As a veteran of the game I have some tips to help you out. One, the scanner is how you progress the story, by scanning wreckage to get blueprints to build better gear, to ultimately go deeper. The game does have an ending, it’s not open ended like Minecraft. To get off the planet, you need to go down first. When you die, you lose any items you picked up since you last left your base. Any items you brought with you from your base do not get dropped. You met the Reaper in the first episode! They’re scary but you can manage them, they’re really bad at sharp turns! It’s my favorite game now, and helped me conquer my fear of the ocean!
For a blind playthrough, I think you're doing alright! I will just say that all pda's you find must be picked up! Most of the ones lying on the floors have important story elements. And the end-game is worth it, you'll know what I mean when you get there, but it is magnificent after going through all you do in the start.
Listen, I understand that the ocean scares you but trust me, this game is genuinely amazing in every way. Between the atmosphere, the story, the creatures, the progression, everything about this game is great in my opinion so please, make this a series.
19:09 it did gave you an indicator. When you were in the build mode and you tried placing the tube and attach it to the other, it highlighted the water pump in orange so that you could see that it is in the way.
The thing about Subnautica is that while some of the equipment is very much optional, the scanner is not. The game expects you to use it, and to actually _read_ the information it provides.
A few tips, Use the Databank more, DON'T IGNORE THE STORY, don't miss ANY PDAs, you can make a base above water for no issues with flooding, an lastly PLEASE CONTINUE this game is wonderful! i have a fear of the ocean and play it all the times hands shaking as i build a base and i avoid the void AT ALL COSTS - also i avoid the dunes - very evil...
The scanner is your best, most important tool. SCAN EVERYTHING. And read the information. To make this easier, there is an option in the menus that makes it so the game is paused when you have the PDA up. So you don't have to worry about suffocating or getting hungry or thirsty while you read and figure things out, or change the tools on your hotbar. The game doesn't give you on screen direction for a lot of stuff, that information is instead in the scan data. Scan data tells you what things can be used for, i.e. what it's for in crafting. It tells you how predators behave and therefore how to avoid them. Good luck with one of the best games ever made!
2 tips for when you go back to play more Subnautica (spoiler-free): 1) when placing habitat parts, if there's something near the wall you are going to expand, game won't allow you to place more corridors. Either plan a bit ahead or remove containers and stuff from walls (you get 100% refunded so at worst it's just a bit tedious, though it does use extra battery power which might be an issue at the earliest stages of the game). 2) PDA is really well done in this game - try to scan everything (at least ore crops, minerals, flora) and it will basically tell you where to find every ingredient. Unfortunately the game really does lack good (or any) tutorials which your video helped me realize (I have ~200hrs in Subnautica and 1 full playthrough of Below Zero so many nuances are quite obvious to me by now). Nice job slashing that exploding fish pre-explosion! Somehow, despite finishing game few times and doing plenty of crazy things I never managed to do that...
I don't know why, but I really dig your content. Usually YT is just a background on 3rd monitor but starting with your Portal series, your vids somehow get 99% of my attention and I finish them in one sitting (which is really rare for me). Thank you for making my evenings better :)
15:40 I was just watching 'About Oliver' play subnautica. He scanned the stones and was reading all the log stuff, I didn't know this myself but the PDA tells you what minerals you can find in what stone when scanned.
I remember when this game was in early access for *years.* I think the lack of proper tutorial is because of that, everyone playing at the time already knew the basics and wanted to get to new stuff, which is not great for entry-level people who don't know anything like how important the scanner is.
Just going off the intro, the editing is supreme, I thought you would have way more subscribers. RUclips has been recommending me tons of blind Subnautica playthroughs, but I think this is the one I will stick around for
@@ThroarbinGaming OK but now I saw your portal video and you describe Valve as "the steam people". If this playthrough is extremely good, I might forgive you for that.
19:04 things that are in the way of building glow yellow. Subnauticas building system is kinda finicky and the strangest things block you, so I can see your point lol
Ok I know there is a second episode now, but to get into the ship you go in through the front. There are only those big fish at the back, right side, and front of the ship. If you stay close to the surface of the water, the fish shouldn’t attack you. But I wouldn’t go there until you have a laser cutter and a propulsion cannon.
You are SO lucky you survived that reaper encounter. Reaper leviathans can one hit kill you if you’re not in a vehicle but it didn’t attack you straight on, so you didn’t get eaten immediately.
