Yeah, with just one portal the wall is still there so camera is attached. With both portals active the wall turns into a wormhole, so the camera is floating midair and the good old gravity says hello.
the reson why black mesa didnt come to figure out why aperture was so silent is because shortly after glad0s took over, the resenance cascade happend, and after that.. well you will figure out the rest
The portal 2 gun was in the incinerator, implying its the same one from portal 1, which was in a testing tract. Probably made before the 8km limitation, left on that track, and they never considered it a threat when its miles under the surface. Why bother reconfiguring something that under normal circumstances will never see the sky? Reasonable budget cut.
To me it seemed like Emilia was implying the limitation was put in place as to not shoot the sun. Probably because the creators needed an explanation as to why we can't shoot the sun. Though that was unnecessary as the sun is not a portalable surface.
19:52 fun info: the reason the giga teleporter broke like that was because you had your portal gun on you. there’s signs outside the room saying to leave all portal tech outside for safety. i guess this is why.
As far as why Stirling and Emilia don't just give you the puzzles' solutions in universe, it's apparently because they're programatically inhibited from doing so. Wheatley (and presumably GLaDOS as well, even running on a potato, since she brought it up) suffer some kind of pain whenever they give hints to the puzzles. If a human character were around, this probably would be a plothole, but every NPC in the Portal series is a robot. This excludes Ratman, who actually *does* leave hints, even if it's before you show up.
I beleive that the glados body is what is causing the pain when you reveal the answer. There is no eveidence that the cores posess this restriction too.
@@pengil3 except that glados *IN THE POTATO* says she cant help you before wheatley tries to help you and gets hurt. It cant be the body, it has to be in the cores themselves.
Yep, it's the same with Virgil in Portal Stories: Mel. He says that all Aperture AIs are programmed to not help with the tests. I think that's probably the summary.

@@Anima-bribeI don't think so, as the one in portal 1 and 2 is the only one that has GLaDOS, and Stirling wants to bring her back online, meaning it is probably just a different part of the base/location

To explain what Sterling said about humans not existing. He was referring to the staff. Glados killed all the humans with the exception of Ratman, who Sterling probably doesn’t know about, that worked at aperture with neurotoxin before the first game begins. There are however an unspecified number of humans in cryosleep waiting to be awakened by aperture for the purposes of testing, this is where Chell came from. In the first game, it starts with her coming out of her cryochamber. Also Portal 1 and 2 are many years possibly centuries apart given how bad aperture became between Portal 1 and 2. Chell was alive because she was dragged back into the facility and put in cryosleep again at the end of Portal 1.
I thought it was more so just referring to the job of a janitor and that you would be cleaning whatever remains of a not existing anymore human, so a dead human but thats a much deeper theory on that simple line
In the end of portal 2 co op, she finds more humans(and she kills them all, in a week, if I remember correctly) Maybe sterling knew about that, or maybe your theory is correct
And also just generally the remains of the countless people who died during testing, I'd wager. It was a very common occurrence, and _someone_ had to clean things up. So that was probably the main task of the janitorial staff.
Ha have fun with Portal: Reloaded Sidenote: The surface in Portal 2 is actually one of the hard light bridge, light collection fields. During one of the first chambers including them the screens showed a small graphic with a tiny shed in the middle of a wheat field pumping in "natural light"
I believe Portal Revolution and Portal Stories: Mel both take place before Portal 2. Also I think the only reason Stirling mentioned the limit on the portal gun was to prevent players trying to portal on the moon again during the outdoor chambers xD
Another mod you should totally check out is Portal Stories: Mel It’s really well-crafted and there’s actually a reference to that mod’s villain in Revolution, seeming to imply that these fan stories are canon to each other, which is pretty neat to see and I’d personally love more interconnected mods for this game.
