This is thorough, biblical level, instruction on jacking up a vehicle. I’ve subbed; saved to my playlist; and deleted any other videos I’ve saved on jacking up a vehicle because they simply do not compare….You’re saving lives with this.. Thanks for posting it!
Wow....I should hire you as my publicist! Thank you for your kind words, it's pretty awesome to hear back from people, especially when so much work is put into these videos to try to make them as good as possible. Thanks for the sub and if you deem me worthy, I would really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks again, cheers!
I never thought of it that way but yeah I guess I do. I usually try to make my video from a point of being respectful and teaching in such a way that people will be interested and it is easy to understand. All of the little things that I know from experience go a long way to helping people be successful. If you deem me worthy I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for your kind words and welcome to the channel!
This comment is a very well said description of the video. I do agree though. Lots of videos will say stuff like "lift on the unibody" then never show where it is
Thanks bruh! I tried very hard to include everything you need to know and not miss anything. I was really surprised how so many professional youtuber's versions were actually missing some pretty important stuff in their videos. Thanks for the watch!
Thanks very much for this guide. Best instruction i have seen. One aspect i am interested in is whether you need any padding between the hydraulic jack and the car? (Or the jack stand and car) my hydraulic jack has a metal pad (i notice the hydraulic jack in the video has a rubber pad). Will the metal pad cause any damage to the under body? Thanks again
@@denisewallstreet7144 Most of the time not needed but it’s better to use a quality metal or rubber pinch weld adapter when lifting from the weld. Sometimes they bend.
Best advice my dad gave me about hydraulic floor jack is : "Use them to lift the car/truck but never trust them to keep it lifted". Just stumbled on this channel, this is a pretty good guide on floor jack usage.
Yup...no one. I spent a lot of time figuring out what I wanted in this video so it was the best instructional video I could make. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Awesome, thanks for the kind words! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for your support and welcome to the channel!
You do not believe how nice it is that someone is being so detailed about what a frame rail is. I recently acquired a 98 Dodge Dakota that I'm working on getting fixed up for state inspection and everyone was telling me to use the frame rail. But, I had no idea what that was. THANK YOU for explaining that for newer cars and cars with older bodies!
No worries, glad I could help ya out. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks in advance!
This is the best video on jacking a car I've seen. Nobody ever mentions chocks on both sides of the wheels or lowering the jack handle so it doesn't hit the bumper. Excellent work. Subscribed.
Thank you very much, these videos are an insane amount of work to film and edit so I can make the best video I can for people out there so I really appreciate the praise. If you got something out of this video or I was able to help you out, I would really love a share out on your social media so I can help even more people. Thanks for the watch and the sub bruh. Cheers!
This is probably one of the best videos on the internet on how to use a jack, where to on a car. This is the kind of video I’ve been trying to find the last view weeks.
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words! I'm having trouble being found on RUclips because of a sea of videos out there though. Maybe you could help me out? If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
I’m actually way beyond this level of knowledge as a DIY mechanic, but I watched it anyway in case I learned something new. It was very concise, thorough, and I enjoyed the pace. I feel a beginner could really learn a lot from this video.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I like how you lifted the entire vehicle to explain WHY one should lift their vehicles using proper methods. It’s much clearer when we can see everything from underneath. Great, thorough video!
Awesome! Yeah I thought it would be a great way to show people exactly what to do so it is more memorable. Some of the big auto youtubers versions of this leave much to be desired. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Cheers!
I love how thorough and clear these videos are! And the way beginners are not made to feel ignorant - some other RUclipsrs seem to assume the viewers already know everything - while at the same time including details and subtleties that more advanced wrenchers might not have known. Definitely worthy of *way* more subs!
Thank you very much for your kind words! I'm glad you are liking the content and my teaching style! It has been a long haul to get my videos seen by people on RUclips as there are so many other videos out there. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks in advance and welcome to the channel!
