Quantum Animism (WDPLaSS 24)

- Time to address Jordan’s two-hour monstrosity about religion, Hour Faith. This will take a few videos to get through, but here’s the first one, which deals with Jordan’s introduction, and animism… which is quantum physics, apparently.

Jordan’s video: • Hour Faith ~ The World... (footage from said video is used for purposes of commentary and criticism in accordance with US and Swedish copyright law)
The QM textbook shown is Griffith, 1995, Introduction to Quantum Mechanics.
Game footage from WWE 2K16 from 2K Games. "Why Do People Laugh at Spirit 'Science'?" is a series in which I debunk and make fun of the claims of defacto new age cult leader Jordan Duchnycz/Pearce/David/River/whatever he calls himself this week, and his "Spirit Science," which is about as far from science as it gets. Featuring psychic powers, male and female energy which apparently relates to thermodynamics, spinning physical wheels inside our bodies and Jews from space, this is some serious stupid that sadly, millions of people seem to take seriously.
Well, atleast Animism has a +2% modifier for local missionary strength.
I briefly played as a druid. Don't remember if animism came into play there.
Holy crap there are alot of EU4 players on Marty's channel.
Better than Buddhism though, which has Tolerance of heretics. You could have gotten that by Humanist ideas!
Markus But you basically get free discipline and diplo rep, though.
Norse for life. Love that pick-a-god versatility.
I hate it when people think quantum physics means anything goes
Cornwall1888 Exactly! The rules are (very) different, but they're still there.
Electrons are big objects now, turning on the lights to observe the experiment automatically changes it, we're still trying to find what rules can work because most of what we can come up with now is measuring spin means you can't measure speed or location afterwards
Cornwall1888 The worst part is that nobody seems to realize quantum physics only happen on the atomic level. What's that? Your soul exists because quantum mechanics? How big do you think a soul is?
The problem is trying to bend empirical science into supporting unprovable garbage.
+Cornwall1888
I see that shit in fiction all the time. And it pisses me off.
If you want magic, have fucking magic, don't abuse quantum physics as a "scientific" explanation for impossible shit.
+Not-yet-Dr. Zandi
Question: Isn't diamagnetism a quantum mechanical effect? I know it's a very weak force, but it CAN me measured at macroscopic scales, can it not? The infamous cereal-on-water-being-attracted-by-a-magnet experiment comes to mind. (They say the magnet is attracting iron in the corn flakes, but diamagnetism is being offered as an alternate explanation, as a possible flaw in the experiment.)
0:15 - Congratulations to you and your whole family on new little boy!!
Yes, congratulations to the end of his life. I have a 3 years old daughter.
Huzzah for Micro-Mer!
Grattis för pojke! You look suspiciously well rested for a new father.. Clearly your third eye is aligned with the sacred geometry of nappies! :-)
Mini-Marty?
I can see Mini-Marty at pre-school, debunking fairy tales, cartoons, and the teachers accidental science mistakes. And not least of all, looking over his shoulder, to dramatically state "But of course!"
I feel like I should point out two additional things about the proportion of atheists in the world:
1. Leaving Islam and openly admitting to be an atheist might result in sudden drop in life expectancy depending on where you live...
2. Since I don't know how these numbers were collected: Here in Germany if you were baptized as a child you are registered as being part of the catholic church, the protestant church etc. and you have to pay for the paperwork to leave.
Also, afaik if your parents are muslim you are registered as muslim.
I don't know about similar systems in other countries but there might be millions who are registered as being part of a religious group simply because leaving said group doesn't seem worth the effort.
so then for one to go undetected they only have to say they have a religon?
afaik its worth leaving the church because you dont have to pay church tax anymore, wasnt in any church to begin with tho
Also a large amount of people still don't have access to high school level education. And it's in high school most you learn most of the things that contradict or just doesn't really fit in with most religions. It is therefor no surprise these people are religious. And there's also the fact that populations in religious places are growing faster than in less religious places so as a % more and more people are religious but that's not because people are converting. When talking about the growth of atheism people mostly talk about the first world which has relatively low or even negative growth rates but here atheism is on the rise and rapidly in fact.
I can't see that beard on Jordan without wondering if he wears facial tissue boxes as shoes.
Anyway... mixing cunnilingus and superglue does NOT solve world hunger...
aderek79 that's not a beard. It's shit stuck to his face from whenever he opens his mouth.
anyone else notice Jordan is trying to transform into Rasputin?
