This is an awesome video and extremely helpful! I have the dash bezel trimmed and the wiring is all done except for reverse, but I have the wire run, just waiting on the T splice. Everything turned and and all functions work...thanks for the reverse wire tip! Really saved time.
Great video, my radio's screwing up, need to put in an aftermarket, this video will help. I like how you do a double din but still keep the cubby below it.
For the record, that dash bezel had been removed before. Otherwise, you have to remove the cupholder 1st (4-8mm screws under the rubber), then 2 (8mm) screws to pull the trim forward of the cupholder. Then, a couple 8mm screws under the radio section (above the piece just removed), then 2 phillips screws facing upward that retain the radio bezel assembly off.. When you removed your bezel in the video, you can clearly see the two bottom tabs where these phillips screws should have went through.
Geriatric Ginger yes my 6spd cummins was a screwed together nightmare. I couldn't find a video for my interior pkg and it was fun finding the hidden screws
Great video! Very helpful, about to do this on my 2008 RAM this weekend if everything comes in and this is giving me confidence. FYI ordering a double din dash face replacement so hopefully should go together nicely. Thanks for putting this together!!
I have a 2007 ram 1500 and when i went from stock radio with the same style dash as the 2500, i have found out they in fact do make a double din dash kit for that style of dash. With a little modification to the dash you will not have the half circles in the dash. I installed the same Kenwood as in this video
Great video! I had no idea about the wiring so thank you for all your below comments. I will be extremely happy if I can get a double din radio looking like factory while still having that storage compartment under!!
OMG, you just saved my butt thank you. Im trying to get a radio installed on a 2008 Ram 1500 and the universal harness does not match up with the power so I was having a hard time finding it. now I know where to hook up power to. ;)
Bri, have you ever seen or performed an install for bypassing the infinity system on a 2005 Dodge 2500? Just trying to figure out the best way of getting to it.
why would you tap on the cigarette lighter switched wire to power the unit up? isn't the harness you used connects to the factory turn on wire, that should already be existing in the stock connector? how does the stock radio turn on then?
Yes, that is a good question. On that truck is does not have a switched wire at the radio that is (+power) it uses a negative switching system. (Switched +power is not in the existing factory connector) Dumb I know, Chrysler does this on many newer vehicles.
Do It Yourself Bri is this why when I plug my unit it automatically powers up? I'm baffled I've checked and double checked my power and as soon as I plug it powers no key... I'm so lost and about to lose faith in this install. Thanks for a reply
Do It Yourself Bri is this why when I plug my unit it automatically powers up? I'm baffled I've checked and double checked my power and as soon as I plug it powers no key... I'm so lost and about to lose faith in this install. Thanks for a reply
The trucks use a can-bus system. They all use it now. Use an interface adapter. I have a 2007 truck with the infinity system, and bought two interface modules from PAC, and it works perfectly.
This video has a lot of good information. Question: If I'm smart enough to not drive while watching a dvd will I need to attach the parking brake wire?
where did you get the side pieces for the volume and tune buttons. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find them. I'm wanting to install an aftermarket radio in my 2006 mega cab but need the parts
Good job, but aren't you supposed to disconnect the negative battery cables before doing any wiring, in order to prevent a possible short? I just bought a very similar Kenwood double DIN unit to install in my 2006 Ram 2500 (with the Infinity system), and I really appreciated your tips. I bought the unit and the accessories from Crutchfield, and they recommended the Metra 95-6528B mounting kit, which was $20, and came with the faceplate/bezel, and the mounting brackets that fit the truck and radio; I think this is a bargain for not having to fabricate brackets and to make it look like a factory installation. I haven't mounted it yet, but I think I will lose all or part of the pocket under the radio, but I can live with that. I'll probably add some sort of storage area on the current cupholders.
Hi very helpfull video but you dont show after finding the 12v where does it connect to ?? Im installing one and wondering where to connect the 12v on the main radio harness!! Thanks
I know this was 10 years ago but wouldn’t you not need the interface cable adapter on the manual version that only has cruise control functions on the wheel and no audio functions?