50 year old lady here and you have removed all my anxiety about performing my own oil changes! After watching this, I GOT THIS. Thank you for such a thorough video!
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I appreciate the video. As much as I have jacked up my car 30+ times, watching this video has made me realize there is always information that can be learned.
Glad you liked the video Mark! Ya know, there is always more to learn and it's a part of life. The day you stop learning, is the day you start dying. I'm constantly learning and this channel has pushed me to expand a lot in the last 2 years. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the support of the channel!
I used to do mechanical training and I am in awe of your talent for a safe, thorough and excellent video. Anyone who does mechanical work would benefit from your approach and knowledge on this crucial subject. Thank You Sir!
Thanks Thomas, I really appreciate the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I do try really hard to make content that is the best I can. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
That GMC Jimmy: I have a feeling that it spent some portion of it's life in New England or the Upper Midwest - somewhere that has snow in the winter, and that they salt the roads. The frame, underbody, and suspension struts on my 22 year old Dodge pickup still look new (dirty and dusty, but no rust), because it's always been based in California and never been exposed to road salt. Very nice video: every backyard mechanic could benefit from watching this. I'd like to add one thought: a lot of new cars, especially Hybrids, EV's and PHEVs, sit VERY low to the ground - this decreases air drag and improves fuel economy - and you often run into a clearance problem with conventional floor jacks: you can't get them past the front air dam when you want to lift the front of the car; my Toyota Prius is a good example. There are two ways to deal with this: 1. if the vehicle is running, drive it up a little way onto a pair of mechanic's ramps if you have them, or a couple of chunks of 2x6 boards. These will lift the car 1-1/2", which might be just enough to allow you to get your floor jack past that air dam. 2. Use a pair of scissor jacks under those pinch points on the rocker panel that were described in this video, to lift the front of the car just enough to let your big floor jack past the air dam. Don't forget that if you do it this way, you can't just lower the car to the ground when you are done working on it, as the jack will then be trapped behind the air dam, or you might even crush or damage the air dam on the jack as the car comes down. There are also "low profile" floor jacks, sometimes marketed as "racing" jacks, that are designed to get under very low-to-the-ground vehicles, but these are usually smaller, with a lower rated capacity than "full-size" floor jacks, and they tend to be more expensive, too. Also, I'd like to mention that lifting a vehicle should always be done in a garage or car port with a flat and level concrete floor. But if your situation involves a vehicle that's not running, sitting in your back yard, that can't be moved and has to be worked on in-situ, you need to be very careful about lifting it with a jack, especially if the ground isn't bone-dry and hard-packed. The base of the floor jack and any jack stands you use will need to be solidly supported on something like concrete paving blocks, or a base pad fabricated from 2x6's at least a couple of inches thick, and with a surface area at least 3' x 3'. As soon as you set the vehicle on the jackstands, the weight might press the jackstands back down into the dirt unevenly, leading to the vehlicle falling off the stands. So don't lift a vehicle fully off the ground on jackstands in your back yard, it's really risky. Lift the front, or the rear, but leave the other two wheels on the ground.
Welcome to Canada! Home of snow and salty roads. Yeah that Jimmy had been sitting above grass for a few years before it seized a motor and was donated to the school. All of your suggestions for lowered vehicles sound good to me, I usually drive up on 2x6 boards and then jack up like in the video. Yeah every car and every location needs to be assessed in order to do the job safely. The more questionable stuff people do, the closer their getting to vehicle damage and possible injury or death. Thanks for the watch and the suggestions!
Admittedly, I was a little worried about the 23 minute length of video, but the clear thorough explanation is exactly what I was looking for. Lifting up the cars on a hoist was a great idea to get the proper view of everything.
Thank you for your kind words. I try very hard to make my videos entertaining and with all the info people need to be successful. You will find all of my videos to be much the same if not better. If you deem me worthy I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for your support and welcome to the channel!

