Thanks for the vid! I was racking my brain trying to figure out what the small harness on the factory radio was for and why my new harness didn’t have it. Glad to know it’s not needed! 👍🏻
Just got a 08’ and this video was really helpful. Appreciate it sir!
Been scratching my head. Perfect video. Thanks!!!!
Did your 08 have the infinity stereo ?? Cant seem to find the right adapter
@@_choom_24 hey, so Turns out I got rid of the 08 and got an 06 3500 diesel and it does have the infinity. He mentioned the 7 speaker system wire harness. Isn’t that it?
Good video and very well explained. Ordered the newer style radio, with the installation kit and harnesses. Also ordered a back up camera for the radio. See what happens this weekend when I install it on our 2008 Ram 5500 wrecker
A.B.E. Towing & Recovery how did it turn out
You the man for doing this video. I pretty much to the same thing you did and everything work out good. Thanks man
Thanks for the video man. I have got to get the correct dash kit for my 07 Ram. Everything else was perfect. Some aftermarkets for newer vehicles have the stereo already attached to the kit. WTF I got to jump through hoops just to make mine look nice.😂
Thank you bro!!!! I needed to know what to order because google wasnt helping me. The links u got dont work but the names was all i needed
Great i'm glad this helped! Yeah this video is from some time ago they probably updated their sites.
Im a bit behind and confused tbh, whats the point of that blue box/device? Im trying to get a wiring harness and why are they so expensive? Ive done a radio installation on my old dakota and it was like $15-$20
this was very easy to follow. im helping my friend install his radio so i should be able to now thanks!
Great! Comment back if you run Into any questions
@@GreenMountainProjects i cant find a wiring harness for my 06 anywhere crutchfield link doesnt work and when i got to the site it says they have none any idea where i might find a harness
@@big-bad-bruins22hockeyman73maybe Amazon?
Wow you made it look really easy dude
What I shoot for in my vids 👍🏻
I notice at 2:54 You had two yellow wires going to one yellow wire. Is that correct ...ive been trying to figure out why there are two yellow then only one. ....im trying to figure out what colors go where
Im having the same problem with my 08. Cant get power to the new radio. Theres definitely power my old one turns right back on
Michael Hand I’m having this problem now. Did u figure it out?
@@johnelkins846 run a switch wire from the cigarette lighter wire make sure it's an ignition outlet
@@nicksantanen9923Run the wire to the power of the radio? or
what wire on the cr2 chy is the switched ignition wire? if i have both yellow to one yellow, no power, if i add the red, i get constant power. where did you hook up the switched ignition wire from the radio into the harness so the radio turns off with the car off. right now mine stays on with the car off because i dont know which one is the switched ignition
Honestly can’t remember what I hooked up to what as I made this video a few years ago. I do remember seeing labeling on the wires so look closely to see if one says it.
Did you find a fix for this?
screws on bottom of trim panel removed - at least in my 06 - be warned must remove bottom cup holder and trim to access screws then this trim can be laid dow to remove.
harleyJune true, but some rams were not equipped with the screws. Our ram 5500 didn't have them.
Yeah I was surprised mine was only clips holding the dash, everything I looked at online was showing
screws like you said
Great video you covered it all thanks a ton.
2:51 Did you put both yellow wires together into the single yellow wire from stereo harness?
I believe so but hard to remember as i made this back in 2017. I would test it but if they are all the same color there should b no issue connected all together.
i have quick ? for you i have two yellow wire coming out from the factory connector do they both go to the 12V wire ?
Hey, where did you get those toggle switches in the lower compartment? They seem to fit in there real nice!
Amazon, just a normal rocker switch. Can get them at any auto store as well.
@@GreenMountainProjects Where did you pull power from for those rocker switches?
So does this mean the regular plug in harrness won't work? I can't see my truck having a factory amp, stereo is absolute garbage. 2007 SLT
Dose the radio you bought have a spot in the back for rca cables ?
Yes it does.
Did you have any extra wires you didn’t use. That’s my issues right now.
Kyler Martin yes there were a few
I liked the video once I heard lil Uzi 😂‼️
Whats the name of the song. Lol
charles coppedge XO TOUR LIF3
How did you get sound I’ve done all of this and NO sound nothing???? Any help thx
My best guess is check your wiring harness connections to the radios wiring.