This info could be correct..... However I'm not 100% sure...Would need to have your truck here to verify.. LF Speaker +: Dark Green/Yellow LF Speaker -: Dark Green/Light Blue RF Speaker +: Gray/yellow RF Speaker -: Gray/Light Blue
When u hooked into the lighter how did u hook it up I used the red and yellow wire off of the deck and hooked into the lighter but it still has no memory
Yellow wire is constant has to be hooked up in the harness to keep memory. Only the red acc wire coming from the radio has to be hooked up to the cigarette lighter
Thanks for the great video it answers a ton of my questions. One question is whether this unit required a vss feed or maybe it was not a GPS unit. If it did require that vss feed where did you connect up to that? I have the same vehicle 08 Dodge ram 1500 with base radio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Did you run the red or yellow wire to the cigarette wire.... Also what color wire did you run to the parking brake I'm about to install one in my truck thank you for the detailed video helped me a ton!
The red wire is ignition on most aftermarket radios, and I ran it to the cigarette/12volt output. The yellow is constant battery power, which is in the factory radio harness. Sorry I cant remember the wire color on the parking brake, however its the only wire on the parking brake assy, its in a black connector on the very top.
+Do It Yourself Bri I do not understand why do you need to tap into the cig lighter. Isn't the factory radio has a switched power? Factory radio turns on when you switch the key on. Thus wouldn't that be part on the harness on the chassis side? Could you please explain. Thank you.
Good Question.. And the answer is there is not a switched power at the radio (in a regular 12 volt form) the radio is switched off and on with a low voltage data line that does not have the ability to turn an aftermarket radio on and off... That is why you must install a radio replacement interface and or install the radio like I did running a wire to a switched source to turn the aftermarket radio on and off.
I have a question I’m having problems with my install where the unit dose not power on but you said that it looks for a signal and you taped into the cigarette lighter so what wire do you hook up on the radio said?
Hi I just did my double din stereo step by step like u did in my dodge and it really great but the only thing I didn't get is how did you make the metal brackets? Thanks a lot
Gabriel Jimenez I went to Lowes and found small strips of metal in the plumbing section. (I Think) Then cut them to size and also made the bends to make it fit.
Thanks for the great install video. My 2008 ram has no steering controls besides cruise control. No navigation radio or infinity speaker system (3 dash speakers hikes in fash don't have speakers). I believe I can do the same I stall but what about the 2nd small harness right next to big harness in back of factory radio? I couldnt figure out what to do with it? Did yours have that too? Thanks for the help!
Hey Bri! I have a Dual XDVD210BT that I'm trying to put in my 08 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. I have the wiring harness all hooked up. It won't turn on, Itll make a noise as if powering up when I plug it in, but won't turn on. Only things that aren't hooked up yet are the 3 steering wheel wires, parking break, and amp. I'm not sure what the problem is so wanted to see if you might know! Thanks
Norman John It sounds like a short in one of the speaker wires? Or not getting the correct power on one of the wires, It really is just to hard to point you in a direction without taking a look at things myself. Use a test light and or test meter on both power wires and check for a good ground, if all is good try disconnecting one speaker at a time if you get sound after you disconnect that one than that one may have a short. Also you may have a bad radio? I would recommenced a bench test on the radio also.
Norman John thanks! i getting ready to upgrade my radio. cool video. i am a master tech and make diy slide shows for my fb page. you video is very detailed!
For the DVD all you have to do is ground that parking brake wire, Is easier than finding the parking brake wire and will allow you to watch the dvds any time.
hello so I am wondering if anyone knows where/how i can get a flat piece of plastic that is on the bottom pocket of the center dash part he is holding at the 5:24 minute part of video. I am doing an install of a Pioneer 4200 nex and I would like to install 2 flush mount attatchments to that area. (a flush mount usb/hdmi port and a flush mount usb/aux port). Thanks for any help guys/gals.
Did this truck have the infinity sound system? My 2008 2500 has infinity system and the wiring harness you showed will not work .. didn't feel like buying the 109$ harness !