I'm going to teach my two teenage boys how to change the engine oil and this video is PERFECT to have them learn how to lift the car on to jack stands safely. If I hadn't stumbled upon this video I would have more or less followed this procedure and my boys would have watched and learnt and same for the next time .. but the calm professionalism displayed here provides a far better example. Thank you very much.
Thanks Steven! I'm glad to be able to help you and your boys. This video is now teaching more people than I am teaching in real life so it's pretty awesome. You should check out my other videos too! Cheers!
I watched many videos on DIY auto repair, but they all assume that you know how to safely jack up your vehicle. This video covered every situation you could possibly need to know. Thank you for such an informative and clear video! I now feel confident that I can tackle repairs and maintenance safely.
Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
11:21 I was wondering why all the jacks were made to roll when lifting and was thinking of how to prevent it, seeing this video answered my concern and now I understand why it is safer to let the floor jack roll as designed, thank you so much for your in-depth explanations of how to do it.
Hey, man,I've been trying to learn, how to lift a vehicle from off the ground, for a long time. I've watch so many videos, but none of them gave me confidence to do it, like your videos. Thank you very much, for your Great, and very well detail instructions, it's a winner.😊
Awesome, glad you liked the video and my teaching style. I worked very hard to make the very best video I could do if you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
This is an excellent video tutorial on how to use a hydraulic floor jack to lift up a car......in fact the best ever on RUclips that I have seen. The only one concern I have is that for most modern Japanese front wheel drive cars that use rear torsion beam suspensions, it is clearly stated in the owner's manual that you must NOT use a jack on the rear axle. A towing hook centrally located in the rear portion of the car is the most likely spot to use the hydraulic jack. But if your car has a multi link rear suspension, then there is a strong metal structure in the rear center location that you can safely use the hydraulic jack to lift the rear of your car.
Thank you very much! Yeah it's hard to have a 100% video as every vehicle is different but referring to the owner's manual is pretty key. Yeah as long as you use the tow hook to lift and then support on rocker panel lips with jack stands, you should be good. Thanks for the watch.
Wow! Clear and concise information on safely lifting a vehicle. Using a hydraulic floor jack and jack stands with wheel chocks is now a learned operation . Thanks so much for being so explicit.
Thanks Albert! Glad you like the content and my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Welcome to the channel Albert!