Man in the Black Hat Damn it. Now I have the Boney M song playing in my head.
Man in the Black Hat I was wondering who he reminded me of!
He's balancing karma by aligning his vibrations with Charles Manson's aura
But then, who is Nicolai II?
I was thinking the same thing right when I saw that nasty unkempt goatee thing he has.
When Jordan said that part about his research, I just felt the urge to yell at him: "Dropping a gallon of acid is not research!"
Okay, look. The whole time Discount Patchman™ was on the screen I was just wondering: "Is that beard fake? Who sells that bad fake beards? Or is it real? He needs to shave."
Klobi for President thought it was just me
I had to scroll way too far down to find someone talking about the beard. What the fuck is that thing??
demonstructie I was content with Patchman, he represents how many holes the ideas have. But that beard ... Is that the price you pay for selling your soul?
+Klobi for President haha well I guess the cutesie cartoon character might have distracted some people from the insane crap that spills out of his mouth and made it seem harmless. Now however, anyone who looks at this guy and doesn't immediately realize that they're dealing with a person who's clearly very very confused is already way too far up their own new age ass.
Do scissors offend the spirit of beards or something? Does he think looking like Charles Manson gives him cult cred or what?
Jordan looks exactly like I expected him to.
I feel like asking why religions sometimes get along and sometimes don't is like asking why do cultures sometimes get along and sometimes don't.
pretty much interchangable
You have a son now? Congratulations! ... I guess? Anyways, did you and CHL time this?
How old is his son now? Marty, I apologize for being two years too late.
And here I thought for a moment that we won't be seeing Jordan ever again. What was I thinking, this is Jordan we are talking about.
He's like a turd that won't flush.
jebiga
Coolhardlogic then this?!?!
Jordon Harris I know, all my faves!
Maybe Potholer has a video coming out soon
I hope potholer54 will make more videos soon. I miss his journalist style
Yeah, CHL has said he's producing a couple more on the flatard front and I'd say we're coming to the time when Potholer will publish. His content has been getting even better in recent instalments - miss the Golden Crocoduck though, that was a damn institution. All we need is DonExodus but I wouldn't hold my breath!
@Jordon Harris
It gets better, Potholer54, uploaded as well.
Plenty of nonreligious people believe in gods or a higher power
Would they identify as non-religious when asked what their religious beliefs are?
Martymer 81 Yes. I know people who identify as non religious, but believe in a higher power.
***** I'm surprised you dont know this. It's because they don't subscribe to any religious text... or at least not strictly. They have a loose belief... they believe "something" if you know what i mean
BTW i love you and all your videos and Congrats on having a son!
I think you're trying to say that they believe there is an inteligent force/being that created the universe, but they refuse to identify their beliefs with any of the existing religions. I think that's the definition of an agnostic ;)
"Technology and advanced maths is complicated so it's BAAAADDDD... Oh spirits and magic, I can understand that so it's GOOOOOODDDD!"
So, when is he gonna twirl his moustache?
He's just stupid and/or crazy, not evil stupid
1. Congratulations on your child.
2. It's nice to see another video from you.
Jordan's knowledge of quantum physics does not equal that of ancient cultures. He knows that the term exists and can recite other terms associated with quantum physics; they didn't even know about the possibility of quantum physics, and some of them didn't know about the possibility of physics.
Does that mean Jordan knows more about it than they do? Maybe; but then again, maybe he knows *less* about it than they do; since they didn't know that quantum physics exists, they didn't get any of it wrong, whereas Jordan does (get it wrong). Is it possible to possess *negative* quantities of knowledge?
In having to sit through philosophy grad students debate evolution recently, I can confirm that negative quantities of knowledge exist.
"neo-Darwinism is dogmatic!" "evolution is a philosophic concept - not a reductive-mechanistic one!" "since Einstein, scientists have ditched the _true_ scientific method for a century!" etc. . . . I almost blew a gasket listening to that crap for 20 minutes.
actually that'd make sense
Hokon Cazalet philosophers are the worst because they never engage in practicality and attempt to define their way around problems. this is part of the reason apologists are infuriating, because they use the exact same tools as philosophers, they just have a conclusion already in mind.
however, this is an instance where we can actually define our way around this, because if we define knowledge as "accumulated data", then it is possible to have negative knowledge only if you lose accumulated data. however, by defining knowledge as "practical information", we can show that yes, negative knowledge is possible, especially when it comes to philosophers and peddlers of the faith, because they unmake practical knowledge by spreading insane bullshit.
