- Hi Ramily! Hope this video helps relieve any intimidation on this install. I went in a complete novice but with Matt’s help he guided me through my install.
Reach out to Matt for the new wiring harness you’ll need to run your two antennas and RF Hub / matt.dougherty.526
Parts used:
1 Mopar Ignition switch
1 Hub Receiver
2 passive entry antennas
2 Keyfobs
1 bluetooth OBD reader/programmer
Alfaobd program www.alfaobd.com
I personally have a PKE installed on my truck that automatically unlocks my doors as I approach the vehicle and locks when I walk away. I’ve had it over a year and have been very happy with it. You don’t need it to make the push button start to function its just nice to never have to take your keys out of your pocket when driving your truck. The PKE I use is a Directed 2102T. I had that installed by a car alarm installer.

I found this video and got super excited. I was bummed at first that I did not have a push start button. I was able to order most parts on eBay but had to get the hub from a dealer that shipped it to me. Apparently there is currently a shortage on some parts. The custom harness came soon after. This was my first experience with AlfaOBD and this video made this a cake job! Only issue I had was my tps got upset but resolved itself once I drove around for about 10-15 mins! Highly recommend this video!

I notice my ram looks exactly as yours all the same except mine has no console but all looks exactly. I'm not happy with the fob at all want a push button.

For clarification, do you program the new key fobs before the install or after the install?
I know my other car won’t go into accessory mode if the key fob isn’t in the car, so I’m wondering if the same thing would happen here if the key fob isn’t programmed first.

It’s a odd year being it’s the first year of the 4th Gen ,the 2011 are different then the 2013 are different , I have want to add the push to start for awhile , I must have watched this video 5 time I have even found you on a Ram forum helping guys out , if you know I would appreciate it ,

Nice Work! the first time I watch this I thought that's a lot, but I'm pretty sure I can do this. I bought a salvaged Ram 2500. It has auto door locks but I did not receive a door lock fob. can I still use this method or do I need to go to a locksmith or even worse the dealer?

What if my truck already have remote start from factory? Any step could I skip?
I already have pushbutton start on my 2015 1500 Laramie. The pushbutton failed and I bought a new one. I have been told that I can not install it myself as it will have to be initialized to my truck to make it work.
Can I initialize it myself?

It’ll probably just require the programming of new keys using AlphaOBD
If you’re replacing the actual push button then there is no programming required at all, it is plug and play. If you’re replacing the rf hub then yes programming is required and new fobs are needed.

Yes but you will probably need the aftermarket remote start reprogrammed afterwards.
Is that part that's next to your amp My truck is shorted caused other problems rooms nobody can program it the winn module It end up burning out my BCM is there anything I can do to find out what else is Burnt out And what to do to program it
That would be outside my wheelhouse. I’d throw that question on a Ram forum.

I went in never doing one of these installs either. I assure you if I did it anyone can.
Great instructional video,but the key fobs link from ebay is not active. Let me know what key fobs you got or if you have a good link for the key fobs.
You could really go with any fob that has high customer review ratings that are compatible. I found these on Amazon by doing a search for my 2013 Ram 1500.

I just purchase a 2016 ram 2500 slt model with the cummins . I would like to know if this would work for my truck .right now it doesn't have a push start button and it doesn't have the remote start either . will doing what you did in the will let me have the push start and remote start option in my truck ? also this question will be for Matt im thinking of swapping the column shift to floor shifter would you be able to provide the necessary harness to do that too ?

Asin transmission or automatic? If it’s an auto you can do both push button and remote start (separate harnesses for each). If it’s manual, you can still do push button but your only option for remote start would be an aftermarket solution. Unfortunately I won’t be much help to you regarding your shifter question.

How much would it cost to have you install this, my current key almost got me killed because it's gotten so finicky, I live in the Cibolo area north of San Antonio

Noticed you also have those 12 inch Android units as well. How do you like it? Does it work with the USB hub in the centre arm rest console?
Didn’t buy a kit I purchased each part individually. I was finding the kits online were almost $900 when you can order separately for $250-300 for everything. In regards to the stereo, I purchased that from the Phoenix website and it’s been great. I hear mixed reviews from others. It does still allow me to use the USB in the center console.

Anyone completely unable to connect to this Veepeak OBD?? Computer doesn’t see it. Went out and bought a tablet with android, that doesn’t see it. iPhone see it but says it can’t connect to it ( wouldn’t work anyways with alpha obd).

Mopar (82215050AB), is that the proper kit?just not utilize the keys with the kit. Since I’ll be installing the keyless system.
If you get your push start harness through me I can help you with remote start as well. That depend on what wiring you already have but you would also need a $40 hood latch. Can do it a lot cheaper than buying the Mopar kit.

@Hydro Blue Ram Question for ya, I got a 2018-2500-6.7-g56. I have a aftermarket remote start wired in to work with it being a 6spd, i have the clutch safety switch looped off. Can swap over to the push button start and my remote start still work? And if you are still making harnesses what would the cost be for one? Thanks!

