Whoa there, Uncle Larry. Heard me some fighting words. . . ha ha! I imagine a good number of ladies listen to this channel! I am not a guitarist, at all, but I've listened to nearly every episode. My husband, on the other hand is a guitarist and tortures me with hours and hours of You Tube videos about pedals, documentaries, "how to's (like build you own amp, guitar and amp repair) - you know what I mean, but heck, yours is just about the only one I really enjoy and listen to - somewhat religiously. If work is sucking hard, I'll put on a video to sooth the angst. YOU Good Ole' Uncle Larry are a conversation piece that helps bind my husband and I together. I've learned so much that helps me behind the scene's for my husband's bands. I like your keep-it-real-no-bs personality, smooth voice and heck, your playing ain't half bad (ha ha ha - joking! I can actually pick out your playing in a line up!). Also, God Damn Gildan! Here! Here!
I’m a gal and I love your channel, Tom! Alas, my guitar skills are less than rudimentary…but my sweet husband’s been on fire since he ran across your videos. It’s been joyous hearing him play. I really enjoy your perspective on everything-and your sense of humor-I laugh out loud at some of your wry and witty comments. You make our day! Thank you for all you’re doing and putting out into the ether!❤
It was my pleasure Tom! All of the contestants did such a great job, there are some super talented players out there for sure. Thanks so much for the cool shout-out! I've been a fan since day one.
I must be a real dumbass because I'm still trying figure out where to find a fine video compilation of a bunch of "badass guitar players" doing their bendy thang. I will search until I find....looking forward to the viewing.
You mentioned Amos Garrett. Just so you know, he’s alive and well and still gigging up here in Alberta. We had a flood in 2013 and he got wiped out. The musicians held a benefit concert we were honoured to play to help him out. Great guy. Amazing musician.
Girl watcher here. As in, I'm a girl and I watch your channel. Wish I was good enough to submit a vid but that will take some time... here via Shane who is helping me get better if not good enough to enter one of your contests. No matter, I get something of great value on all of your vids and I love your sense of humor. I particularly enjoyed today's comment about always playing a song. That is brilliant. Cleveland native now in Nashville btw, so hats off to ya', homey. You make this Ohio girl proud... and inspired :)
You were right about the Flint! I have a female lead singer, and she flipped out and said it was giving her chills with those settings! Those settings are amazing! We do some Raido Head, and it is spot on! Once again, a BIG THANK YOU to the Starship Trooper!!!!
When I lived in the States, whenever I went to a coffee joint or a restaurant and they asked for my name, I would just say "John," after so many instances of being called "Akira! (famous animated movie)," of "Arturo! (Spanish, I think)." But then, my best friend said: "Dude, just use your last name." It was a genius suggestion, and worked liked a charm. (BTW, there are close to 2 million Suzuki's in Japan) I absolute love your inspirational, melodic, beautiful playing, and your honest no BS humor and wisdom. Thank you for everything you share with us. (I never comment but have been watching since the Corona Lesson days.) P.S. My wife calls you "The middle aged man from Nashville" (with loving affection) since Bukovac is a very difficult name to pronounce in Japanese : )
I think one of the awesome things about the competition is we all got to see each other who really love and respect your playing. It was so interesting. It’s a lovely thing you’ve built Tom.
Hey Tom , I graduated high school in ‘98. I think your right about the internet not being around when we were younger. Some day 30-40 years from now people are going to say “hey he’s so old he grew up without the internet” I feel like it’s a point a pride to be part of a generation with the last connection to a old world without internet or cell phones. Remember walking around the neighborhood knocking on all your friends door’s looking for someone to hang with on a dog day of summer? I don’t think kids do that anymore. It’s a complex world now a days. Idk sorry for the ramble.
I grew up without the Internet. It was being developed while I was in my 20s and 30s but wasn't really available until I was 45. Now I'm 72 and it cracks me up how people take it for granted. It is flippin' complex.
Christine is my favourite car movie of all time. My father made me obsessed with ol’ 50’s cars. We actually owned a 57 dodge Regent. Very close to the look of Christine. First vehicle I ever drove was my dads 56 Chevy short wheel base side step truck. v8 327 cubic inch engine. 👌 I think that’s why I like your channel over other guitarists channels, you’re a car guy too. I know all car guys are alike, just like all guitarists are alike and have that common ground in common. Cheers.
A channel like this wouldn't of happened back in the day, just like 200$ decent sounding amps, 175$ decent playin' guitars , you and Rick beato, Marty, Phil x and many , many more have been spilling the beans and we are the grateful recipients. I bet there's some old cats that sit around sayin' these young cats are given away all our hard earned secrets.
Good advice on many fronts today. As an aging boomer, I had no choice in the '60s but to learn the hard way by figuring out solos and songs "drop needle" over and over ad nauseum. But that is the best way to develop your ear. And always be in song mode - keeps you playing music instead of random noise. Thanks for the validation on those points, Uncle Larry.
Ha! When I was a kid, about 15 years old, just learning the guitar I went to the music store looking for sheet music for classic rock songs so I could learn to play them. The guys at the store laughed at me and told me I had to learn them by ear. I didn’t even know what that meant. I played trumpet in the school band and we had sheet music! So WTF??? I thought to myself. The trumpet served me well because I had a good basic understanding of music and had developed an ear already. But skipping the needle back and forth to learn a song made me a much better musician. (Not that I’m that good) I’m glad I went through that learning process. Honestly I still do the same thing today when learning a song for Sunday (church band). Yea, if I had RUclips then I don’t think I would have developed the same way. But YT does have its advantages. I do watch you and get very inspired. So there is that!
My first car was a 62 Plymouth Valiant push button automatic that met a tragic end on High School graduation night. Always loved Duel but I love this channel more! Your site is a gift to the world. Thanks
Tom, my son loves baseball cards, so I took him to the store the other day to add to his collection. while at the store some elderly lady said to him "They won't matter in a hundred years", I turned to her and told her "Neither will you." Just let kids be kids.
