Here's the real problem with EV training: they kinda DID overhaul it back in Generation 6, with Super Training! It was available in both X and Y, and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. But then they got rid of Super Training afterward. Why? D:

Also, Sword and Shield had the best EV Training. You had NPCs in Hammerlock who could reset your Pokémon’s EVs for you. Then you could go to Pokéjobs for Training Seminars. Then have the game train them for you by having your Pokémon attend the Seminars for specific timeframes. Sure it took a bit, but that meant you could focus on other things while your Pokémon were being trained! It was such a good quality of life change!

There's also a few things I've noticed about Scarlet & Violet.
The options menu no longer has the battle style feature so you can no longer swap between switch or set styles.
Important trainer battles i.e. gym leaders, elite four etc no longer carry healing items.
This one may be down to the games performance, the switch itself or both but the load times can feel horrendous.
There may be more but these are the ones I could think of at the time of writing this.

  • @AwesomeMooseSmile
    @AwesomeMooseSmile Год назад +2

The nice thing with these games is that it may look like they're making lots of money, but when you look at the ratio of how much Pokémon usually makes and the sales of switch games in comparison to other Nintendo franchises, it's not actually that much. I really hope TPC take a step back and slow the fuck down, because this is inexcusable.

The cracks were showing, to me anyway, at Sun and Moon. Fewer new Pokemon, lackluster intro, slower speed, too many old Pokemon too close to the beginning (didn't give us enough time to feel like we were in a new region, imo).
That and while the Team in SM was intentionally a joke, they were basically a holding pattern from the unintentional lameness of Team Flare.
Sad to see I was right to fear the future of the games.

I hate these games more and more. Ugly, glitchy still, no level scaling so there is actually no point to the open world, slow, the camera is a disaster, the insane pop-in, raids are a nightmare between bugs, awful mechanics, no level scaling again or way to stop players from bringing Pokemon that are weak to the boss, yet they have the audacity to release raid exclusives Pokemon, not to mention competitive teams are hard locked behind rare drops from raids since you have no other way to get tera shards or ability patches. It's an unbelievable mess. And the nerve to promote DLC when the base game is still in this state is insane to me.

The last Pokemon game I played was HeartGold and I intentionally made the game more difficult by roleplaying as a flying-type training, using a roster of only flying-types and flying adjacent (like Scizor whom evolved from a flying type). I mean since the game seems to revolve around trainers focused on one theme in their roster, the game is sort of begging the player to pick a theme and stick to it.

It's such a shame to see it in the state it's at. At a point j began saying they could release it in a glitchy state and people would still forgive it and buy it en masse. With these last 2 gens, it hurts that that is 100% true. Game Freak needs to do better; any other IP would have been dragged thru the mud for such shortcomings

These games suffer from minimal effort more than they do a lack of time. Someone who wants to do good work isn't gonna put crap like these out in the same time frame. You can see it in the work itself if you also play other games and know what passion and care for making a game actually looks like. It might have still been buggy and incomplete but I would be a bit more forgiving if they had tried to make things look good. I watched 2 brothers making their own pokemon game and produce results within a week that Gamefreak with more people and 3 years couldn't do. There's a reason the Fan games are better, it's cause the people making them like pokemon, and like making games that are good. There is a huge difference between them and Gamefreak.

Here's my solution for the VAs and games in general.
    Step 1.
Remake Gen 1 BotW. Run about an open-world Kanto with non-linear paths and a FULL dex worth of wild Pokmon to find and catch.
Step 2. Hire the VAs from the regional anime with additional actors for the player to choose for themself.
    Step 3. Profit.
Step 4. Remake Jhoto. Same deal.
Step 5. WHEN Jhoto is out, SS Anne arrives in Kanto to take players TO Jhoto. OR, you can start a New game in Jhoto with a fresh dex then go to Kanto if you want.
This would mean if you're a dedicated Gen player, you can start your Pokémon life in that region and explore the others at your discretion.
    Step 6. Profit more.

It still is pretty dang ridiculous that the mainline games had still lacked voice acting since arriving in Switch, but it’s even more insulting when it’s shown that it COULD be accomplished! New Pokémon Snap made that very clear and it just shows Game Freak incredibly reluctant when it comes to actually taking the time to spend some money on voice overs.

