The "rival chooses the weaker starter" thing has been around for the last few generations. But at least it makes sense here, with Nemona making an entirely new team and wanting a challenge. Also, the game telling you which pokemon is coming out next and asking if you want to switch your pokemon has always been in the games. But in this game, it is no longer a togglable option
My god this is the worst review of SV yet. I was going to point out every issue I had one by one but I'm only 5 minutes in and so far most of them stem from you just straight up not paying attention.
Saying the graphics are ass is a fair criticism. But skipping all the dialogue and then complaining that you have to google what to do is not an issue with the game, it's an issue with you. Saying you want them to release a game with an option to skip all the dialogue is like saying you want a movie's director to release a version that skips all the dialogue and just shows the action scenes. You're entitled to your opinion, but damn if it's not the dumbest thing I've heard in a minute.
The game telling you which pokemon was coming next in a battle with the option to switch was always the standard since Gen 1. It could be changed in the settings to Set play but always auto-defaults to what you described in your video. That includes Ruby and Sapphire....
Choosing not to listen to the story of a pokemon game is reasonable but.... this one have pretty decent story arc. ... well, i mean, Arven have a pretty reasonable story arc.
Penny's is fine as well. Not the greatest ever, but fine. The former bully victims banding together, only to lose their way and become the bullies themselves (or at least get treated that way) is reasonably intriguing.
@thechatteringclown yeah but like all the false secrecy when its clearly penny, then being like ITS CLAVAL gotcha lmao it is penny was kinda ruining it for me. Also they really never did anything bad it was just the entire world population got spooked for no reason. It felt much more forced. Still decent for a pokemon game plot, i mostly thought Arven backstory was actually good.
"choosing not to isten to the story of a pokemon game is reasonable" no? pokemon is an rpg and all storylines in the games are equally important. this guy literally just started playing a game where its story is one of its most important aspects and then said he doesnt give a fuck about it lol
24:17 I like to imagine the floor flipped 180 degrees and all the people fell into the basement or something, but the furniture was nailed to the floor. Makes clearing the tables really easy.
It may not excuse it (god no), but the reason there seems to be a drop in quality between Legends Arceus and Scarlet/Violet is that there were two different teams within GameFreak working on the two games with very little crossover. This is how GameFreak has traditionally kept up the pace of game production, since having only one team would mean too much time between releases. In this case, it seems whichever team worked on Arceus had some combination of more time/resources, stronger vision, and/or more creative freedom. Also, it’s important to remember that SV was largely done over the course of COVID, which likely limited some of their usual production workflows. Combine that with zero flexibility on the release window from the higher-ups at The Pokemon Company and Nintendo, and… yeah 😬 To its credit, I respect the ambition in some of SV’s design choices a lot, and I did like the story too. But it is absolutely the most compromised game in the series to date, and it exposed a ton of *severe* limitations in GameFreak/The Pokemon Company’s development process. My hope is that the backlash to all this has made the companies more conscious of those and allows them to make better and healthier development decisions going forward.
Followup after finishing the rest of the video: most of your reactions and criticisms are pretty valid. Even saying you don’t care about the story and ignored it is fine, that’s your prerogative. That said, if you fully admit you’re ignoring the story and missing details as a result, it seems weird to then criticize the story for not making sense or being confusing. That seems more like a result of you skipping over the details than the story itself not making sense. Again, it’s valid if you find the story weak or uninteresting. Not saying you can’t say it’s bad or confusing. But when that perception is seemingly based on what you say at the start is an incomplete understanding of the story, some of your criticisms of the story read as unfair as a result.
It’s funny to see him complaining about being lost while at the same time complaining about the hand-holding in certain sections. Also, this game does give a lot of direction in multiple places, there’s even the option to get pointers from every nurse joy, he just… clearly didn’t read ANY text boxes? I usually like your content, like I’m subscribed and all of that, but this one’s rough buddy
Chiming in that it’s always been a feature, yeah. It might be that you had your game on Set mode instead of Switch mode for battles (Set mode disables giving you that prompt). As of SV, Set mode is gone, so there’s only Switch mode now.
The rival choosing a starter weak to yours is something they introduced in gen 7 (sun and moon) for some reason. Maybe it's to make the rival "nice" but a rival can be both nice and still know that water beats fire... I like that many characters react to you or them landing a critical hit, but I don't like the same being done for super effective hits. Why does everyone act like it's such a big deal I chose the right move when the game litteraly TELLS ME what is super effective?
@@ThroarbinGaming The option to switch pokemon when an opponent brings out a new one has been in every game since Red, Green and Blue on the Gameboy color. You have to actively go into the settings and change the game to Set mode for it to not do that.
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet really kinda held this weird position for me where I played through it, I enjoyed my time playing it throughout the whole game (weird design choices aside), I actually tried to fill out the base-game pokedex because I wanted to get that shiny charm for once, but when I was done I never wanted to play it again - and for a game that usually encourages replayability, that's kind of a death sentence.

I support your notion on how great Arceus was. I LOVED Arceus. As a shiny hunter it was very pleasing to fly around the map and hear the shinnies arrive. Scarlet and violet had a great idea of auto battling wnd changing a pokemon type seemed cool, however it did stray alot of what made arceus good. The spawning of pokemon seemed weird, overworld shinnies had no noise or indicator (doesnt sound bad at first but if you dont know the shiny you may not ever catch it) and the graphics went a bit downhill in comparison. I did still like the game, never been so attached to a legendary before, but it definitely didnt wow me like arceus did. Cannot wait for legends Z-A! I hope they continue upon what good came from scarlet and violet and use it as an add on from what made arceus great!

even though the game has some graphical issues it's still a fun game to play. why else would i complete the pokedex twice? obviously expect better from game freak but a lot of people write the game off based solely on face value looking at some of the issues. the story is fine too if you actually pay attention to it. best comparison i can think of on the spot is like watching an isekai anime, you don't watch it because you expect good guilty, you watch it because you want to watch an isekai. in terms of playing the game for pokemon it does it's job well.
