That's a sick idea
That would be sick
Agreed.
no actually he should cut out the exhaust and re run the pipe to go inside the cabin from underneath the floor from a hole, i'm sure mike would love the smell and taste of that while he drives, seeing as he is a car guy and all haha
Right through the frame? Or under the frame then back up to hole? Lol

Thanks buddy

Thanks bro

I cut my muffler and got a borla welded on
I'm going to cut off the exhaust off my Honda then put a butterfly valve that way I can still have a stock exhaust but it can be loud if I want to
My brother in law convinced me too a couple months back 😂 it was worth it honestly to broke to get anything ran right now parents won’t pay for it and I’m in high school lol

Yeah that fits the cheap build theme.. roflmao Go to a pro prerunner channel to watch real mechanics do those kind of skilled builds

not many LT kits for the obs. I say sfa, quicker and cheaper.
FixItNick I literally said this on the first vid when he bought the truck
Your supposed to jack up the front end of the vehicle before messing with the torsion bolts to keep from stripping them out or breaking them.
What ever happened to continuing the wall of license plates?!
I still have em! Need to get them up
That's what I call a 20 foot paint job. From 20 feet away it looks great. Can't wait to see a lift kit and put better tires on it
The rear ending he received inspired him to lift himself to new heights. Psalm 717. 😂😂😂😂😂
Wood block body spacers sound sketchy but my dad used to have only a wood spacer kit on his blazer and it worked really well for clearance. He ran 37s without rubbing by buying a 2x4 from lowes. Also its CHEAP.
Just don’t spend more on wheels than what you bought the vehicle for😂
Bluefox 336 but some sick wheels would be better. Plus he could always just throw them on the Duramax after 😂 even tho I love the wheels the Duramax has
I bought one off a family member for $400 so i guess im not getting wheels
I think he finally figured out that people like to see projects that they can afford...
@@WopJr The Duramax has 8 lug wheels and the Blazer/Tahoe has 6 lug...so he couldn't use them for the Duramax.
@@WopJr you can't just put 6 lug rims on an 8 lug truck. You can buy a spacer adapter but that's silly
Thank you mike for doing a build like this my first truck was 94 z71 biggest POS ever but I loved it. It just gives us kids something to relate to because some of us may drive something like that forever and never get to own a McLaren or a Duramax!!!

Garrett BigBear it sounds great, what you mean man😂 everything I got is straight piped or has an aftermarket exhaust on it though so that’s my style I guess

I found your videos and recognized you bc Ive trick-or-treated in your neighborhood. (Im not a creeper. You wont need the security system for me. Lol. It was just neat to see and recognize the area.) Love the vehicles. I like how you DIY many of your mods. Ive been modifying my Ram 1500. I debadged, added a magnaflow exhaust, new cool air intake (tweaked where air enters it) , high performance ignition coils, added camo racing stripes, new rims and all terrain tires, cab spoiler, airtabs, 30” LED bar, and just ordered a new front grille. Its addictive!!!
Crazy how a $1500 blazer can bring way more views than a McLaren.
More relatable for more people
That’s because nobody cares about a McLaren.
I gotta say I love this so much.. i have a 92 full size blazer (way better condition 91k on odo) and its fun seeing what you can do to these bad boys. Specially cause these videos may spark a new idea for me with my blazer!
MAKE IT BUDGET BUILD THEN RE BUILD IT UN BUDGET
That's what i'm thinkin...
Street Speed 717 great idea
I agree
I agree
Street Speed 717 eventually I’d live to see it on a 6” lift and some 35” boggers just because old school😎 it would be sick as hell.
My favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned was my old 2 door “00”Tahoe Z71. It had the vortec 5.7L, 6” lift on 35’s. I added some headers and true duals with race series flow masters. It was so reliable and fun.