The install looks great bud! I just bought and 08 with the same factory radio and I'm looking to do exactly what you did. I just have 1 question. Do those black inserts from the dash kit sit flush with the bezel? Because I was gonna plastidip where it's silver on the bezel.
crazycracker45acp 6.5 or 7 will work just fine (does not matter) They don't sit perfectly flush, some people bondo and paint the bezel to give it more of a factory look.
forgot to ask about the Chrysler wire harness for the steering wheel controls, and you mentioned the back up camera for this install, couldn't find it, can you include the link. I am assuming that it is for this same radio. Thanks
DYI Bri...Thanks for this video. I am doing the same thing with an 06 RAM Mega with a NON Infinity Stock CD player. 4 speakers...and no steering wheel controls. Can I use the CR02b or CR04b wiring harness and be ok? I don't see me gaining anything with the CANBUS modules...do I need those for my new Pioneer AVH 3600BHS to function correctly? Everybody seems to tell me that I need it but I saw you just use the $10 harness and it worked. Any advice would be appreciated. I will pull switched power from the pink/yellow strip wire on the left cig outlet. Thanks Again!
I have an 08 dodge ram 2500 Laramie with the infinity system in it, 6 disc Mopar radio. I’m putting in a pioneer double din and need to find the “amp on” wire on the vehicle side of the wiring harness. The wiring harness I purchased for this year model truck has the blue and white wire running to an empty slot. I know this video is six years old but any help would be appreciated greatly! TIA
I have attempted the same thing on my Dodge. Everything works as intended with the radio however my heater is not working. Do you think thsi could be related to the canbus wires? I read the only function i would loose on my truck was the delay turn off on the radio when i used the regual cheap harnesss vs the interface. My dodge is basic no amp, no infinity, no power locks, windows or anything. Any ideas?
Justin Fentress No I don't think the harness has anything to do with it, double check you did not pop any fuses or that you did not tap into any wiring to the heater control. Also make sure all pigtails are plugged into the heater control unit.
on my Chrysler town and country, my stock stereo has 2 plugs that are grey that goes in back of the stereo. one large and the other small. I was wondering what the small plug is for because I only use the large plug in and I see a lead that has a hookup for a small plug. thanks
Thanks for the video. When I installed an after mark radio it wouldn't turn on. No power I guess. I saw you "tap into" the cigarette lighter power. What did you use to do that? I couldn't really see or tell what you used on the adapter harness and the cigarette lighter. I put both yellow wires of the adapter harness with the one yellow wire in the radio harness. Was that wrong? The truck is a 2008 Dodge ram 1500 and the radio is a JVC KD-R530
You most likely don't have power on the red wire? You really need a test light or volt meter to check for constant power on the yellow and switched power on the red. You will need to tap on the switched wire of the cigarette lighter/power outlet to get your switched power source. Unless you are using a vehicle interface. Hope that helps?
Was there not 2 screws to take out on the bottom? There was in another video I watched and also when I took my deck out. Also, always disconnect the battery first.
Hey man i know it’s an old video, but in the description for the dash kit, does the link for the dash kit contain the piece that seals off the round-end edges from the volume and tuner buttons? (The pieces you cut off the kit, to make the radio dash one solid piece) I followed the link to amazon I just want to make sure it before I buy it.
On my 2006, I tapped the white with green stripe, but I’m not getting 12v when in reverse? My reverse lights work, but that wire isn’t lighting up my test light… any suggestions?
adan adames Sorry I have been on vacation, Yes you need a wire adapter harness to plug in the truck then you simply match the colors up the aftermarket radio
I would like to install a PioneerAVHX2800BS in my 06 1500 and I am having difficulty fabricating brackets and determining the correct location and depth of radio to ensure I have a clean install (like you did!). Any recommendations on how to make the measurements?
+Mike Cardone Make multiple brackets, until you get the unit fitting correctly, you just have to keep making adjustments from each bracket and finally after some trial and error you will get it.