Well you do take the dual portal device in protal 2 from inside the incinerator so it might be an older model that is able to shoot that far. Maybe even the one from portal 1

I think the 8 km limit was put in place because playtesters tried to shoot the sun to see if something similar to the Portal 2 ending would happen. In my opinion, it would have been better to add a voiceline that says "You can't place a portal at the sun, because it doesn't have a solid surface", which would make more sense than *that* portal gun specifically being limited and the one from Portal 2 not being limited. Alternatively, they could say that the portal gun has an effective range of something like 500,000 km. In that case, the moon would still be in range while the sun wouldn't.
@@knickohr01there’s another section where the moon is visible through a gap in the roof, and I think playtesters tried to portal on the moon there. So the ‘8km limit’ is likely because of that
response to 7:05, there was a simpler solution involving getting both you and the cube onto the hard light bridge by resetting the cube and bringing it through the portal, then that lets you go up to the ledge without resorting to cube throwing lol
so chapter 2 with the laser override the cube needs to plug actually was in portal 2, albiet only in portal 2 coop. I found a bug while in coop that if you crouch in the hole then put the ball in, then you get stuck. with no way out. so I saw it in this mod and thought "I wonder if they fixed that." I went to test it, lacking the foresight to save beforehand, and got softlocked. good to see the mod devs didn't fix something that was broken in the base game. it was a fun little experience that cost me a bit of progress, good times.
It would be funny if the people conducting testing research figured out that mute people did better in tests (they don’t speak, and are more focused on the testing and can’t easily complain), so they highly leaned towards more a sample of mute people to get favourable results.
Your portal videos have let me relive a childhood I can never live for the first time again. Thank you. Thank you for playing my favorite game of all time, Portal 2. The memories of 11/12yo me seeing the box with the robots, getting it at Target on disc; of my brother having to buy a GPU for me so I can play my first steam game; All of it flooding back.
I might as well mention it but Portal 2 does have co-op campaign with its own story. Not sure if co-op is a no go but it’s there and does have some lore.
I found this video today, realized Portal Revolution existed, kept this video ready in the background, downloaded the mod and played it through, closed it out, and am now watching this video. I've been through a lot today.
i 100% reccomend you play portal 2s coop mode, it has a new story that takes place shortly after the main game and it also explanes a lot of what your confused about
the reson why the giant teleporter dosent work when you walk in is because your holding a portal gun, a device that uses a miniature black hole to function and you are taking it through another much larger dimention defiing miniature black hole, its stated on one of the posters near the controll room to NOT TAKE A PORTAL DEVICE INTO THE CHAMBER which is exactly what you do lmao
Portal revolution uses a lot of advanced techniques you'd see in difficult puzzles, stuff like null portals and box respawns (Mike Daas has some great videos explaining them). The other mods, Portal Stories Mel, Aperture Tag, and Portal Reloaded don't use those difficult techniques as from what I've seen, but still have their unique mechanics. Enjoyed watching you find ways to "cheese" the puzzles though xD
In portal two after you awaken glados you get the portal one portal gun that doesn’t have a limiter but you have a portal two portal gun that has a limiter
the first camera didnt pop off because you had no other portal in the open, you COULD have just opened the orange portal by doing most of the test BUT you couldve gone back for that specific camera (you had an orange portal by now) and pop the camera off but you just didnt. oh and i just randomly came up with a theory: the blue eyed black and white core who said "Wait, You want to bring back GlaDos?" is a former employee who died to glados and got their mind transferred to a core
@@kirill9064 cool but.. if im wrong.. she COULD be transferred to a core like this *working on mind to core project* *forgets to turn on safety switch (prevents from fully transferring mind to core when turned on)* *uses device* *dies* *brings back to life in a core*
my theary regarding the portal gun 6 km range is taht chell in portal 2 pickt up a older moddle that got discradet with the ending of portal1, in contary this portal gun you pickt up as part of a test sequence so it is probly "in norm"
The game does seem to be pre portal 2 I’m *guessing* the game timeline is a little after portal 1 but when you use the time portal it sends you I *think* a little after portal 2
destroying the cameras only works if the portal is open, since the comer cannot sit on "air" it simply falls off the wall, however an unopened portal still acts like wall, so the camera can sit on it you have a very valid point about the range? i was under the impression this game was set between the 2. i would only have to assume it was a bit of an oversight on the mod developers part, as for the mountains, aperture laboratories is QUITE a large facility when you think about it with, thousands of test chambers with ALLOT of people in cryogenic storage. the scale of the facility is unreasonable large. so it's not that surprising to have multiple places to the surface a few kilometers or more away from each other unfortunately as whitely mentioned in portal 2, AI personality cores etc, are all programed to not tell test subjects the answers to test chambers. so even if they wanted to their programing would, prevent it
portal revolution is so fun but REALLY hard, my friend and i had to use walkthroughs a lot to get through it. Mel is incredibly fun and has a great story, and Aperture Desk Job is short and sweet! i recommend all of them!! in addition to the half life games of course.
