Carlos Alejandro Alvarenga, yeah, I assumed that once I saw this video. He didn’t have glasses in his headshot so I wouldn’t have guessed he wore glasses. I know it’s probably so the picture looked better (if this is offensive I don’t mean it to be, I wear glasses myself)

*slow clap* you know his performance was impressive when it seemed like they literally plucked some high school kid with high anxiety from a busy hallway headin' to one of his classes to sing this song. one of the most raw and real performances i've ever seen.
Tanzanite Productions, that’s because they actually did do just that. I was at the auditions for these roles at the international thespian conference of 2018, in Lincoln Nebraska. That is a festival for high schoolers enrolled in theater around the world. There were auditions for the touring company of DEH during one of the days this festival went on. It was an honor to audition for this role.

Ben Ross was originally an understudy for the 3 young male roles in DEH before being cast as Evan for the tour.
And for the original comment, this performance is wonderful and it's not even his full acting, just his facial expressions (like no tics, habits, etc) and it's already this amazing

I saw his performance in Denver. He was INCREDIBLE. Words Fail was amazing, and so was everything else, he truely was made for Evan Hansen.

I don’t know why, but this version of Evan just really hit me as how I’ve always envisioned him, like the true representation of that character. I love Ben Platt’s version of Evan, and everything he did with the production, but genuine vulnerability and unsureness in Ben Levi Ross’s version really struck a chord with me. I dunno , just my opinion
Ben Platt looks like he was probably really popular in High School lol. I have no clue where he went to High School though and every area has a different idea of 'coolness' lmao. Still, I think that this guy fits what I always imagined Evan looked like before I actually saw Ben Platt...

He's so different than Ben and others. Very unique and believable almost a Michael Cera kind of vibe. Love it. Also he is IN the moment. Very truthful performance

WOW. He totally encapsulates Evan's desperation and frustration with his world. Evan's choices in this story are even that more believable/real because of Levi's take.

It works though. Ive always pictured Evan as a more sensitive, gentle soul than how Platt portrays him. Not that his portrayal is bad, but I feel like being someone who has pretty bad anxiety, id consider myself a little more timid and afraid to show a ton of emotion.

Gray K Though I disagree, I think this is a very fair and rational take. For me, the non-diegetic nature of the music lets me be more comfortable with Platt’s signing. But you’re right, this does in ways feel closer to character.

I like his Evan. More like how I always imagine Evan to be. More insecure, while the other Ben's Evan is more like a confident but frustrated kid. Not that Ben Platt didn't do an amazing job as Evan.
Ben platt I personally think did the best in all the songs but this kid was exactly how I personally pictured Evan to look. I mean Ben platt killed his acting and made himself play the part well but Ben Ross is exactly what I pictured as Evan

I think Ben Platt was a really good actor who did a really good job acting as a shy, anxious teen.
But when you watch this guy, he's not just acting as a shy, anxious teen. It's like he turned into Evan Hansen.
Also, it's probably bad how much I'm in love with Ben Levi Ross right now.
I like his take. I've seen Ben Platt 3 times, MLB once, Noah Galvin once, Stephen Christopher Anthony once, and Taylor Trensch once. All brought something unique to the table and gave memorable performances. The casting director for this show is doing an incredible job. Must add that I just caught Andrew Barthfeldman in January and am seeing him again in May. Wow my statement on the casting director still stands.

I love everything about this. Ben Levi Ross is a more convincing actor than Platt, and I love how soft and sort of delicate he is. He feels vulnerable and broken, and I'm so here for it.
Exactly! And on stage he brings so much more to the role, with little nervous ticks and facial expressions and the way he feeds off of the other actors' energies

Ok I just saw him as Evan in the tour and I have to say that he is a great Evan. No hate on Ben P or Taylor but I think he’s the best Evan.
While Ben had the exact emotions and perfection of it, this guy realistically nails the realness and emotions that embody Evan. He’s got this spark that’s hard to explain that just has an impact on you.
I just gotta say I saw Ben Levi Ross live.....and my jaw was to the floor. we caught his last show on the tour and my god. hes even more incredible in person. His voice literally just falls out of his mouth and he had me and my friend in tears. I dont know how the hell he was an understudy at first. But he sure made up for it cause he played the HELL out of this role. I would have saw him about 50 more times if i could have.

Wow! The nuances in his performances are beautiful, it's so subtle and introverted but I can see it translating to a large space. Definitely my personal favourite Evan thus far.

I saw him last night in Los Angeles and was blown away. And after doing some research, he went to my high school???? Omg. I don't think I've ever seen a better actor/singer ever, and I've been seeing musicals and operas for the past 20 years. Such a physically demanding performance - he was like clenched up the entire time... how he can shrink down inside himself and sing so beautifully is truly amazing. Now of course I want to see him again.

spectacular voice i can definitely picture him as evan, really showed a lot of talent towards the end and more emotion. i wish we could’ve gotten to see more of a performance and more of his nervous tics but i understand he doesn’t really have the space, wish i could see this on tour!!!

KelilaBennet you are soooo lucky!!! when i first got into musicals it was the movie ones or old broadway ones that i was like “oh i wish i could’ve been back during that time to go see it” but since I’ve gotten into the current shows it’s pure torture knowing I’m going to miss my chance because I’m poor lol
I just got home from seeing him so of course I needed more videos of his voice! You have to keep an eye out for tickets! I get mine around $40 for most shows and I got super lucky with a lottery win for DEH to see him twice!
KelilaBennet I’ve heard so much about the lottery’s my problem is distance I’m not really that close to new york nor to really any of the tour stops, currently saving though :))
ben platt has a way of singing out his emotions in such a beautiful way. he channels his anxious energy outward, and ben levi ross is the opposite, he puts it somewhat under the surface and comes out at times. i also like this version, it feels like his anxiety is more ingrained.
everyone's mental state is different and how they portray it may be different.

I saw this absolute GOD perform as Evan in San Francisco. My mom absolutely adored his performance and the best part was that we got stage door (yes!!) at the end. There were a hundred people clumped up to get signatures, and he made sure that even those at the very back (like me) got some. Amazing show!!

I saw him February 7th, 2019. Mind blown! One of my favorite parts was the scene where he gives the speech. Ross literally curls up on the ground and sobs for a few minutes when he drops the note cards before You Will Be Found and it's freaking amazing.

I saw DEH thrice during it’s stop in LA for it’s first national tour. Ben Levi Ross absolutely blew me away. He was so perfect for the role. Perfectly nerdy, awkward, and nervous. If there’s Tonys for touring casts, he deserves a nod.

I saw him a few days ago and he was AMAZING. I can't describe how good he was, every note he hit Perfectly 💕. He was the perfect Evan, I loved the show and every other cast member. He’s perfect to play Evan. He looks so awkward and honestly, exactly how I imagined Evan to look (not to mention his vocals are amazing).
I saw him about a month ago in LA and lets just say that words fail to describe how amazing Ben *frickin* Ross is. It’s amazing to here the songs that you blast in the car or in the shower in person. It was so surreal and amazing and incredible. He was absolutely perfect he was shy and nervous but at the same time confident. This lived up to everything I expected and probably did even better. I’m proud to say that this show, the show that got me into broadway in the first place, is my first show ever. It’s a reminder that everyone’s important and we all belong and that no matter what we won’t be waving through a window, but we will actually make a sound. Thank you Dear Evan Hansen for reminding me of that

The glasses add to the character very well. I mean he has social anxiety disorder and having nerd glasses can enhance that image.
I actually have autism but do not wear prescription glasses. But I can relate to Evan a little. And I've had suicide thoughts in high school most of the time were not intentional
