own personal hero worship into……………………………………… Would Lynott have been proud of me? Is he the man I wanna be?.............................................enough said
