I bet the ideal for you would bea Suzuki V-Strom 1000 for the speed, off highway options and a solid touring machine. I would love to check one out ASAP. I just got a '94 FXDWG Harley and also an '86 VT1100. I'm still really contemplating grabbing up a '96 Kawasaki ZG1000 or a Yamaha VF1200 as more of a quasi Euro style sport tourer, which definitely have the extra storage space, great speed capabilities close to 150-165mph. Definitely not a go anywhere machine like a Teneré or an older Honda Alpina 750 parallel twin. I just checked out an '02 Yamaha XT600. Not fast by any means much like a KLR650. Having an extra cylinder like a V-Strom 650 would have smoother power. I think the 1000 would be my choice after I get an opportunity to ride both. The Versys could also be an option... I hate German cars, somehow BMW seems to make a decent motorcycle but I just as a rule steer far and wide from German engineering. KTM could be an option... Husqvarna, and a plethora of other manufacturers are going hard onthe bigger adventure bikes but they're significantly taller and can be a handfull off road unless you know exactly how to ride certain terrain and go full bore so you don't dump it😅... That Yamaha Star Venture looks like such a killer bike for long distances and comfort I would take that 1900 cc over any Harley-Davidson personally. They're somewhat cost prohibitive out the gate but seem like super reliable machines, plus they're air cooled and have plenty of amenities from the factory. I want to see one stripped down and not sporting all the fairings and hard cases. I think it would be a sexy machine without (although with they're pleasing to my eyes compared to the Batwings on the H-D's)
I just picked up a 1997 shadow 1100 with crash bars n all kinds of extra goodies. Vance n Hines pipes Paid 1450$ 35k miles I come from a 2000 Suzuki savage 650. This coming Monday I’m listing the Suzuki for sale So far I love the Honda! Don’t know if the speedometer is off on the Honda. But it sure seems to climb the MPH real fast Had it up to 108 on the test ride Also. This is one of the best Honda shadow videos I’ve come across
You got a great bike there and that Honda 1100. I'm guessing your speedometer is off mine was. Get a GPS app on your phone check up with that. My 2006 would put the GPS right at 100 miles an hour and a speedo would read anywhere from 110 to 120. I truly regret trading off that Honda. I love the bikes I got now I would just like to have that Honda back. Enjoy!
@@forgottenmotorcycles I had a suspicion that 70mph didn’t really “feel” like 70mph I think this Honda shadow will be the perfect commuter bike. I put 1500 miles on the Suzuki in 2 weeks time In November I change jobs and my pay rate gets tripled I really want to get a Honda vtx 1800. Or something real close to it Also very fond of the Honda st1100 and st1300.
I have reached 22,300 roughly on my honda shadow. I bought it new, and its a bit worn now becasue i ride it hard and dont cover it, but i am meticulous about oil changes and required maintenance. I love this bike. Shes a 2015
Nice little bike bro! I gotta 2011 fury i traded in a 09 cbr 1000 rr for. But imma old fella now and I love the fury more than every bike I’ve ever owned. The fury is the coolest bike I’ve ever owned. In a totally different way tho. Can’t beat a Honda. I already know.
I've put a few hundred miles on the Fury. Feel that it's one of the great motorcycles of our time. Why? Let's start with how she looks...runs and handles. Truly Wahoo!
I think you would really like a kawasaki vulcan 900. I had one that i put a taller rear sprocket on and it did everything. You said you wanted. Freeway speeds no problem and I'm 240lbs. Amazing range with a 5gallon plus tank, amazing fuel economy. Comfortable for all day riding. But no, it also did not do 110mph. But man it did everything well! And it's fuel injected.
