  • Time to address Jordan’s two-hour monstrosity about religion, Hour Faith. This will take a few videos to get through, but here’s the first one, which deals with Jordan’s introduction, and animism… which is quantum physics, apparently.
    My Patreon: / martymer81
    Jordan’s video: • Hour Faith ~ The World... (footage from said video is used for purposes of commentary and criticism in accordance with US and Swedish copyright law)
    The QM textbook shown is Griffith, 1995, Introduction to Quantum Mechanics.
    Game footage from WWE 2K16 from 2K Games. "Why Do People Laugh at Spirit 'Science'?" is a series in which I debunk and make fun of the claims of defacto new age cult leader Jordan Duchnycz/Pearce/David/River/whatever he calls himself this week, and his "Spirit Science," which is about as far from science as it gets. Featuring psychic powers, male and female energy which apparently relates to thermodynamics, spinning physical wheels inside our bodies and Jews from space, this is some serious stupid that sadly, millions of people seem to take seriously.

      @Petrico94 7 лет назад

      Electrons are big objects now, turning on the lights to observe the experiment automatically changes it, we're still trying to find what rules can work because most of what we can come up with now is measuring spin means you can't measure speed or location afterwards

      Cornwall1888 The worst part is that nobody seems to realize quantum physics only happen on the atomic level. What's that? Your soul exists because quantum mechanics? How big do you think a soul is?
      The problem is trying to bend empirical science into supporting unprovable garbage.

      Question: Isn't diamagnetism a quantum mechanical effect? I know it's a very weak force, but it CAN me measured at macroscopic scales, can it not? The infamous cereal-on-water-being-attracted-by-a-magnet experiment comes to mind. (They say the magnet is attracting iron in the corn flakes, but diamagnetism is being offered as an alternate explanation, as a possible flaw in the experiment.)

    I feel like I should point out two additional things about the proportion of atheists in the world:
    1. Leaving Islam and openly admitting to be an atheist might result in sudden drop in life expectancy depending on where you live...
    2. Since I don't know how these numbers were collected: Here in Germany if you were baptized as a child you are registered as being part of the catholic church, the protestant church etc. and you have to pay for the paperwork to leave.
    Also, afaik if your parents are muslim you are registered as muslim.
    I don't know about similar systems in other countries but there might be millions who are registered as being part of a religious group simply because leaving said group doesn't seem worth the effort.

      Also a large amount of people still don't have access to high school level education. And it's in high school most you learn most of the things that contradict or just doesn't really fit in with most religions. It is therefor no surprise these people are religious. And there's also the fact that populations in religious places are growing faster than in less religious places so as a % more and more people are religious but that's not because people are converting. When talking about the growth of atheism people mostly talk about the first world which has relatively low or even negative growth rates but here atheism is on the rise and rapidly in fact.

    Jordan's knowledge of quantum physics does not equal that of ancient cultures. He knows that the term exists and can recite other terms associated with quantum physics; they didn't even know about the possibility of quantum physics, and some of them didn't know about the possibility of physics.
    Does that mean Jordan knows more about it than they do? Maybe; but then again, maybe he knows *less* about it than they do; since they didn't know that quantum physics exists, they didn't get any of it wrong, whereas Jordan does (get it wrong). Is it possible to possess *negative* quantities of knowledge?

    • @hokonphenomenology
      @hokonphenomenology 7 лет назад +13

      In having to sit through philosophy grad students debate evolution recently, I can confirm that negative quantities of knowledge exist.
      "neo-Darwinism is dogmatic!" "evolution is a philosophic concept - not a reductive-mechanistic one!" "since Einstein, scientists have ditched the _true_ scientific method for a century!" etc. . . . I almost blew a gasket listening to that crap for 20 minutes.