I have a 2008 Dogde Ram 1500 4Door non amplified system. I installed a Pioneer AVH-X2600BT as the only problem i have run into is that now my truck will stay running for 5 secs after it is turned off, takes about 5 secs for truck to start after key is turned. My display on the upper console on the headliner doesnt work. My keyless entry no longer works, and my power locks only work when the truck is on. Is there any way you can explain to me what exact wiring harness you used as im in the process of ordering a PAC C2R CHY4 as an after market interface to get all my stuff to work again ($70.00). Any help would be appreciated.
I have a 2007 ram 2500 it has the infinity system can I just buy the cheaper harness and tap into the cigarette lighter wire or do I need to buy the expensive interface one?
That truck does not have a switched 12volt positive source at the harness (the factory radio turns on and off via multiple ground signals, that an aftermarket radio will not understand ... That is the main reason you have to buy an interface or run a switched power like I did.
This truck is similar to the pontiacs, cobalts, malibus, etc. The standard harness has a accessory power wire off the harness to get your accessory power from a ignition source. Its significantly cheaper unless people want the info center, onstar, and satellite radio for models listed. It simplifies the install and saves an exceptional amount of money.
hello there I've hooked up all the wires and tapped the yellow wire from the plug into the cigarette lighter but for some reason my radio does not work... do I still need to connect a red wire to the ignition, if so, to what wire do i connect it? thank you very much
Yellow wire is constant +12v. You hook that wire up to the yellow wire on the harness and run the red +12v accessory wire to the yellow and pink wire coming from the cigarette lighter
Do you have the part numbers for the install kit, wiring harness and the antenna adapter you used? I'm putting a radio in my truck and want to use the same parts you are using.
Hey Bri I ended up ordering that Kenwood unit just wondering where you got those L silver brackets that you screwed to side of unit and did you have to bend them a littlle to screw into dash? Thanks .
No problem found some laying around that went to a dishwasher and got it all hooked up. Looks like nothing was done to the dash. Thanks for the money saving tips.
+John Evans I did use a wiring harness adapter.... Just not a radio replacement interface.. mainly due to cost and the interface's actually have a high failure rate..
a stereo shop installed on this exact truck, now my guage cluster clicks on and off (flashing the warning lights and the tach then it goes back to normal) at random , even when truck is parked. Any tips on what could cause this?
What do you do with the extra square connector that was plugged into the factory radio that has 3 wires in the plug? Do you just do away with it or?? Need some help. Just don’t want to leave anything out
Hi Brian can you please help me I have a 2010 dodge ram And I'm installing a gps nav deck originally I had it working but when installing sub I blew the factory amp turn on box so then I am trying to bypass the factory amp. I.bought was able to find a similar box I forget the name anyways. The original amp turn on didn't use the one harness the speaker wire harness. There are 3 wires to all speakers but when I connect them they don't work. What do I do
It appears this was on the stock 4 speaker truck, Non-Infinity/No Steering wheel controls. Did you lose any functionality at all? There is a lot of misinformation floating around about whether or not doing the switched accessory method you have shown will cause problems vs getting the excessively priced Metra harness. My gut tells me since its the base model truck it is fine but I would prefer to be sure. Thank you for your time!
Sorry it took me a bit to get back at you, been on vacation. Yes this was a base truck no steering controls etc. On this truck I found hooking up to the accessory is much more a preferred method I have done this for many of my customers and they have not had any problems. I actually have had allot more problems with the aftermarket interfaces not working correctly and causing other electrical problems with the vehicles like flashing dash lights, battery draws etc. On some vehicles there really is no good way of getting around not using a interface, however this one I would.
Great! I really appreciate the response. I assumed this was the case but I was not excited at the thought of getting it tore apart and finding out I did infact need the harness.
Running to a switched power source on a dodge vehicle is easy. Just tie into one of the power receptacles with a "key" on the cover of it. That designates it as a switched power source, just tap into that wire and you're done.
the scocshe cr-1286B for the dash kit is coming up as a dodge nitro when I try to look the dash kit? is that what you used or am I typing the part number wrong?
