I'm learning this song with my vocal coach and Jesus Christ, i can sing this song easily until i get to "Is anybody waving?..." in the end, this part is soooooo hard!
Ben Platt was the only Evan who performed all 8 shows a week, and after the Tonys he dropped down to 6 shows a week and Evans who've succeeded him have done 5-6 shows a week, with an Alternate performing the remaining shows.
@@eliasjohnson9206 I do musical theatre professionally, so I know what you mean. But my point wasn't about muscle memory. If someone's technique is flawed, it can lead to vocal damage overtime. Ben Platt, the original Evan has a beautiful voice but he has some issues in technique which led to him getting TWO VOCAL HEMORRHAGES during DEH.
Wow! I literally just came across your channel because I’ve been struggling to hit that last ‘WAVING WAVING OH OH’ part. And the nasality as well as not changing the vowel sound (especially) helped me hit it first try 🙌🏽! Thank you so much
I’ve learned to sing this song by simply listening to it in one ear over and over and correcting where I can, and when I can’t find something, then I ask my friends, who love this song, for advice. Worked pretty good for me. But you’re also a good help. Thank you
I can hit those vocal cracks intentionally, it kinda just takes practice. There's no one way to accomplish it other than try to make your voice purposely crack from chest to falsetto voice
It happened naturally to me when I kept singing with technique consistently (always warming up) and singing along to his songs. It’s a really naturally occurring thing so if you’ve tired your voice out with a lot of belting and shouty singing with not necessarily great technique then it isn’t gonna happen. I add that because I speak from experience and it took ages to make a breakthrough after coming out of training where I was forcing my voice to do things it wasn’t ready to yet for assessments.
@@Spikey100000 Yes exactly! Two years later and I can actually do it pretty easily now but not from specifically training it or focusing on it. It just naturally started happening as I focused on general technique
I have been learning this song for months now and Really struggle with the last part, Now our Coach given me this song for understudy and Now I came across this video and it really helps bro. Thank You! I have been having problems with support, I tend to lose my support everytime. Hahaha
@@ChristopherDavidMitchell it did helped me a lot actually, what I was only have in mind was that I needed it to be kinda nasal so it wouldnt be that much of straining, The vowel thing helped me be more comfortable.
hi my name is wayne remington and i just have to put it into the universe that i will play evan one day. i’ve been stretching my range and can finally hit the “waving” and oh oh” at the end without fail because of this video! thank you :)
Hey so.. I really want to hit that ‘Waving’ part of the song.. I want to belt it but I’m really finding it difficult to sing that high.. to give you some background info, I’m kinda going through puberty so my voice is going through some changes... Any tips you might offer?
Unstable Energy hey... well if you are going through puberty then your voice is going through so many changes. And you may have to just be patient until it settles a bit more. I would get with a coach you trust to help you hit those high notes especially through these times where your voice is changing a lot. Best of luck
@@ChristopherDavidMitchell a bariTONE... I'll walk myself out. I think I should be able to do this well I just have to sing it slightly lower and my falsetto transitions aren't as smooth because it's going from a low range to a high range as compared to a high range to a higher range
Darrell Button well it’s not really a bass baritone song. It’s a tenor song for sure (or high baritone) so you could sing the notes.. but it would sound different. If you’re a true bass/baritone I would focus mainly on songs particular for your voice type
I’m an upcoming musical theatre student, and I’ve been a baritone for the larger part of the last 4 years. I can belt A4s, but I have trouble belting the A#s with the last verse. I have a vocal coach but he hasn’t really tapped into my high belts yet. I love this song and would love to sing it, any tips on how to strengthen my belt in that range?
I'm a bari and can hit most of the notes in the song with ease, however, when the final chorus comes after the modulation, I struggle with the last few "waving's" at the end, any advice?
I’m hoping you respond to this cause I need help here I’m mid teenage years singing this song. I’m meant to be performing this in a DeH medley in like 2 months and I’ve got most of it down (I think) (I hope) but I literally can’t reach the high note for some reason. Before training to reach it it was somewhat in my grasp but now I just can’t hit the note. People don’t seem to understand when I’m complaining about it and say I should use my head voice for the high note, even my singing teacher, but doing that backtracks on the progression of the chorus and also doesn’t carry the power that note hits in chest voice. It’s really frustrating and I need a bit of help here please? Also if I could be able to send you a bit of my rendition that would be great, thanks Chris
Archie Beach just pulling chest voice isn’t right. But head voice - you’re correct will be too light. You just need to train all those middle gears in between chest and falsetto/head voice. It can be done. Just with correct training and time 😀
Christopher David Mitchell THAT’S WHAT THAT FEELING IS Sorry, I’m used to singing there but I didn’t know how to call it. My Aspergers required for a much more informal education in singing so I’m just inept with terms honestly. I counted it as part of my chest voice honestly. It’s so unusual, the feeling. I’ve been singing for 8 years at the moment and I don’t feel like I’m making much progress honestly except randomly extending my range back upwards
Hi I’m trying to learn this song and I’ve been going through your video to see how I can improve my technique for this song. I’m currently able to hit the A4 waving part, but at the very end of the song the Bb4 waving part I’m not able to sustain. I can definitely reach that note since I’m able to sing is anybody waving (however not very easily). My voice tends to break/crack a lot when I’m doing the final wavings and the whoa bit at the end. I was wondering how I can prevent my voice from breaking at these areas and hopefully make these parts easier to sing. My guess is that because I know the high notes are coming, I end up getting really loud all of a sudden/gasping for air and so the notes aren’t as pronounced.
It’s a Bb, which is really high, do not be surprised if your voice cracks because that is very frickin high, also breathe from your diaphragm, try replacing the syllables “wa-ven” with “wa-ving”, warm up before you sing the song, also get a voice teacher they help a lot and can point out what you’re doing wrong
@@observeranimationstudios1040 no problem, warming up before you sing helps alot, I try to warm up atleast twice, once in the morning then another in the afternoon or the evening then I sing, also make sure to drink water before and after you sing
I’ve been singing this song for a while but I feel trapped in the falsetto aspect of “Waving”. I can’t seem to get the belt. For background, I am a Tenor but suffer with a relatively unimpressive chest range and an extensive head voice range. It could just be that my voice can’t belt that high but I was curious if you had any tips that I could try. Just to clarify, I can sing the song, but large parts of it can only really be sung in falsetto, it’s a supported falsetto so it’s not an issue but I’ve always wanted to get the belt lol
@@ChristopherDavidMitchell omg u replied! anyways i kinda have an alto register lol it's a bit too low for my falsetto BUT this video is really educative and amazing
I'm watching this at nearly 1am, so I'm gonna try it when I'm alone in the middle of the day tomorrow instead of when people are tryna sleep. My range is super inconsistent though. I'm almost 19, but my voice sounds like a teenager's rather than a man's still. Some days, I can hit lower bass notes really well and some days I can hit higher tenor notes really well. So, we'll see 😳