The moment you began swimming to the ship I was TENSE 😂 Remembering how you reacted to the harmless stalkers, I kinda prayed you'd avoid reapers by some sheer luck 🥲
TIPS AND INFO: 1. The Stalkers (shark- like predator fish that followed you to your pod) are not meant to neither swim like that nor be as aggressive as they were, while dangerous, they should lose interest at a certain distance, usually. I think yours were bugged. 2. You need to pick up the PDAs at the other pods you find, this will reveal more information about the story (look at the top in your TAB menu to find data logs) 3. You should look for seaglide fragments, its the first "vehicle" in the game and it will make it much easier for you to get around. You need to find them and scan them until you have enough (i think for seaglide you need to scan only 2 fragments) 4. Bases should be built in the ocean, I usually build between the red grass zone and the starter reef zone because there are a lot of useful materials there. Solar panels work underwater too. If you look through your builder tool menu you will see something called "reinfocement", if you add that to the walls of your base it will increase the integrity to prevent it from flooding. 5. Scan EVERYTHING you can, you might find use for the data logs it give you later :D and dont miss scannable fragments in the wreckages around! 6. This game is amazing, its one of those games you wish you could play for the first time again, so I envy you. If you finish the game, and listen to the story, it's one of the greatest games made imo and I dont think you'll be disappointed.
There is nothing I want more than for this video to blow up so we can see the rest of the playthrough. As someone who was in the EXACT SAME BOAT as this guy on my first playthrough I cannot tell you how badly I want to see someone else go through the experience. Misery loves company I guess
Here’s some advice you’ve almost definitely already gotten: 1. Scan everything you possibly can. This game is like Minecraft from the fact that it doesn’t directly teach you things but scanning can give you a lot of useful, but sometimes useless information. Sometimes it’s better to take a second to read stuff than to end up looking for something in the wrong place for hours. (I’d recommend scanning the different ore types) 2. Don’t be immediately afraid by everything. I know this one can be hard, and it’s completely fine to be careful, but it’s better to just come prepared with multiple life packs instead of just taking one or two and fleeing the moment you see something moving towards you. This game usually makes it clear what organisms are looking to harm you. (Once you see them of course) All being scared does is make you act irrationally and less focused.
For what its worth, those PDAs you pick up are usually audio logs from people. You have to hold tab to play them when you pick them up. Otherwise, you can play them later from your pda log.
I knew the reaper was about to happen when i saw you swiming straight to the rear of the Aroura, (the reaper's spawn point) with your head above water. And your reaction was priceless.
Btw the reason the ship exploding seemed anticlimactic is because the pod is normally supposed to spawn to the side of the ship but yours spawned behind it for some reason, it looks way better if you see it from the side
Watching people be scared of Subnautica's world is so much fun. I mean I'm included in people but Ig it's about the shared experience that makes it so entertaining
Subnautica has been the first game to ever make me scream. It was in the same exact spot as you. I went into it not knowing about the horror elements. I wish I had recorded my first experience because the new player experience was amazing. The game does get scary at times but it is genuinely worth finishing. One of my favorite single-player experiences ever. Up there with Portal, Psychonauts, and Baldur's Gate.
Hahaha my butt clenched the moment you decided to swim to the ship...And your reaction to the Reaper Leviathan was priceless ♥ And I wanna see more of your content in general with other games say maybe the Dark Souls/Elden Ring/Bloodborne games ;3 heh Please do more Subnautica!!! ^.^
At 18:35 you can see the floating pump highlighted in yellow, it's pretty easily missed admittedly, but the indication is present. Lovely video by the way, I can never get enough blind play-throughs of this game.
3:45 funny thing is that this fish or so is actually just as scared as you if you get too close. If it feels threatened it will spray acid out of its tail but never deliberately attack you
I wanna see you play more subnautica…! Also would really like to see you react to playing Pikmin, all four games are now on switch and they are mostly adorable experiences, mostly!

The Subnautica fandom tends to be insistent on people continuing, so you might be hounded for a while to continue. To be clear, I'm part of the fandom and also want you to continue 😆
The bit about a knife being a single-purpose tool is hilarious to me. Even not having played survival games, but just having seen shows like Man Vs. Wild, I know that a good knife is used for just about anything. Granted, Subnautica isn't the most simulation-style game, but it's still worth trying your tools on anything and everything. I definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone who isn't a hardcore survival game fan, but for a content creator looking for a good source to mine, Green Hell is another one to look into. Great for the kind of content creator that doesn't mind using their struggle as a source of comedy.