EXCELLENT video! Just happened to stumble upon this preparing to 'get under it'. Been a gearhead for 50+yrs now and you're NEVER too old to learn. Btw, you're a GREAT instructor. Simple, direct, to the point. SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS! REALLY enjoyed this...tks!

I know all of this already, only watched it because the guy is the perfect teacher/pedagogue - he's thorough and very likeable - a 10/10 on the teaching how to - scale. 😊
You should be my media relations manager! Thanks for your kind words and support for the channel. You made my day! Thanks for the watch and the props. Cheers!
Excellent tutorial. You have the gift of seeing the situation from the perspective of the uninformed and thereby know what will need to be explained. Thanks for setting me up to safely rotate my wife's car tires.
Thank you very much for your kind words! I try very hard to be a good teacher and the last couple of years have been pretty rough so it is nice to hear back from people I've helped. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and the nice comment, it made my day! Cheers!
Thanks Gideon! Glad I was able to help you out. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
Best guide on RUclips. About to do my first oil change and I don't feel anxious about my first front lift after watching this video. Everyone that does their own maintenance needs to watch this... Thanks my friend 👍
That's awesome, glad you enjoyed the video! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
This is the best video on the subject on this platform! I saw few that are quite good, but yours is the best and from a professional. It answers my problem as I started working on my vehicle in a shipping container serving as a garage, which doesn't offer much space on the sides of vehicle, so lifting from the front and back is the best option, and putting the car on stable 6t jack stands. Safety first!
Awesome, thanks! I tried very hard to make the best video I could. There are a lot of big auto RUclipsrs out there that have horrible lifting a car videos. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch.
I was changing oil on my daughter’s 2016 Avalon. This was my first time didn’t have a spotter I started slow I just touched the accelerator torque was so much ran over the ramps! Folded the right control arm had beat it back in shape. I rather now just use floor jacks & stands.
Great video. After 30 years of vehicle ownership, jacking up the vehicle is still the most perilous task for me. It doesn't matter how often I do it, which isn't often anymore, I still hate doing it. These unibody cars make me feel like I'm going to punch right through the floor with either the jack or the stands. Def preferred the frame style of old, it felt more obvious where the safe points were.
Yeah I hear ya. Old frame vehicles were easier but also now are usually rusty and falling apart. I'm glad you liked the video, hopefully it helped you be more confident with lifting vehicles. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Awesome detailed information on body frames and steel structures of each vehicle. My dad's a mechanic but I never really got into working with cars until my mid 20s. I actually like working on cars now in my latter years. I think I just didn't have the patience for learning it. Not only that I hated busting my knuckles on the bolts and engine area. Especially when it was a tight spot like alternators or timing belts. It really irritated me. But when I watched my dad work in cars it was like watching a surgeon operating a patient. It was fascinating how he knew how to fix the problems. Or where the problem was. My hat goes off to all you mechanics!!!
Thank you very much for your kind words! Yeah working on cars is fun and rewarding. There's a lot more to it than most people think. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Awesome, thanks! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Kudos to you; this is invaluable information. I'm familiar with jacking up cars, but I learned some great pointers. This could save people from serious injury or even death; every person working on cars should see this! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Bruh! I agree that this is invaluable information for people working on vehicles, wanna help me out? I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can be seen in a sea of youtube videos out there. Thanks in advance and thanks for the watch! Cheers Dave!
Thank you, Emil, for this most clear and informative guide on jacking up vehicles. Your camera shots were excellent in helping to make it very clear as to what you were talking about.
You're very welcome. It's always nice to hear from subscribers as I work very hard to make the very best videos I can. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
Thanks Jay! That's very kind words, I appreciate them a lot! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch Jay!
Happy to help ya out dude! Might wanna subscribe as I am continually making new videos in a similiar format about cars, welding, and cool projects! Thanks for the watch!
This is an excellent video - it might seem basic to a lot of folk to which this is now second nature - but people forget everyone has to start from somewhere and learn something for the first time. This is incredibly detailed, explains what you're doing and most importantly why you're doing it and this will definitely have saved lives. Great stuff - new sub and liked. A +++ Thanks man
Well said Alex! Thanks for the kind words and the watch. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social network so I can help more people. It's really hard to be seen in a sea of RUclips videos out there. Thanks again for the comment, it made my day!
This is a great, very informative video, and it really explains things so the average do it yourself guy can understand and be safe. You present it in a very clear, concise way. I just wanted to mention one thing, and that is that when using a flat jack pad on the designated part of the pinch weld (rocker panel lip), if you don't use a slotted lift pad on the jack, or a hockey puck available at a sporting goods store, the pinch weld will eventually bend and become useless on many cars. Some cars have a good strong lift point, but some are barely strong enough. Thanks for this information.
Thanks, I tried really hard to make the very best video I could for my subscribers. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. I find that the only time I see a car with bent rocker panel lips is when the car has lots of rust or when someone tries to lift the entire side of the car. Otherwise I have no issues with them; however, it's not a big deal to use them. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Ive been wrenching in my garage for many years. Just having fun searching basic automotive DIY information and found your channel. You do an amazing job teaching and explaining all details to make anyone feel confident at doing work safely. New subscriber and liked. Thanks fo rtaking the time to record edit and post this material! Very helpful! 🔧👍

