So, Portal Revolution is Basically Portal 3

- Portal Revolution is a mod created for the portal series made by Valve, the owners of Steam. Sure it was made a while ago but I never played it because it didn't look all that interesting. All that happens is you use some portals for puzzle solving, right? Well, I gave it a try and was proven quite wrong.

The first camera didn't pop off because there was no orange portal, the portal has to be linked for that to work.
Never played any mod including this but instantly knew why lol
kolo5141 is right, but you don't need a mod for that to be true
SpongeBob: Yeah! Orange portals are important!
beat me to it
Yeah, with just one portal the wall is still there so camera is attached.
With both portals active the wall turns into a wormhole, so the camera is floating midair and the good old gravity says hello.
Other MUST PLAY Portal 2 mods: Portal stories Mel, Aperture TAG, and Portal Reloaded (Prepare your brain for damage)
Dude I beat Reloaded when it came... some weeks ago I tried again and rage quit LOL
Rexaura as well, but thats for portal 1.
Imo TAG is mid, Mel is cool but some tests are strange, and Reloaded is just hard af (but maybe the coolest of the 3)
Portal prelude is also pretty good
@@NicholasGaming47 yes
The portal 2 gun was in the incinerator, implying its the same one from portal 1, which was in a testing tract. Probably made before the 8km limitation, left on that track, and they never considered it a threat when its miles under the surface. Why bother reconfiguring something that under normal circumstances will never see the sky? Reasonable budget cut.
i mean, they probably assumed it *was* incinerated. iirc it was only saved by the accumulated rubble
To me it seemed like Emilia was implying the limitation was put in place as to not shoot the sun. Probably because the creators needed an explanation as to why we can't shoot the sun. Though that was unnecessary as the sun is not a portalable surface.
@@robingates-shannon931GLaDos says that the aperture technology can withstand very high temperatures
19:52 fun info: the reason the giga teleporter broke like that was because you had your portal gun on you. there’s signs outside the room saying to leave all portal tech outside for safety. i guess this is why.
who would thought that bringing minature black hole to teleport experiment could cause som issues?
Oh that's good
To explain what Sterling said about humans not existing. He was referring to the staff. Glados killed all the humans with the exception of Ratman, who Sterling probably doesn’t know about, that worked at aperture with neurotoxin before the first game begins. There are however an unspecified number of humans in cryosleep waiting to be awakened by aperture for the purposes of testing, this is where Chell came from. In the first game, it starts with her coming out of her cryochamber. Also Portal 1 and 2 are many years possibly centuries apart given how bad aperture became between Portal 1 and 2. Chell was alive because she was dragged back into the facility and put in cryosleep again at the end of Portal 1.
I thought it was more so just referring to the job of a janitor and that you would be cleaning whatever remains of a not existing anymore human, so a dead human but thats a much deeper theory on that simple line
In the end of portal 2 co op, she finds more humans(and she kills them all, in a week, if I remember correctly)
Maybe sterling knew about that, or maybe your theory is correct
And also just generally the remains of the countless people who died during testing, I'd wager. It was a very common occurrence, and _someone_ had to clean things up. So that was probably the main task of the janitorial staff.
As far as why Stirling and Emilia don't just give you the puzzles' solutions in universe, it's apparently because they're programatically inhibited from doing so. Wheatley (and presumably GLaDOS as well, even running on a potato, since she brought it up) suffer some kind of pain whenever they give hints to the puzzles.
If a human character were around, this probably would be a plothole, but every NPC in the Portal series is a robot. This excludes Ratman, who actually *does* leave hints, even if it's before you show up.
I beleive that the glados body is what is causing the pain when you reveal the answer. There is no eveidence that the cores posess this restriction too.
@@pengil3 except that glados *IN THE POTATO* says she cant help you before wheatley tries to help you and gets hurt. It cant be the body, it has to be in the cores themselves.
Yep, it's the same with Virgil in Portal Stories: Mel. He says that all Aperture AIs are programmed to not help with the tests. I think that's probably the summary.
the reson why black mesa didnt come to figure out why aperture was so silent is because shortly after glad0s took over, the resenance cascade happend, and after that.. well you will figure out the rest
13:39 The mod takes place before Portal 2, but the portal gun you have in Portal 2 is the same one you had in Portal 1. Presumably an older model, given context (and the ability to shoot to the moon).
the one from portal 2 is almost definitely an older model, its probably the same one as from portal 1, or maybe another subject that glados has burned
There’s a post credits scene for portal revolution that you completely missed.
could you please describe it?