I have Dodge Ram 2006 with Infinity System. I will change oryginal Radio for double din alpine. What I must doing that speaker will be working? I have ISO kabel wiht adpater but speakers wouldn't working. Sorry for my english
I watched this with hopes of seeing the actual wiring process.. there is a 2nd smaller plug that comes out next to the large plug in thw factory unit that im not sure what to do with.. same truck same Kenwood ddx371 and same pac kit.. help please, have power but no sound.. and steering wheel buttons dont work either
bri thanks for the video, can you tell me if the truck you worked on has a factory amp, because im being told i have to by an interface for like $70.00 , but i want to do what you did. any help would be much appreciated,or from anyone else. thanks again
I'm gonna try what you did with trimming the bezel to install double din stereo. Do you know of any other double din stereos that would fit better? Less expensive stereo?
Im replacing my stock with a dual xdvd770bt wiring is all hooked up plugged in my schosche box to the cd player where does the other end tie in at i have power but no sound can you help me?
I'm working on a video for that on this truck soon. Its pretty simple you just hook up the reverse wire(tap to back up lights), switched power and ground. Then run the backup camera cable threw the firewall into the engine compartment and then along the frame to the license plate frame.
I have an 06 dodge i hooked all my wires up the same as you and i get it to turn on a few times if i let the truck sit overnight it wont turn on but has power to the radio i un hooked the cig. Plug and works fine is this am issue
+joseph price you hooked up to the constant cig port (port that always has power) and having current draw causing it not to turn on. find ACC ( accessory power )
This is an awesome video and extremely helpful! I have the dash bezel trimmed and the wiring is all done except for reverse, but I have the wire run, just waiting on the T splice. Everything turned and and all functions work...thanks for the reverse wire tip! Really saved time.
Thanks, glad it helped!
does it works in rhe same way for a dodge caliber?
Great video, my radio's screwing up, need to put in an aftermarket, this video will help.

Wow. I almost fuvked my sons truck up . Thank God I read this comment. This guy is an asshat . Just wow
Am not a dodge guy.... And dont have a ram but great job on the instal......i subscribed.......keep it up.

Nice, where did you buy it from? and who makes it? How much did you pay for it? Thanks for you info!
i got it from a car audio shop called Mickey Shores and it ran roughly $60.00
not sure on manufacturer though
Yes but with those 'kits' you lose the cubby under the radio which kinda sucks.

@@markbarrett6227 if its your stock radio most likely its toast. But if there is an amp check the fuse fir the amp
I was also wondering if you could a full wiring of the harness to the back of the radio to the dodge ram.
Real helpful, lots of good info.
Thanks!

Hi very helpfull video but you dont show after finding the 12v where does it connect to ?? Im installing one and wondering where to connect the 12v on the main radio harness!! Thanks
Did you figure it out im stuck right now and pissed lol
Find an answer to this?
Crutchfield currently sells double din install kits for these trucks.
What year is the truck. Can you make a list of all the things you bought with name and model numbers?
where did that longer wire come from to connect to switch power (cig lighter)? And where did the wire connect to give the radio the power?
The 12volt constant power is in the wiring harness adapter....(yellow wire on a aftermarket harness) The switched wire I had to go to the cig lighter.
Real helpful. But where did you plug the blue cable ?
You can also tap the white with green stripe wire in the A-pillar while you're running the mic.
Is that for the reverse lights? For the trigger wire?
I know this was 10 years ago but wouldn’t you not need the interface cable adapter on the manual version that only has cruise control functions on the wheel and no audio functions?
Do you have the Audio Wire Diagram of this Dodge 2008 ? I can not identify the wires for Front Speakers ...
Thanks for your assist !
This info could be correct..... However I'm not 100% sure...Would need to have your truck here to verify..
LF Speaker +: Dark Green/Yellow
LF Speaker -: Dark Green/Light Blue
RF Speaker +: Gray/yellow
RF Speaker -: Gray/Light Blue
Where do you find the radio wire diagram?
