Yup. It's a dude who goes by the name of Harry101UK. He's a pretty large creator in the portal community having made a bunch of animations and music videos.
Yep, when Mel originally came out there were a lot of complaints that the mod was too hard. So they made changes to the majority of the test chambers and some behind the scenes areas to make it easier. The easier mode then became story mode, and the original mod became advanced mode. The puzzles in advanced mode are really hard so I only recommend playing it when you feel more confident in your puzzle solving skills. Maybe play Portal: Reloaded or Rexaura 1st, those are pretty tough.
It wasn’t even that hard I don’t understand all this commotion Yeah it was definitely hard, but isn’t that the point of puzzle games and makes the game longer
And it causes a bug, the menu changes according to what chapter you're playing, but they only made it work for the original maps, which means that when playing story mod, you'll always see the same menu.
3:00 This is acutally canon! The mod developers just put the assets from the original game in their mod. You can find the exact same newspaper and "shower salesman trophy" in Portal 2, (Spoilers ahead) right after opening the big door and hearing the first voice line from Cave Johnson.
8:17 Kill it! It’s evil. 15:40 Virgil yells at you no matter what route you take. He’s angry if you take the stairs, he’s angry if you take the elevator, he’s angry with you if you take the other rock path. 20:55 This one is Mel. I played through challenge mode, it was pretty difficult. It still has the story, story mode just has easier puzzles (challenge mode is how it was originally designed, it got nerfed and story mode was made). 22:33 Mel is inbetween portal 1 and 2. As you can tell from the post-credits scene, *_directly_* before portal 2. 31:21 I had basically the exact same experience in this section.
Also Mel and Revolution are prequels to portal 2 which is why glados' demise got referenced in them both. with characters completely different from chell the main character in portal 1 & 2
Portal: Reloaded and Aperture Tag are both good choices. Want Portal, but with a THIRD portal that travels through time? Portal: Reloaded. Want Portal, but WITHOUT portals and instead solve puzzles with the gels? Aperture Tag.
I think the "boat" reference may have been an allusion to the Borealis from HL2:E2, who's dry dock you can can find In Portal 2 if you know where to look.
Love Portal Stories Mel! It was really fun to see your reactions to it. Agreed that the puzzles are pretty tricky. I shamelessly used a guide at several points, though was proud of myself whenever I did figure a room out on my own. As for future Portal mods: I highly recommend Portal Reloaded! It uses a new portal gun with a third portal that adds time travel into the puzzle mechanics. It’s wildly creative, brain twisting, and fun.
Mel was supposed to be the main character for portal 2 and left glados dead , but instead they continued with chell and glados in portal 2, so this is the scrapped story idea for portal 2 , and the boat mentioned in video was the Borealis witch was found in half life it was an aperture science ship that was portaled
I've never figured out how to solve 9:30... My solution was always -place cube on button with just a few pixels actually weighing it down -get on the piston with just a few pixels still on it -grab cube -piston moves me up with cube
The “Boat” Virgil was referring to is the Borealis. In the lore of portal it was made as a response to Black Mesa’s teleportation experiments. However something happened and cause the teleportation devices on board to malfunction and it teleported to the Artic.
You should definitely play Undertale Yellow. Its an Undertale fanmade non-canon but might be the most high quality, fun, well written, emotional, really good music- You get it its just like Undertale at rating. Its based on the Justice (Yellow) soul that fell just before Frisk (main character from Undertale). Also its Free on Game Jolt
Ya this mod plays with some expectations, it starts as a prequel to portal 1 during the early years of Aperture only to then put you in the time period in between portal 1 and 2 thus making it a midquel. I personally find this game to be challenging but clear in most of it's puzzles where as with Revolution I had multiple times where I just got stuck and had no idea what it wanted from me at certain steps without looking up a video to know how to proceed. Yes Mel did involve a more advanced tech which is not taught in base game called "cube respawning" and it does try to teach you about it early on because you would not think about spawning a new cube as a puzzle mechanic. It's one of those things you either get or struggle with if you don't. That being said the rest of the puzzles outside of some of the more complex ones are fairly straight forward in Mel. With Revolution it tends to lean into a LOT more difficult/abstract puzzle design which also involves multiple loops of the same steps at various points, which also causes frustration if you mess up midway having to redo a good chunk of progress including those loops. I guess I just prefer Mel as overall it feels more compelling and fun than what Revolution had to offer, not to mention the story is more portal connected and plausible than whatever the joke turn Revolution took later on.
4:21 my memory is a little fuzzy on it so I'm not sure if this is for sure but my personal headcanon isn't that you go into a deep sleep for a couple minutes _before_ doing some tests, rather the deep sleep _is_ the test
I just played Mel, and it is an amazing mod. It really is a whole other portal game. Even the nerfed story mode is significantly more difficult than Portal 2. Truly a great game.
Highly recommend trying out another portal fan game called Apeture Tag: Paint Gun Testing Initiative. It has a really fun story, 2 different endings, really fun mechanics/puzzles, and the robot in the game does a pretty good job at matching how glados/wheatley behave and speak in the main games.
I don't know if you know it but there is a mod named "Portal: Prelude" which is the prequel to Portal 1. And it got the classic Portal style that you like. (Thhis mod also got a RTX remake, you can ignore the remake)
There's this game I found once called 'Project R4T' that is not very long but pretty interesting. I suppose you could make a short video on it. It is free on steam, and is about being able to change size. Each size can do different things, and there are also a few other things that make it interesting. Pretty cool, but again, could have more content
You should try Portal Prelude Just make sure to play the non-RTX version. The RTX is quite bad. Not only it has performance and physics problems but it has some dialogs removed due to consorship, but instead of replacing them, it just contains blanks that make the story confusing.
Hope you discover "Apriture Tag" (propably butchered the name). Basically, focus on portals has ben swapped with a focus on gells. You get a gel gun. All im saying.

And also Gordon Freeman is not mute but voicing things, such as push of buttons and useable staff!
Now do it again but in Virtual Reality. (Yes there really is a VR version of this mod, not sure how good or motion sickness inducing it may be tho. Test with caution.)
I just wanna say you are pretty hard on yourself you often claim to be stuck, you're not stuck some puzzles you get instantly some take you longer to figure out what works and what doesn't. Would be a bad puzzle game if you go through it with ease. Also the advanced mode was once the story mode and they made it easier. Maybe they are easier once you played the story version of it first but I had some sleepless nights not giving up on those puzzles when I played this on release XD
