- Hey, Thanks for taking the time to watch our videos, We have been noticing a lot of people wondering if it can be done to there vehicles. RUclips wont tell us when people comment anymore so visit www.wesleysyard.weebly.com and find the contact us and fill that out and we will get you the information you need.
The truck in the video is a 2003 dodge ram 1500 4X4. Wendy explaining how to lift the front end of a truck 2 or more inches for free using the torsion bars. Make sure to equally tighten the bolts so the truck sits level. Tightening the torsion bars can make them more susceptible to breaking when stress is put on them so make sure you dont tighten these bolts to much. This method of lifting might also cause damage to your CV joints over time due to the increased angle.
If you want to lift your truck the "right way" a lift kit is recommended. Хобби
Just because this isn't how everyone adjusts there suspension doesn't make it wrong. The young man's using ingenuity to make his truck the way he wants it. I don't see a damn thing wrong with it.
well by golly
well by golly
ingenuity lol your an idiot
so what kind of ingenuity is he using. Lol oh I see the ingenuity of using a socket in Ratchet & tournament is that what you call ingenuity you're an idiot. anybody out there wanting to lift their truck have someone who knows what they're doing do not do this all it does is put stress on other parts that I end up with collapsing and breaking not to mention messing up your tires due to it an adequate alignment
+Mike McCaulley you're
Trucks that use torsion bars as springs in the front, also use a large jounce bumper mounted between the frame and the lower A arm to make the torsion bars feel more like a standard coil spring. Torison bars are not linear in their twisting force, so when you crank on the keys, make sure you move the jounce bumper down, so it contacts the lower A arm.
4:28 you can hear the truck is in agony
😂😂😂 lmao
+Slappy Fistwad your comment made my day fam
Abdulla Osama :-)
It's a rooster
Lmao
Torsion bars aren't meant for getting your truck leveled or squatted after installing a leveling kit. I've heard of guys cranking their t-bars up wanting to cheaply level their truck, then when they start doing some heavy offroading, they end up with a snapped bar. The reason t-bars are adjustable is because over time and after taking many corners, they start to fatige a little. The only time you should mess with them is if the front end is starting to sag some and you need to bring it back to proper.
Yes. just make sure you don't loosen them too much. have at least 3 or 4 threads in the bolt holes.
yes Conner. I need another 1" for my toy and used that. Do not exceed 2" or it collapse. I'd recommend a proper susp lift/body lift before SPIT doing SPIT the SPIT torsion SPIT bar thang SPIT...SPIT.
watching this vid, the phrase "Don't shit where you eat" comes to mind.
Spits on ground, Lies on ground. Once on ground...spits on ground be lied upon.
did anyone else hear the turbo chicken at the end??!?
Great dollar store tape 6 1/4. No wait 8 1/2 lol this video made my day thank you. Keep em coming
If this video isn't one of the best endorsements for birth control I don't know what is!
LMFAOOOO your comment made me choke!! Funny ass shit.
+jusgettingbuy1 lmfao

Random scream at 4:27 is a rooster. Damn city folk.
exactly
This guy is rolling around in his spit... LMFAO
Ricardo Mark exactly what I was thinking...well,worse,in his dip spit
Ricardo Mark I'm a carpenter "&! I quit a job because with the boss chew tobacco "&! spit all over everywhere...dat shit it's just nasty
Ha ha yeah he is
it will put more stress on the bars and make them easier to break
I would highly recommend lifting the front end of your truck up with a jack then placing jack stands underneath, this will unload the stress on the torsion bars and you have less of a chance of the bolt giving out and blasting down like a bullet. I'm a Senior in high school and am taking Auto Technology classes and my instructor does not have an index finger on his right hand from doing this and the bolt giving out!
thank you! did mine today and got an inch and a half. no alignment needed.. looks great!! thanks!!
Either a rooster or his truck screamed "help" at the end lol
I'm leaning more twords the truck.
Did this when I was a kid.. And the truck will ride like there is NO FRONT END SUSPENSION... Knock yer fillings out on bumps.. LOL
question, do I have to spit every time I do something on my truck? thanks for your time!!!
No but it helps
never trust a guy with a pontiac cap on to work on a mopar
lmao😂😂
MontrealMan1970 never trust a Canadian concerned about American cars and trucks.
Never trust the internet, or a guy with red hair. Especially never trust a guy with red hair on the internet!
Yes this will put more stress on the front end, especially the CV joints and the torsion bars them selves but the damage will not happen right away, unless you over do it and turn the torsion bars bolts to many times.
You can get 6 full rotations of the T-Bar without damaging your truck, any more and it can cause unnecessary wear. 6 rotations will level out the front of your truck by 1.5", or 24 quarter turns. Afterwards, you may need an alignment, but you can testify this by driving around, mainly on bumpy roads/dirt paths without any mud. Also, a floor jack will help out with the process of cranking the torsion bar on the front.