Wow. I've always loved cars and all sorts of mechanical tasks, but never got around to working on my own car. So I bought a two-ton floor jack, chocks and stands, but had no idea how to use them. With your help, I just became an expert! Liked, subscribed and wish you all the success in the world.
Sweet dude! Thanks for the sub and the glowing review! You're gonna love the channel Bruh, I work waaaay too hard on my videos. This is exactly what I needed to know! I’m going to attempt my first oil change today, and I’ve been afraid of getting crushed or trapped under my car. I never had anyone in my life to teach me these things, and now I’m just trying to learn at 50 years old. 🫣 Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me!
Awesome, glad I could help you out! It's awesome to keep learning and I think it's important for being happy in life. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench RUclips pretty much is my only social media. LOL. I will sure try my best to remember to get on Facebook and give your channel a shoutout within the next day or so.
Outstanding! That was masterfully done. Very thorough and detailed. Without hesitation, I’m subscribed. I wish to gain knowledge of The Way of The Wrench. Keep up the excellent work 👍
Wow! Thank you very much for the kind words. It's a lot of work to make these videos so I'm happy that people are enjoying them and getting something out of them. Welcome to the Way of the Wrench Club.....first rule of Way of the Wrench Club is that there IS a Way of the Wrench Club so if you could share out on your social media that would be amazing. Thanks for the watch and sub! Cheers!
Holy crap was that GREAT video!!! Never had a problem with body to frame vehicles but as I've gotten older I've gotten nervous on the newer vehicles. Now I have lot's of confidence on where to put the jack and will actually be jacking up my whole car to check transmission level and rotate wheels. Just wonderfully done! THANK YOU!, THANK YOU!, THANK YOU!!!!! JUST excellent!!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the video, hopefully I earned your subscription today. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Such a wonderful video. Really appreciate how thoroughly you've explained this. So nice to see what to do and what NOT to do. This is highly important for something as dangerous as lifting a vehicle. Thank you so much for this very detailed and comprehensive video
You're very welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I tried my best to make the very best jacking up a car video so it's always nice to hear from subscribers. clear, concise explanations of how, why, and why not. this really impressed me because i didn't expect to learn anything from a beginner video, but I'm very happy i did.
That's awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
Really enjoyed your explanations and demonstrations. Enjoyed watching! You make it a lot more fun than some of the people that rush through things or take for granted the little details. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the demo Levi! It's amazing how bad some of the videos are out there....lots of stuff missed or not shown properly. Thanks Danny! I tried really hard to make it the best one out there. Wanna help me make it the most popular lifting video too? If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks in advance!
Thanks Mark for the watch and praise. I'm glad you feel more confident now to lift vehicles. If you deem me worthy, I would really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people.
You just made my confidence level rise to feeling comfortable now. 04 Envoy and have to change the oil pressure sensor, and yesterday, I couldn't give myself enough room to get under it comfortable enough, as u can see in the video I just posed on my channel. I never thought it would be good enough to pull the jack out, but now I know I can lift up all 4, and I can flush my break fluid as well.. Thank you for showing us beginners like myself. So when im jacking up the front and those couple noises i heard is normal?😂
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style. This is what it's all about, getting confident and enjoying working on cars. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people feel confident. Hard to say but yes you can sometimes hear suspension squeaks when jacking up a vehicle. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!
Excellent Information, clearly understood, no music obstructing the instructions. Good camera work. Great job. Oh, and the jump at the end can be your “signature” move. 😎 Thank you.
Awesome, thanks for the watch and the praise! I worked very hard on making this the ultimate jacking up a car video out there and it is starting to get some attention which is great. You'll find that my other videos are much the same, I'm trying to make my niche as a diy youtube channel that explains things differently and shows everything you need to know to do the job right and make it memorable/enjoyable. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. I like the idea of the signature move...I don't really have a catchy saying like some famous youtubers out there. Thanks again, Cheers!
Holy crap im glad i looked this up i had a feeling i was being taught wrong by my exes dad just used the hydraulic lift and never used jack stands but id see it shifting constantly while he was under my car and told him but he’d wave me off saying he’s the mechanic and i wasn’t. THANK YOU FOR THIS VALUABLE AND LIFE SAVING VIDEO I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF I FOLLOWED HIS LESSON ❤️

Cool! It's ok to jack the car up but you still need jack stands or its not safe. I personally would never go under a car with just a scissor emergency jack, they are super cheaply made. Hello. Thank you for the video about using a hydraulic floor jack, but I will be thankful if you kindly mention how I can lift "one side (front sides,)of my ford Taurus 2005" by a hydraulic floor jack. Once again thank you.
Thank you!!!!! I have been searching all over RUclips for a video this detailed. I never jacked up a car before, but I need to know how to lift the entire car up for my at home maintenance projects. This video literally answered all of my questions.
Your very welcome Micah! Glad I was able to help ya out and you got what you needed to feel confident to do this job. If you deem me worthy, I would really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks in advance and happy wrenching!
Absolutely the best and most thorough video I've seen. Top notch. Thank you for your great explanations.. for those who have never done this, you've given us the insight to empower us. Great job!! 🏆
Thanks dude, I really appreciate the props! I tried really hard to make the best video out there for people to really learn this. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch, happy wrenching!
Thank you for your gift to explain in detail everything one needs to know about jacking up a car. I now feel very confident and may even change my brakes
Thanks Douglas! Glad you enjoyed the video and my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. I have 2 videos on how to check disk and drum brakes, start there and see if you need to replace your brakes. I will do a video on changing brakes, I just haven't had the time to yet. I'm busy building a virtual pinball cabinet right now, you should check it out. Thanks for the watch!
This was very good! All information was useful and presented without fluff. Very well put together for a practical minded fellow who just needed to learn how to do a job. Liked & subscribed. I need to go check more of your videos.