My truck already had remote start. This video goes over the conversion from the key you have to turn to a push button. You can add also add the passive entry door handles but I didn’t need that for my purposes. Only wanted to add push button start.
@@texasram6230 Passive entry door handles are overrated in my opinion anyways. Plus a lot of work to pull doors apart. I'm just looking for push button, since my key switch is staring to act up. I've saved your video for spring when I may tackle it. Thanks.

Do you think this could work on a manual lock and manual window truck? I am looking to add power locks and windows later but this might be easier to start off with. I know the unlock/lock part wont work lol but the push button start is what i am after.
Yes it can be done but obviously you know you’d need a key to get in and out of the truck.
What is interesting is the ignition switch part number says it is compatible with 2013 to 2022 1500's. The red "TRX" switch (part # 68453905AA) says it is compatible with 2019 to 2022. I wonder if it would work? I just ordered it for $31 so if it doesn't and I can't return it, it's not that bad, I'll update if it works.

It works but doesn’t light up to let you know when you are in ACC or RUN mode and you’ll have to fabricate a way to mount it because it doesn’t mount the same way.
@@texasram6230 so in the end the other comment was right and it doesn't light up but it does turn the truck on. But with a Dremel, sandpaper & super glue I was able to get everything working and looking stock.

For that pke system you use , do you have to use their additional fob or can you program your original fob?
I’ve always used their fob and never tried to program it into my Ram fob. If you try it let me know if it worked for you 😃

Started the change and I'm stuck on that once I make all the changes. I go to hit the push start, nothing happens. So I cant program the keys. I'm an impasse. Any suggestion?
Did you get your RFH code to your Ram from the beginning of the video?
@@texasram6230 me and Matt figured it out. It gave me a bad pin. Had to install my bypass to get the right pin. 2018 are a pain!! But still wouldn't get rid of it. 🤣🤣

Quick question, When I go to buy the receiver it says it is not combatable with my truck. Is that just because my truck currently doesn't have a push button?
Mopar does make specific hubs for certain years but they are compatible with all 2013+ 4th gens. If you have a newer ram 2017+ you would just wanna stay away from older hubs as they would also require an external antenna that your truck wouldn’t have (hubs for the newer rams have internal antennas so the external one isn’t required and not installed in the newer rams).
I have a 2015 Eco Diesel. So I would be hood ordering the one that is on this list?
@@johncahill8740 any hub would work for you since you should be setup to run a hub with an external antenna. So you could technically use one that requires the external antenna or one that has an internal one built in. As long as it is a push button start hub you should be fine.
What happens if you key batter dies does it have somewhere else to turn it on

Yes, newer hubs will work as long as they are 4th gen hubs.

Ok. I am doing the installation right now. I copy the code from the hold hub. I need to reprogram the new hub with this code rto be able to programming the new keyfob right? How I do this?
I’m not sure what you mean? This was my first time installing push button start myself, by no means do I consider myself an expert. The only code I needed was the one to program the keys at the end.
You need to program a fob before you can run the reset/replace RF Hub function with Alfaobd which will then write your VIN to the new hub.
So if your truck already has remote start capabilities there’s no need to buy another hub? All I will be doing is adding push button start and keyless entry doors handles
Even though my truck had remote start from the factory the hub that came with it did not have the outputs for the RF antennas

@@keydrumsmith8720 the hubs are pretty much backwards and forwards compatible. I don’t recommend you put your truck info into the mopar sites when you look up the parts. I always recommend the newer hubs because they come with an internal antenna where as the older ones require an external antenna which costs more money.

Would this kit work on a 2014 ram 1500? Seems to be the same anatomy all the way through. I know the main differences with the rams from 2013-2018 is just the computer, most of them are built the same.
Yes it will, works on all 2013+ 4th gens.

Awesome video, very helpful and makes this project look like one most folks can do on a saturday morning. It looks like the hubs that are in the newer trucks may support things. Ive got a 2017 Long horn, have the remote start but really want to add this push to start. Is there any way to tell if my hub can support this without having to buy another? Then it would just be fobs and button. Antennnas if needed but looks like Matt said newer hubs have built-in antennas. Appreciate the content.
I would check with the part number to the hub since it’s a mopar replacement and check with a dealership tech to see if they match…if so I wouldn’t see why it couldn’t be used. You could order it, just in case, and if yours works return it 👍🏼

@@Mikeityourself if your asking if your current hub will work for push start, no it will not. Hubs only work for one or the other. If you have a turn key truck, it has a turn key hub. If you have a push button truck, then it has a push button hub.

After installing the antenna under my steering column it’s worked perfectly. I’ve been really happy with this easy upgrade.

How long is the antenna cable?
It’s an adequate length…but you’d have to reach out to Mark for exact length. I had no issues running it wherever I decided to place the antennas.

It does but truck needs to be 2013+.

I don’t do it professionally but after an audio place on O’Connor quoted me $800 for the install I thought to myself someone needs to make a video of this install. It’s very straight forward with Matt’s wiring harness. I can give you the phone number to the audio install place but it’s seriously not worth $800.

I have an after market remote start that I have to hit the lock button three times to start my truck. Will I still be able to use that if I install this? I would like to keep it because it is connected to my phone and I use Drone Mobile app to start and remotely unlock my truck.
From what I’ve heard it may need to be reprogrammed after you upgrade to push button start.