I started choking on my drink from laughter once the clips of Patch Man getting the shit kicked out of him played
Well done
Congrats on the baby marty! As a long time fan of your stuff i just wanted to say how much i enjoy and appreciate the work you do, you deserve a much larger audience for all your hard work. Keep at it though, I'm sure your loyal fans love your videos as much as I do. Nothing makes me happier than watching another channel and seeing some of your work pop as a reference or shout-out (usually the "Of course" street fighter/ nostalgia critic bit but a few others as well) to you. I like to think of you as a genuine rock star among the skeptic community on you tube . Props to you for not getting bogged down in the SJW, identity politics and feminist stuff that nearly every other channel has lunged into (except maybe TBR, CHL, and the Living dinosaur.)You just keep on keeping on man thanks again for your videos.
sir Sawicki I was a fan of TBR until Jake told me to kill myself. Twice.
Not-yet-Dr. Zandi context needed
I was an atheist long before I even knew what that word even meant. Before that I would have counted myself non-religious, or a lapsed Hindu.
DrownedInExile We're all born atheist until we learn enough language for the indoctrination to begin.
I always said I was agnostic because all I heard about atheism here in south us was atheism was evil. Wasnt til post high school, when i began living on my own, that I learned.
Congratulations on becoming a dad 👶🙌💝!
Re the religion explanation, I grew up a child of a lapsed Anglican and an out and out atheist (as a member of the Civil Defense, he lost any remaining faith carrying out the dead bodies of children the same age as my older sisters at the Aberfan disaster). I was free to choose my own path, entered the church as I loved singing in the choir, but after the hatred spouted by so-called Christians towards women vicars I was ready to leave. Until we got our very own, very wonderful woman vicar who ministered to everyone in our country parish whether religious or not. She behaved (still is doing so there I hope - we moved parishes) exactly what Jesus described as the way he wanted his followers to act. Religious or not, believing that he is the son of God or not, it doesn't matter: she acted as one would expect a true Christian to act. Then along came the next fight. Though not personally affected, I could not stand by and desert my gay friends - or any other gay person. I had stayed to fight for women from the inside, I now left to fight for gay Christians from the outside - and still do. I try to live a Christian life (philosophically, not religiously - my faith had died by now, but being nice to people isn't a bad way to live I think). I felt a metaphorical hole in me though and allowed my Celtic genes to guide me. Always a lover of nature I felt an attachment to Paganism. However I don't go in for dressing up and visiting Stonehenge (or doing any of the other practices). So whilst still feeling that attachment, I didn't act publicly.
The first time I went into hospital after coming to terms with my feelings, I was asked if I was religious. I told them I was a lapsed Pagan. The nurse looked rather bewildered...
Btw, during all of these years I never doubted the truth of science and the only scientific spirit to me was the alcohol used in the lab. I've churned out 3 scientists and another who knows more about her children's genetic condition than most doctors. The local hospital asks her to hold Q&A sessions with med students. So religious tendencies (or even belief) and a trust in proper science aren't mutually exclusive. Look at Newton and Faraday for example.
Please carry on with these debunking videos. I have a horrible feeling that in some parts of the world, inc some of the USA's states, these will become the best portal to the scientific method and ultimately the truth. Good luck with the baby!
Videos presenting woo all seem to have roughly the same argument:
1. Quantum mechanics is very complicated and difficult to understand.
2. Therefore, magic.
Nah less than half videos about not-rationalistic beliefs use quantum mechanics as argument.
As an addendum to the "pagans begged for forgiveness from trees" thing:
Jordan should look up the Easter Island Civilization. Deforested the island completely and nearly killed themselves in the bargain, and they fit every definition of pagan I've ever heard.
That beard screams 'medicate me'.
I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the video, which is interesting because I'm one of those people who's had an experience of being at one with everything. I'm a pretty spiritual person. I enjoy challenging myself with different opinions sometimes.
The way you talk about Quantum Physics and it's misappropriation is exactly how we* feel about your understanding of consciousness. From my perspective I found it a very amusing parallel, it gave me a chuckle, I hope it was entertaining for you also, the parallel. We're all still human at the end of the day!
Happy Holidays everyone!
* I can't speak for everyone calling themselves spiritual of course but this is very much the general gist of it that I pick up.
