fair review, I really enjoyed this game but I didn't dare to compare the experience to the main series. I hope they will take what players liked and implement it in the future main series games. Candy was broken but for me it was great since I could play all the battles with Sandshrew and Rhyhorn which are my favourites (just boosting their speed and special defense a bit). And I ran a nuzlocke (catching only the first pokemon that popped up, level cap-ing my pokemon on the next gym leader and using only as many pokemon in a fight as gym leaders) sadly it took out some surprises since I had to check levels and pokemon numbers online before fights but it made it more challenging and Misty was a fucking whore with her Scald Starmie. Made the game more memorable and fun
Personally I hate the new catching mechanics. It takes all the fun and challenge out of catching Pokémon. You talked about how tedious the original method was but the new one is infinitely worse in that aspect. You just mindlessly throw balls and just hope they work. At least in the old system you could make it easier with some basic strategy, the new system is just mindless.

I was gonna get this when I eventually got a switch but with how skewered and neutered they made this game, if I did do that I’d just be throwing away money. I’ll just be here waiting for the next generation Pokémon game that returns things to normal thank you very much.
I honestly think that the more you know about Pokemon and how it works, the less fun it is. It is the perfect example of ignorance is bliss. I used to love Pokemon games but the day I learned about natures, EVs, eggs mechanics etc. etc. etc. my OCD kicked-in because I wanted "the best" I just couldn't cope since it was all so hard and the odds unlikely, that it kinda broke my heart haha Never touched these games since Diamond...

Suspect, I've always been such a huge fan of your work. Your well delivered dark humor, your PHENOMENAL editing skills you incorporate into your videos, and just all around charismatic approach to talking about these medias. I just wish there was more of that! I understand that the RUclips algorithm is a total bitch when it comes to content, but it would really be a good idea to maybe add a little more comedy into these videos, and show off you're prowess with editing. I understand how difficult making these videos are, especially on a basis that RUclips requires, but I think your channel would do far better if you let loose some more it these things. Either way, keep up the good work, and I hope I see your channel grow!
You can fly?? I played the entire game and post game and never figured out that the starters could fly because of the stupid menu design. Your video literally taught me how to use fly and I haven't touched the game in 4 weeks

This explains so much! I had assumed leveling worked like every other game in the series where trainers give more xp than wild Pokémon so I constantly found myself underleveled and getting wrecked by trainers I never had problems with in Leaf Green.
Hate to tell ya, that's not a very good title anymore. It has aged like rotten milk and is nothing like the good titles from the past. You'll have more to do in Let's Go than in Yellow and actually enjoy something without bugs and unbalanced battles.
I love Eevee's specialty moves in this game. Attacks that set up screens and leech seed, I've always wanted those kinds of moves, and they're 90 base power moves. It would be awesome if Eevee in the main games could learn 1 of these moves based on which Eeveelution it evolved into. That would be amazing and automatically make every Eeveelution vastly more competitively viable
To be fair, you can use Sky Dash through the Town Map, which is much faster. It's how I do it. Since the map is the first item you get, it's right there near the top of the bag. You can even move it to the top. It's still annoying, but it works much better than the Play With option.

I always found the Super Training from X/Y to be a more convenient way to raise your Pokémon's stats, even if it was tedious...very tedious. Also, you named your Gengar "Give Up."? You're awesome. Also, I have to disagree about the friendly rival. Everyone in the region is already picking a fight with you, do we really need another jackass to regularly run into? I personally appreciate people that can get shit done without feeling the need to be a pompous brat to everyone including their Pokémon and their own grandfather, Blue. Honestly, what you said sort of comes off as reinforcing the notion that only assholes get anywhere.
One minor thing: this is deliberately not a core Pokemon game. It was announced, marketed and sold as a new, transitional series between GO and the main series. Minor thing, and doesn't really excuse the missed opportunities, but still.
Yeah, but they're still charging full RRP with a £50 accessory. Let's Go is the most expensive Pokemon game yet (even without the Pokeball Plus accessory cos its on Switch), but it's the lightest on content. I'd go easier on the game if the price reflected this. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy sold for a budget price, Let's Go should've done the same I think. Nothing wrong with doing a lighter, more streamlined version of Pokemon, but the price should be adjusted accordingly.