When u hooked into the lighter how did u hook it up I used the red and yellow wire off of the deck and hooked into the lighter but it still has no memory

If it did require that vss feed where did you connect up to that? I have the same vehicle 08 Dodge ram 1500 with base radio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
+Robert Garvey Great Question... No this unit is not a GPS. So no I did not hook up a vehicle speed wire. I will see if I can find that info for you.

Hey can u help me out where did you connect the other end of the cigarette cable the one that you tap the yellow cable to
did you ever figure it out? im still trying to he just cut the video and idk where it goes

Will the buttons on the steering wheel still work with the new radio?
+madmanownzall No...Unless you install a radio replacement interface that retains steering wheel controls.
damn
Which dremel bit did you use? I need to trim just a few millimeters off my dash opening. Thanks for the video!
+Chris Mendez I used just a smaller drill bit, I have used drill bits for many projects, works great!
Where do I add the power too? I added the split on the pink and yellow, but where do I connect it too?
Did you find an answer to this?
For the DVD all you have to do is ground that parking brake wire, Is easier than finding the parking brake wire and will allow you to watch the dvds any time.
hello so I am wondering if anyone knows where/how i can get a flat piece of plastic that is on the bottom pocket of the center dash part he is holding at the 5:24 minute part of video. I am doing an install of a Pioneer 4200 nex and I would like to install 2 flush mount attatchments to that area. (a flush mount usb/hdmi port and a flush mount usb/aux port). Thanks for any help guys/gals.
BRI what you recommend doing to the bezel if its the woodgrain? Would shaving it down mess up the finish?
Did this truck have the infinity sound system? My 2008 2500 has infinity system and the wiring harness you showed will not work .. didn't feel like buying the 109$ harness !
+Logan Prichard No infinity system, this truck was a plan old work Truck, didn't even have carpet.
+Do It Yourself Bri thanks for quick response! I just thought you said it had steering wheel
Controls
So your saying you HAVE to buy the $109 harness if you have the infinity system?
The install looks great bud! I just bought and 08 with the same factory radio and I'm looking to do exactly what you did. I just have 1 question. Do those black inserts from the dash kit sit flush with the bezel? Because I was gonna plastidip where it's silver on the bezel.
And did you use a 6.5 inch double din or 7 inch? Or does it even matter.
crazycracker45acp 6.5 or 7 will work just fine (does not matter) They don't sit perfectly flush, some people bondo and paint the bezel to give it more of a factory look.
So the radio comes with no brackets? Didnt the face kit come with any?
Any videos on a 2015 ram double din install?
forgot to ask about the Chrysler wire harness for the steering wheel controls, and you mentioned the back up camera for this install, couldn't find it, can you include the link. I am assuming that it is for this same radio. Thanks
Fernando BO Botero This may be what your looking for?
www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=1116&CategoryID=26
Do It Yourself Bri Thanks for your help!
any change to links to all the products you used? caps, crimps harnesses etc...? feel like i'm going to do my 2006 based on this....NEX8000 install
I will have to look into that.... I will post them soon, however for now amazon is probably your best bet...
Prolean Wellness Yes you can I do this all the time on dodge trucks.
I was wondering what the small plug is for because I only use the large plug in and I see a lead that has a hookup for a small plug. thanks
+Paul Morton What year?
+jadarrian edmond I got it resolved. its an accessory for blue tooth.
Do It Yourself Bri thank you
The pink and yellow wire were does the end of the yellow connects to ?
Was there not 2 screws to take out on the bottom? There was in another video I watched and also when I took my deck out. Also, always disconnect the battery first.
Hey man i know it’s an old video, but in the description for the dash kit, does the link for the dash kit contain the piece that seals off the round-end edges from the volume and tuner buttons? (The pieces you cut off the kit, to make the radio dash one solid piece) I followed the link to amazon I just want to make sure it before I buy it.
Where did you find those metal brackets u install on the side of your dvd receiver
Jerry Brooks I just picked them up from lowes.