Superb content! I subscribed. Thanks to you, there are 3 types of body; unibody, body on frame, and dead body on wall. Dead body on wall, due to failed jack stand?
THIS IS THE BEST!! Thank you so much for your time sir teaching people! I just bought a Daytona 3 ton low profile jack in bright green, I haven’t even taken it out the box yet because I want to assure I use it 100% correctly on jack points. I wish there was somewhere you can tip RUclipsrs directly from this site.
Awesome, glad you found the video useful and you love my teaching style. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. I do have a Patreon link in my video descriptions ( new videos) if you would like to support my work on RUclips. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
Remember when bumpers were strong enough to lift the vehicle? Now they look like they're about to come off when you bounce the car a bit to check it's on the stands safely. Anyway, thanks for the highly informative and logically presented video. You put Scotty Kilmer's video to shame. 🙂
Lol...yeah, they don't make vehicles like they used to. Thanks Bruh, I really do try to make the best videos I can so I can really help/teach people how to do it. Yeah if only I could convince a fraction of Scotty Kilmer's fan base to watch this video it would be crazy cool to see my subscribers go through the roof. Thanks for the watch!
Haha I totally forgot about this! In my yute, instead of scissors, jacks were tall racheting affairs w a little hook that fit into a slot in the bumper. So quick and easy! You could change a flat almost w NASCAR pit crew speed
Thanks for the props! Getting lots of views on this video cause RUclips has this slotted right between Eric the Car Guy's and Chrisfix's jacking a car videos. Cheers!
Awesome, thank you for the sub! Glad you're enjoying the content and becoming a gearhead! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel. Cheers!
The most critical part of doing any work on your car. Do not skip on anything this guy says. Life or death. Get good, the best you can afford, jack and stands.
Thanks! I tried really hard to literally make the best jack up a car video out there but it is buried under everyone elses...If you deem me worthy, I would really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to Way of the Wrench! Cheers!
Thanks dude! Glad you got something out of it. If ya feel I'm worthy, I'd appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help others. Cheers and thanks for the watch!
Thanks cardo! I do honestly try my best with these videos and try to get the same quality as my in class demos. This video is even better than a demo! Cheers!
Thanks Kevin! I tried very hard to make the best video I could for this. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for your support for the channel!
I feel confident to do this now, with how much attention you have paid to the details. Thanks! BTW the sound of that floor jack handle pumping up and down faked me out into thinking my cat was throwing up.
LOL Mary! I gotta rewatch to hear the sound now! Super happy that this video helped make you feel confident to tackle this job. If you enjoyed the video and you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media as these videos are a ton of work. Thanks for the watch Mary!
REAR AXLE BEAM: I would not trust it without jackstands at the ends... If lifting from the center, that's a LOT of moment (leverage) with the weight of the car pushing down on it at the ends and you lifting up on the middle. Note that some cars have issues with these: you can search "Ford Windstar rear axle" and read all about how they shaped it as a U (in cross section) so crud and water could collect in the bottom of the U... guess what, rust, cracking, accidents, recalls. Now it's called the Ford Freestar; that should tell you something.
Yup that was mentioned in the video. You can lift the rear up off the center of the rear diff or rear axle tubes but you must put jack stands under either the rear rocker panel lips or on the rear diff/rear axle tubes as far out to the left and right as you can, just watch you don't pinch any brakes lines/abs wires. I wasn't aware of the Ford Windstar rear axle tube rust issue but if you can't lift off of there because it is too heavily rusted/weak, then the van has bigger issues than not being able to lift. Plus you're driving a Ford....Fragile On Rear Diff. LOL.
Thank you for your kind words! I tried very hard to make the absolute best jack up a car video I could so it's always nice to hear back from people. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and the sub!
@@wayofthewrench Will do - Thanks for acknowledging. Generally speaking would you agree jacking up on a vehicles subframe around the centre section is a safe bet. Any help appreciated need to service a mk3 Suzuki swift for a friend soon.
It really depends on the vehicle. Some are beefed up and are meant to do that instead of the rocker panel lips. Some are not strong enough and you might cave them in. Best bet is find an ALI lift guide to see exactly where is safe.
Thanks, I really tried to make the best how to jack up a car video I could. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the watch! If you think I'm worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media. Cheers!