Patient zero at 4:28! haha
I did this on my sierra got it up a couple inches it looked great but steering was super twitchy and not a comfortable driver after that but I lived with it .. Fast forward 10 months later my front end began to clunk it was cv joint failed and chewed up the splines of my drive axle . Not worth it guys . Cranking the torsians will screw up the front end resulting in hundreds in repairs
That must be nice driving down the road bouncing like crazy
Alot of people like to complain in the comments about how it will ride rough...you want your truck to ride like a cadillac? ever thought of maybe buying one then instead of a truck?
no because it's a truck it must ride like crap....we live in modern times,,not the stone age
siew ramochan a truck is for hauling, rock crawling, musding ect. i have no care in the world if it rides bad.
You'll also need a wheel alignment done after doing this.
Ive done this on almost every old truck I had. For me I dont notice any difference in the ride but I suppose if I cared about a smooth ride id get a caddy or buick not a truck. And how smooth can off roading really be? My chevy I drove like that for years and didnt have to change anything other than basic wear n tear.
Mike Rainer does it drive like shit? I would like to do this to my truck but I don’t want to mess up the smooth ride
this does work and ive done it many times to my trucks over the last ten years it will go higher than 2 inches however if you do go higher than 2 inches it will be very hard on your ball joints,if you stay within gd range you WILL NOT screw up your alignment so for you hero's that think it will think again .. furthermore when doing this take the weight off the front end of your truck bolts turn easier and less chance of fucking them up dont learn the hard way leave that shit for me
Thank you! These people are idiots! My dad and I have been doing this for a while! We haven't had one problem!
Chase Grubbs
couldnt agree more! as long as u tighten them the same amount and dont go over 2 in u will be fine my gmc rides just fine!
darce dick how many turns to go 2inchs
he's right, I raised my ZR2 about 2.5 inches and never re-alighned the front and everything is perfect, no signs of tire wear after 20,000 miles ,mostly freeway miles
trucks come lower in the front so this levels it out. to but if you still want to lift the back the cheap way is to get blocks that go between your axle and leaf springs
All good until I heard a man yell in the background at the end of the vid...?
Sounded like a goat.
SuperPersianLord it was lmao
it was his sister getting poked by her uncle
+Mike McCaulley lmao
Thanks for taking the time and trying to help some people out.
The only thing this video is missing is banjo music.
Would it be funny to know he also knows how to play the banjo.
yes. anything with torsion bars, you can do this.
@S4NCHEZ93 If it has torsion bars it will work.
What the hell was that scream
People - if you don't want to beat the crap out of your other suspension parts DO NOT do what this guy did. Changing the ride height this way over-tensions the torsion bars and will kill your ball joints pretty quickly - and you might end up breaking a torsion bar too. Get a leveling kit for the front, which is just a new key that lets you keep the torsion bar under the recommended tension while setting the rake higher on the front. This video is an example of "stupid is as stupid does."
We did this to 97 chevy half ton to give it two inches. The back is usually high enough already. All we are doing is making them the same height. We were able to fit 33 inch tires on the chevy.I would guess it depends on how high your truck is now if it is able to put 33 inch tires on after an extra 2 inches to it.
Any lift by torsion bars or an ordered lift kit will throw off factory alignment angles. But if done evenly you will not have any pull to either side. Also my tires have not worn unevenly
It makes it alot easier to unload the suspension, and you don't fuck up the threads...hope you enjoy blown ball joints, TRE's, and idler arms just to name a few
that random scream at 4:27 is hilarious!!! LMFAO
You can't do an alignment when you tighten the torsion bars because it changes the factories preset angles. My tires have not worn unevenly and i've put 14000 miles on the truck since the tightening.
form my experiences it wears out the fornt end faster and if you do that you probly need to get the alinement checked cause it messes with the camber.
Stock torsion bars. Make sure not to tighten them all the way because they would break eventually. Just enough turns to make it 2 inches and no further.
was i the only one that caught this yell? 4:28 lol or was that a goat.
This will work but they arent meant to be tightened that far. He knows what he's talking about and for the lifted look this works great, but to safely do it you need aftermarket torsion bars that are meant to lift it that far without being cranked above specs.
It's easier to tighten the torsion bars if you take the weight off the front of the truck.
You should make a mark on the bolt head and one on the frame then count how many times you make the lines parallel with each other, and both front tires should be off the ground while doing this, after your done, drive the truck to settle the suspension, then afterwards get an alignment done...
.
Merrie-Merrie
Aren't you supposed to take the load or the front end prior to tightening down the torsion keys???
not necessarily. when you tighten them it twists the bars. this means they twist less when hitting bumps. if you tighten them too tight and hit a big bump or something it will twist it too much and make them snap. this is why you only tighten till you get two inches.
"Idk if i should be impressed by that quick lift or scared for that rape scream at the end" - fzonum88
I just about shat myself!!! I've been in tears for 10 minutes now! Best comment ever!
You Can Lower it but be sure to leave enough threads screwed in so the bolt doesn't fall out.
i have a job, but i live on my own, so there for cant afford to pay for a lift kit... this was helpful
And this, ladies and gentleman, is how to stress your torsion bars on a truck that is notoriously rusty. If you like replacing expensive parts, do this.