There is not a single point here that I disagree with, though maybe that's because I don't have high opinions of most Pokemon games. I think My personal problem with this game is that Your Pokemon has less of value than the recent entries in the series 1. You can't pet them unlike pikachu and eevee. 2. The dont impact overworld traveling unless specific ride pokemon. Like why not have HM as a separate thing that doesn't remove your moves slot instead of just your starter assisting with surfing and flying. 3. Due to only using your pokemon for trainer battles they don't have much purpose in wild encounters. 4. You can just solo the game with one Pokemon if you wanted to which really devalues catching other pokemon other than exp. & finally 5. There is no competitive scene for this so raising powerful pokemon doesn't feel worth it. My hope is that gen 8 they have a purspose and more use than just trainer battles.
I would have been fine with anything that Pokémon Let’s Go would have done had they not nerfed one important factor: *WE CAN’T BATTLE WILD POKÉMON!* I could forgive that detail for just Pokémon Go because it was a spin off game. But even with the very first games, we were always able to battle Pokémon and weaken them down in order to catch them. That was half the fun and experience of the game! And now in lieu of that is the same mechanics from Go. And I’m sorry, but that DOESN’T cut it for the main series. If they use this for honest to Arceus Gen VIII games, then I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ll be DONE with them after 21 long years of playing them. So if I was thinking about buying these games before, I sure as Hell won’t buy them after this. Gotta catch em’ all.... except *this* one.
One thing that always confuses me about Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee is why do we need ANOTHER Gen I remake? We already have FireRed and LeafGreen years ago, so who make another remake? Especially one that's inferior compare to the original remakes.

1:29 - Well I was able to get the bundle (albeit the Eevee version since it was literally the only one that was available at the time) for the price of the game itself in my nearest Wal-Mart just a couple of days ago, so it's worth it. Besides, even at this point and after watching the conference video where this was announced, I still think you had too many expectations for something that is part remake/ part Go companion. It's more of a 7.5 out of 10 for me. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to begin my Journey anew with Eevee until I can get the Pikachu version at a lower price.

Yeah, I disagree on a handful of points- mostly about catching and breeding, since I definitely preferred the older system for both of those- but especially with the balance of exp... It doesn't make sense to give experience for catching if your Pokemon aren't involved, since that influences their battle level. If Pokemon had two sorts of levels, one to make it easier to catch things and one for battling and they gave separate xps, sure, go for it; but that's not the case, and taking a level three Metapod through the elite four will have it get to level thirty four, at most. That's just disheartening. I don't find the new catching system fun because you can't really influence anything except with a timing minigame. Sure, having different ratings of catches is neat if you have to aim, but all you can do is decide what to throw and when; it's like the Safari Zone but with motion controls, and I've always kinda hated the Safari Zone. Further, given that you should be getting super high catch chains for prepping your team and whatnot, catching's too much /work/. It took me half an hour to get a fifteen catch chain on heckin' Weedle, and at that point I was just getting bored. That being said, with that catching mechanic in mind, the choice to not have breeding in makes sense; you're already able to farm for everything you need from it with just long enough catch chains, and breeding was pretty annoying, honestly, as someone who's done a ton of it and will be doing a ton more. Ultimately, I'd tie it back to the fundamental loop of battling, I think; make it so that wild Pokemon might drop eggs, and eggs would hatch when you won three battles with them in your party (or maybe make them items instead, since the Pokemon Box is an item now?) That would make breeding a lot more fun, even if you still have to run back and forth to get eggs, since it gives you something else to stare at than a retreating back. I also disagree with you on candy and the master trainers, though not too much. Candy was mishandled, but I really like that it essentially lets you use any Pokemon you want for the story; that being said, I've beaten the Crystal version elite four with three not fully evolved Pokemon in my party and seeing battle, so really it just makes it easier to do that. That being said, I'd really like for it to be easily obtainable without catching; it's candy, after all. Let me buy it. Maybe have it so that master trainers will sell their particular species candy? And, making it so each stat can go up so high is a mistake, too; if I was making the game, I'd base the amount of improvement available on the BST of the Pokemon in question, so that a fully-candied Beedrill could have similar stats to a fully-candied Machamp, and I'd make it so there was an additional menu to let you select how much candy to use at any given time. Master trainers are way too high level, though, at least for not fully evolved Pokemon; if we're just gonna be using Weedle, which literally only can know String Shot and Poison Sting, then just let them be level five instead of fifty. That being said, it's a cool concept; having trainers which specialize in one specific Pokemon or family of Pokemon, and then you having to use that same Pokemon to defeat them is neat. It's just on the, y'know, actually doing it that Gamefreak faltered. Ultimately, I think I'd give it the same score as you, though for slightly different reasons.