I agree. If we're buying the Honda I actually looked at three v-stars. Unfortunately the deal fell through every time. Would have been a fine bike I think
A new biker here who just passed the knowledge test this morning. I'm getting a 2004 Spirit 1100cc with 5,500 miles on it and costs $3,500 in two days on Feb 21, 2023 (Today is 19th). Your wahoo videos are my go to ones for research and learning. Kudos to you and Japanese solid bikes. The only thing concerns me about this bike is that it does not have a fuel gauge. I know people say this "zero the trip meter after you tank it up" or "open the tank cover, shake it, and take a look." Any other ideas? Ride safe and ">" ---- that's my two fingers.
I used the trip meter on my bike. The tank does have a reserve so there is that. However, I didn't like to run down to that so I'd fuel at about 125 miles for normal speeds, if I was on the interstate or running over 75mph I'd plan my fuel stops at 100 miles. One thing I'll share is that this bike is heavy and can be a hand full when pushing it around the garage or parking lot. I dropped mine twice in 24 hours while doing this. Great motorcycle for sure and I do regret trading this Spirit 1100 away. Congratulations!
@@MrAlex305fl Yes! It is a solid good bike! Only 5,880 miles on it. All chrome parts are shiny, stock pipes already sound very good to me. Really love it. Thank you for asking. Ride safe.
A replacement bike for the shadow 1100 spirit might be a new rebel 1100 dct . They have a good reputation so for. I have a shadow 750 spirit 03 ,and a 05 goldwing . They are both great bikes and have their good and bad points , but together they are a blast.
Might want to wait u might have to get a fuel injected bike once the e15 fuel is the normal,I stopped at q.t gas station last wk they already have the e15 in texas but for now there still selling e10 but for how long
You're spot on about that new Rebel 1100. Did go look at one and was impressed. Maybe I'll be able to find a good used one in a few years. Thinking they do have cruise control stock too. Would be a great bike. What are the downsides to your 750 and your goldwing? Also, what is the valve adjustment period for the 750. Going by your bikes I'm thinking you live a good life :) PS Where about are you from? Thanks. Wahoo!
I just hit 60,000 on mine! Mine is a 99. I do need to do some maintenance though. The cylinder head camshaft plugs are starting to seep a bit of oil so I'll need to replace those. A bit of a pain in the ass, but thankfully I'm an ASE certified master mechanic so I can knock it out over the weekend.
@@forgottenmotorcycles Mine specifically is a Honda Shadow 1100 American Classic Edition. So it has the nice trims and badges. Absolutely beautiful bike in all black.
Got to respect a man that gets this bike. Im sure that bike will go well over 100k miles. I think the front tire is mounted backwards? The tread should be going the other way?
Dang dude, now I've got to go out and look at my front tire! Just kidding, thought the same thing when they put it on but the tire does have a direction of travel arrow on it. Both tires are good. Love this bike. Thanks. Wahoo!
60k you're just breaking that bike in, i totally agree with you on the shadow 1100 being the Toyota corolla of motorcycles, never had any issues with mine at 35k just replaced the diaphragms in both carbs because they had slight tears in them and also put a stage 1 dynojet kit with some slip ons to give her some more juice 👍 don't ever get rid of that shadow 1100 it's an excellent bike