I agree with some of the critiques you mentioned, however two of my personal biggest issues with these games is how hunting for Shiny Pokemon is somehow both very easy, and yet very difficult at the same time, and how this generation has some of the laziest evolutions I've ever seen in a long time.
With the former, I've encounter several Shiny Pokemon without really doing anything. I've caught a Male Combee, Rockruff, Primeape, Slowbro and that Dung Beetle Pokemon with using the sandwich mechanic. However, for reasons that utterly baffle me, none of the Shinies make that sound effect to let players know that a Shiny is nearby. I honestly wouldn't be surprised that I passed by many Shiny Pokemon without me knowing because the Shiny Sound is missing. Plus, there are plenty of Pokemon that either are really tiny, or have a Shiny Form that's barely different compared to the regular form. The Paldean Tauros, those mice that are somehow a family and yet are treated as one Pokemon and of course some older Pokemon that have terrible Shines.
As for the laziest evolutions complaint, while not all of the Pokemon don't have this problem, I couldn't help but noticed that a lot of the evolution seen in Scarlet and Violet, well, they barely change. The worst examples are the Pawmo line and that family of mice Pokemon. And then there are some Pokemon who I swear should've had a second evolution.

The things that bother me the most are the choppy animations of characters or Pokémon at a distance. Honestly at first I thought it was just a hardware issue. Then there’s also the fact that the outfit options might as well not exist because of terrible uniform options.
I did like the fact that as long as you could reach the objective it didn’t matter which one you did first, at least until you skipped over an early area and come through later and just blow through the whole thing.

Talking of Legend of Zelda, I feel Pokémon would benefit from following that series's release schedule, releasing a new game every other year. Look up the release dates for Zelda games and you'll find that there's a year long gap between most titles. This, honestly, works better for the developers as it allows them to iron out all the details and issues and ensure that the gameplay experience is fun for players. Pokémon's insistence nowadays on releasing a new title every year is severely harming their quality. If a franchise like Zelda can do a bi-yearly release of a new game and still bring in the big bucks and praise from fans and critics, then Pokémon with its multiple revenue pools, such as the anime, trading card game, and merchandise can do the same.

I usually love to explore like literal 100% of the playable area in any given game and find and collect everything that's not bolted down. That's the whole point of an open world game for me. Besides, they were in pretty obvious places. Pretty easy to find. But most of people just want to Speedrun games through in 2 hours without seeing so much as 5% of its content. Even in blind playthrough they just spam A and not read anything.

You aren't wrong about wild pokemon being annoying sometimes, or that completing the pokedex is tedious... But that has always been the case.
Completing the pokedex has never been fun (for me at least) adding new (weird) evolution methods doesn't change that.
And there is a reason Zubat gets so much hate. Because you can't walk 5 steps without running into one in a cave. It wouldn't be pokemon if you didn't find yourself running into pokemon unexpectedly from time to time. That is the quintessential pokemon experience. Most of the time, if you take you time, you can avoid all encounters in a route. You can just flee or sneak around them. Yes there instance where lots of Pokemon appear and you can't avoid running into them, and it can be annoying... But let's not pretend this is a problem unique for this game. Its something that we have had to deal with since gen 1.

"Can you imagine any other gaming franchise where the fangames are better than the real ones"
Actually yes, I can, and it's one of the most beloved series, super smash brothers. A game called PMEX Remix is a game that's similar to Project M has the content of Brawl and the gameplay of Melee, but it also has a roster that unironically rivals Ultimate and, most importantly, has by far the best accessibility. You see Melee is a game that is one of the most immersive and beautiful fighting games to play because it's lack of input buffer allows for complete control of your character, the tradeoff being that it's excruciatingly difficult to get into, also there's no customizability with the controls, so if you dislike tap jump like I do, well tough shit. With PMEX, not only can you customize your controls like the later games (with the added ability of doing it in character select screen, making it easier to modify than ever), but in the new codes menu, you can customize your input buffer, so if you don't want to play with zero input buffer but still want a nice generous 3-5, hell even if you're used to Ultimate and it's disgusting 10 frames, you can do that. Not even project M or even project+ have that, and it's beautiful. As for the roster, while it doesn't have EVERYONE from Ultimate, it has a majority of the super popular additions like Ridley, Banjo Kazooie (both of which play better than their official counterparts while being in production beforehand too), King K Rool, Cloud, Bayonetta, the belmonts, Sephiroth, and even Sora. They even have some super requested characters that aren't officially playable yet like Waluigi, Geno, Bandana Waddle Dee, and Isaac, and with the exception of maybe Isaac, they're all incredibly well made and polished. They even have popular echo fighter requests like Dark Samus and Black Shadow who play unique to their counterparts.
There's also examples like Gmod being better than Half Life and Render 96 being tied with galaxy for the best Mario game, but I'm not sure those count. Point is, Pokémon being outdone by fangames isn't the most outlandish thing. There's a quote by a youtuber techrules that's essentially "no amount of developer effort will beat years of passionate fans".
Also I don't really think the magikarp run by Jrose11 is an example of the game being too easy. Not only were his strategies incredibly crafty to combat the difficulties of the run that most people wouldn't ever think of, but it was a VERY difficult run. Champion Geeta is considered a joke of a boss, but in that run it was actually super hard, bordering on almost impossible, even with the scientifically best possible magikarp. Even if he somehow got passed the Annihilape, he probably wouldn't get passed the actual final boss or maybe even penny, because in his fuecocco run, a competent Pokémon in comparison, could barely beat the A.I professor. Hell even when I did a Gardevoir run, a much better Pokémon in comparison to the other two, while it wasn't difficult or anything, there was still some difficult moments like Poppy and her tinkaton that was fairly hard to solve without overleveling. They're still easy games for sure, but it's more of an issue with the franchise overall and not just this game, afterall in red and blue, without a held item you could beat the games with almost anything and you didn't even have to be level 100, not even close.