Hey Mike, have you ever heard the expression that a little knowledge is dangerous? Well that saying fits this video perfectly. Let's start with the exhaust. You should never vent your exhaust under a vehicle for a reason. The carbon monoxide fumes can rise up through the floor and dangerously fill the cab.... But you will probably be OK and not run into any issues with that...
Now for the suspension. The worst thing you could ever have done was touch those keys. The stock keys are not meant to raise the truck that much. You will destroy the ride characteristics of the vehicle and it will ride extremely harsh. The way you did it was wrong too. You are supposed to put the truck on a lift or use a jack to raise the wheels off the ground to relieve tension on those torsion bars before you start cranking on those bolts. You could have easily stripped the threads and caused yourself a very big headache. You are also supposed to count the revolutions of the bolt and make the same amount of turns on each side to keep it level. You should do a little at a time and then drive the truck a bit to let the torsion bars settle in. There is a limit to how far you can raise the front end, especially on a GM truck. You will notice on some GM trucks, under the upper control arms there is a bump stop that is part of the upper control arm that limits the down travel of the upper control arm. The more you raise the front of the truck, the steeper the upper control arm angles downward, and the closer the control arm gets to the bump stop.
if you do not leave enough room between the bump stops your truck will ride like a solid brick.
At the very minimum you should be able to get your thumb inbetween the bottom of the upper control arm and the bump stop. Do not decrease that space any less. This way you will still have enough travel to give you a halfway decent ride. While you can decrease this distance even more to lift the truck higher, your ride quality will suffer dramatically.
Like I said above, Always do a little at a time and with the wheels raised off the ground. Then measure, adjust, cycle the suspension by driving it, then measure again and repeat until you achieve the max ride height you want while still keeping it level side to side.
You will probably notice that even after you are done that over time the suspension will settle even more and you may need to make minor adjustments.
One last thing and this is extremely important... Keep a very close eye on all your suspension parts for wear. Especially your half shafts, your ball joints and your wheel bearing... In a regular car it is much easier to detect from driving if these parts are worn. But with large trucks like these it can be very difficult to tell that these parts are worn by just driving. You will need to visually and manually inspect the parts to make sure they are secure and safe to drive. I have seen wheels ready to fall off a truck and the owner either had no clue or only minor indication that something was wrong. And these were people with basic mechanical skills like yourself.
If you must, the best way to lift these trucks is by using a good brand name kit that comes with aftermarket control arms to keep the suspension geometry as close to neutral as possible. Good luck, and stay safe.
Wow my English teacher read this an said this was a 10/10 paper man
You sound fun to hang out with.
He wrong cause I got a GMC yukon and I did the same
Exhaust was installed by a RUclips mechanic. Zip ties, I'm surprised I didn't see any duct tape anywhere. Crackles and pops, no tune required!
I was surprised to hear crackles and pops from the truck!
Make sure to order a spacer for the rear so it can stick out as much as the front because those years the front stick out like 1 inch or more then the rear
I love how it went from you trying to take off the valiance properly to you"re saws-all haha
Mike, you should run that exhaust either out the back or out the side on an SUV. I know you’re a smart guy, but you really don’t want exhaust gases in your cabin. I’m excited to see the rest of this build.
Here for the best 1500 investment you ever made SS717
Considering his background is finance that's unlikely, also, his gopro was probably his best investment
You're supposed to drive it after messing with the bars to settle them it actually raise another half inch or more after driving it
if mike didn’t sell the “old” duramax wheels he needs to get those on
8 lug sadly buddy-

