I've been listening to this song for 6 years, yet I still got goosebumps the moment he starts singing. Please, Jason, please continue writing songs as thoughtfull, insightful, and moving as Vampires.
This is such a hauntingly beautiful song. You don't hear many love-songs that face the reality that one of you is going to die one day, so you'd better spend all the time you can with that other person before you're either dead, or alone for the remainder of your days. That's real stuff. I don't know of a better lyricist right now than Jason Isbell.
Raymond Rogers He's as good as it gets. If this ain't perfection I don't know what is. Here's my top 3 right now. 👑 Jason Isbell 2) Evan Felker (Turnpike Troubadours) 3) John Fullbright
Raymond Rogers if you appreciate music like this with some good heartfelt lyrics, you should check this one out 👍 ruclips.net/video/aw-PTVoblRk/видео.html Now bear in mind that I gain absolutely nothing for the endorsement of this song. But personally I believe that good music is meant to be heard and always worth the sharing. Cheers 🍻
Love this song so much. Just saw him. Knew it would be good but was blown away by the musicianship of this band. He and Sadler both basically play lead most of the time. Best show ever!
I had the honor of seeing this awesome entertainer recently at The Louisville Palace in Louisville, KY. He is a true poet and an entertainer extraordinaire along the lines of John Prine. Keep playing Jason. Seeing you live was wonderful!
There's an intrinsic quality to music that's unlike anything else on this earth. Whatever it is, Jason Isbell has clearly tapped into it and chosen to share that gift with the world. THANK.GOD. Excuse me in advance for going off the deep end here, but life would be so void of color and meaning without artists like Jason Isbell to inspire us along the way, and for that I'm incredibly grateful. Life is a thrilling adventure waiting to be had, and a challenging one to say the least. No easy mode, no cheat codes, no extra lives. If you're going to beat this game you're gonna have to do it the hard way. It won't be easy. And pain is inevitable because, well, how should I put this... Life's a crazy bitch hell-bent on killing you by the time she's done... She'll seduce you with her charm and captivate you with her beauty. But when you least expect it she'll pierce your veins, drink you dry, and rip your unguarded heart right out of your bleeding chest. Isn't she lovely? But just when you think you've had enough, she'll come swooping in with love & mercy like the bipolar angel she is, restoring you all over again. Ahh, Life... Ain't she somethin? It's an epic tale full of unlikely heroes & delusional villains, the latter of whom can't seem to figure out which one they are, which actually makes for pretty good fodder. What an incredible soundtrack inspired by actual events from countless experiences shared across time and space. And herein lies the magic... Music is more than just a Life's soundtrack. It's the medicine that heals our souls and helps to soothe the pain. It works almost like an anti venom, in that it was derived from the same sort of pain it's used to ease. That's the secret sauce. That's what makes it so potent. Music is the outpouring of broken hearts that refills barren vessels and leaves them overflowing at the brim. Unfortunately pain is a necessary part of the process. But I guess that's the price we pay for what can quite literally be described as 'the adventure of a lifetime'...
Derek, Thank you for that absolutely beautiful statement/post. This man's talent really is something special. I share his videos regularly on my FB page just because I am so moved by his music. I hope you don't mind but I copied and pasted your post to describe the gravity of his songwriting skills and what he offers. I did credit you in the post. Thank you again. Michael
What you said is what I feel too. I wish I could say it so adequately. The one thing in this life of mine that I have had to learn is that time is no healer. It is only an acceptor & in time you learn to accept. When you love someone it doesn't matter how long you have them it's never long enough! I hope I don't get left behind to have to live one moment without my love. In my celebration of life this song will play along with KANSAS Dust in the wind. P.B.F.H.

This musician can really compose hauntingly beautiful lyrics & his guitar work is very good. Sort of like Dylan but with his own soul - great!
The saddest, most beautiful song I've ever heard
ditto
Have you listened to his song elephants. That’s his second saddest song next to dress blues.
Phenomenal song and performance!!!!
Wow what a song this guy is a special musician.