Hey, Those rocker switches you have below the touch screen interface you install in this video, are they for heated seats ? Ive been trying to find out if i can change my switches out for rocker switches for my heated seats and turbo brake so i can have them on during the remote start interval. If you have any information about this i would much appreciate it ! I am also installing a double din in my truck my next set of days off, eincar brand. Nothing fancy, but your set up looks nice man ! Great job !
Those switches, I have my LED lights and Bars hooked up to. My dash has a factory storage slot for like a phone or a wallet. The switches just happened to fit into the slot perfectly. as for your switches you can make them rockers switches. All depends on the type of switch you currently have. Some switches have 2, 3, or 5 pins on the back for different type of set ups. If you take out your factory switches just look at how many wires u see coming or going to it, and that's how many pins you should need. There are also a ton of helpful RUclips Videos explaining switch wiring, maybe I will even make one!
Okay awesome, thanks ! That would be helpful !
So this harness should bypass my infinity amp and enable steering wheel controls if done correctly on my 2006 ram ?
roy pena yes that PAC harness has an extra plug for that, I didn’t need to use it but in your case you would
Using the mounting brackets I'm having hell getting in lined up with the console panel
which mounting bracket are you referring to the trim that goes over radio or the one that holds the whole radio ?
You moved the wires and the camera around too fast.
I wanted a closer look at the factory ends.
I have the same interior in my 06. I am scared to pry on my dash because a lot of people say there are screws. Does anyone know what’s up with this and which is true?
Depends how much of the dash you are taking apart, if it’s like mine I had all pop clips
I have the same truck, with an infinity 7 speaker system. I used the same harness from PAC to connect to my pioneer. But I don't have sound in the back?
Same issue here
Gonna mess with it today
I have the same issue. Rear speakers work when the radio is on but Bluetooth they won’t play.. suggestions!?! Need help ASAP !
Pac-harness is the problem. When I used a harness from access all was solved. I learned that the amp only has 2 audio inputs and that it is digitally controlled to front and back. The PAC hardness doesn't deliver the digital signal to the Amp and therefore you don't have sound in the back....
@@dirkvanhecke so if wired color to color like normal not like the instructions say no sound will play?
@@Rvk_Buttknife23 I don't think so .... The soundsystem only has a left and right input, and everything is digitale split over the 7 speakers. The Amp is also digitaly controlled over the can-bus. The controls on the steering wheel also digitally control the Amp. Therefore you need the axxess-cable to connect to to your third-party Amp... Or if you want to connect like you told ( color to color) then you need to bypass the Amp, which I think is really a Pain in the ass.... I now use a pioneer with the infinity Amp and An interfaces by Axxess... I never had such a great sound in any other car I had before....
My 2006 Dodge ram 1500 Quad cab SLT 4x4 was broken into and they cut the manufactures Radio Harness What would you recommend to do so I can put a new radio in with Nav?? Yes I do have steering wheel volume control.
First of all i'm sorry to hear that. when you get a new radio you get a new harness as well so just match up the colors of the factory wires that were cut and connect them by hand. you may have to remove the connector of the new harness as the receiving end was probably stolen with your radio. I have never dealt with Nav so I'm not sure I could be much help with that but there should be a video on RUclips somewhere explaining that.
Please help did you use any of the wires coming of the interface connector? If so which ones
yes I remember there being wires I connected
If I want to install a aftermarket amplifier for subs do I just plug it in to my stereo or will the factory amp interfere with it?
Just plug it in to the stereo and you should be all set.
@@GreenMountainProjects thank you!
Any Idea why an 07 would initially power up the radio and then power cycle off? Then not have power until I unplug and replug.
Michael Vuyk if it’s an old radio it could be on its way out, or a faulty new radio
So did you match the wires color to color or did you follow the pac directions for a factory amplifier to connect front outputs to the rear inputs ?
color to color
Avery Bliznik but will that work all the speakers? Why do I have two yellows and two blacks coming from 22 pin
@@GreenMountainProjectsdid you run into the radio staying in after shutting the truck off?
What do you do with the USB cable if it comes off the back of the radio, is there a good way to route the cord so I don't have to have it hanging out the front of the trim?
I ran mine into the little storage bin directly under the radio
Wasn't that sirius ready ?