Sorry I cant really remember for sure.
where did u get the half moon peaces for the sides?
On my 2006, I tapped the white with green stripe, but I’m not getting 12v when in reverse? My reverse lights work, but that wire isn’t lighting up my test light… any suggestions?
Great job very clean installation
Great Video
Looks really nice.
quick question... how do you wire the speakers? do you splice the oem radio wiring whith the radio adapter wiring ?
adan adames Sorry I have been on vacation, Yes you need a wire adapter harness to plug in the truck then you simply match the colors up the aftermarket radio
Hey Bri quick question. Where did that yellow wire you hooked to the switched power come from? Did you hook that to the red switched in the radio?
Tapped into the pink with yellow stripe wire to the power outlet.
Is the antenna adapter universal because I'm trying to find one online for my 03 hyundai elantra and can't seem to find it anywhere
I don't think that vehicle requires a antenna adapter.
Where did you get that dash kit
Very helpful video thanks
Jim Vanderwater I'm really sorry you had this problem, I'm not sure what went wrong. I have done this on 50+ dodges without any problem. @02
I have a 2007 ram 2500 it has the infinity system can I just buy the cheaper harness and tap into the cigarette lighter wire or do I need to buy the expensive interface one?
For infinity in dodges, just like bose in cadilacs, you need that Pac if you have steering volume power controls.
why would you not use the switched power source provided in your harness.
That truck does not have a switched 12volt positive source at the harness (the factory radio turns on and off via multiple ground signals, that an aftermarket radio will not understand ... That is the main reason you have to buy an interface or run a switched power like I did.
If you get the right harness, you don't have to tap into anything.
I just paid the money for the right parts. Was actually pretty easy
A lot of work but better than paying $100 for an interface and dealing with those extra unnecessary wires
The ignition wire you run to the lighter, does that go to the red wire on my radio harness?
Yes
I need a wiring diagram for a 2013 - 2017 Ram 1500. Either a color coded diagram or pin out for the large radio connector.
hello there
I've hooked up all the wires and tapped the yellow wire from the plug into the cigarette lighter but for some reason my radio does not work... do I still need to connect a red wire to the ignition, if so, to what wire do i connect it?
thank you very much
Yellow wire is constant +12v. You hook that wire up to the yellow wire on the harness and run the red +12v accessory wire to the yellow and pink wire coming from the cigarette lighter
@@Keith-ky9pm
thank you !
Do you have the part numbers for the install kit, wiring harness and the antenna adapter you used? I'm putting a radio in my truck and want to use the same parts you are using.
+Keith Mask I Used All Schoshe brand parts Ant Adapter-CRAB Dash Kit-CR1286B Wire Harness-CR04B
+Do It Yourself Bri Thanks man, I really appreciate it.
What size tires did the truck have?
Hey Bri I ended up ordering that Kenwood unit just wondering where you got those L silver brackets that you screwed to side of unit and did you have to bend them a littlle to screw into dash? Thanks .
Noe Reyes Lowes, I'm sorry I have been super busy with work!
No problem found some laying around that went to a dishwasher and got it all hooked up. Looks like nothing was done to the dash. Thanks for the money saving tips.
great information
I will be installing a pioneer avic-930bt if that additional information is helpful
I'm curious to know why you don't use a wiring harness adapter?
+John Evans I did use a wiring harness adapter.... Just not a radio replacement interface.. mainly due to cost and the interface's actually have a high failure rate..
a stereo shop installed on this exact truck, now my guage cluster clicks on and off (flashing the warning lights and the tach then it goes back to normal) at random , even when truck is parked. Any tips on what could cause this?
+Mac thedutch I have not seen that before, however you may want to talk with the stereo shop that put it in for you.
Great job my friend . What is the name and model of the new radio?
Hello could you add a photo or part number for the switch power wire you used and where dose that connect on the truck?
chesko112 Sorry I will work on that
What do you do with the extra square connector that was plugged into the factory radio that has 3 wires in the plug? Do you just do away with it or?? Need some help. Just don’t want to leave anything out
You don't need the small plug it's only for the factory radio
Keith Tonak okay thanks!