I’ve had a SimpliSafe system for 5 years. Love it.
This series is awesome. Thank you Mike for making content that’s super relatable and easy to do!
Seeing you have fun with the Tahoe was the final straw that made me give in to buying a bigger truck. I've been thinking about going bigger for a while now. I love my little S10 Blazer, but I finally came to the conclusion there was just no getting around the fact that I couldn't make it what I wanted it to be even if I threw money at it. Even a v8 swap would have been a pain in the ass, possible, but a big project, and it still wouldn't have been ideal for towing with it's size, weight, axles, and brakes. I just bought a 97 Suburban "1500" 6.5TD, it's a beast, the S10 Blazer looks tiny next to it, especially from the front.
The binford t-shirt is on point
Mike i'm glad you took my advice so that no exhaust get's inside the truck, your welcome.
Thats the best sounding V6 i've ever seen
had a 98 silverado that had cranked keys and 33. The front end on that thing is about to be suuuuuuper stiff. Lift keys get the same lift but doesnt make the front near as stiff. Definitely will be able to fit wide 33s now. Watching this makes me miss my truck so bad :((
“Oh yeah, that one we might have to.... well??....” *cuts to mike beating the shit out of it*
Those down tips are gonna make a big difference. I'm so excited about this.....it's taking me back to High School when a lifted 90's Chevy was the shit!!
This is totally the way i do everything...half assing it for life
Mike, for bigger tires for cheap and with good CV angles, consider cutout flares or an "extra large fender mod" (cut a pie shaped section from behind the wheel opening, bend back and weld).
Dentside Ford Bronco project? That truck will triple in value in the next 5 years.
Looked like an f250 not a bronco
@@karlhopkins713 I didn't say it was a bronco. Just that that generation Bronco would make a fantastic investment. Though Mike would ruin it with some 16" wide 33s lol. Mike is actually Mexican guys.
Him and stradman getting that simpli safe ad on the same day
You can fit 285/75R16 tires under it without any lift. I've had them on my '99 K5 for 10+ years. Might just have to crank the bars up a bit. They'll give you a meaner look with them being tucked into the wheel wells and plenty of ground clearance for normal off roading
Drives out of garage breaks teeth on first bump
Lol, we both have clearly tried this !
Don't forget how fucked the alignment is now lol
I bought my truck like that . Much better once I lowered it again
All these other shops make it look so hard to fix rust... I like your method best!
Ive heard that you need to jack the truck up to safely adjust those bolts as you could snap them, is that right?
Douglas Whitfield yes. That’s definitely safer than what he did. The bolts could snap, or the weight of the truck could snap something in the suspension setup if the weight is on the bars while cranking them. Super sketchy what he did. Do not recommend. Jack stands on the frame always.
Not to mention they turn so much easier when there's no load on them.
Douglas Whitfield yes it’s true
Don't forget how fucked up ur alignment is when ur done LMAO
EAST SIDE313 mine are maxed in my 01 2500hd and the alignment is still perfect plus I’m now able to run 35s with out rubbing any
Mike, You could easily solid axle swap that tahoe with leafs be cheaper then purchasing a lift kit for cv axle
Cranking the keys is gonna make it ride like a brick
I know
And fuck the alignment right up LMAO
i was able to crank my front keys and add a two in block in the rear to fit 16x8 0 offset 285/75/R16's (basically a 33.) I just need to take off the bumper trim in the corners between the fender and bumper. They were rubbing on full lock. Once I took them off I had no rubbing on road driving or off road crawling. It was only under heavy suspension compression I got a little rubbage. I also added kyb shocks (2" longer) to make things stable. CHEAP AND AWESOME SETUP.
You should always have the vehicle off the ground when working with the Torsion bar I personally had the bolt snap from to much pressure and the bar came down and slammed into my elbow resulting in a fractured elbow.
Thanks for the heads up

If they don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy- Red Green
Mike is so proud of the price he paid for the truck that he put the price on the badges on the side of the truck
Jorge Almaguer nice
You're supposed to Jack the vehicle up first and then count the rotations
If you have less than an inch difference in height between sides, check your tire pressure on both sides.
Jack the truck up next time you turn the torsion keys,be alot easier, won't fight it as much
Too bad the alignment will be fucked when ur done lol genius..
Huge fan of the obs life, I have tried to run 33 12.5 15 on 10.5 in deep dish wheels on my 98 suburban and even turned up keys they rubbed the fender wells and bumper when turning, depending on offset of your rim you will have to do extra to lift it than keys. I have a 2 inch lift but running a modest 31.5 inch tire and havent tryed 33s again. From reading online 3 inch to 4 inch lift should be more than enough for 33s to fit and turn
A real professional would've cover the hole with black duct tape, but that's none of my business...
Nah just need some spray foam and bondo
Front tire is low by like 4 or 5 psi. Add an inch to total diameter and there is your geometry, could be .5 though. Tires and proper air pressure makes a difference.