    • @Yal_Rathol
      @Yal_Rathol 6 лет назад +1

      Hokon Cazalet philosophers are the worst because they never engage in practicality and attempt to define their way around problems. this is part of the reason apologists are infuriating, because they use the exact same tools as philosophers, they just have a conclusion already in mind.
      however, this is an instance where we can actually define our way around this, because if we define knowledge as "accumulated data", then it is possible to have negative knowledge only if you lose accumulated data. however, by defining knowledge as "practical information", we can show that yes, negative knowledge is possible, especially when it comes to philosophers and peddlers of the faith, because they unmake practical knowledge by spreading insane bullshit.

    Congratulations on becoming a dad 👶🙌💝!
    Re the religion explanation, I grew up a child of a lapsed Anglican and an out and out atheist (as a member of the Civil Defense, he lost any remaining faith carrying out the dead bodies of children the same age as my older sisters at the Aberfan disaster). I was free to choose my own path, entered the church as I loved singing in the choir, but after the hatred spouted by so-called Christians towards women vicars I was ready to leave. Until we got our very own, very wonderful woman vicar who ministered to everyone in our country parish whether religious or not. She behaved (still is doing so there I hope - we moved parishes) exactly what Jesus described as the way he wanted his followers to act. Religious or not, believing that he is the son of God or not, it doesn't matter: she acted as one would expect a true Christian to act. Then along came the next fight. Though not personally affected, I could not stand by and desert my gay friends - or any other gay person. I had stayed to fight for women from the inside, I now left to fight for gay Christians from the outside - and still do. I try to live a Christian life (philosophically, not religiously - my faith had died by now, but being nice to people isn't a bad way to live I think). I felt a metaphorical hole in me though and allowed my Celtic genes to guide me. Always a lover of nature I felt an attachment to Paganism. However I don't go in for dressing up and visiting Stonehenge (or doing any of the other practices). So whilst still feeling that attachment, I didn't act publicly.
    The first time I went into hospital after coming to terms with my feelings, I was asked if I was religious. I told them I was a lapsed Pagan. The nurse looked rather bewildered...
    Btw, during all of these years I never doubted the truth of science and the only scientific spirit to me was the alcohol used in the lab. I've churned out 3 scientists and another who knows more about her children's genetic condition than most doctors. The local hospital asks her to hold Q&A sessions with med students. So religious tendencies (or even belief) and a trust in proper science aren't mutually exclusive. Look at Newton and Faraday for example.
    Please carry on with these debunking videos. I have a horrible feeling that in some parts of the world, inc some of the USA's states, these will become the best portal to the scientific method and ultimately the truth. Good luck with the baby!

    Very excited to see more Jordan-drubbing -- though I do feel sorry that you have to go through dealing with his nonsense in order for us to enjoy the results. And let me add my congratulations on your expanding family! (Martymer 82???)

    By his awareness of quantum mechanics and the sub-atomic Jordan does know more about quantum mechanics than ancient cultures. In antiquity you have to go Aristotle basically naval gazing about the possibility of matter being indivisible at some incredibly small scale before you have anything resembling our modern understanding of the universe.

    Thank you so much for these videos. As a science groupie I am very concerned about this resurgence of ignorance happening all around us. These videos don't only point out the idiotic insanity and warped world view of wee Jordan here. They also show how to wade through the ever deepening B.S being propagated throughout society these days. Again thank you and keep it up.

    The "non-religious" in the pie chart should be what I have known as "Weak atheist" who has no belief that god exists (which is the default stance since birth), as opposed to "Strong atheist" ("Atheist" in the pie chart) who has a positive belief that god doesn't exist.

    How can you say atheist and non-religious are the same thing? You can be non-religious and still believe in God. Deism, open Theism, etc.

    at 1:38, I think the youtuber, Arcana, as the best definition for religion: He says that you need 2 things to be religious
    1. a concept of the divine
    2. rituals and prractices that a group needs to observe based on this concept of the divine.
    If you have #1 without #2, it is not a religion. The individual only has a spirituality.
    With this definition, the non religious group can have a spirituality but not be religious. We usually call this peopel agnostic.