Man, watching you experience this just makes me sad that I can't go back in time and re-experience Subnautica from the start. If you really are looking for game recommendations the two games that immediately come to mind with that 'can only be experienced once' level of charm are Outer Wilds(not The Outer Worlds, different space game.) and Hollow Knight; a space exploration puzzle game and a action metroidvania, respectively. Both are also indie games, like Subnautica, but have significantly more polish.(Love the game, but like whatever the hell was happening to your stalkers and the Aurora's rear textures it can sometimes be pure jank.) Both are also heavily exploration based and even significantly better at directing the player. (Subnautica needs a baked in tutorial, not a pop-up, on how to re-mark objectives via the PDA and make markers pretty badly.) My only warning is, especially for Outer Wilds, that _the discovery is the game,_ and as such looking up spoilers/solutions actively sabotages the experience. There is a reason every review of the game is "10/10, amazing game, play it blind." If you want an even quirkier recommendation Baba is You is a pure puzzle game about logic and changing conceptual definitions of the world around you that will mess your brain up.
And if your looking for good RUclips content The Stanley Parable and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy are classics for a reason if more for the experience than the gameplay.
Subnautica is one of my favourites. Also i'd love to see you play Astroneer. Astroneer is a game about getting materials and discovering technology on an alien planet. There is a system of traveling between different planets and some kind of magic that you'll have to discover. It's not a survival game, but there is an oxygen system, it is not hard to manage though. It feels like more of a building and technical optimisation game, not really a survival. There are definitely some dangers to be aware of, not to be scared of though... Really would love to see you play it! Also it is a good excuse to not play subnautica, soo... (plz play it)
20:57 The tail of that Reaper Leviathan is actually visible for a few frames before you breach the surface again. Also, I really enjoy watching new, completely-blind players going into this game; I haven't searched them all out, but of the dozen or so I've seen you have been the most terrified of the farting walrus _by far_ lol (no disrespect, just find it funny.) Anyway, this vid earned a sub from me. I have a "hobbyist" interest in user interface/user experience, so seeing how someone with almost no gaming experience approaches games will be very interesting. That said: While I would love to see you play more of this (Subnautica is excellent), if it makes you physically uncomfortable I would be content with your moving on. I like watching people play games they enjoy, so if you find the game unpleasant I don't want you to force yourself to play it. :)
i got your channel recommended through your portal one video and have to say that i am going to binge your channel. seeing non gamers tackle games is just so much fun and your quality is great. keep it going :D i love subnautica and as soon as you swam towards the back of the aurora i knew that you are going to have a bad time XD. 10/10 reaction
This video popped up randomly and I LOVED it. Not everyday do you see someone hop into subnautica with 0 knowledge due to how much early access was given and the popularity. I was hoping youd see more of the “story” the game gives (yes theres story and an ending too that is all amazing) but i understand not wanting to continue. Especially with that reaper. There are quite a few scary areas including lots of open ocean natural scariness, but if you do keep playing then I am so excited to see you play!
If you can scan something, a little scanner icon will appear in the bottom right. The results will mostly help you (they are one the pda) like for example which rock drops what. Also would love to see more
PSA swimming parallel to the Aurora so you avoid the reapers will eventually lead to something of an underwater cliff. swim past and down it and you find super good ore deposits. plus it is what the PDA describes as an ecological dead zone so there is nothing to worry about :D

it is always interesting to see how people who are not fluent in game design language interact with games. Game Designers sometimes forget that visual cues are not helpful to people who don't understand what it could mean. Very fun video though!
Subnautica was my first survival game, but I found it pretty easy to figure out. You pretty much just explore, build stuff and don't forget to eat and eventually you get through it. The only advice I would give to someone that they might not think to do on their own is to use a lot of beacons so that you know where to find all the resources you need for this or that thing. Especially if you want to build a big base you need to know where all that stuff is.

2 tips for when you go back to play more Subnautica (spoiler-free):
1) when placing habitat parts, if there's something near the wall you are going to expand, game won't allow you to place more corridors.
"I kinda wanna go to the ship first tho" and heading straight to the back of Aurora - I was SCREAMING XD
15:40 I was just watching 'About Oliver' play subnautica. He scanned the stones and was reading all the log stuff, I didn't know this myself but the PDA tells you what minerals you can find in what stone when scanned.
I remember when this game was in early access for *years.*
I think the lack of proper tutorial is because of that, everyone playing at the time already knew the basics and wanted to get to new stuff, which is not great for entry-level people who don't know anything like how important the scanner is.