@@magentaballthepolandball5130 in the end, the Spire teleported itself to the Moon
Ha have fun with Portal: Reloaded
Sidenote: The surface in Portal 2 is actually one of the hard light bridge, light collection fields. During one of the first chambers including them the screens showed a small graphic with a tiny shed in the middle of a wheat field pumping in "natural light"
That's pretty cool
I believe Portal Revolution and Portal Stories: Mel both take place before Portal 2. Also I think the only reason Stirling mentioned the limit on the portal gun was to prevent players trying to portal on the moon again during the outdoor chambers xD
Yup
it didn't prevent me because later when you get the red portal gun it might not have that limit so i still tried shooting portals to the moon
If you haven't seen the "bucket buttons" before, then they must have been unique to the co-op of portal 2, because they were definitely in that game somewhere. The point is that they can only be pressed by a cube, unlike regular buttons that the player can stand on as well
3:00 The reason the emancipation grill became red is cuz the laser relay triggered it, as you can tell from the antlines
He somehow beat all of Portal and Portal 2 without ever actually understanding the ant lines.
He is a moron

It did sound like "This iteration" of your portal device is limited to 8km, bets the official ones from Portal 1 & 2 had no actual range limit.
The mod authors probably threw that in as an obvious reference to the ending, but they may have had all this in mind: remember, GLaDOS gives you a very old nearly broken portal gun from the bottom of the incinerator.
Also, all of it may have been part of her plan, while attached to it, she could have undone the limitation.
I mean yeah we literally shoot a portal at the moon to kill wheatley 😂

i got scared on my first playthrough lol
So to answer your main question throughout the video of "when does this take place?" It does between 1 portal and 2 portal even the steam page says so and everything you do in it is just setting up for portal 2 i belive, and now here are the answers to some questions that you asked (of course these are my thoughts but they do patch the holes that would be made otherwise so it could be all correct)
12:36 the surface is acurate to the FIRST portal where it was much more green and mountainous (not as much as it is in game still but its acceptable) and i guess after those millions of years in Chell's cryosleep that terrain was transformed into a wheat field
12:47 "Did you know that THIS ITTERATION of the appature science handheld portal device has been SPECIFICALY configured to not shoot portals further than 8 km"
This implies multiple diffrent versions of said portal gun and that some were limited and some were not
(i guess the devs really just wanted to make a reference and needed a excuse to make it?)
I think the 8 km limit was put in place because playtesters tried to shoot the sun to see if something similar to the Portal 2 ending would happen. In my opinion, it would have been better to add a voiceline that says "You can't place a portal at the sun, because it doesn't have a solid surface", which would make more sense than *that* portal gun specifically being limited and the one from Portal 2 not being limited. Alternatively, they could say that the portal gun has an effective range of something like 500,000 km. In that case, the moon would still be in range while the sun wouldn't.
31:16 please tell me you didnt exit the game right before the post-credits cutscene...
Yeah... That was a letdown
7:04 you supposed to turn off the power then some elements would disable and you could move with your cube
3:09 we call those in the modding community, or at least where I’m from, “Laser Fizzlers”
wait...where is the post-credit scene?
Let’s guess hmm POST CREDITS????
These videos give me a chance to experience life with ADHD from a first-person perspective. This is both entertaining and terrifying, but more importantly I can see just how fast the cogs in your brain process & focus on information the game is still in the middle of giving you, only for you to move on to literally anything else way too soon, and then like 10 squirrel moments later you *might* process that more information was given from the first thing and you missed it XD My wife and kids all do this all day every day
Haha, wow, as a person with ADHD myself, I didn't notice anything odd about it all (cuz that's how I process so often too), but now that you point it out I can see that pattern. Like "Whoops, LOL, yeah it do be like that!" 😂
The test you solved by yeeting the cube is just one big order challenge, where you need to do a lot of stuff in the exact right order. It sucks a lot.
So, basically like every other Portal puzzle
@@Creadeyh yes, except most of those somewhat have save states where you don’t have to redo the whole thing if you fail.
YOU MISSED THE AFTER CREDITS SCENE
For the cameras, both portals need to be connected in order to remove them. That's why the first camera you tried didn't fall off, but the second one did.
response to 7:05, there was a simpler solution involving getting both you and the cube onto the hard light bridge by resetting the cube and bringing it through the portal, then that lets you go up to the ledge without resorting to cube throwing lol
after that thing with thanking all the people who helped making the game there is a little cutscene wich is pretty cool
The first camera saw a Null Portal, not a normal portal like the new one
Your portal videos have let me relive a childhood I can never live for the first time again. Thank you.