Hey Tom you should come and play in Europe!!! I'm sure here TOM BUKOVAC is the best rock sounding name!!!! I've never stopped thanking you for all the beauty you spread around but Tom, I'm telling you over and over again, you should make a record by yourself, just you and a guitar. you are a session man and you are used to play with others but your music and your poetry truly shine when you play alone. Listen to me !!! Your sound alone is too good not to have its own record !!!! 🔥🔥🔥
RUclips is what got me back into guitar after a long long hiatus. I played when I was young, never very well but I enjoyed it, but then gave it up and sold my guitar when I found myself going long stretches without picking it up. Then a few years ago I saw all the RUclips channels devoted to guitar lessons and thought that it would be a fun way to do some physical therapy for my hands, which had become nerve damaged and arthritic over the years. I'll still never be very good, but it's been fun learning some new stuff. When I was a kid the only way I could learn was from library books, I was poor and the internet wasn't even a twinkle in Al Gore's eyes yet. For folks like us RUclips has been a great resource, this channel not the least.
The 2 things I love most are laughing and listening to killer music and every single one of your videos brings me both so kudos to the best channel on RUclips!!
Most of us aren't blessed with cool names and those are cool names, your name is very unique!I believe what everybody knows about you is your good heart that shines through clearly. There are countless stories about people creating Showbiz names, you are a genuine cat Uncle Larry!
this episode had me cracking up this morning . thanks Larry. " its the only thing I have in my life that's close to a hobby! is that so wrong people?" you are a beacon of common sense ,wit, dignity and charm.
Hey Tom just watched all the videos mr McLeod posted thank you Dave. Milk killed it with”that chord”. My God it melts me. Thanks for all your content and influence Tom. Your a gift to all musicians
Duel is a great movie! Actually the truck driver is seen in one quick clip that shows his face in the rearview mirror. Great movie! The Car was also a good movie. James Brolin!
Good Morning Uncle! Today's video description was quite interesting .Thank you for this and a big Thank you to Classmate David McCloud for the fantastic job done on the list of String Bending Wizards! ❤❤
Have a great Sunday. You’d left out two of the greatest country names of all time; Johnny Cash & Meryl Haggard. & Bukovac ain’t a bad rock name. Sounds like a Jetson’s character. Thanks as always!
These videos and channel make me so happy. First off, Stonehenge! Second, the viewer who said he accidentally sent his string bending contest entry to Tim Henson 🤣
Got a chuckle out of your Talk Box comment. Was recently watching videos of your Joe Walsh tour and wondered if you ever had Talk Box duties and what you thought of the gadget. I always thought it sounded cool but don't hear anyone ever using it anymore.
Man, if I was that cool and had your hair and chops, people could call me whatever they liked! I just like my daily dose of "Buko". Best channel ever. Thanks Uncle Larry.
At one time lived at 3000 ft in the blue ridge mountains- fell in love with the music and the people but not the winters. Ole Grandpa Jones tried givin me some pointers back in the day but unfortunately I became just another guitar bum. Uncle Larry is the Coolest ! 💪🪕 🤟
Even though my nonsensical blues noodling was passed over in favor of actual guitar playing, I still love you, son! Had a good time listening to as many entries as I could. ✌️ Also, it's kinda interesting that "Duel" was one of Spielberg's first pro flicks, and he went on to do "Jaws." Man vs. Truck, Man vs. Shark.
UL - sitting in front of my parents turntable in 1976 with my alto sax, trying to learn Chicago's songs, was the key to both making me love music and also train my ear. Lots of fun. Hey Uncle Larry! On the subject of RUclips making things too easy: I want to say that yeah, if you started last week but for those of us that started say way back in 1980 with a crappy acoustic guitar- before tabs-and found themselves as the only 10 year old at the local rec center taking a folk guitar class, then graduating to slowing records down to 16 1/2 on my Dad's record player to cop licks cuz EVH said he did it ( and yeah I broke the damn thing) well...I think I've earned the right to just search up RUclips to remind myself how to play the Kid Charlemagne solo cuz I already learned it by ear off the record in 89 ✌️
Lambertville, NJ .. many years back I was staring at a No Smoking sign .. and that popped out! I like to believe Nozmo was the illegitimate 3rd cousin of BB, Albert or Freddie :)
Another great video!Really enjoy the content. In case you arent aware...Joe Perry looks cool with the talk box. thanks so much for all the great content. Cheers!
A couple vids ago when you said, "... Something that rhymes with HarleyDavidson;... Charlie Davidson!" - I fukn lost it at work. Listening in headphones and coworkers looking at me like I'm crazy cause I'm just cacklin outta nowhere.. Good one Tommy. You should def add that to your list of nicknames.. 👍🏼
I agree with you 100%. With all of the great content, even yours, online, I spend a majority of my time looking for great things to practice rather than spending the time practicing the great things I'm being shown. Finding a healthy balance is the trick.
Wow, that’s an impressive set of Tops 1957! Seriously impressive. I once had a 1977 set that had Walter Payton’s rookie. I to sell them back in the 90’s but it’s still a good memory
The "most of the guys watching this show are white guys" line, cracked up this just turned 60 white guy. "My Uncle Larry outfit" was another. I asked you in another video, "forget favorite guitar/amp, what about favorite Twilight Zone episodes". Would be very interested to hear your choices. "Time Enough At Last" is one of mine. "The Howling Man", "Dead Man's Shoes" are a few more. And yes, I'm grateful that I had to learn, by ear, off records or cassette, in the ancient days. The hours spent rewinding over and over to learn those Page solos. But these days, I won't lie, I do use the Internet to learn new things, in addition to CDs, by ear. Sending love from Hawaii, where the "Plexi Soul" CD is getting lots of play in my car. Your music moves me. Thanks for being a bud to us.
Like you, and I’m guessing many of the Homeskoolers, I had to learn it all on my own. Listening to songs hundreds of times, or watching much better players oh so intently. Unlike you however, I plateaued somewhere maybe a hair above mediocrity. Nevertheless, playing live with my friends and bandmates is still the great passion of my existence. Your channel has been an inspiration for sure, and I still get so much out of it. The bend contest was awesome. I’ve found a new mission. Thanks again.

