Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau, described Britain’s longest-reigning monarch as 'thoughtful, wise, curious, helpful, funny and so much more'

      Dear Guardian News.
This tribute u put together is very racist. U captioned it as World Leaders. Why haven't you captured the video tribute of at least one African President? Are we not qualified to be seen as World leaders? Is it only Japan and the European countries and Australia that are qualified to be called World leaders? We Africans and people of African descent make a fair number of territories which were once under the Queen in the Commonwealth. If you are doing this to us, it is totally bad and racist.

I’ve always been a Republican, but I’ve never had a word of complaint for the Queen herself. I didn’t expect to feel as saddened as I am. The outpouring of genuine grief across the world reveals what a tremendously unifying presence she has been not only in our national life, but on the world stage. At a time when it feels as though new rifts and divisions keep opening to pull us apart, that is something I appreciate now with an acute sense of poignancy. Perhaps she was the most widely loved person in the world. Certainly she was a monumental figure, whose impact has been widely felt. I think we all feel that a great link to the past and a shared, positive, and constant presence in our lives has been lost.

She gave her life truly to service and she never did self promotion or publicity. The global outpouring of love and grief shows what an extraordinary legacy she has. I cannot think of anyone else so loved universally who would be remembered in this way.

I’m not a fan of the monarchy as an institution but I still can’t help but feel saddened by the death of HM the Queen. I loved her devotion to the nation and her apolitical nature, it’s everything you could dream for in a head of state. Now is the time to stand behind King Charles III as our new sovereign.

In a small country, at the farthest edge of the commonwealth, as a man who never met or knew anyone who had met her, even I can recognize that a great lady has passed and despite my eternal optimism, I feel that world is poorer for it being so. This is truly a momentous occasion and not one that I will quickly forget. Lest we forget Elizabeth the Great, the Queen of the people.