Just going off the intro, the editing is supreme, I thought you would have way more subscribers. RUclips has been recommending me tons of blind Subnautica playthroughs, but I think this is the one I will stick around for
wahoo!
@@ThroarbinGaming OK but now I saw your portal video and you describe Valve as "the steam people". If this playthrough is extremely good, I might forgive you for that.
@@ΒασίληςΒλάχος-τ3κ welcome to feeling old.
@@ΒασίληςΒλάχος-τ3κWell it’s true, regardless of everything else they’re known for. Steam has revolutionized the industry, for better and for worse.
Dude, I had the EXACT same table coral experience. It was just nowhere…until it was everywhere.
Can't wait for part 2
You are SO lucky you survived that reaper encounter. Reaper leviathans can one hit kill you if you’re not in a vehicle but it didn’t attack you straight on, so you didn’t get eaten immediately.
its a canon event to watch a first time subnautica player swim to the back of the aurora.. unassuming...
0:16 i see no signs i only see a Challenge, bring it on.
EVERY SINGLE RUclipsR AND PERSON IMMEDIATELY OVERSTOCKS ON THOSE STUPID ACID MUSHROOMS
The moment you began swimming to the ship I was TENSE 😂 Remembering how you reacted to the harmless stalkers, I kinda prayed you'd avoid reapers by some sheer luck 🥲
TIPS AND INFO:
1. The Stalkers (shark- like predator fish that followed you to your pod) are not meant to neither swim like that nor be as aggressive as they were, while dangerous, they should lose interest at a certain distance, usually. I think yours were bugged.
2. You need to pick up the PDAs at the other pods you find, this will reveal more information about the story (look at the top in your TAB menu to find data logs)
3. You should look for seaglide fragments, its the first "vehicle" in the game and it will make it much easier for you to get around. You need to find them and scan them until you have enough (i think for seaglide you need to scan only 2 fragments)
Here’s some advice you’ve almost definitely already gotten:
1. Scan everything you possibly can. This game is like Minecraft from the fact that it doesn’t directly teach you things but scanning can give you a lot of useful, but sometimes useless information. Sometimes it’s better to take a second to read stuff than to end up looking for something in the wrong place for hours. (I’d recommend scanning the different ore types)
21:00 bro almost got a heart attack
We need more! Subnautica gets way better after you unlock more tools
Btw the reason the ship exploding seemed anticlimactic is because the pod is normally supposed to spawn to the side of the ship but yours spawned behind it for some reason, it looks way better if you see it from the side
Glad to know every new player collects tons of acid mushrooms
Everyone, like this video! He's only seen 1 of a few leviathan's. It wouldn't be a true Subnautica experience if he didn't find all the big boy's
I mean...if you count the Reefback, he's already seen 2.
This is easily the worst Leviathan.
Hahaha my butt clenched the moment you decided to swim to the ship...And your reaction to the Reaper Leviathan was priceless ♥
And I wanna see more of your content in general with other games say maybe the Dark Souls/Elden Ring/Bloodborne games ;3 heh
Please do more Subnautica!!! ^.^
Dude u nailed that introduction!
I hope your second Subnautica video picks up more traffic! It's a lot of fun watching! Thanks!
If it feels threatened it will spray acid out of its tail but never deliberately attack you
Things can explode in space. Things can't BURN in space. But they sure can explode.
As soon as he started swimming to the back of the aurora i was like "oh no"
there is nothing better than people (with thalassophobia) playing subnautica for the first time. banger every time
Real
19:06 it did, as it highlights the thing that's preventing you from placing something by making it orange
fish 👍
of death
@@ThroarbinGaming nooo! That's jimmy, he's harmle-

I get to watch someone else experience the same abject terror I felt when I played this game, for free? Fantastic!
Loved that game. I would love to see you progress. I would subscribe if you continue playing this game.
I wanna see you play more subnautica…!
Also would really like to see you react to playing Pikmin, all four games are now on switch and they are mostly adorable experiences, mostly!
12:30 Every time he talks about Table Coral he literally looks at some and then keeps swimming!
Literally as he's saying "Table Coral" there is some just below him to the left. It's hilarious!
Absolutely love this game to bits! Everytime a content creator I like makes a blind playthrough, I just HAVE to watch it. your reaction at the end was priceless btw :P
The Subnautica fandom tends to be insistent on people continuing, so you might be hounded for a while to continue. To be clear, I'm part of the fandom and also want you to continue 😆
Sadly, you can NOT give your fish guns.
