+Gingeas Edit: As of Aug 24, 2017 I now know full ZBLL. I don't know all of ZB :P. That was just a solve where I happened to know the ZBLL case. To be honest, that was kind of a dodgy one. You could argue that it was really just CFOP with a forced PLL skip. It would be easy to make one another vid with a more "legitimate" ZBLL case though.
Wow I just got this recommended and this is cool. 6 years ago and 10 methods back then? Dang things have changed Edit: ok now that I looked into more, might be 10 methods? Might be variations of cfop? But I mean still, still really cool.
Edit: as of Aug 24, 2017 I now know full ZBLL No, I don't know full ZBLL (nor MGLS for that matter). That solve was just a solve that followed all the steps of ZB, nothing more. I know maybe 20 ZBLL algs in total. Yeah, I actually think it's somewhat illegitimate to call it a ZB (or MGLS) solve when I don't know full ZB, but I was just following the same "rules" as other people who had made "sub 20 with 20 methods" videos before, such as 5BLD and kirjava, who also don't know full ZBLL. Honestly, I'm not sure if I actually believe that this video is really sub 10 with 10 methods, since a lot of the methods are very similar to CFOP. However, the way I see it is that I'm just making another version of the sub 20 with 20 methods videos that many people enjoyed, following the same rules. Also, if I was making this video today, I would probably use ZZ-CT instead of ZB, which might make it a bit more legitimate.
I paused the video and started solving my cube. beginner's method: 48.917 CFOP(2look oll and 2look pll):54.817 Roux(2 look CMLL): 33.701 ZZ(2look pll) :1.20.564 Me : Tao Yu is a Machine
How many algs do you know? And I’m in the process of generating 1LLL but with phasing, it will be about 1000 algs. I’m willing to to share it with you when it’s done.
In ZZ, you orient all of the edges at once at the start of solve, before F2L, in the EOline step. For LL, you are free to do whatever you'd like. In ZB you orient the edges after solving the cross and three F2L pairs and simultaneously insert the last F2L pair in a step called ZBF2L. Then you solve the last layer with one alg in the ZBLL step.
I've linked to tutorials for each at www.speedsolving.com/threads/sub-10-with-10-methods.53489/. I also have some example solve videos at ruclips.net/video/zPi7y0uFf2Y/видео.html. I think the existing tutorials for these methods are pretty good already so I don't plan to make my own.
Have a look at this link: www.speedsolving.com/forum/threads/beginners-guide-to-choosing-a-speedsolving-method.43471/. It's a reasonably good guide on how to choose a method as a beginner.
+TheMineologist Right now, my favourite method is probably Petrus, followed by CFOP and then roux. My PBs are: Method: single/average of 5/average of 12 Petrus: 7.xx/9.58/10.95 CFOP 5.36/7.21/8.26 Roux 6.81/8.9x/9.81 Of course, you should really try out the these methods yourself as these are just my favourites.
+Justin Gore The only methods that really took me time to learn were CFOP, roux and ZZ, because they have some very different steps, such as LSE, and EOline. With knowledge of these three methods though, the rest really only took one or two readings of the steps, because they're just variations and/or blockbuilding in a different way. I also didn't learn any new algs for this video, and just used ones that I had learned from CFOP, so that saved me some time. I'm afraid I can't quite remember how long it took me to learn CFOP, roux and ZZ, but if you're interested in knowing how much work it took to get to this point, I've written a reply to another comment on this video about it.
The only reason I'm not getting sub 20 averages is probably because I take too long and have rapid amounts of pauses during F2L and my transition and look ahead is pretty bad.
Why can't he be world champ?..he knows those methods but already anticipated and memorized the solve..feliks and max park cant even do this considering they are the best..this guy didnt even get an official world record solve.
+Shivam Rathi It took me ~3 years to become sub 10 with CFOP and ~1 year to become sub 11 with roux, and the rest probably took a month total because there are many similar steps and skills that transfer over (for example, six of these methods use a form of F2L).
Kristoffer Balintona Well, for me, CFOP was the easiest to improve on because that's what I started with. I think Roux and ZZ should both be just as good though for improvement though. The only thing I would say though, is that out of the three, CFOP probably has the most online resources available (example solves, algorithms, guides). I answered your second question in a reply to Girish Firefreeze in another comment. Here is what I said: "The bulk of the work was done in getting consistently sub 10 with CFOP, which took me around 3-4 years. A lot of the skills that I learned from CFOP carried over to the other methods, especially FreeFop, MGLS, CFCE, ZZ, ZB and the Roux-CFOP hybrid. I think it probably took me less than ~30 minutes each to get sub 10 with these methods, as they're so similar to CFOP (with the exception of MGLS, which took annoyingly long for some reason). I filmed the roux solve a long time ago. I think I practised roux seriously for about a few months and got down to an average about 10.5, so the 7.92 was just a nice solve for me. Columns and petrus just took a bit of trial and error. I just did loads solves until I got a nice scramble. You can see that I was very happy to get the petrus single, because of how long it took for me to get it.
Tao Yu Thanks for the reply! And I agree with you in the aspect of "The only thing I would say though, is that out of the three, CFOP probably has the most online resources available" as I am beginning to learn ZZ for an OH method and there are practically no viable resources I could use to improve! The only resources out there are Phil Yu's ZZ tutorial and Conrad Rider's text tutorial. I think ZZ has the LEAST amount of resources out of all of the "Big Four" methods even though (I dont know this for a fact as I haven't been to a competition before) ZZ is more popular than Petrus. However, as Phil Yu stated in his tutorial, he enjoys the aspect of ZZ where you can contribute to the method yourself as there are many tips and tricks you can discover and publicize to help develop the method. This was a bit of a long reply so sorry if it bothers you :P Just wanted to share my thoughts
Kristoffer Balintona No problem. I think you make a good point. It can be a good thing or bad thing depending on how you look at it. There's more to cubing than just getting fast :) Edit: Also, a lack of resources shouldn't be a massive drawback anyway. Look at how fast Alex Lau improved.
CFOP is the one I'm fastest with, and the one I use at competitions. Right now, I actually seem to be practising petrus more, but I wouldn't say it has become my main method.
Pained Yew146 check out the link in the description (the one that says "method descriptions and other information"). There are also lots of other roux tutorials on RUclips.

+Roman Uvarov Thanks! I used an Aolong v2 on some solves and a Fangshi Shuangren v2 on the others. The aolong v2 is the one that has a logo on it.

this is possible by tao yu himself as he learnt 472 algs for zbll and has high info capacity

Petrus: 7.xx/9.58/10.95
CFOP 5.36/7.21/8.26
Roux 6.81/8.9x/9.81