I don't know if you still check here, but THANK YOU! I LEARNED SOMETHING! The way you explained what a Field is and how it is a function of location actually helped it make sense to me properly for the first time.
What the fuck does jordan do for a living? who is financing his hippiness?
Anyway congratulations on becoming a dad :)
He appears to have discovered that begging and trying to emotionally blackmail his audience with "now or never" claims wasn't a reliable source of income in exchange for doing nothing worthwhile. He's now set up a Patreon offering such exciting rewards as praying for you, and he wants to buy a "spirit house".
CoolHardLogic seems like an easy life, i need to make my own cult too.
He probably has a machine that converts free energy into free money. Or maybe he stole it from Thoth. Who knows?
he prays to Thoth every night and money appears under his pillow
Whats the exchange rate for torus energy to USD at right now? I've channeled most of my savings from my head chakra through my ass chakra into a my savings account years ago.
How is it possible that Jordan is even less credible as a flesh and blood person that he is as a cartoon character with a micky mouse voice?
hey Martymer, would you consider making a video about chemtrails? I know that there are a lot of videos debunking the theory, nevertheless, I would still enjoy watching you debunk it. :D
20 years form now, Martymer 81, all being well, your son will be very proud of his father.
Fuck yeah!!! It's been a while since I've seen one of these. Always hyped when Marty puts something out...but a WDPLaSS? I'm going to need some snacks.
I'm two weeks late but OUR BOY IS BACK!
Grats on fatherhood
Everyone is saying what I was going to comment, lol. But I'll say it anyway. Congratulations on your new baby, and it's pretty great that CHL and Marty upload new vids a day apart. Happy days :)
What the hell? Seriously? I think the shit Jordan spews is starting to stick to his face. I mean that definitely isn't an actual beard.
Yes Marty "the more I research" he means the more DMT he ingests
Congratulations to fatherhood Marty :)
Well, Jordan hasn´t changed a bit (apart for the guru-look-alike beard), still constantly twisting, omitting and lying about facts as per usual, and this is just an introduction.
I´ll prepare the "popcorn" for his two hours of madness.
Finally, welcome back :)
3:20 That’s the biggest lie Jordan has ever told. He doesn’t want to learn a goddamned thing; he thinks he already has all the answers and he just wants to find more sources that appear to support his foregone conclusions.
You know. I wondered what Jordan looked like, what his voice sounded like when he wasn't in patchman mode.
And nine in minutes in, I see the voice isn't much deeper...
I've been waiting 11 months for this....thank you!
I didn't think Jordan could get any funnier, but then I saw his face. At 6:44 did he say something about an Institute of Heart-Math? Maybe he meant hard math, like long division or algebra.
tctheunbeliever No, heart math. I haven't looked into it but from previous examples of Jordan's beliefs I can safely assume they calculate things based on how they feel about the answer. 2+2=fish according to heart math as long as you believe hard enough.
HeartMath is a somewhat pseudoscientific organization that has some mildly out-there ideas about the heart. As far as I'm aware, little of their incoherent babblings are accepted in mainstream science.
Anase Skyrider By little, you should have meant almost none, I think.
Very excited to see more Jordan-drubbing -- though I do feel sorry that you have to go through dealing with his nonsense in order for us to enjoy the results. And let me add my congratulations on your expanding family! (Martymer 82???)
Holly shit! You're a dad now! Fucking awesome!
This gets a thumbs-up just for the birth announcement. Congrats!
By his awareness of quantum mechanics and the sub-atomic Jordan does know more about quantum mechanics than ancient cultures. In antiquity you have to go Aristotle basically naval gazing about the possibility of matter being indivisible at some incredibly small scale before you have anything resembling our modern understanding of the universe.
Why didn't this show up in my subscription feed? Damn, RUclips do your job!
New Cool Hard Logic series AND a new Why People Laugh at Spirit Science?? CHRISTMAS HAS COME EARLY BITCHES
Of course, Jordan doesn't know what atheism is. He can't even spell it correctly! 1:07
I've been waiting so long for another one of these Martymer, thanks!
glad to see you're back, keep them coming!!
Congratulations on becoming a dad. And thanks also for all the work you put into these entertaining and informative videos.
Congratulations on the arrival of your son!
How many have suggested that you name him Jordan so far?
Monk walks up to a food truck and orders a hotdog. Guy asks how he wants it. The monk says. "Make me one with everything."