I wanna say the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device Chell uses in Portal 2 may be an older model, possibly even the very same one she used before she destroyed GLaDOS in the first game. Especially considering we find it in the Aperture Science Emergency Intelligence Incinerator, undestroyed. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume it may not have been updated with those limitations suggested in this game.
I think the reason the other portal gun could portal to the moon is that it was a much older model that was used while glados was still around, we can assume this is in the future when it has been a while so it is plausible that there have been upgrades to the portal gun. also the aperture labs are located in a salt mine so the exterior you see here actually makes slightly more sense than the field in portal 2
17:20 bro you stuffed him in a corner for the rest of his eternal life he cant live out his dreams or even see anything but the wall you didn't save him you just invented a new form of torture for this guy
Oh ho ho ho ho Sorry to destroy your hope - but Portal moders are different breed. Most of them make puzzles much harder than og portal Also Lore - Glados used neurotoxin to kill all scientists when she was first activated The only remaining humans in aperture are: Portal - one paranoid scientist that survive during neurotoxin attack - Ratman. Chell and other test subjects that are currently in their modules Portal 2 - life support system for test subjects was off. All test subjects died because of that. Chell survived because Ratman sacrificed himself to turn on emergency life support system in her room. Portal 2 Coop - turns out there a whole hidden cryogenic storage in facility with hundreds test subjects. But they all frozen and can't be really count as Alive. And as you probably already know - Portal is part of the Half-Life universe. So life outside is pretty f*cked up. Even tho Portal 2 happened decades after Half-life 2(there no certain number. Devs just joke that Chell been sleeping from 50 to 5000 years :) )
First, the aperture science facility is GIGANTIC! that is why at portal two, there is wheat, and in this mod there are mountains. Second, the portal device from portal 2 was inside an incinerator, so i would assume it has been down there from before the firmware update that limited range to 8km
08:47 in the end of the co-op courses in portal 2 you can find a lot of test subjects in cryostatus so probobly around 1000 other humans are alive in aperture
19:27 as you said, it *is* happening between portal 1 and 2 since Stirling says here that Shell spread appart GLADoS everywhere even in the parking lot, which we do see in the end screen of Portal 1
7:00 bit hard to explain but u get on ledge put cube on button/in the way of laser, go through a blue portal you put on a white panel nearest u and emancipate the cube, keep repeating till you finish the test
The Portal Gun Being Limited To 8 Kilometres Thing: The One You Have At That Point Was Made After Aperture Realized "Hey Maybe We Shouldn't Let Someone Teleport To The Moon And End The World". The Dual Portal Gun You Find In Portal 2 Was Probably Made Before They Realized That. Pretty Sure Stirling, Being A Vacuum, Just Doesn't Know Moonrocks Are Needed For Portals. I Wouldn't Assume My Roomba Knows What The Moon Even Is, Let Alone How A Portal Gun Works.
24:11 a little late, but the song is called Komplementar! make sure to search up the real one, since you’ll probably get the pre-release version first!