Hey Fuzzy, Great seeing you put on the miles. I’m looking to get a new windshield and you mentioned that you have a Memphis Shades. It looks like what I have, mine is a handlebar mount. Mine is just a cheap one and looking to upgrade. Which Memphis Shade do you have? I like the fork mount. I’m not sure yours would fit my 86 VT1100C but I thought it’s a good place to start. I Enjoy your content, keep rolling!
Unfortunately I don't own that motorcycle anymore. I do remember it was a Memphis shades and fork mounted. It also came off without tools. It worked very well. I wish I could help you more. FYI, those Hondas are awesome motorcycles. Congratulations on your bike!
Thanks for getting back with me. I haven’t sold a motorcycle in years but with 7 I can see the writing on the wall. I’m curious what you’re riding now. I know you have other bikes also so maybe you are riding them. If you got something new I’d love to hear what it is. Maybe you have done a video about a new bike and I just haven’t seen it. Signing out from Yakima,Washington. Ride safe!
I’m considering one of these when my wife lets me “upgrade” to a bigger bike. I have the “baby” shadow a 2000 vlx. It’s my first bike after taking the msf last year. I bought it for $1800 with less than 5k on it, only needed fork seals and tires. Also it’s retaught me carburated vehicles lol.
It’s fun, the previous owner didn’t ride it much, and his wife told me he didn’t enjoy it. In the 6 months of having it, I’ve put 1500 mi on it, when it’s been warm enough for me to ride. There’s something about riding a bike that’s fun and enjoyable.
Those worked great. Got them on amazon. Search this: Kuryakyn 3597 Motorcycle Foot Control Component: Riot Mini Board Floorboards Without Adapters, Satin Black, 1 Pair
Thank you so much for your great video! I’m going to buy a honda shadow vt1100 1992 in a week and I’m very excited about it. However I don’t remember know what should I check on it, any tips on before buying a shadow? Looking forward to hear from you Kind regards, Jerry
I'd say look at the overall condition of everything on the bike. How straight is the body, what do the blinkers and levers look like, is there any major scuffing or dents or bends. Look at all the fluid levels and note the condition of the fluids and such. Drive it around the block, on some regular roads and take it down the highway too. If possible, have a mechanic look at it. I looked as many bikes before buying LaSombra, if anything seemed odd I moved on. The world is full of good motorcycles, we just have to try our best to find them. Good luck!
Are there any other bikes in the 2000-2015 years that have a similar seating/handlebar/footpeg relationship? I have an '83 Suzuki Tempter GR650 inline twin that has a similar look and I really like how comfy it is for my 5'6" 170lb frame. BTW, it seems that used bike prices have gone up along with everything (Bidenflation), and there are very few decent examples of your bike. I do have a Himilayan but it's not designed for any freeway driving with less than 25hp, but it's great for back road riding.
I've picked up a 2012 Triumph 900 that works very well. It has a low seat and preforms great. Use it when I'm not riding my Himalayan. Another great bike that I just love is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Took one out for a 130 mile ride yesterday and would buy one tomorrow if I were looking for a new bike. It comes with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty too. Will say that I love the Triumph but do regret trading in the Shadow.
If you like the v- twin bikes in metric cruisers the Honda state line 1300 or interstate, or maybe the Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Very similar setup. Medium weight cruisers that are very dependable and easy to maintain.
My Shadow was one of the very best long ride bikes I've ever owned. Equal but in a different way is my current RE Himalayan. Just love that versatility of that motorcycle. Worlds full of fun motorcycles. Wahoo!
What tire pressures do you run on your Shadow? On my ‘04 Sabre 1100, , I run 29 up front, and 40 rear. Pretty sure that is maximum recommended for bike. But I’m a big guy. Seems to ride better with full tires.
I haven't owned that motorcycle in a few years now but do remember the tire pressure was listed on a sticker on the left side of the motorcycle top of the swing arm. I think I ran the tire pressure recommendation from Honda on that sticker.
@@Gary-ys6ei if everything looks in good working order I would gladly pay that much for it. Paid 2200, I think, for mine with a bad fuel pump in the middle of winter. Just back into riding after 20 plus years away! Have purchased a 2007 Honda Shadow 750 c4. Out of all the bikes I’ve owned over my riding years, this Shadow is the best I have owned. As as you say, does everything it does well👍👍 Keep up the great vids, Wahoo👍👍
Thank you for this note. I love the Honda Shadow and feel it's one of the great motorcycles out there. Glad your back on two wheels again! Where about are you located? Wahoo!
Okay, just took a look at your channel. Australia! I've got to get myself down that way somehow!
Thank you for such a informative video