A lot of your complaints can be addressed with
    1. Play other games and tell me they don't have the same issue
2 Yes that was annoying but not that bad
    3. But That is True of EVERY Pokémon Game
    4. You just didn't look hard enough for the hint
    5. and this one I only used a small number of times, Yah you do have a point.
There are imperfections in this game but Since I have never plaid a game that DIDN'T have these same issues Im not bothered by them.
Bottum line is if you want a better game you have to
    1. Stop pressuring companies to release for a holiday let them take the time they need to do the job right
    2. Stop making g "Lets add more features" cost money that CEOs want to cut out or spend more money with out raising the price and expect to be covered by other sales
    3. Make the counsel its self better
If you can compare the game to other Pokémon Games or other Nintendo Games then you have a point in fact those were the times I was more willing to agree with you.
To add Voice Acting for example you can't just compare it to some fan made project. Adding Voice Acting means translating it in to every Language in the world this could come at the cost of some other feature.
A lot of the fixes are that way. Putting it in means paying people and spending time and using memory
As for some of the other hints you wanted I did see NPCs who gave those hints. You just had to look for them. Though I found these hints after looking them up so it still wasn't a help. But most of you don't talk to NPCs so why so upset?
    My big complaints
    1. There ARE bugs in the game. However there are ALSO bugs in GTA, True Crime, Zelda, a lot of FPS games, Thief Simulator, House Flipper, and many other games.
    2. The Towns are boring and have nothing to explore . On top of that the school always loads you in at the main gate.
    3. Limited clothing options
    4. You can ONLY ride your bike
    5. The removal of features that were in past gen games
Other issues I apply to the WHOLE series not just this game but to ALL of Pokémon
    1. EV and IV training
    2. Voice Acting
    3. Difficulty scaling
    4. An over leveled Pokémon can sweep
    5. Bad AI
But this game improves on a lot too
    1. Raids while still slow at parts , work better
    2. wide open spaces with the Pokémon on screen and trainer battles are optional
    3. I don't have to load a bunch of moves that can not be forgotten to a Pokémon just to get around a tree in my path ... which has been true for a while
    4. Pokémon move like real animals
    5. There are always things to find. I've never run out of money and I never run out of free items to pick up
    things I would change
    1. Bring back room decorations
    2. let Pokémon learn more then 4 moves
    3. Give me the Area Zero traveling with my AI friends and doing double battles with them thing ALL the time
    4. Let Multiplayer online people be visible in area zero
    5. bring back trainer rematches with Pokémon who level up , evolve and learn new moves

I do wish GameFreak would be give or be given another year of production for their games. Each game since X&Y has lacked content and tuning more and more, especially with the post game (poor Battle Frontier) and now the Pokémon roster. It just seems that GameFreak and/or The Pokemon Company just push them out a year sooner because, like you mention, it’s Pokemon and it will still make bank.

