i am 54, i like to think i span a couple of generations at least. Isbell is as good as it gets. Period.
Our generations (born in 81) greatest songwriter! Brilliant stories set to perfect music.
Writing these four songs alone would be a hell of a songwriting career.
In my opinion "Vampires" is one of the best love songs ever written.
The fact that he gets to sing it to her on stage is enough to make an unsentimental, cynical malcontent like me get sweaty eyes.

How they can sing If We Were Vampires like that to one another and not cry is beyond me. I get blubbery every time I hear it. Jason and Amanda are amazing together.
“If we were vampires” is one of the greatest songs of all time.
@ it is a great song but I prefer streetlights live version. It is by far his most underrated song. It tells such a sad story about a drunk that hits so deep. If we were vampires is a great song though

If We Were Vampires hits me hard every time I hear it, but to see and hear the two of them sing it to each other was incredible. Beautiful beyond words.

I found her first, and am so grateful she to brought me to Jason as well. Her phrasing is always awe-inspiring, and the way her childhood turns one syllable words into two just delights me. If Jason messes this up I will find him in whatever gutter he's laying in and beat him down into it again. Sadler was a lot cooler when he was in a band in Charleston SC called "Leslie" and I opened up for them at the Windjammer...now he's playing with a grammy winner, and I'm playing dive bars in the Appalachian Mtns.....lmao I'm not being salty either, just sarcastic....Sadler will always be cool.

I spend way too much time searching for my favorite versions of Jason's touching, enigmatic and personal musical revelations. This is my discovery today and, once again, I'm led to open my heart to his healing, his sharing. Don't think I'll ever tire of this powerful voice, and the truths this remarkable man lays out in each song. Thank you, Jason.
Jason has a way of writing words that cut so deep and feel so familiar to my own life and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
How in God's name did they make it through that song staring right at eachother? I couldn't hold it together listening to it on RUclips let alone looking my wife square in the eye while I'm singing it.
the first time I heard this song, I was driving for Lyft waiting for someone needing transportation. I had to pull over and just be done for a while. It's a song written with such deep love and tenderness, it's too good to hear.

Ive seen Jason and the 400 Unit about 8 times now in all formats, small clubs, Jason solo, and in the bigger venues in London and a festival couple of weeks ago. Love all of them. Initially his acoustic stuff was what grabbed me but love the new album and the faster songs just as much now.Just goes from strength to strength.
His first solo show in London was a pure sweaty rock gig. One of the best I have been to. His songs can hit home in any format. It would be good to see a different format again in Europe now - but I can understand how he wants to push that Grammy winning album.
I really liked James Mcmurtry until I saw him open at DPAC in Durham for Jason 2 nights in a row. Played the exact songs and said the exact few words identically. He was just going through the motions. Not good.....
Saw him when he came to MN and it was one of the best shows I have been to in a while. I wish they could have played longer I was really hoping to hear some more throwback Brive by Truckers songs. This man has been underrated for a long, long time. Thank you for taking the time to upload this and get him some well-deserved airtime!!!
Great to see Amanda and Sadler stretch a bit. Seems Amanda dug deeper into the songs than I usually see in performance. This is one of the best RUclips uploads I have seen of them.

I am so happy that Jason got his life together and found his way. But I honestly can't relate to him the same way I used to. Still a beautiful songwriter and performer, but I miss the old Jason sometimes.
No offense, but as someone who was on the same road as Jason and also managed to get off it, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
He is still the same and in ways better- listen to Tiny Desk he jokes about aliens and LSD and in the new video when he sat in with the Highwomen the new band Amanda is in (they are amazing) he makes a joke about being gay! He was probably a fun drunk “up until a certain point” I know ppl like that. They have to take it to the next level and be offensive and an ass by the end of it!

That's the best version of "If We Were Vampires" I've ever seen or heard. Goodness me. He just continues to grow & evolve as a songwriter and artist, continually building this incredible catalogue of emotions and timeless moments. Quite simply, brilliant. The best of our time? Yeah, quite possibly.

There's not a lot of REAL music out there anymore... but Isbell and Prine are still keepin it honest.

Jason is currently 41 in 2020. For my money, when this was recorded in 2018, he was the best American songwriter under age 40. He’s still on another level.

yes mr.Isabell is a great song writer.His song are very straight forward. He stands up there with todays great song writers.
When my favorite singer/songwriter John Prine says he is great I know it isn't just me that thinks he is. Damn I wish I had the ability to write so much into a song, a short story that you can read while drinking a cup of coffee driving down the road at 70 MPH and know all about the subject in less than 5 minutes. I didn't come up with that quote about the short story, I don't have the ability to come up with something like that, if I did I would have a tiny bit of the talent Isabell has.