Broooo you gotta go back to the kelp lifepod and pick up that PDA! It has the blue glow.
He got it in stream 2
(Subnautica needs a baked in tutorial, not a pop-up, on how to re-mark objectives via the PDA and make markers pretty badly.)
My only warning is, especially for Outer Wilds, that _the discovery is the game,_ and as such looking up spoilers/solutions actively sabotages the experience. There is a reason every review of the game is "10/10, amazing game, play it blind."
If you want an even quirkier recommendation Baba is You is a pure puzzle game about logic and changing conceptual definitions of the world around you that will mess your brain up.
(plz play it)
Only caught the tail end of your first stream but boy that was the best first reaper encounter I've ever seen by far. Pure fear lol
hey, theres a "mod" of Portal 2 called Portal Reloaded. My brain was fried, with the _____________________.
Yeah, the portal videos do pretty well on the channel so I'll probably try all the various mods
20:57 The tail of that Reaper Leviathan is actually visible for a few frames before you breach the surface again. Also, I really enjoy watching new, completely-blind players going into this game; I haven't searched them all out, but of the dozen or so I've seen you have been the most terrified of the farting walrus _by far_ lol (no disrespect, just find it funny.)
Anyway, this vid earned a sub from me. :)
my jaw dropped when I realized you swam to the back of the Aurora 💀
8:05 "They seems to be the only aggressive fish down here.". Yup. The only aggressive fish in deep shallows.
i got your channel recommended through your portal one video and have to say that i am going to binge your channel. seeing non gamers tackle games is just so much fun and your quality is great. keep it going :D
i love subnautica and as soon as you swam towards the back of the aurora i knew that you are going to have a bad time XD. 10/10 reaction
that was the single best reaction to the reaper ever
I adore it when people face their fears in games, and subnautica is a prime example. Kudos to you sir
Watching first-time players in scary games will never not be my most favorite thing ever! Thank you for this video! You're entertaining!
If you can scan something, a little scanner icon will appear in the bottom right. The results will mostly help you (they are one the pda) like for example which rock drops what. Also would love to see more
I love your commentary. And much as the ocean scares you, I hope you continue with it! The game still has a lot of unique things to offer!
Watching blind playthroughs of Subnautica is tight!
Omg please make this a series, youre a joy to listen to and watch and I honestly couldnt believe it when I saw the sub count. Youre doing amazing!
Its cool seeing a game thats literally years old still being played today and getting the credit it deserves
PSA swimming parallel to the Aurora so you avoid the reapers will eventually lead to something of an underwater cliff. swim past and down it and you find super good ore deposits. plus it is what the PDA describes as an ecological dead zone so there is nothing to worry about :D
I first watched your portal 2 video and I got hooked to your blind playthroughs since they were genuine and seeing you play subnautica will be a great experience, I hope you do well and make more videos about more games you have no idea about
You know what WILL help with your thalassophobia? When you realize you can safely take one of those big friendly hug-fish out.
19:25 oh man i remember when this first happened to me lmao i kept repairing the leaks for 10 minutes before realizing what was happening
The way you hyperventilated is so relatable. I remember my first time playing Subnautica, my heartrate would speed up and my breathing would get heavier just by looking at the deep sea.
I’ve only just found this channel but I’m so here for you finishing. I know it’s scary but I promise the story is worth pushing through.
Whenever you die in Subnautica you lose items you gathered after leaving the safe spot (lifepod, base, etc.)
I think someone said that during the stream which is helpful, but I'm a little disappointed the game doesn't indicate as much. As far as I'm concerned, I just respawned.
@@ThroarbinGaming Fair enough, took me a while to figure it out by myself 😅
@@ThroarbinGamingDidn’t you have just 1 silver and need a second silver to craft the habitat builder before you died? I swear I remember a big reaction during the stream when you found the silver you needed, and realized you immediately lost it when you died.
it is always interesting to see how people who are not fluent in game design language interact with games.
I don’t know much about subnatica but now I’ve seen it it looks similar to grounded.
21:17 this was the moment I've been waiting for. And this was only the least scary of the leviathans. That bloody thing gave me such a jump scare, I immediately closed the game and never opened it again. I hate jumpscares.
Great video! Hope to see more subnautica soon!
19:05
It did tell you it was in the way. Things that block what you're trying to build is highlighted in yellow. Also, you should read your pda logs. They give you direction and story and gameplay tips. If you scan ore outcrops, it'll tell you what that type of outcop gives.