How did you mount the rocker switches?
they clip right into the dash compartment, they just happened to fit perfectly
@@GreenMountainProjects Very Clean! Good to know
What is the small plug you undid after the big one and the antenna? Ans Werner does that go when doing a Kenwood ddx371...
Im not sure exactly what that small plug is for but its not needed with an aftermarket radio... and For putting in a Kenwood receiver it should work just the same.
Its not giving me sound or thumb controls
check your wiring from the radio to harness... are u referring to the steering wheel control?
Just installed my radio today and now I got a check light any suggestions on what it could be I wired color to color just like you stated in the video
where is the check light? on the radio or a check engine light ?
It might be the can bus system not being able to communicate
The glare is driving me crazy
lol crapy old GoPro night filming will do that
Hello Thank you for the share will this harness work with a 2007 dodge ram 1500 (PAC C2R-CHY4 Radio Replacement Interface for Chrysler) and what about the antenna Thank you again you made it look so easy..
K B i believe it should but don’t quote me, check on websites like crutchfield audio or even Best Buy to figure out what harness you need exactly. There is an adapter for the antenna you will need as well. All together other than the head unit you will need the wiring harness, PAC interface, antenna adapter and any trim pieces/ mounting brackets.
do the controls on the steering wheel work on this set up?
rtodahl01 yes they’re is an option for that, in this video I didn’t do it bc my truck doesn’t have it
I done this change on my 08 can't get any sound help me
These are a few reasons they won't work and your should double check:
1. Make sure the PAC unit is plugged in correctly i remember running into an issue when I did mine.
2. Check all your wire connections.
3. Resetting the radio itself can be needed.
4. Check you fuzes that are for the radio/ speakers, they sometimes blow when a new unit is hooked up.
5. Make sure the parking break wire is connected so the radio doesn't lock itself out. thinking you are trying to watch a movie while driving if it's like the radio I installed.
I hava a ram 1500 2006 , 4 speaker .
I changed my speaker and they still sound like crap .
If i change the stock radio does the speaker should sound better ?
So some aftermarket speakers require either a new radio head unit or possibly an amp. This is because they need more power to get the sounds out.
Is there any way we can upgrade the factory amp to sound and provide better output
The only way to upgrade is to purchase an aftermarket amp, upgrading your radio to an aftermarket will boost it a little bit.
I just installed a pioneer unit in my 07, now all the dash lights are on and the speedo/tachometer do not work. Any clues as to what may have cause this.
Ruben Ruiz not totally sure but it could be an issue with the ground or the wire to the radio that dims the lights of the radio with your dash lights
What happened (Im guessing) is that I turned on the truck without the stereo plugged in (had to move it) i finished instaling it and after a while of being on everything went back to normal.
I installed a stereo on dodge durango 2006 and turn on but no sound i have a pink cable from theinterface do u no wher i have to conect this or how do to have sound thanks...
Usually every wire will be color to color with the wiring harness, that could be like an AMP turn on for if you had a Subwoofer. Try checking the fuze for the radio sometimes new radios will blow the vehicles 15 amp fuze. they are usually under steering column.
Do you need the pac adapter for an aftermarket radio to even power on in a ram 2500
That’s a good question I would assume yes bc the display units should be the same in a 1500 to 2500.
Where did u get the black face to cover your cuts
Lorenzo Benavidez amazon or crutchfield audio
Does yours have the infinity sound system
It does not
Any suggestions for getting bigger display?
A double DIN screen like mine in the video is the largest you can get aftermarket. Unless your going to pay thousands to have some custom outfitter do something more custom and bigger. Does this answer your question?
Okay so my truck has infinity premium speakers and I followed the instructions and connected the front speaker wires to the rears on the pac adapter and no sound is coming through help
I am having the same issue. I cannot find any info on the problem
not really sure exactly what could be going on but check your wiring and the pac.
Any problems with the radio since you installed it?
only thing is sometimes when I turn the volume knob to make it louder it goes down, this is probably bc im in VT and its been negative temps the last two months lol. Besides that I have had it two years and I still love it!
@@tomchristiana2948 thanks for the info and very in depth video.
