Slow sparring and mitt work really helps with not closing your eyes, cuz your gonna be able to see punches and get used to seeing them. Also you can put your guard up, cover your face but look at the punches thru the guard, just tell your sparring partner to go easy.

Yeah some coaches suck. You're supposed to do light sparring first to get used to working on your fundamentals. Maybe consider agreeing with one of your gym mates to have some light rounds. Get used to keeping your eyes open, not flinching, and pulling your hands back up after you punch. If the sparring is lighter you aren't as afraid to make mistakes and have more time to improve. Then when it's time for heavy sparring you'll know what to do. You can even request light sparring for 5-6 rounds after you get used to 3 for building up endurance.

So helpful dude, all my problems you explained in less than 12 mins. thank you so much
If there was a gym with a trainer like Jason around my town I would be a much happier man. Thanks for tha content Jason!
Thank you VERY much for the "holding your breath" part!!! It's simple, but i hope it can help me with my short breath in sparring! Really, I haven't ever thought about this!
Man , thanks to these info👍
I have to watch this again and take notes. Thank you for the tips.
You’re going to make me a monster before my next event, keep up the great advice!
Thanks for your video. Even as a child lesrning Karate, it was drilled in my head to keep your hands up. The same defensive strategy i employ for kickboxing and have never forgotten it.
Your video reminds me that not everyone gets their hands up in defensive posture when just practicing on a bag, but its absolutely important to drill this into your head so you never drop your hands in a real fight, in the ring or God forbid out on the street.
Great content mate, thank you
Thank you so much sir, this is gold for people who is a beginner like me.
Greetings from Chile.
Thanks coach, great content as usual
Good mate. Thanks.
Been watching you for years. Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you put in to this channel. A lot of invaluable info on here.
Continue to and have learnt a lot from all your content. Thanks!
Thanks for all this 👍
Man, this is golden! Thanks again for pure valuable channel.
Not having an exit plan is definitely my biggest problem. This was great.
Great stuff, often too neglected during classes. 👌
Great video sir thank you so much🥊
Very helpful! I feel I’m at a bit of a disadvantage not training mma until I turned 22. But being able to work on striking outside of the gym as well is gonna be a game changer! Your channel is amazing. I am definitely gonna drill these
Your not at any disadvantage (your are slightly but don’t make it a big thing). I sparred the NATIONAL Champ at 147 pounds after 1 year months of boxing (I’m 24) and frankly I beat him up.
Are you obsessed? Because if your not, it won’t matter what age you started
Peace and Love
I'm 45 years old beginner :) Thank's for precious advices.
Exactly the video I’ve been looking for. Thank you! I’ve been struggling with relaxing when I spar and this is definitely going to help
thank you coach
You helped me allot especially sense I been outta my gym for a while
I wish I could become Boxing World champion

Of all the videos you've done on defence basics, this one has got to be in the top-3. Thanks
For tip 1, the speed and cobra bags are GREAT pieces of equipment to get for tip 1.
What was Tip #1 about I got the Cobra bag myself...
I always watched your shorts for 2 years almost, now I really started to train kickboxing and I never thought your videos are SO helpful for a simple and slow beginer with many flows as me
Keep doing what your doing. I’ve been watching you since 2017 and learned a lot from your post and vlogs. Appreciate your work and passion in boxing! 🥊👍🏻💪🏻🙏
Best coach on RUclips!
Get your grandma to put the gloves on! Nail it !!! Thanks for the content coach 👏
Very good instructor!💕
This is some good shit! 😩
Nice tips. Thank you!
0:28 I threw a fake jab so he gets his guard up and got him with the hook
Excellent teaching, thank you!
Grandma still dropped me lmao
Almost 70 years of ass whooping experience, grandma could take on AJ
Great video
That thumbnail made me laugh so hard lol 😂
Same
That's how I look when my wife starts nagging me
Looks like Roe Jogan
You're a genuine scientist, man! Thanks for sharing.
I’m a slim built 6’0 157 with a 76 inch reach and naturally athletic I’ve been boxing for 6 months now and luckily I grew up watching the sport so I was ahead of most but thank you for the videos because my main focus as of now is defense because with my reach and speed my goal is to get into a position where my physical gifts and defensive skills make me very difficult to hit in-turn making it a lot easier to counter and destroy dudes from the outside
exactly, you still have to develop all sides of your game.
Pls put an update, on your progress brother❤
Wow...this guy really knows his stuff. I think I will start watching him more often.
Whenever I'm Shadow Boxing I always start or end with a defensive maneuver
Thanks very much!! I'm a MuayThai amateur fighter, and I was trying to work this guard defence if mine since while I'm sparring or fighting I noticed that I do not came back fast with my left hand and there fore I took many clean shots like punches, elbows or even kicks. I'm still a begginer but with the help of my coach I would love to became a professional even though I'm 32years old, I'm willing to put on work, and ready to do whatever it takes! He recommended me some exercises but as he told me : " I know about MuayThai, but not about boxing , I don't know everything" so I decided to take some box classes at least for learning how to foot work properly and eventually adapting all those techniques to my MuayThai training and fighting. I'm really Powerful, I never ever would imagine that o can Puch that hard, and i would like to learn boxing techniques to use my power the proper way 👊🏻🙏🏻
My grandma is a body puncher, i cant take that risk..
Hahaha
So many learning points shared in a very less time ❤ you are a fabulous coach.
Concurring with everyone else commenting: namaste for this stuff!
This is the most useful boxing video I have ever seen
If you did virtual padwork with sugar ray leonard combos my head would litteraly explode
Frick yeah
i NEEDED this as a quiet kid, always getting picked on who knows what could happen, thanks for the video i need it to defend myself
Yes, boxing will help. If you can join a boxing gym that's even better.
