- After shooting the gunners and when I was sure that this Wellington had no defensive ammo; I went to a close formation to see the damage from near, and to give the final shot.
Recorded in v1.05.15950 patch.

In 1943 Luftwaffe fighter pilot (Bf 109) Franz Stigler took the sky to take down a damaged B 17. When he approached the bomber, he could not believe it was still flying. Pilot Charlie Brown was shot in his shoulder, his crew was either dead or wounded. Besides Brown was going the wrong way because he lost his instruments. Stigler flew next to Brown's cockpit and waved to the anxious Brown that he had to turn around. Stigler escorted the bomber to prevent it being shot down by german forces. He guided Brown to the north sea and then headed back to base. Brown made it home. Stigler reported he shot down the B 17 above sea to prevent casualties on the ground. Brown was not allowed to tell anyone. The two met in the nineties and remained friends until they died.

The damage model is awesome indeed. You can even see the twisted flaps of the bomber shaking with the air flow. Someday I'll give CoD a try, although I like Il2 1946's versatility.
Although its just a game - the guy was heading home, shot up like hell, and not able to fight anymore. You should have come up on his 3 o clock position, salute him, and turn back to the Gartenzaun. I would have done it that way.

Most be difficult to portray aircraft ditching in the water, because even this beautiful game just shows a big water splash. Sort of unsatisfying.

Well, when a plane slams into the water, that's mainly what you're going to see.
Similar to how most explosions you'll see IRL is 90% dirt.
I think the bomber pilot thought you might let him go home. Kinda mean to kill him.

Related story to this, during a raid over Germany, a B-17 was severely damaged. And a ME-109 was closing in on it, however, when the ME-109 pilot saw that the crew was injured, he escorted the B-17 out of the dangerous territory. The ME-109 pilot and a crew member of the B-17 eventually found each other and were friends.

Can someone tell me how to aim in the sight? Or is it some kind of ''key'' in the control settings that you can change? If so, what is the aiming thingy called in the control settings?
I have used every key on my keyboard and still i havent succeded with aiming lol..

Yes, reflective sights were relatively new about that time.

Hey, im a beginner at this game and i have many issues with flying, for example, my engine sometimes blow up, and i go down and crash, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and the next one is that i start to loose altitude while my aeroplane is flying in circles and then i crash... Help me please!

Detail is phenominal , great film, I wonder how many round the Me109 had because I believe fighters only had enough buulets for an average of 1 6 to 10 second burst hence short squirts of 2 secs a time!

I remember watching this years ago. Now that I got the Blitz edition I found this video again and can't believe it's got over 700k views :D It's terrifying how realistic this is. Must have been very rewarding to finish this poor guy!

The story that I remember most, is that of a German pilot who had severely damaged and wounded the plane and crew of a british or american bomber.
The rear gunner was too wounded to fight back, and saw the german pilot come fly up behind them. He braced for death, but death didn't come.
He opened his eyes and saw the german plane right behind him.The german then flew to beside the cockpit, and saluted the American pilot. The pilot saluted back and the german broke off, back into the fight.
bf110 vs. vickers wellington?
Yeah i've read that the bf109e had lots of .30 cal ammo compared to the spitfire and hurricane wich only had about 30 seconds...but anyway, in the video he is flying the Bf110 but i belive the numbers are pretty much the same.

at first i thought it was a dumb zbuffer glitch, but there are holes in the airplane! incredible realism. best i've ever seen.

Sobretodo gracias a los pedales y estar trimado lo mejor posible para la velocidad actual. Por aquel entonces creo que todavía me funcionaban los pedales Saitek y volaba con un CH Combatstick. Ah, la curva de sensibilidad ajustada para que de poco mando en el centro y progresivamente más hasta los extremos del recorrido, eso ayuda mucho con la precisión.

You have to trim your ailerons and rudder with the trim keys. Otherwise the propeller torque will keep twisting your plane.

@ctjchefchef BoP you are talking about is an arcade console. This video is about Cliffs of Dover, which is a serious Pc simulator and yes, you can fly from the cockpit of He-111, Ju-88 and Stuka.

Close, but not quite. The German pilot actually escorted the B17 all the way to the channel. The two men met up again after the war, but both have sadly passed away.

Try Shift F1. But I use a head tracker sensor, the Track IR, to aim with my head.
I liked this game. Although it took more time trying to optimize it and struggle with controlls (not having rudder pedals) than having actual fun.

That's not a problem of the oy. Your propeller's torque pulls to the left, you have to correct it by using pedals/rudder.
@TUCKIE10 if it runs like this i have no doubt i will buy it ;) i just wanted to ask because when this game came out the performance was horrible, even with expensive hardware.

@TUCKIE10 i will probably buy a better power supply if i upgrade my gpu... for now this pc is enough! its a shame that cliffs of dover has such performance problems; dont know if i buy it soon or wait some more. gonna play some il2 1946 now ;)

Im pretty sure in this instance the Wellington was just above stall speed. From the looks of it as well it seemed the left engine was going out.

@zockerapfell It should work to you, not at its maximum graphic level but almost... and what about your power supply? I've seen lots of people with a big pc but with an insufficient power suply (600-800w), and these are the typical Pc's that have problems running CoD. This is why I have a 1000w and some people are running fine with 1200w...

Only thing missing here, no wake turbulence is represented in the sim. No way a plane could fly all over behind a larger aircraft like that without encountering wake turbulence. Nice vid though.
Very good, but the Wellingtons and other British bombers operated at night. Day bombing was really rare.

Computer AI is the pits basically. If that had been 1 on 1 with a human pilot, the Wellington wouldn't have just sat there waiting to be shot down.