Thank you for playing my favorite game of all time, Portal 2.
The memories of 11/12yo me seeing the box with the robots, getting it at Target on disc;
of my brother having to buy a GPU for me so I can play my first steam game;
All of it flooding back.
Throarbin's exceptional ability to not understand how video games work is becoming legendary. :D
NOOOOO DID YOU QUIT THE GAME BEFORE THE ENDING CUTSCENE??? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
8:50 Aperature workers died. Test subjects are in suspended animation.
so chapter 2 with the laser override the cube needs to plug actually was in portal 2, albiet only in portal 2 coop. I found a bug while in coop that if you crouch in the hole then put the ball in, then you get stuck. with no way out. so I saw it in this mod and thought "I wonder if they fixed that." I went to test it, lacking the foresight to save beforehand, and got softlocked. good to see the mod devs didn't fix something that was broken in the base game. it was a fun little experience that cost me a bit of progress, good times.
I might as well mention it but Portal 2 does have co-op campaign with its own story.
Not sure if co-op is a no go but it’s there and does have some lore.
Yes, I do know of it, I just haven't been able to get around to it yet.
The co-op is not really about story, but it has great puzzles, and it's really fun to mess around with a friend.
@@amethyst137_ It does have quite a significant story actually. The end pretty much sets up a sequel (though that sequel doesn't seem to be coming).
@@9nikolai true. I'm just saying that co-op doesn't contain a lot of story events.
Didn't know you become the best youtuber ever if you just don't play popular games until 20 years later lol
Yeah, who knew, right? lol
People are just thrilled by being able to see someone experience those old games for the first time. Back then, live Let's plays weren't really a thing, & most people have played those old games already, or don't document their reactions like this.
So this is a rare opportunity to vicariously relive the experience of playing it for the first time again. Recapturing those emotions that we always wished we could re-experience. 🥲
i 100% reccomend you play portal 2s coop mode, it has a new story that takes place shortly after the main game and it also explanes a lot of what your confused about
u should try portal: stories mel also

I haven't played this portal mod but the portal stories: Mel is also awesome. Nice video!
So glad to see you playing this. It really deserves some attention
I wanna say the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device Chell uses in Portal 2 may be an older model, possibly even the very same one she used before she destroyed GLaDOS in the first game. Especially considering we find it in the Aperture Science Emergency Intelligence Incinerator, undestroyed. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume it may not have been updated with those limitations suggested in this game.
you should get portal reloaded it has a 3rd portal
1:50 now you understand the catchphrase "now you're thinking with portals"
portal revolution is so fun but REALLY hard, my friend and i had to use walkthroughs a lot to get through it. Mel is incredibly fun and has a great story, and Aperture Desk Job is short and sweet! i recommend all of them!! in addition to the half life games of course.
That ending was _abrupt_!
i just randomly came up with a theory: the blue eyed black and white core who said "Wait, You want to bring back GlaDos?" is a former employee who died to glados and got their mind transferred to a core
best portal mod i have ever played, I'm glad you tried it
the reson why the giant teleporter dosent work when you walk in is because your holding a portal gun, a device that uses a miniature black hole to function and you are taking it through another much larger dimention defiing miniature black hole, its stated on one of the posters near the controll room to NOT TAKE A PORTAL DEVICE INTO THE CHAMBER which is exactly what you do lmao
Throarbin cheezes puzzles as usual.
In portal two after you awaken glados you get the portal one portal gun that doesn’t have a limiter but you have a portal two portal gun that has a limiter
26:44 “it will forever be a mystery” falls into acid
This is quality that I'd see from a 250k sub channel! Excited to see your Gold play button!
1:28 - That only works if the portal has a link. That portal is not linked with a second portal.

bro you stuffed him in a corner for the rest of his eternal life he cant live out his dreams or even see anything but the wall you didn't save him you just invented a new form of torture for this guy
my theary regarding the portal gun 6 km range is taht chell in portal 2 pickt up a older moddle that got discradet with the ending of portal1, in contary this portal gun you pickt up as part of a test sequence so it is probly "in norm"
I love your ways to solve chambers, I got stuck in the same ones too. Ps: lmao, you even loved the same chamber background music I did (Komplementar)
For a second I thought the “spire” was the citadel from HL2 then I realised it wasnt
Yeah and before Portal Revolution people said that Portal Stories Mel was Portal 3 lmao
Yeah I know they are both amazing
“I quite happily emancipated all over the place”
Without context that sounds cursed😭
Portal stories : Mel , is still my favorite portal mod.