Jordan looks like the Love Guru on purpose? Well, I'm sold now.
looks like he's growing a vag.
KEvron
Congratulations and good luck! Bringing up the new member of humanity is a big task.
I'm glad to see you back, and congratulations on the new son!
"Indoctrination, ignorance and a complete lack of curiousity", you forgot laziness, which is the main factor contributing to the success of apologists. They can count on their victims not bothering to make the effort to check if they are being lied to
Hell yeah I've missed you and these awesome videos, man.
Congrats on becoming a father Martymer! =3
And is it me, or does anyone else think that Jordon's just doing this style of video because he no longer has an animator under his sway/employ?
That's a pretty cool wizard beard though.
I think Jordan is getting a god complex, it makes sense that he has shed the cartoon image.
man, that WWE clip of patchman being beaten up brings back fond memories of Jermania.
Thank you so much for these videos. As a science groupie I am very concerned about this resurgence of ignorance happening all around us. These videos don't only point out the idiotic insanity and warped world view of wee Jordan here. They also show how to wade through the ever deepening B.S being propagated throughout society these days. Again thank you and keep it up.
Wasn't expecting to see this when I got off work, thank you for making me day :)
1. Congratulations on the birth of your youngin!
2. Outstanding video! It's at least as good as all your others on debunking "spirit" anything.
Why in the hell do they always look the same? What is it about taking too many drugs and thinking that every fan fiction is real that turns you into the same hippie looking basement dweller?
+Martymer congratulations on your son, i hope you are very happy and both of you live a long time. :)
Just found this series, love it man! Gets better every time
Congratulations, Marty! I hope your son grows up to be even a better, smarter version of you.
i haven't even watched this video yet and im sooooo.. exited. i love martymer and all his content!!
and after watching the video i love him more every time!!!
I'm not sure what I expected Jordan to look like, but it wasn't THAT...
You should name your son Jordan.
congrats on your new family!
These people never seem to understand they define practically any 3 syllable physics word incorrectly. Nice video
Woo, new Marty video!
also
Congratulations on the wee'un!
Jordan’s catching up with ancient cultures understandings of the world so he thinks the world is also catching up with itself
Congratulations on the new family member!
ah Marty you've done it again! 😀 See CoolHardLogic uploaded a new vid! The montage of face palms had me in stitch! I see you had a little cameo role too! Congrats on baby too !! 😀
Congrats on becoming a dad, Mortimer :)
When I first read the text on the thumbnail, I thought it said "Quantum Autism" haha
If more Jordan = more Martymer I won't complain too loudly
Another great video. love this series. keep it up.
"Absolutely Dick" Thx for the laughs Marty
Congratulations on the Mini Martymer.
Could you picture a Roman soldier begging forgiveness from the tree he was about to cut down in order to crucify someone? No? Neither can I.
Did anyone else catch when he said Physics is more logical than his woo? Nice Jordan.
0:34 Why does the collective mind look like a walnut?
I thought it was a shit of somebody who desperately needs to increase their fiber intake.
The "non-religious" in the pie chart should be what I have known as "Weak atheist" who has no belief that god exists (which is the default stance since birth), as opposed to "Strong atheist" ("Atheist" in the pie chart) who has a positive belief that god doesn't exist.
congratulations dude mini martimur for the win
How can you say atheist and non-religious are the same thing? You can be non-religious and still believe in God. Deism, open Theism, etc.
at 1:38, I think the youtuber, Arcana, as the best definition for religion: He says that you need 2 things to be religious
1. a concept of the divine
2. rituals and prractices that a group needs to observe based on this concept of the divine.
If you have #1 without #2, it is not a religion. The individual only has a spirituality.
With this definition, the non religious group can have a spirituality but not be religious. We usually call this peopel agnostic.
What the hell is on his face??? Does Jorturd own a mirror?😂😂😂
I have this feeling that by now most people do no longer LAUGH at Spirit science but rather do something like groan painfully and facepalm themselves to unconsciousness... Or at least until the oven mittens have worn off...
Congratulations, Daddy.
One new dad to another, Congrats!
3:01 Or in his case drugs, and lots of them.
Also can't help but wonder at what nefarious and machiavellian plot he's hiding behind that villainous beard.
You're back!
Oh, you've had a son? Congratulations, Martymer!
Congrats in bringing a tiny hellspawn into the universe
Congratulations on becoming a father, Martymer!