He must have spit at least a damn gallon throughout this video
+bwe95 dip.
Spitting dip.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Turn your torsion bars up get longer shocks then you will get your stock ride back its not that hard on your front end if you do it right and get longer shocks and get a front end alignment cranking your tbars up will throw your alignment off
"torsion bars" *spit*
If you ain't spitin and there ain't a rooster in the back ground then your no backyard mechanician for the record if you want to spend a a lot of work and money hell yeah crank them torsion bars
Sense the making of this video, nothing has been damaged to the truck because of cranking the bars up. Everyone makes it seem like the wear and tear will happen right away. it doesn't, though it speeds up some of the wear and tear on the front end, dont expect it right away.
no the tj has coil's in the front go to autozone and they sell coil spacer. that will give you 2in of lift for $10 per same with vip
Remember when raising or lowering this way to leave enough behind for suspension travel. If you wind to far your truck will just sit rigid.
Thanks for the touch of comedy.
Anything above two inches can severely wear your cv shafts, and put too much tension on the torsion bars. I would not recommend going over two inches.
well first he is right it does works it call Torsion Bar Key or ready lift kit ''for'' ''some'' and you could lifted 3 inch max ,but is not recommended more then 2 inch just like you said wesley it is recommended all so to rebaleines tire if nead so, more then 2 inch is hard on the balljoints and RIP for your dady ''people today dont know what respect is''
It can. Mine didn't. My tires wear normally and my alignment isn't out of wack. Don't tighten them too much or you will snap a Torsion bar when hitting big bumps.
@sirtubemaster normally they come with a 1 to 2 inch downrake in the front so tightening up the torsion bars will set it pretty much even....i got a 99 chevy silverado, i added a 3 inch body and when i tightened my torsion bars it still sits about a quarter inch lower than the back
Thanks for the video , I'm going to try it tomorrow morning . I'm stoked ! Will this work on a Chevy trailblazer a 08 ?
, you didn't check your tire air pressure and you should measure from the ground to the fender, on a concrete slab, preferably.
For the people wondering if its the same on the Chevy. We just posted a video showing it on a Chevy Silverado. its a video responce to this.
yes it's a mopar. It has torsion bars
@sirtubemaster On a lot of trucks the front end sits lower than the rear. This levels it out and gives the whole truck a more even look.
Thank you I appreciate it
First line if video was perfect.
Remember to mark the socket so you make exactly the same amount of turns. that'll stop it handling like a pig from miss alignment. measure from the top of the wheel arch to the center bearing to make sure both sides are even on level ground.
If you do that then you have to get the front end realigned
HAHA the Shermanator!
I like how my stock f150 has 9 inches between my fender and tire.
Cool video hardy har har. Now back to people who know what they are doing.
that would be the best way. this is just for people with no extra money for it.
sounds alright to me I put the 1 1/2 inch leveling kit on my 2011 ram 1500 but it really didn't do to much so I might do a couple turns just to get it up a little bit more but it really doesn't matter considering the a arms rub on anything bigger than a 31.6 inch tire. Unless you get a rim with good backspacing or spacers which are frowned upon also by many wheel and tire dealers ive talked to. face it if your messin with anything suspension or power there is a chance something could go wrong!
easiest was to lift the front but it's not cheap when you start blowing through ball joints
Been driving a 1999 Silverado for a long time now with torsion bar bolts turned all way through cross member. Haven't replaced anything yet.
We made a similar video on lifting a 99 Chevy Silverado. Been driving it for 7 years now and the only problem I've had is with the tire wear pattern on the front.
01 ext cab 4wd raising the front end by the torsion bar .after raising it should I have the front end lined up
what about the rear now? so two in front and nothing in back? sorta a backwards rake look? why would you do that?
When you crank the torsion bars you
End up fucking up your front suspension. Do it right and get indexed keys if you want to level it.
Wheel Alignment needs to be done after. Otherwise good by tires !!!!
@SMagdaleno4600 you should be able to. As long as the s10 has torsion bars
Not all trucks have the same thing I don't have tortion bar on my F150.
I need to lift my truck to clear 33s.. Got it with 33s and they don't clear but they got good tread.. But don't wanna buy a lift kit
I wonder If I can just crank one side a little to fix my "Silverado Lean"..
i was asking because my dad said if you crank it up it messes up suspension
how do you adjust the angle of the tire afterwards which way to turn the upper control arm bolts?
"Here's a problem every man has; you want another two inches?.... on your truck...."
Still Drives straight as an arrow and has zero abnormal tire wear after about a year now.
who died at the 4:29 mark u hear a scream in the background XD
Sure, lemme know how your tires wear after you crank the torsion bars. You def need an alignment after this
The only problem is now you have to re align your tires and rotate
Forget that comment ... I see that you mention this after the fact...
that wasn't a chicken. that was our friend Ben.
The back gets lifted up a little but this mainly levels it