At 6:30, I think you can solve it by putting down the cube on the button like you did, then set a portal on/above the ledge with the laser. Now go back into the box with the cube spawner, spawn a new cube and bring it through the orange portal.
In response to your confusion about the portal guns range being limited but also reaching the moon, Sterling says "this iteration" and it's a gun with only blue portals so definitely different to the one you shoot the moon with regardless of timeline placement
One thing I found wierd about Portal Revolution is that stirling seemed genuinely nice before the reveal that he wanted glados alive, then he starts sounding more evil like nothing's changed, why is his personality so different???
He felt betrayed because the player character suddenly turned against him when realizing that Stirling wanted to turn on a killer robot. Also because you start talking to emilia, which makes Stirling think that he is replacable. Also also, he needs you in the beginning but he can handle the rest once you turn on the teleporter. Therefore he doesn't have a reason to be nice anymore. They still could have written him better, but I don't think it's that unreasonable for him to change so much.
It's also because there was cut content from this game. They'd been working on this mod for literal years and just wanted to be finished. So the ending, and the twist, is kind of rushed.
23:59 GLaDOS, when in her ‘tater form, notes after Wheatley has a spasm “and that’s why I can’t help you solve the tests.”, earlier, before that puzzle, she mentions she can’t help you, no?
I think this is before portal 2, at 19:34 it says "parking lot" and is talking about bringing her back together 24:00 they can't give information to finish the test. as seen in portal 2.
I just like to point out that I really like the detail on the weathered portal gun that when you move it around, one of its prong...arm thingies move around, really showing how damaged it is.
15:20 in Portal 2, There are workshop maps for a series called "The Multiverse" Or something like it, i couldn't help to notice that this room and multiple other references are shown in both this mod and that workshop series, when i played portal revolution i was surprised by how familiar certain zones seemed, until i replayed the workshop series. Please correct me if i got the name wrong.
18:13 I for the life of me, could not wrap my head around this level. I barely managed to somehow b-hop from the button to an angle where i could shoot the portal at the angled wall before the cube went through the other portal.
The first camera didn't pop off because there was no orange portal, the portal has to be linked for that to work.

response to 7:05, there was a simpler solution involving getting both you and the cube onto the hard light bridge by resetting the cube and bringing it through the portal, then that lets you go up to the ledge without resorting to cube throwing lol
Throarbin's exceptional ability to not understand how video games work is becoming legendary. :D
YOU MISSED THE AFTER CREDITS SCENE
after that thing with thanking all the people who helped making the game there is a little cutscene wich is pretty cool
so chapter 2 with the laser override the cube needs to plug actually was in portal 2, albiet only in portal 2 coop.
The test you solved by yeeting the cube is just one big order challenge, where you need to do a lot of stuff in the exact right order. It sucks a lot.
So, basically like every other Portal puzzle
@@Creadeyh yes, except most of those somewhat have save states where you don’t have to redo the whole thing if you fail.
The memories of 11/12yo me seeing the box with the robots, getting it at Target on disc;
of my brother having to buy a GPU for me so I can play my first steam game;
All of it flooding back.
I might as well mention it but Portal 2 does have co-op campaign with its own story.
Not sure if co-op is a no go but it’s there and does have some lore.
Yes, I do know of it, I just haven't been able to get around to it yet.
The co-op is not really about story, but it has great puzzles, and it's really fun to mess around with a friend.
@@amethyst137_ It does have quite a significant story actually. The end pretty much sets up a sequel (though that sequel doesn't seem to be coming).
@@9nikola true. I'm just saying that co-op doesn't contain a lot of story events.