No a problem and thanks!@@IStrokerl
@@tomchristiana2948 quick question on the harness that came with the radio what wire on pac did you wire it to? I have yellow to yellow and nothing. I can wire the red to the yellow and have power, but it's constant meaning my radio can be turned on when the key is off. Any ideas?
It's been almost two years since I have done the wiring and looked at the wires myself. What I remember is I always just did color to color. If the yellow to yellow doesn't work when the vehicle turns on check the fuze assigned to the radio as somtimes the old fuzes blow with a new head unit. @@IStrokerl
I was told the trim piece you used doesn't exist... but I just saw you use one. Any links?
www.metraonline.com/part/95-6528B
What size radio did u get I have exact same stock radio
There is either single or double DIN, the one is the video is double, the mounting bracket comes with trim so even a smaller single DIN radio will look decent in the large opening.
So i got mine hooked up but no sound the controls on my steering work but no sound..paid 80 for the harness
Not too sure I would check the wiring connections on the harness.
@@GreenMountainProjects i have the stock infinity sound system on a 07 2500 cummings
@@marcosruiz8756 I had the exact problem on my 07 with infinity sound. I went to best buy and got a different harness. Its made by PAC and the model number is RP4-CH11. It fixed the problem and the steering wheel controls work perfectly.
@@utjason8 thanks i actually got it and sounds great need to upgrade all speakers tho ...
Thanks just destroyed my front panel trying pry out non existent clips in my 2006
hahaha dumbass
Does red/white go with red
Should be matching the colors unless there is no other red white for it to go with you could try that
How can I find that same stereo?
Just google Axxera AV6117B unit, they aren’t on the the site I got it off anymore from what I could see, but there are a bunch on eBay, also check out any double DIN unit they are all pretty reputable and basically install the same way off of Crutchfield audios website.
Thanks , I put radio n.in . It do not work , watch your video .It hit me , I had the pack to the steering controls. A
Ll wor ok thanks
Was that a 6.2 radio?
What are you referring to as 6.2?
if i have 4 speaker system do i need the pac
honestly not sure. I got my stuff off of Crutchfield Audio and if you called them they have very good tech support for stuff like that.
What is the smaller plug for lol
if I remember correctly it was staring wheel control if you have it.
I know I’m late but I tried a different harness and it didn’t have a functional accessory wire and would leave my radio on when the truck is off. Does this harness fix that?
This harness has a power wire so it goes on and off with the car.
I cant my radio to illuminate. Why??
There is an illumination wire that need to be connected, or a fuze could be blown and just need replacing on your cars fuze panel.
I don't have an amp or steering wheel controls, will the pac harness still work for me?
Yes it will! I had the exact same setup as you in my truck when this video was made.
So do you have to have that pack?
@t&A automotive You didn't get a check engine light after you did this by chance, did you?
i got the same interface for my 07 ram but im only getting sound from back speakers
If the front speakers worked fine before I would check the wires you connected from radio to wiring harness.
@@GreenMountainProjects i fixed it the factory amp only had left and right so i wired the back and front wires together.
@@nellyjellybelly2200 how does that work for you?? I thought about doing that too but was thinking it could mess something up.
Hey
Hi
How big is the screen of the stereo
Not sure off the top of my head but around a 5x8"
No power to radio, am I missing something ?
make sure you have wired the power and ensure the colors match up if that right check the control wire (switch wire) it's usually a blue color and that's what you need to wire to the ignition otherwise it won't be switched on. It'll have power but nothing to turn it on. If those are correct and still nothing double check all coneections.
I have a 06 Ram 1500 Laramie and when I put in a new head unit it didn't work. Most of these trucks with the Infinity system runs on data transfer. If you have no power then you need to get direct power from an auxiliary (cigg plug). If it powers on but you have no sound then you have the wrong module. You will need a data transfer module
crutchfield are grossly overpriced
Yeah your not wrong haven't used them in a few years
Lame. You only showed the easy parts
You skipped the most needed info ...
If you know what those parts are then why are you looking up this video… I only cut out parts that are repetitive and would waist peoples time watching.. .
I hooked my radio up by the color of the wires and mine didnt come on, but I hooked a different radio that i know works and it didnt come on either any advice?
Maxwell Copeland I would look up the location and check you fuse for the radio some times when you install a new radio the first time it will pop the fuse. It happened to mine too.
