- Uncle Larry shows you how to do a long forgotten ancient technique of picking the guitar.

the best part of this whole video is when Tom says "Chuck Berry was pretty creepy"! Give this guy an award for honesty! Btw, Love the shirt.
Good god, that guitar/amp combination is GLORIOUS.
Agreed, but Uncle Larry can make any guitar and amp sound glorious.
Are you doing good work? Are you doing good work?!? Tom, I’d go so far as to say for some of us, you’re doing life saving work, myself included. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Hey Tom,
Back in the 90's I was VCR taping TV talk show clips of cool band performances. One night Letterman had Wynonna on and her guitar player was
fabulous. He played an old blue LP JR double cut with one P90 - same guitar I had just sold. I had no way of knowing who he was but man, what playing and what a sound! Some 25 years later I'm watching Homeschoolin' and you mentioned touring with Wynonna years before. So I dug out that clip (I saved them all) and son-of-a-bitch there you are! I just watched it again and - wow! I thought you might get a kick out of that story.
After 59 years, you are hands down the best player I've ever heard.
wow man, you saw that?

This is one of the best tone I've heard in a while... great.

Priceless...
Uncle Larry, you will never bore me with anything Steely Dan.
Your take on Fagen's vocal style is spot on. I wouldn't want to hear it done by anyone else. He sold the irony and entendre perfectly.
Wow you bring all us hacks back to the day when we thought we were relevant or cool.
Breaking Bad and Baby Blue is a prime example of film and music being so powerful together.
That box has some serious growl! I love that there's one single dot inlay at the end of the fretboard
That single dot inlay is pretty cool.
Yeah! Great show today!!! Thank u!!!
Great lesson, more to chew on!
Thanks Larry
:)
That is killer!! Love the tone and the playing is incredible.
You are absolutely most definitely doing great work man
I love that guitars tone!

One of my best childhood memories
summer camp Bolton Camp Milton ontario canada
This might be one of my favorite videos of yours. I’ve always thought the way you do those chugging bass lines like in this and gut bucket blues just sound so cool: takes a special combo of touch and timing. And today you showed us how to do it! Thanks man: appreciate all you do
Wonderful guitar!
Great stuff Tom
This technique is very cool. The raunchy sound is awesome too!
You do Awesome work brother, I love this channel, I loved the tones today and I love you brother, Thank you again, Stay cool and thanx for keeping it REAL..
Hey Tom, I find myself habitually focusing on your right hand . It’s all sooo awesome. Thank you so much.
Your playing that guitar reminded me of Alvin Lee, good ‘n raunchy. Love your channel, greatly appreciate your lessons and stories. When the wife falls asleep on the couch, I pull up uncle Larry on RUclips.
Thanks Tom. Good work. This is One of my favorite RUclipss. Just bought a shirt from ya. I will wear with pride.

Entertaining education is the way I hear it! Inside baseball on the studio scene and sideman chronicles make me feel privileged. Keep it up!