"Tom Bukovac" is a Rock'n'Roll name now for sure. 👍
Happy Sunday! This is my favourite channel on RUclips, always a good day when there’s a new video waiting for us all.
thank you bro

Tim Henson "Is he the Muppets guy?" Hahahhahaa, What a great deadpan delivery of that joke.

Got a chuckle out of your Talk Box comment. Was recently watching videos of your Joe Walsh tour and wondered if you ever had Talk Box duties and what you thought of the gadget. I always thought it sounded cool but don't hear anyone ever using it anymore.
always great advice from little tommy.

Always great and valuable wisdom that you share! Thanks for everything you do for us, Uncle Larry.
I have a friend who makes up such good nicknames that people's moms start calling them that. It is true gift.
Even though my nonsensical blues noodling was passed over in favor of actual guitar playing, I still love you, son! Had a good time listening to as many entries as I could. ✌️
Also, it's kinda interesting that "Duel" was one of Spielberg's first pro flicks, and he went on to do "Jaws." Man vs. Truck, Man vs. Shark.
Mountain Larry always keeping it about the music...Carry on!
Audley Freed is a great country name! He seems like a good dude.
Love the six string!!!

There's millions out there who'd love to be Tom Bukovac
Dude, you have made "Tom Bukovac" one of the coolest effing rock names I've ever heard just by being Tom Bukovac. You are one bad mofo.
Not only are you my favorite guitarist you make me laugh out loud 😂
Hey Uncle Larry! On the subject of RUclips making things too easy:

Ganjo's are cool! Another gem from Radio Free Bukovac, beaming guitar goodness around the globe 🌎

HAHA! I just huffed my Sprite I was drinking when you started playing Spinal Tap. Too funny man.
Yes The Car. A very very great movie. 1970 something 1977
Dude! You have an awesome name, and more importantly, you play, and compose/ construct pure emotion....The Good, the bad ass, and the ornery!
Enjoy your wisdom for sure, I find there is too much info available on the web.
Uncle Larry is my spirit animal
“I wrote that on a trip to India”. Ha ha!
Beat(le) that!
Thanks Tom 😄

Amen to the “always be in the song of the moment”.

Dolled up! Lol Love you Tom!
Truth be told, and a little-known personal fact - I've always secretly called you - Mountain Larry! Much Love!! ❤
Great stuff as always
Like you, and I’m guessing many of the Homeskoolers, I had to learn it all on my own. Listening to songs hundreds of times, or watching much better players oh so intently. Unlike you however, I plateaued somewhere maybe a hair above mediocrity. Nevertheless, playing live with my friends and bandmates is still the great passion of my existence. Your channel has been an inspiration for sure, and I still get so much out of it. The bend contest was awesome. I’ve found a new mission. Thanks again.
The comparison between session work and prostitution gave me a good laugh. Thanks for that.