But Revolution is well made as well, good fun game.
Although I'm loads late, allow me to shed some light on some confusing matters you bring up in the video:
First off: You are NOT the only one, who struggled on those puzzles. As it happens, Mods tend to have exorbitantly harder puzzle maps than the main games, since the main games are usually more story-driven (especially Portal 2). Modders, on the other hand, tend to be very, *very* passionate about making puzzles as intricate as they possibly can, so if you ever end up, playing Portal Stories: Mel, let me tell you one thing: It is *not* a shame to play through the easy mode of that game. Not one bit. I was stuck on one of them for literally 5 hours myself.
At 6:10, you are actually supposed to deactivate the fizzler with the cube in the middle section, shoot a portal onto the ledge, walk back to the button to demand another cube, which you can then carry onto the ledge through the orange portal. And yes, Puzzles that require you to fizzle cubes to circumvent Fizzlers are also the ones I tend to get stuck on the most. My brain just does not want to fizzle cubes.
As for 13:00, with the thing about Portal Gun's range: They did that after Portal 1. However, the Portal Device, you use during Portal 2 is the same, you use during Portal 1, since you literally pick it up from the now extinguished former incinerator chamber. So it is still an old model without this range restriction. Hence why you can still shoot a portal onto the moon.
The button at 14:30 is actually a Cube-only button. The round buttons also activate, when the player stands on them. The rectangular ones do not, unless specifically a cube is placed on them.
For the little rant at minute 24:00... Aperture Personality Constructs are familiar with the tests, but have a built-in subroutine to prevent them from helping the subject to solve it. In Portal 2, Wheatley literally gets electrocuted because of it.
These were all, I remember right now. But I'm glad, you seemed to enjoy it ^^
Portal revolution uses a lot of advanced techniques you'd see in difficult puzzles, stuff like null portals and box respawns (Mike Daas has some great videos explaining them). The other mods, Portal Stories Mel, Aperture Tag, and Portal Reloaded don't use those difficult techniques as from what I've seen, but still have their unique mechanics. Enjoyed watching you find ways to "cheese" the puzzles though xD
I just like to point out that I really like the detail on the weathered portal gun that when you move it around, one of its prong...arm thingies move around, really showing how damaged it is.
13:24
Chell's gun is probs from that old sun shooting era.
Portal Reloaded is the official portal 3 in my opinion, thinking with a functional timeportal that multiplies your portals from 2 to 6 because you have to manage your portals in the past, present and future and their placement depends when you put them, aka if you shoot a portal to the past and shoot a portal there then in the present and future it'll still be there plus the environments change and have to get around them, it's honestly the best and closest we'll come to a portal 3
cores get the itch to test only after being transferred to the glados body
I think the Portal 2 levels in LEGO Dimensions will be the closest we get to an official Portal 3. They even got Ellen McLain to play GLaDOS and Jonathan Coulton to do an ending credits song.
There is also Portal reloaded, which has also been praised as an unofficial portal 3. It involves a timetravel portal as well
In portal 2 we get to use the portal gun back from portal 1, so it could still be possible that the limit already existed in between 1 and 2
24:11 a little late, but the song is called Komplementar! make sure to search up the real one, since you’ll probably get the pre-release version first!
I think the reason the other portal gun could portal to the moon is that it was a much older model that was used while glados was still around, we can assume this is in the future when it has been a while so it is plausible that there have been upgrades to the portal gun. also the aperture labs are located in a salt mine so the exterior you see here actually makes slightly more sense than the field in portal 2
wow this is like a walkthrough so itll help others thank you :)
There's 2 mods you should definitely check out, not sure about anything else:
Portal Stories: Mel
Portal Reloaded
you forgot Aperture Tag, if you missed that, it's worth playing
@@rhiwright Oh yeah, Aperture Tag. Fun little mod. I usually find that one harder to recommend because there's a price attached to it.
1:08 wheatley: its not out of the question, that you may have a VERY minor case of serious brain damage
Also, you should do Aperture Tag: The Testing Initiative, P0RTAL: REL0ADED, P0RTAL RTX, P0RTAL STORIES: MEL and Aperture Desk Job.
