If we are just talking strictly lyrics this is a top 5 Isbell track. Every line, every verse, complete and total dominance from start to finish. Isbell is just on another level.
Ranking JI lyrics is a lofty pursuit. Every week I appreciate his lyrics slightly differently. One of the greatest writers of this era and a heck of a musician!
Used to play this j my car... my kids (8 and 4) would sing along with JUST the "ohhhh noooes" and "Ohhhh yes" tags. And that's how I knew they were listening.
@@carsonc1156 Ryan and Mandy Moore were shacked up together for a while, I think it's a reach (the whole moore/more which the OP is going for) great tune nonetheless, 1 of many great Isbell tracks.
@@damotheman4196 I agree I believe the moore/more line is a reach. Though I'm pretty sure the song is about Ryan which is what I was trying to tell the previous commenter. 🙂

Josh Miller The man she chose to take your place turns his collar up to better frame his face. How you’d love to hate her but you just can’t hate somebody you don’t know. Oh no. And did she leave a trail of crumbs So you could find her when you’re what you could become? Or did she know you well enough to realize that garden just won’t grow? Oh no. May 24, 2019.
@@denisewyatt1877 Thank you once again for your love towards my music 🎶 Do you mind if we talk somewhere private so I can officially add you to my fans group? I'm not on here much
Sadler is fantastic but I don’t understand why jason doesn’t do solo picking himself on certain tunes. He is a monster with the flatpick and hybrid style.
Don't take the vocals here as an indicator of his vocal skills. These are great for this song, but the guy has a lot more range than what you're seeing here. A lot of people are 'going crazy' over his music. They just don't play it on standard country radio because it's not generic enough.

Great comment. Dido
“you say love is hell but it’s the ghost of love that’s made you such a mess” hits
"How you'd love to hate her but you just can't hate somebody you don't know"
Right to the heart.

Going through a rough divorce that has left me heartbroken. This song is helping me heal. Such a great one
most of Jasons music will help you my friend. keep your head up you've got this!
Keep your head up, brother. Peace and love from Scotland…👍🏴🎸🇺🇸
Not one wasted word! The mark of craftsman.
this session was special. Every song from this was exceptional.
One of my favorites! The lyrics are just phenomenal
Fantastic
So well done. He is pure perfection here.
My two favorite musicians are Jason and Ryan... which makes this song extra amazing.
When you say Ryan...I presume you mean Adams, yes?
Love this song. Heck, I love 'em all!
Robert Ryan I'm with you.. He's amazing for sure
Heard this on Outlaw Country yesterday driving back from the mountains. Just had to look it up. Great tune
Welcome to the family Josh Timmons
Thanks a lot songwriter
This song hits all the right notes... feeling good. Thank you.
"did she know you well enough to realize that garden just won't grow' Ouch.
My soul is in love.
"Moore debris than you can sort through in one go" I see what you did there Isbell!!
Nicely spotted!
Help me get it

so good.
sadler your back up vocals were perfect.
In both this and the Tupelo video that was shot in the same session!
Jason and Sadler should do an acoustic tour like Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds have done. It would be EPIC!
Jessica Lienard I’ve seen Jason by himself and it was amazing. Adding Sandler’s guitar and harmony would make it even better!
they have the best r+r band around in the 400 unit. why would they want to do that?
Saw Jason & Sadler play an acoustic show in Atlantic City last December. It was incredible.
Funniest, yet coolest head turn ever. Oh yes 🕶️
Makes it look so easy
That's a great Divorce song.🍻
About Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore's divorce so I hear...

Dammit boy!!
Trucker or not, I struggle to find a mediocre song this guy's ever wrote. But Mike Cooley is still the stroker ace

DRA. The Farris wheel told me what’s up. He’s going fine
He's the new Joni Mitchell... I'm calling it.
He's the past, present, and future Jason Isbell. That's all. No one is the new anyone, We are all ourselves.
I love this song and I miss Ryan Adams so much.
Thank you so much I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎶❤️

This is alot better than the album version

Tripp Miller I like to think maybe because this is 400 unit album, he wanted to really show and support the talent of the band.
oliverandsass that makes sense. Hope u have a happy new year my friend!!
At 2:44 you will understand
Elliott Smith lives in Jason Isbell
I was thinking the same thing! Very Elliot like. Especially on the album. The vocal effects make it sound just like an Elliot song.
the minor chords in the chorus really do it
nice
I see Monsters, Ferris wheel exploding and falling to the ground, and hiding behind black metal shirts, yeah this song is about Ryan Adams....
and..........you say 'love is hell'....
right or wrong, you've got me thinking... especially w/ love is hell, as referenced below. mandy!
the man she chose to take your place turns his collar up to better frame his face....little dig at Taylor Goldsmith
a nice tribute to ryan! two of my favorite artists. Love this one.
Monster slayings, wont help in famley court. Lawyers just maken ya feel better about all the money their gonna take.
Song hits the nail on the head.🍻
The next Vince Gill.
That second verse is a brutal dig at Taylor Goldsmith, but it does make me happy that they're friends now
Ryan Adams
Something like that - guess I have to come out of retirement. Damn -