Ooh Lawd that do sound mighty fine !
💪🎸 🤟
Yes Uncle Larry, yes you are doing good work here! I appreciate your channel and you personally for every single video you post
.
Raunchy and sweet. With a touch of Thorogood.👍😎
I'd say it's an overload of "entertainment" in social media and elsewhere that makes this channel stand out even more. Simple and relatable, and not least very educational and inspiring.
Heavy pinky anchor
The perfect groove paired witn the perfect guitar and crunch.
Love that raw sound..,Some fast licks reminds me of the late Alvin Lee .. Cool stuff Uncle Larry !!
That relation between sound and visuals is something I've been fascinated by, and tried to work with, for most of my life - I'm a synesthete, so a lot of sounds already have masses and densities and colors in my brain, and I've definitely gravitated toward instruments that look like I want to sound. It can actually really mess with my perception, because some guitars LOOK like ugly sounds to me, regardless of what they sound like.
It's so weird, just a couple weeks ago my keyboard jam buddy and I decided to go nuts on SD, and low and behold there you are with it for the last few vids! That kind of synchronicity happens a lot on this channel. Thanks for mentioning 'Afterlife' again, it's one of me and my wife's favorite shows. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!
This was maybe my favorite episode you have ever done. What great raunchy and difficult playing.
So Amazingly Awesome. Very Cool, Thankyou.
I was only listening to the opening music, and it sounded like open-E slide licks at some points -- very cool! Thanks for reminding me to dig into Magic Sam's guitar style.
Thanks for Homeskoolin.' I look forward to each new video and what you have to share with us. As a teacher, you are a natural and I enjoy your take on being a musician and sharing your knowledge and experience with us. The guitarists and band you often discuss are usually favorites of mine so I appreciate your takes and opinions. Keep rockin'!
Your channel has become a regular part of my normal week. If I didn’t have it, I would really miss it. Once again, thank you so much for caring enough to do all of this. 🥰👍
That Tee needed to be made! Congrats on whichever Klassmate put in the work!
Great veranda summer afternoon swampy blues tone.
agreed. that guitar is awesome or it is awesome when you play it like every guitar you play. tom never stop man!
Funky riff, thnx, you tore it up. OMG, that 335 of chuck’s was filthy good.
How lucky can anyone get learning from a True guitar/ session man. It's really good of you to keep doing the channel and just being cool
Yes Uncle Larry, every moment, every note, every feeling… thought you share… is “great work” and everyone of us listening is richer for it… regardless of if we’re aware of it in the given moment… Thank You!
It's going to take at least 20 minutes for my stank-face to resolve after all that raunchy goodness. Lord, you groove. Simply inspiring, Uncle Larry.
Tom that jam matches the shirt... what a great way to start out the week. You've really got raw command over that finger work. Always love watching you play
Oh Uncle Larry, That was stunning. Keep up the good work? Man, that was funny,
I always look forward to new Uncle Larry content and especially the new cd coming out with Guthrie, ready to put my money down. Btw, home skooler viewers are some of the best people on Utube, very kind and intuitive. Have a great day!!!
sound and vision for sure ,hard to separate that ,really nice axe that National, cudos!
Way cool Delta Blues style cheap guitar raunch! Great insight Tom! And the Epiphone amp is a diamond in the rough!
Man, Uncle Larry, that’s a raunchy take on Mississippi Delta Blues sound. We need some of that in today’s music.
Thanks for the Venmo address, I’ve looked everywhere for that damn tip jar.
That guitar souñds perfect for that opening jam. That was nice.
Uncle Larry, totally love the t-shirt!
Love the jam...And the shirt.
Hey Tom, that first Christopher Cross album is a solo guitar sleeper album- Cross’s ripping outro to Ride like the Wind, Jay Graydon does 2 super cool solos - one with some interesting EVH tapping stuff- Larry Carlton ripped 2 and one by Eric Johnson.
Congrats on 20 mil!
Uncle Larry.... You're correct! "TONE IS HEAVY AND HARD TO CARRY".... But you always seem to do a good job at carrying it well ! Nice groove for sure! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Tom!
Beautiful National, love your sound. gramps had one like it in the ‘60s along with matching amp. Grill resembled your Pickguard. Strings were about an inch above the board but he played mostly cowboy chords was a tall blind Texan who loved to play and sing. Much thanks for bringing back old memories.
Thanks Tom
It just so happened that the one time I had both a 'good' electric guitar and an amp at the same time in a long time, I came upon Home Skoolin'. It has been so helpful and fun. I will always be an acoustic player first and foremost, but Home Skoolin' has provided me a super highway to the heart of what electric rock guitar is all about. Riffs, gigs, hot seshes galore-- yeah yeah yeah.
What I love is how much you love it, Buk. That's my jam.
That was some heavy tone and it was carried quite well. Love it. Never took the kids to summer camp but I’ll never forget dropping off my daughter at daycare for the first time. Hardest thing I ever did
The studs on my Levi’s would wear on the back of my Les Paul. My Aunt bought it for me brand new in 86.
Thanks for the cool trick vibe Tom!
The most important thing I've learned from your lesson is to keep the audience's attention just with my guitar. Being spontaneous and confident without overthinking...play and keep the line.
That old National hollow body ad Epiphone Amp sound good 👍. Keep up the good work
Dude take care of this Larry it’s the only one we got. ❤
Tommy two phones you’re a true Cleveland savage!!! I look forward to every episode. It’s hard to find anything like your channel in today’s world. everything on TV these days seems like someone is trying to cram someone else’s viewpoint down your throat. God love you brother keep on keeping on Love it! Perch & pierogies forever!!!👊
Master Class in Delta vibe. I can see the moss hanging off the trees.
Man I love the tone of that National, I have always enjoyed the sound of an old hollow body trying so hard to feed back in the hands of someone who as the talent to harness the monster. As always you never fail to make smile!
Kinda billy gibbons tone
Early Morning Session??? Time is relative I guess, hot swapping dazed states... play on man! Loving it raunchy!!
Love the T shirt!
A super non-polite guitar. Perfect description! Thank you
I'm loving this tone! That rig is just nasty! 🥶
I have that one of those amps! They are amazing!
Those amps are great. Barry Coodigan digs these… one of my favs. Thanks Unc.
Holy crap...the riffage starting at 11:53 is too cool. Love that old style...playing something I haven't heard before. Surprise maybe isn't everything, but it's killer.
I would love to play that through my little 1951 National amp. Great licks unc-L!
Uncle Larry aka Restless Hands ,
That jam just transported me to Route 66 in a convertible mustang , wind blowing in my hair and a sudden urgency to get where I’m going real quick 🤘
Good work? You're doin' God's work! Thank you always!
That Natural sounds amazing!
Tom you are a sound wizard
The double neck is unreal, and my favorite out of the bunch
Your ability to play the harmony of a song and accompany yourself is insane
The new New Minglewood Blues. Very good Unc.
What a tone!
Best intro jam ever!❤
Uncle Larry, some great points in this video, especially about judging with your eyes. As someone who has been blind from birth, I definitely can relate to what you’re talking about. I remember playing gigs where people would judge mine and others tones based on what guitar they saw, saying things like “oh that. Guys tone is better with the guitar with all the fancy inlays or the vintage guitar, where if they hadn’t been able to see what guitar the person was playing, I know their opinion would have been different. I do think it’s interesting, especially with music, that looks play any part at all, but I guess that’s just a product of modern culture. Anyway, love your videos, even if I can’t see what guitar you’re playing, they all sound fantastic. I definitely didn’t get all of the shoot out guitars right, but I did pick the SG, and that one actually sounded the coolest to me. Keep rocking brother, thank you for everything you do!