Hi Brian can you please help me
I have a 2010 dodge ram
And I'm installing a gps nav deck originally I had it working but when installing sub I blew the factory amp turn on box so then I am trying to bypass the factory amp.
Running to a switched power source on a dodge vehicle is easy. Just tie into one of the power receptacles with a "key" on the cover of it. That designates it as a switched power source, just tap into that wire and you're done.
Hi, great video. Can you give me the reference for the antenna adapter please, I am going to tackle this project and I don't want any setbacks, thanks
Sorry I have been in the mountains. (Vacation)
www.scosche.com/car-audio/installation/2002-chy-jp-ant-adapter
the scocshe cr-1286B for the dash kit is coming up as a dodge nitro when I try to look the dash kit? is that what you used or am I typing the part number wrong?
+Ryan Bowen Yes that is the kit # I used.... (they don't really make a kit for this truck to perform a double din)
I have Dodge Ram 2006 with Infinity System. I will change oryginal Radio for double din alpine. What I must doing that speaker will be working? I have ISO kabel wiht adpater but speakers wouldn't working. Sorry for my english
I know this is an old video, but do you have the info on the dash kit and wire harness you purchased?
Oh, I see it in the description. Thanks.
Will the wire harness you used, also work for a 2007 Ram 1500? I am having a tough time locating the right harness adapter.
@Sharona Carr I ended up buying a replacement used stereo unit and postponed upgrading. :)
How did you hook up the steering wheel controls bc you never show how you did that?
I watched this with hopes of seeing the actual wiring process.. there is a 2nd smaller plug that comes out next to the large plug in thw factory unit that im not sure what to do with.. same truck same Kenwood ddx371 and same pac kit.. help please, have power but no sound.. and steering wheel buttons dont work either
On my truck the cigarette lighter is not a keyed power it is a constant power source… what’s another good constant power on a 2009 dodge 2500
bri thanks for the video, can you tell me if the truck you worked on has a factory amp, because im being told i have to by an interface for like $70.00 , but i want to do what you did. any help would be much appreciated,or from anyone else. thanks again
So do you connect the red to the red yellow to yellow and then tap the cigarette to the red
David Enriquez You connect the yellow to the yellow, and the red to the ignition/cigarette lighter only.
Was that mounting kit double din or for single?
Single din, they don't make a kit for this truck that is double.
I'm gonna try what you did with trimming the bezel to install double din stereo. Do you know of any other double din stereos that would fit better? Less expensive stereo?
They are all going to fit about the same, and they are all pretty close on price I sell Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony. Pricing starts at $229.00
I don't recommend the crazy cheep brands like dual, boss, Jensen etc. They are all JUNK!
Im replacing my stock with a dual xdvd770bt wiring is all hooked up plugged in my schosche box to the cd player where does the other end tie in at i have power but no sound can you help me?
What is the year make, model of your car or truck?
Its 2007 5.9 with infinity sound system it worked for 3 hrs started it this morning everything displays no sound again
My left port doesnt work. Can i tap into the right 12v port instead
What dash kit is that?
Will this work with the infinity sound system
No you will need a radio replacement interface.
How did you run the backup camera wiring?
I'm working on a video for that on this truck soon. Its pretty simple you just hook up the reverse wire(tap to back up lights), switched power and ground. Then run the backup camera cable threw the firewall into the engine compartment and then along the frame to the license plate frame.
Do It Yourself Bri Did you run the cable through the frame?
William Lugaila No just ran it with the factory trailer wiring harness loom outside the frame, just wire tied it nicely with it.
I hooked up the same off the cig lighter in the left only has power when the key is on only powers on when it wants to
+joseph price there's a difference between the "ON" on the key then "ACC" does it turn on when the key is in ACC . (The first turn)
yes but inly when it wants to
+joseph price just to cover the basics the wire you are hooking up to the cig. Lighter port POSTIVE is the red wire on the stereo harness.