The game looks like fun to play with my 5 year old daughter, while helping her learn to read and me doing the grinding bits as needed. But yeah... can't fault your review either. Shame it doesn't offer more, as the game does have its charms.
The fact you listed all those buttons that could have been uses quick keys among other things proves this game was nothing more than a lazy cash grab nothing more. Because all that busy work wouldn't be there if they were being genuine with the first Pokemon mainstream game on the console but then this one be a remake of Pokemon Yellow now wouldn't it if they were sincere, well hopefully this will be like the difference between X and Y and Alpha & Omega, where Alpha and Omega fixed and improved on what X and Y tried to do X and Y being the experimental phase, in Omega and Alpha being done refined Improvement. Because this game doesn't give me too much hope if it doesn't in the next console release

I don’t think Pokémon Let’s Go is for me. Personally, I’d probably rather play Pokémon Red, Blue, or Yellow on my 2DS. Honestly, you’d be a great consultant for game developers. You’re great at giving constructive criticism very respectfully.
The fly mechanic, and other modes of moving should have player-chosen buttons, like in Sun/Moon.

1:29 - Well I was able to get the bundle (albeit the Eevee version since it was literally the only one that was available at the time) for the price of the game itself in my nearest Wal-Mart just a couple of days ago, so it's worth it. Besides, even at this point and after watching the conference video where this was announced, I still think you had too many expectations for something that is part remake/ part Go companion. It's more of a 7.5 out of 10 for me. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to begin my Journey anew with Eevee until I can get the Pikachu version at a lower price.

The fact your eevee/pikachu starts with maxed out 31/31 IV’s is kinda ridiculous, you just start with an absolutely perfect Pokemon

Yeah, I disagree on a handful of points- mostly about catching and breeding, since I definitely preferred the older system for both of those- but especially with the balance of exp... It doesn't make sense to give experience for catching if your Pokemon aren't involved, since that influences their battle level. If Pokemon had two sorts of levels, one to make it easier to catch things and one for battling and they gave separate xps, sure, go for it; but that's not the case, and taking a level three Metapod through the elite four will have it get to level thirty four, at most. That's just disheartening.
I don't find the new catching system fun because you can't really influence anything except with a timing minigame. Sure, having different ratings of catches is neat if you have to aim, but all you can do is decide what to throw and when; it's like the Safari Zone but with motion controls, and I've always kinda hated the Safari Zone. Further, given that you should be getting super high catch chains for prepping your team and whatnot, catching's too much /work/. It took me half an hour to get a fifteen catch chain on heckin' Weedle, and at that point I was just getting bored.
That being said, with that catching mechanic in mind, the choice to not have breeding in makes sense; you're already able to farm for everything you need from it with just long enough catch chains, and breeding was pretty annoying, honestly, as someone who's done a ton of it and will be doing a ton more. Ultimately, I'd tie it back to the fundamental loop of battling, I think; make it so that wild Pokemon might drop eggs, and eggs would hatch when you won three battles with them in your party (or maybe make them items instead, since the Pokemon Box is an item now?) That would make breeding a lot more fun, even if you still have to run back and forth to get eggs, since it gives you something else to stare at than a retreating back.
I also disagree with you on candy and the master trainers, though not too much. Candy was mishandled, but I really like that it essentially lets you use any Pokemon you want for the story; that being said, I've beaten the Crystal version elite four with three not fully evolved Pokemon in my party and seeing battle, so really it just makes it easier to do that. That being said, I'd really like for it to be easily obtainable without catching; it's candy, after all. Let me buy it. Maybe have it so that master trainers will sell their particular species candy? And, making it so each stat can go up so high is a mistake, too; if I was making the game, I'd base the amount of improvement available on the BST of the Pokemon in question, so that a fully-candied Beedrill could have similar stats to a fully-candied Machamp, and I'd make it so there was an additional menu to let you select how much candy to use at any given time. Master trainers are way too high level, though, at least for not fully evolved Pokemon; if we're just gonna be using Weedle, which literally only can know String Shot and Poison Sting, then just let them be level five instead of fifty. That being said, it's a cool concept; having trainers which specialize in one specific Pokemon or family of Pokemon, and then you having to use that same Pokemon to defeat them is neat. It's just on the, y'know, actually doing it that Gamefreak faltered.
Ultimately, I think I'd give it the same score as you, though for slightly different reasons.

The game looks like fun to play with my 5 year old daughter, while helping her learn to read and me doing the grinding bits as needed. But yeah... can't fault your review either. Shame it doesn't offer more, as the game does have its charms.

The fact you listed all those buttons that could have been uses quick keys among other things proves this game was nothing more than a lazy cash grab nothing more. Because all that busy work wouldn't be there if they were being genuine with the first Pokemon mainstream game on the console but then this one be a remake of Pokemon Yellow now wouldn't it if they were sincere, well hopefully this will be like the difference between X and Y and Alpha & Omega, where Alpha and Omega fixed and improved on what X and Y tried to do X and Y being the experimental phase, in Omega and Alpha being done refined Improvement. Because this game doesn't give me too much hope if it doesn't in the next console release