No problem 👍
My 2001 has over 160K. You have a long way to go with yours Routine maintenance and a few electrical glitches were all I faced until last week.
I think you got the right one, I've owned a DL650.but sold and bought my ACE Tour back, DL650 a great ride 65 mpg but to light on the interstate
She was a great bike!
I 've got a 01 sabre.50k and I love it more every year....I bought very cheap and in the process have sold all of my other bikes....2 hds a suzi Volusia witch was nice.I love the honda smoothness and reliability .it was made in marysville ohio and at 63 it will be one of my last bikes.I rewired and mounted turn signals in the headlite ad in rear fender....it tightend up the look big time....I'm send a pic....I bought the bike for 600 bucs.

I had a verses and loved it. Just rode a Himalayan over 640 mi in one day and 570 just the other day. Light is good 🙂
Currently in the process of buying a 96 honda shadow 1100 Desperado. One test ride and i was set on buying it.
These are wonderful motorcycles. And that engine they come with is bullet proof. Wahoo!
I just picked up a 1997 shadow 1100 with crash bars n all kinds of extra goodies. Vance n Hines pipes
Paid 1450$ 35k miles
I come from a 2000 Suzuki savage 650.
This coming Monday I’m listing the Suzuki for sale
So far I love the Honda!
Don’t know if the speedometer is off on the Honda. But it sure seems to climb the MPH real fast
Had it up to 108 on the test ride
Also.
Enjoy!
@@forgottenmotorcycles
I had a suspicion that 70mph didn’t really “feel” like 70mph
I think this Honda shadow will be the perfect commuter bike.
I put 1500 miles on the Suzuki in 2 weeks time
In November I change jobs and my pay rate gets tripled
I really want to get a Honda vtx 1800. Or something real close to it
Also very fond of the Honda st1100 and st1300.
I have reached 22,300 roughly on my honda shadow. I bought it new, and its a bit worn now becasue i ride it hard and dont cover it, but i am meticulous about oil changes and required maintenance. I love this bike. Shes a 2015
Very nice!
Absolutely sir 💯
I think you would really like a kawasaki vulcan 900. I had one that i put a taller rear sprocket on and it did everything. You said you wanted. Freeway speeds no problem and I'm 240lbs. Amazing range with a 5gallon plus tank, amazing fuel economy. Comfortable for all day riding. But no, it also did not do 110mph. But man it did everything well! And it's fuel injected.
I actually looked to buy a Vulcan when looking for a cruiser. Kawasaki makes a great one. Didn't know it had that great 5 gallon tank. Wahoo!
Also. Another top option for speed price ect. Is a Suzuki intruder 1500. Yamaha vstar also. I find cheaply
@@forgottenmotorcycles thanks for sharing your experience. Now I get an idea of when I should start to look for gas stations.
Did you end up getting it
@@MrAlex305fl Yes! It is a solid good bike!
Only 5,880 miles on it. All chrome parts are shiny, stock pipes already sound very good to me. Really love it.

One beautiful and reliable motorcycle. Loved everything about the Spirit. Wahoo!
Thanks. Wahoo!
Designed to shed water that way to eliminate hydroplane and side slip
60k you're just breaking that bike in, i totally agree with you on the shadow 1100 being the Toyota corolla of motorcycles, never had any issues with mine at 35k just replaced the diaphragms in both carbs because they had slight tears in them and also put a stage 1 dynojet kit with some slip ons to give her some more juice 👍 don't ever get rid of that shadow 1100 it's an excellent bike
Love the bike. It just keeps on going and going and going... How many miles do you have on yours? Plan on keeping this one until its end. Wahoo!

Hey Fuzzy,
Great seeing you put on the miles.

Sounds like you've got a nice motorcycle. Honda makes great motorcycles.
It’s fun, the previous owner didn’t ride it much, and his wife told me he didn’t enjoy it. In the 6 months of having it, I’ve put 1500 mi on it, when it’s been warm enough for me to ride. There’s something about riding a bike that’s fun and enjoyable.

Good luck!
@@forgottenmotorcycles thank you very much for your reply! 🙏🏽
Question, where did you get the mirror extensions? I would love to do the same with my mirrors. Thanks much.
I got these from Amazon. Baxtercycle.com should have them too. Wahoo!
Can i tall into your experience? What is in your opinion the best all rounder bike you have owned? And where does the spirit rank?
Hey Fuzzy, remind me what year is your Shadow? Loved the 60,000 mile video!