I was wondering when you'd talk about a new Pokemon game again.
Oddly enough, slowing down a little is *another* pointer Game Freak and Nintendo could take from *fan* games. The fact that they're *still* only giving each iteration of Pokemon 3 years before releasing the next one is to the franchise's extreme detriment now. That short a gap might've been fine back on the handhelds, due to the data size difference, but it has long since migrated to an *HD* system. When Scarlet & Violet were first announced, I felt something I *never* did with *any* of the past 8 Generations: trepidation. Boy, was that vindicated in some way when they came out. They didn't even let Legends: Arceus reach it's 1-month anniversary before releasing the teaser trailer for Gen 9. At this point, Game Freak doesn't just need more workers or funding, they need to get with the times and properly adapt to the technology they currently have access to. If we were to wait 5, 6 or even 7 years for Generation 10 to come out, i'd accept that wait if it meant getting the most polished, fun, interesting and replayable Pokemon game in *ages* out of it. If Gen 10 happens in 2025, I won't be disappointed, but I will use Frustration.
And about voice acting: i've mentioned this back in the Sword & Shield review's comments, but i'll say it again because i'd really like it to happen. Game Freak, can you give Pokemon cries a new update already, especially for the pre-Generation 6 monsters? I'd just like these things to all sound like genuine creatures (in addition to *acting* like them in-game). Examples: for Charizard to sound like a dragon instead of a guitar riff, for Donphan to sound like an elephant, for Gardevoir to have an organically part human-esque, part spectral voice, and so on and so forth. Maybe keep electronic sounds for Pokemon like Magnezone, the Porygon line and Genesect, though.
As of now, the Switch has had Let's Go! Pikachu & Eevee, Sword & Shield, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet & Violet. From the looks of things, as far as Pokemon's offerings on this console are concerned, Legends: Arceus is the odd one out. And sadly, it's the odd one out for being the game they cared the most about refining *and* making appealing to everyone. The Let's Go! games were positively received, for sure, but were clearly made with a stronger emphasis on newcomer accessibility than the core games.

As for the walking evolutions, there is an exploit for them. In the bug type city, you can jump on the roof of one of the Pokemon centers. If you set your Pokemon out on the ground before you went up, they'll run in circles. If they stopped running, just shift your position a bit. There, I just saved a bunch of you hours of time. But you should really thank polygon, which is where I found this trick. That said, step evolutions are still one of game freak's most dumbass decisions.

Sucks that gym challenges are so boring now. I loved the idea of gyms that incorporated HMs into their puzzles. But Game Freak saw the 'HMs make team-building too restrictive' complaint and took the nuclear option of binning them entirely, so we'll never get those again. Also, certain moves and abilities take up slots unnecessarily, harming the Pokemon that uses them. Hydreigon can clearly fly but Game Freak already gave it two types, so it's stuck with Levitate. And while Salazzle can learn Sweet Scent, a move with a potentially useful effect outside of battle, you either need to sacrifice a move slot to use it or carry around a disposable Pokemon purely for that move.
I would rather see a 'secondary abilities' section that include HMs and more passive abilities (also Pickup, Heavy/Light Metal, Run Away...) so they're not taking up combat ability/move slots. A lot more Pokemon could use HMs if they were built-in rather than needing to be taught. Each gym should require a Pokemon capable of using that HM and teach the player how to use it through the puzzle before letting them use it in the overworld. And some mini challenges could teach players about less important field moves such as Flash or Defog.
Heck, since Pokemon Ranger is a dead series (why is there not a mobile game??), borrow the Capture Styler and have it as a way to temporarily tame a roaming wild Pokemon if you don't have a Pokemon capable of traversing a particular obstacle. You can't use the Pokemon in battle but you get to use one field ability.

I really loved this game but just bit can’t disagree with any point made. I have to highlight the dorm room. It’s such a useless room, the moment near the end where the Champion stops by your room and asks if this is the room where you honed your self to a champion. I’m like this is the 1st time I have been back to this room since it was 1st assigned to me.

exploring the map for stakes that unlock imprisoned legendries known as the disaster Pokémon is far more interesting than, enter that random cave this legendary likes to hang out in or keep entering random zones and hope you run into a legendary. seafoam islands had some interesting puzzles, but you showed the cave of origins where you literally just keep going down till you walk up to them.

    • @Codraroll
      @Codraroll 2 года назад +2

Ahh, BW2's challenge mode. Unlocked only after beating the game on Normal difficulty. And for whatever reason, so was *easy mode*.
My personal pet theory is that the game director was dead against having difficulty modes, but was forced to implement it by his bosses. However, there was some loophole that said "if the collected data from online users shows that nobody uses the alternate difficulty modes, you don't have to implement them in future games". Cue the most obnoxious implementation of game difficulty ever conceived.