Portal Stories: Mel would be another cool mod too! Also Portal Reloaded, with time portals!
8:33 Im pretty sure sterling means the staff. Every other human is still in stasis and since most of them have bathrooms and at this point in the story should still be woken up by the system. Point is the only people you would have to clean up after are the staff and since they all died there is no people to clean up after
Your reaction to that room is The Uncanny Valley Effect. A lot of people experience this with the original backrooms. Or when you put human teeth on an animal or a stuffed animal.
The Portal series canonically takes place in the same universe as Half Life and Black Mesa, confirmed by Cave Johnson in Portal 2 when he says he hates Black Mesa for copying them. Humans are living (though not very well because of the events in Half Life) outside of Aperture, but all the humans inside the facility (that were not in cryogenic storage) are all dead, murdered by GLaDOS.
If you enjoy personality cores, try the Valve VR game “the lab”. There is one mini game that plays like a 3D angry birds, where you are shooting personality cores with a giant slingshot. Each core has a distinct personality and several minutes of hilarious dialogue.
19:27 as you said, it *is* happening between portal 1 and 2 since Stirling says here that Shell spread appart GLADoS everywhere even in the parking lot, which we do see in the end screen of Portal 1
Only one portal active = camera no fall.
Please activate opposite portal to drop the camera.
If he doesn't get this after 2 Portal games, he won't get it now.
I've found your channel very interesting, just the way your edit the video was great. I feel like you should definitely play Outer Wilds and it's DLC, it's an incredible story.
Yeah, a LOT of people want me to do Outer Wilds so I plan on getting to it.
@@ThroarbinGaming Really, that's great!
Omg the roomba joke killed me
My answer to the portal gun limitation would probably be that the dual portal gun is an older version which hasnt implemented that range limit before
I like how despite being a shared universe, Portal and Half-Life don't have much influence over each other.
Yep, i agree, it wasn't just new levels, it was a whole game with bossfight included
8:46 he was including you
Great video again. If you are going to play portal stories Mel, which is also amazing, I’d personally suggest playing advanced mode. Despite what the name suggests it is the normal mode which released first. Story mode was added in post and makes the puzzles easier, but also sometimes more boring with very similar solutions. So, Advanced Moder is harder, but also more fun
In order of difficulty: Aperture Tag is nice, though it focuses on the gel instead of the portals which makes the puzzles all way less difficult, but I still had a lot of fun with it. Portal Stories: Mel is a very good mod though it can be a little slow in places, not too much of a challenge I'd say probably on par with Revolution. And Portal: Reloaded is incredible, but it was also difficult enough that even after playing through all the other games and mods it gave me a headache.
I recommend giving each one a fair chance, I've been a huge fan of portal all my life so it makes me happy seeing someone enjoying it. Though if you find a second player, you might also try out Portal 2's Co-op mode. Very fun.
A camera will not fall off the wall if the portal behind it is closed, because that's essentially a solid wall. Only if the portal is connected to another will it be open and the camera will have nothing supporting it, so it will fall off.
You definitely have to try out Portal Reloaded. It is really fun to take on the challenge of a third Portal.
Dammit! Why isn’t this Portal 3?! Amelia sounds like such a fun character!
Oh ho ho ho ho
Sorry to destroy your hope - but Portal moders are different breed. Most of them make puzzles much harder than og portal
Also
Lore - Glados used neurotoxin to kill all scientists when she was first activated
The only remaining humans in aperture are:
Portal - one paranoid scientist that survive during neurotoxin attack - Ratman.
Chell and other test subjects that are currently in their modules
Portal 2 - life support system for test subjects was off. All test subjects died because of that.
Chell survived because Ratman sacrificed himself to turn on emergency life support system in her room.
Portal 2 Coop - turns out there a whole hidden cryogenic storage in facility
with hundreds test subjects. But they all frozen and can't be really count as Alive.
And as you probably already know - Portal is part of the Half-Life universe.
So life outside is pretty f*cked up. Even tho Portal 2 happened decades after Half-life 2(there no certain number. Devs just joke that Chell been sleeping from 50 to 5000 years :) )
Chell got 2 portal guns in Portal 2. The first on the pedastool, the second in the incinerator.
Glad you enjoyed!
15:10
Oh, hey! It's Megamind's prison chamber!
If you love new mechanics that make you think differently, you've got to give Portal: Reloaded a try. Good workout for your brain muscles.