0:15 Fnaf help wanted ahh opening

I found this video today, realized Portal Revolution existed, kept this video ready in the background, downloaded the mod and played it through, closed it out, and am now watching this video. I've been through a lot today.
i 100% reccomend you play portal 2s coop mode, it has a new story that takes place shortly after the main game and it also explanes a lot of what your confused about
24:13 The portal 2 campaign spells it out for you. All aperture personality constructs are physically unable to help test subjects through tests
*unable
@@kirill9064 lol how did I mess that up
the reson why the giant teleporter dosent work when you walk in is because your holding a portal gun, a device that uses a miniature black hole to function and you are taking it through another much larger dimention defiing miniature black hole, its stated on one of the posters near the controll room to NOT TAKE A PORTAL DEVICE INTO THE CHAMBER which is exactly what you do lmao
6:00 it makes less sense on the other side of the door, the game knows that, but not of the like itself
In portal two after you awaken glados you get the portal one portal gun that doesn’t have a limiter but you have a portal two portal gun that has a limiter
u should try portal: stories mel also
noted
the first camera didnt pop off because you had no other portal in the open, you COULD have just opened the orange portal by doing most of the test BUT you couldve gone back for that specific camera (you had an orange portal by now) and pop the camera off but you just didnt.
oh and i just randomly came up with a theory: the blue eyed black and white core who said "Wait, You want to bring back GlaDos?" is a former employee who died to glados and got their mind transferred to a core
She was one of scientists working on project. They have been testing tech on themselves.
@@kirill9064 cool
but..
if im wrong..
she COULD be transferred to a core like this
*working on mind to core project*
*forgets to turn on safety switch (prevents from fully transferring mind to core when turned on)*
*uses device*
*dies*
*brings back to life in a core*
the button that can only hold a cube is from portal 2 co-op
you should get portal reloaded it has a 3rd portal
8:46 he was including you
my theary regarding the portal gun 6 km range is taht chell in portal 2 pickt up a older moddle that got discradet with the ending of portal1, in contary this portal gun you pickt up as part of a test sequence so it is probly "in norm"
I haven't played this portal mod but the portal stories: Mel is also awesome. Nice video!
13:24
Chell's gun is probs from that old sun shooting era.
The game does seem to be pre portal 2 I’m *guessing* the game timeline is a little after portal 1 but when you use the time portal it sends you I *think* a little after portal 2
destroying the cameras only works if the portal is open, since the comer cannot sit on "air" it simply falls off the wall, however an unopened portal still acts like wall, so the camera can sit on it
you have a very valid point about the range? i was under the impression this game was set between the 2. i would only have to assume it was a bit of an oversight on the mod developers part, as for the mountains, aperture laboratories is QUITE a large facility when you think about it with, thousands of test chambers with ALLOT of people in cryogenic storage. the scale of the facility is unreasonable large. so it's not that surprising to have multiple places to the surface a few kilometers or more away from each other
unfortunately as whitely mentioned in portal 2, AI personality cores etc, are all programed to not tell test subjects the answers to test chambers. so even if they wanted to their programing would, prevent it
portal revolution is so fun but REALLY hard, my friend and i had to use walkthroughs a lot to get through it.
"so how are the kids? Oh no, uhm forget i asked that" 💀💀💀
I think the reason the other portal gun could portal to the moon is that it was a much older model that was used while glados was still around, we can assume this is in the future when it has been a while so it is plausible that there have been upgrades to the portal gun. also the aperture labs are located in a salt mine so the exterior you see here actually makes slightly more sense than the field in portal 2
1:08 wheatley: its not out of the question, that you may have a VERY minor case of serious brain damage
17:20
bro you stuffed him in a corner for the rest of his eternal life he cant live out his dreams or even see anything but the wall you didn't save him you just invented a new form of torture for this guy
“I quite happily emancipated all over the place”
Without context that sounds cursed😭
you do realize that in game the entire facility is impossibly huge, so the surface in this mod is just somewhere away from that wheat field
That ending was _abrupt_!
For a second I thought the “spire” was the citadel from HL2 then I realised it wasnt
"I can't believe my Roomba is trying to kill us."
