They have implemented the scanning here in central NY. I’ve seen them turn numerous folks away at the door. I really enjoy viewing your videos. Thank you!
Your video today touched (maybe indirectly)on a subject that’s been on my mind a lot lately. Loneliness after being retired. It seems as if I don’t do something alone, I don’t do it at all. There’s just no one there. I’m at the age where many of my closest friends have passed on, & we relocated before Covid. I know few people where we live now. Also, I think it’s more difficult making friends when you’re older. It was so easy when I was young. I used to like going to Golden Corral because I’d see other elderly people there, but the one near us shut down during Covid and then never reopened. One thing I’ve noticed lately during the effects of our economy is that restaurants have either really raised their prices or cut corners on the selection and quality of their menu items. I normally don’t go out and eat alone, but you’ve inspired me to give it a try. Life is short and it’s getting even shorter. Btw, I appreciate your “talk” days, Russ. Have a great rest of your week. 😊
I suppose the video did touch a bit on "loneliness" after retirement, even though that wasn't originally the intent. I think this is a good topic to expand upon for a future video. I can see how this can happen as we get older. People do pass on and even at my age of 65 (soon to be 66 in January), several of my high school classmates have passed already. We started doing more reunions even before the 10 year anniversaries of our high school graduation... doing them every few years because we are losing our friends. I hope you do get to go out a little more on your own if there isn't someone to go with you to enjoy a bit more. And thanks for liking the new videos. It keeps me active and talking to my viewers through a camera does help me deal with the days on my own. 😊
I just ate at golden corral today. I don't visit the close golden corral because it isn't all that clean or the food all that good. But I choose to drive a little further to a nice clean good quality food golden corral in New Braunfels, TX. I love that one. They also have a Sr. Early Bird special that starts at 10 am and ends at 4 pm. $10.50 and includes drink. Can't beat that!
Yeah Russ, stuff we liked are either not as good as it used to be, or more expensive or out of business. Golden Corral checked ✅ off as “ not going back.” Our retirement world continues to shrink but it creates opportunities for better choices 👍🏻
I've eaten at the buffet in Arlington Heights before it changed over to Golden Corral. I recall them being open for breakfast. Thanks for the video. I've never been to Golden Corral.
I rarely eat out unless I go out with a friend to try out something new, usually not a food chain restaurant. So, it can be a tad pricey but only happens maybe 3x yearly. I really love my own cooking best. Thx Russ, now I know at least I’ll never go to GC 😉
I LOVE restaurant review videos. more like this! also movie reviews TV shows, if one is a fan of a certain vlogger I like when they branch out. btw the choices look good to me. when you go to places like Arizona, why not review a restaurant you went to. things like that
I haven't been to a GC in years. There's one in Algonquin that I ate at once. After my wife was diagnosed with diabetes and lost a lot of weight, she doesn't have the appetite for a buffet. I just haven't thought about going by myself. I don't know why restaurants cheap out on napkins. The places that have really good ones, you can get by with one or two. The cheap ones cost them more in the long run because you need so many. My 2 cents.
I have (had) two Golden Corral's within five miles of where I live. One east and one north. They have gotten so bad that the one east of me went out of business and the one north of me is on life support. The last time I ate there it was horrible and it was in fact the last I'll ever eat there.
No more Russ videos before breakfast. You life will improve greatly when your wife retires. Only isolation by choice. In the mean time we will hang with you 🙂 My GC is very good. At least at breakfast.
Sorry that your dinner wasn’t very good. Nothing worse than dried out food. But I did notice one thing about the buffet selection; y’all have spinach whereas we have turnip greens or collard greens. And I’m definitely a “mixer” when eating. Have a good Monday afternoon & hello to Mrs Right……Dan
I think they have knives available by the area where the steaks are grilled for the dinner service. But they don’t give one when you walk in. They only give you a fork and a straw.
Our golden corral has been bad for years. I’ve tried it once or twice after it went downhill and I won’t even go back into it. Is it worth the price? Absolutely not like you I’d rather get a piece of pizza.
In the eyes and stomach of the beholder, as well as the hands of the staff who prepare it!

Just made a Costco walk-thru video today. Will likely release it after Thanksgiving. 😊

Some Golden Corrals are just fine. Sounds like yours was a good one.
There's lots of lone wolf's out there. It may be transitory, but you're not the only one.
🙁

Old County Buffet was far better. I agree.
@@RussIsRight Oh yes that's right that was Old Country Buffet.
@J0j0m10 Yes it was.

@elayned6147 It is probably ok at other Golden Corrals. But this one isn’t too good anymore.

Yeah, those cheap napkins aren't worth it to anyone!

Sad that places just go downhill and can’t fix their issues to survive.

😊
GC here in Ft Worth is filthy and nasty.
😳😳🤮
At least our restaurant is clean and neat. Food… too dry and not replenished often enough. Service is not always there either.
Thoughtful insight on retirement. What was your blood sugar after 2 hours?
It went from 110 to 126 Mg/dl.
Has their quality ever been up😂?
😳🤣
They raised prices again. Not worth the extra money anymore.
😳
They don't give you a knife? Is that for the servers protection or your fellow diners? 😂😂😂
I think they have knives available by the area where the steaks are grilled for the dinner service. But they don’t give one when you walk in. They only give you a fork and a straw.

🍕
Their food has always sucked
🙁
Only if I was starving, and would die of starvation if I didn't eat there.
Hahaha! 🦃
Golden Corral never known as a fine dining experience. Food bad for you beyond just the blood sugar.
Yup.
It was always sh*t -- funny title.
You're lucky you're eating anything in the US now with this economy. 😂😂😂