Best descriptive video, I've been doing tires for 4 years. Recently upgraded put of the shop to mobile repair. I will be working on mostly super cars, so even with my experience this video is just so helpful when you feel nervous. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Antoine! Careful jacking up exotic vehicles as their lift points may be more fussy and require slightly different procedures/rubber pads/lift accessories. Good luck on your new venture!
Awesome! That's what it's all about, getting more confident and enjoying working on your car. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
This is the most thorough explanation of this process that I've found on YT. Thank you. Also included pro-tips and lots of safety that are skimmed over in other channels. You've got a new subscriber.
Thank you! I work very hard to make the best videos I can for people so it's always nice to hear from subscribers. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench I will share your channel every opportunity I get. I really only use FB and that not very often, but will definitely share whenever someone is interested in working on cars.

Went through many videos, you're the only one so far explaining the front and back lifting points clearly. And good thinking to put mention things that seem obvious like not lifting on the bumper or exhaust.
Thank you very much, I try very hard to make my videos with everything you need to know to do the job properly and yet make it entertaining too.
@@wayofthewrench Sure thing
Thanks in advance!
Definitely!
Big +1 to this. Getting into cars can be intimidating, and this kind of material is pure gold.
Treating your audience like they are intelligent but not knowledgeable is an extremely rare trait. You absolutely nailed it. Thank you sir!
I never thought of it that way but yeah I guess I do. This comment is a very well said description of the video. I do agree though. Lots of videos will say stuff like "lift on the unibody" then never show where it is
Thanks! Yeah I'm trying to teach people properly so they can learn this info for the long term. Glad you like my teaching style! Cheers!
Brilllllliant observation - thanks
Best jacking guide I've seen 👍
Yup, don't trust the hydraulics to save your life. Thanks for the watch!
Thank you man no one actually shows where you're supposed to put the jack
Yup...no one. I spent a lot of time figuring out what I wanted in this video so it was the best instructional video I could make. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench I also saw 2 other bolts on the side of the cross member. Can you lift up from those bolts if you just want to lift up one side?
I would only lift from the middle and support both sides with jack stands.
Great Teacher! Took nothing for granted... step by step, clear and detailed!
I’m actually way beyond this level of knowledge as a DIY mechanic, but I watched it anyway in case I learned something new. It was very concise, thorough, and I enjoyed the pace. I feel a beginner could really learn a lot from this video.

You sure you're a mechanic mate? I think you're telling porkies.
Huh ...not everyone had a lifting frame but a manual car Jack ! 🚀 science
I love how thorough and clear these videos are! And the way beginners are not made to feel ignorant - some other RUclipsrs seem to assume the viewers already know everything - while at the same time including details and subtleties that more advanced wrenchers might not have known. Definitely worthy of *way* more subs!

Best guide on RUclips. About to do my first oil change and I don't feel anxious about my first front lift after watching this video. Everyone that does their own maintenance needs to watch this... Thanks my friend 👍

I was changing oil on my daughter’s 2016 Avalon. This was my first time didn’t have a spotter I started slow I just touched the accelerator torque was so much ran over the ramps! Folded the right control arm had beat it back in shape. I rather now just use floor jacks & stands.
Yikes! That sucks. Yeah I'm not a car ramps kinda guy either. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I’ve been lifting vehicles since the late 1970’s but I watched this anyway, and I have to say, it is very well done. 👏🏻
I was totally unsure how to safely jack my car to remove a wheel. This information has proved priceless. Thanks!
Happy to help ya out dude! Might wanna subscribe as I am continually making new videos in a similiar format about cars, welding, and cool projects! Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench Done!
Thanks dude, cheers!

Awesome, glad you liked the video! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate a share out on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!

Very informative, I was just looking if it's OK to use the emergency scissor jack for an oil change and learned alot from your video. Thanks
If your 2005 Taurus has a cross member under the motor, then that's where you can lift. Don't forget the wheel chocks and parking brake.
Thank you!!!!! I have been searching all over RUclips for a video this detailed. I never jacked up a car before, but I need to know how to lift the entire car up for my at home maintenance projects. This video literally answered all of my questions.

LOL.
The best no BS video online for lifting a vehicle.
It took me ages to find this one. Subscribed.

Fantastic video - so thorough and indepth, you've covered everything! Great job!