Hell, I named ours "Steve"
Oh ho ho ho ho
Sorry to destroy your hope - but Portal moders are different breed. Most of them make puzzles much harder than og portal
Also
Lore - Glados used neurotoxin to kill all scientists when she was first activated
The only remaining humans in aperture are:
Portal - one paranoid scientist that survive during neurotoxin attack - Ratman.
Chell and other test subjects that are currently in their modules
Portal 2 - life support system for test subjects was off. All test subjects died because of that.
Chell survived because Ratman sacrificed himself to turn on emergency life support system in her room.
Portal 2 Coop - turns out there a whole hidden cryogenic storage in facility
with hundreds test subjects. But they all frozen and can't be really count as Alive.
And as you probably already know - Portal is part of the Half-Life universe.
So life outside is pretty f*cked up. Even tho Portal 2 happened decades after Half-life 2(there no certain number. Devs just joke that Chell been sleeping from 50 to 5000 years :) )
Also, you should do Aperture Tag: The Testing Initiative, P0RTAL: REL0ADED, P0RTAL RTX, P0RTAL STORIES: MEL and Aperture Desk Job.
It's more like Portal 1.5 as glados isnt active yet.
So glad to see you playing this. It really deserves some attention
Portal Games Timeline: Portal Prelude, Portal, Portal Revolution, Aperture Tag, Portal Stories: Mel Portal 2 and Portal Reloaded
Portal stories : Mel , is still my favorite portal mod.
But Revolution is well made as well, good fun game.
First, the aperture science facility is GIGANTIC! that is why at portal two, there is wheat, and in this mod there are mountains.
Second, the portal device from portal 2 was inside an incinerator, so i would assume it has been down there from before the firmware update that limited range to 8km
13:12 my thought is that we pick up our old portal gun from portal 1 in portal 2 when you awaken Glados and that one doesn't have the new limitations
08:47 in the end of the co-op courses in portal 2 you can find a lot of test subjects in cryostatus so probobly around 1000 other humans are alive in aperture
Throarbin cheezes puzzles as usual.
1:50 now you understand the catchphrase "now you're thinking with portals"
In response to your confusion about the portal guns range being limited but also reaching the moon, Sterling says "this iteration" and it's a gun with only blue portals so definitely different to the one you shoot the moon with regardless of timeline placement
the cores cannot tell you how to beat tests. Wheatley tried and got a horrid zap.
One thing I found wierd about Portal Revolution is that stirling seemed genuinely nice before the reveal that he wanted glados alive, then he starts sounding more evil like nothing's changed, why is his personality so different???
It's called manipulation, hun
Yeah, he did kinda turn evil outta nowhere
23:59 GLaDOS, when in her ‘tater form, notes after Wheatley has a spasm “and that’s why I can’t help you solve the tests.”, earlier, before that puzzle, she mentions she can’t help you, no?
cores get the itch to test only after being transferred to the glados body
I think this is before portal 2, at 19:34 it says "parking lot" and is talking about bringing her back together
24:00 they can't give information to finish the test. as seen in portal 2.
I bought both just to play this mod
I just like to point out that I really like the detail on the weathered portal gun that when you move it around, one of its prong...arm thingies move around, really showing how damaged it is.
17:22 Fun fact! if you save all of the turrets, you get an acheivement!
1:20 The reason why the first camera didn’t fall is that the portal didn’t have another side yet so it couldn’t fall
By that i mean That exact vent being open in That exact Place with that exact chair in the middle
I even remember the ladder from the workshop article on the other side of the vent which isn't in this mod!
The portals have to be connected/openned for the cammeras to fall of
Did you know that you can get yourself "stuck" in portal 1 and 2. When you do , glados is forced to rescue you so that you can continue testing
14:28 thats a cube-specific button that doesnt work with humans or spheres, seen also in the co-op and level creator
18:13 I for the life of me, could not wrap my head around this level. I barely managed to somehow b-hop from the button to an angle where i could shoot the portal at the angled wall before the cube went through the other portal.
