On this day I finally got to experience what an xDrive BMW is all about. It was cool to experience and big shout out to Sal for making it happen. An AWD 340i feels a lot different since I've been driving a RWD F30 since 2018. It just has a totally different feel. It provides a lot of confidence on road and I know it would be a big help in the snow or rain with proper tires. Hope this video helps you to decide if you're shopping for an F30. I went X drive on my F30 340i because coming from Quattro Audi's I just like to have the confidence to point and shoot without the drama of wheel spin. Rwd is totally cool, I can completely understand for some applications may be the preference for different purposes but I'm happy with AWD. Great video! 👍
That is a nice aspect about X-drive. Don’t have worry as much about losing control and driving off the road 😂. Can still get some under steer while cornering, but that launch confidence is nice. Thanks bro! And thanks for tuning in! 🙏🏼

crashed my rwd m340 here in florida on a wet road and just picked up an xdrive the digs are insane and with the constant rain having the xdrive makes it feel more planted ALL the time

I got RWD because I didn’t want the extra weight of the chassis bracing and I didn’t want to maintain a transfer case and front differential
Feel that! The weight is a major difference for me coming from a RWD car.
If I were in Florida, I would get RWD. However, I live in the North East and there is too much snow and ice to count on a RWD for my daily driver. Honestly, the AWD 340 rotates well in turns and is a lot of fun. Pick the right tool for the job, I would go AWD in the Northern States.

My first BMW was a 2014 F30 335xi, 6speed manual and was pretty much fully loaded. Loved that car and was made well aware of the cheap chargepipes after they failed lol.
One of the annoyance of the X-drive was (at the time 2014) there was limited suspension options. You also need to keep the rolling diameter in a certain ratio in order to not affect the diff. Solid video.
The one that started it all 😆. Great point on the suspension! Limited options but still able to make it work nowadays to achieve the stance and fitment you want. Thanks for bringing that up brotha and thanks for watching 🫡
Great video. Ive owned a rwd 440i and currently have an xdrive version (got totaled, some guy in poland fixed it and is driving it now lol). You made some good points, especially concerning the weight differences. Awesome platform and cars all around tho
I have a ‘17 xDrive with BM3 stage 2 and xHP stage 2 with a catted DP. It spins all 4 wheels when launched. Does a 1.7s 60ft and 11.7s quarter mile as it sits. Love this platform. I’m in Tampa, let me know if your ever out this way.

Haha, brand new tires on the factory 403M 19’s. Yea very happy with the results for what it is. Dorch stage 2 pump next to run a e50 blend.
Really great comparison video between the two. I personally don’t own a 340 but after watching his video I think I’d go with the RWD option just for the weight savings and because I like my cars to be a little tail happy 😁

Drive because of amazing launches and ultimate grip in the rain to carry some high speed with ease.
It mainly depends on where you live. Do you get snow or go up in mountains? If not, get the RWD.
Also driving style. Some of us love to launch our cars and race from a dig. Plus we love to drive fast in the wet.
Then there are times we don’t care and want to drift down back roads enjoying it. Till we get caught going sideways by someone’s dashcams. I love being obnoxious at 50 years old.
This was a really helpful video I’m abt to graduate from software engineering bootcamp and I’m eyeing the 340i xdrive when I get a job in the field, I like the xdrive cuz of the acceleration but I probably would get a g35 sedan as a drift and for fun car I’m all about drifting sometimes. I’m gonna do on it, but yeah g35 seems practical maybe lower it a bit and get angle kit and some wheels, some performance mods to make it handle well so it won’t be stock

The xdrive doesn’t split the torque evenly in sport+ if anything it send more power to the rear to get more of a rwd feel. Probably 20/80 front/rear

If the 340i came with a LSD, I think the RWD model would even better but they reserve that for the M models. If you touching 500hp you need xDrive because a 255mm width tire is about all you can fit on a square stance and -/+ 275mm with offset. But balance is everything and you can tune the torque down by gear these days with BoostMod
Can always install the LSD if you got it like that lol. I’m around 480-490 to the wheels on E50 with RWD and I love breaking the back end a lil loose sometimes. Too much fun. Prefer the feel over xdrive

I bought my 2011 bmw 328i xdrive in Nebraska, because I needed. If I get a 340i, I'll probably go for Rwd, since I'm back in Texas. What did he mean about the timing chain? Thought the m3/m4 were the only ones with the crank hub issus.
Timing chain issues pertain to the N20 motor in the 2012-2015 F chassis models. They were made with weak plastic guides that were prone to breaking which could then grenade the engine. Yea, crank hub only major issue in the F8x chassis

@@MickeyGlover what Kylar said is a great definition, when I said that I was referring to my previous F30 328i which had the N20, luckily I never ran into any issues for the time I had it, and the new owner said she’s holding up nicely. It’s really a hit or miss with the N20 you get a good one where the guides survive or they don’t lol. My dad actually has an N20 and he has about about 132k miles on it so it all depends on if you got one of the lucky ones and ofc how you treat and maintain the car.

Not often. I'd have to floor it pretty hard to get the wheels to spin with traction off. I'm on Michelin PS4S tires which are great tires, and have been on them for almost a year and they're still good tread wise
The RWD drive is for more advanced drivers, I had x-drive xdelete and RWD. Xdelete can be downright dangerous, Still, it's worth it. RWD for the most driving pleasure
Especially with power mods RWD is easier to get lost in the sauce 😂. I agree though, more fun to let the back end get loose sometimes
The newer traction control system is pretty advanced. I'm on RWD and with DSC on, it's not easy to lose your tail.
I just got an xdrive 340 though I really wish it was rwd. I settled though because it was a 6speed and I couldn’t find any more that were rwd with low miles.
At least you got a manual! Can always do and X-delete flash but it’s not the same because of the extra weight up front

Up to your preference. 5 series will be bigger bodied but also be a step more luxurious. Try to test drive both of you can!
With that type of power you want the awd , right? From what I understand AWD is .2 seconds faster to 60 on stock.
I mean it’s all preference. I prefer RWD bc I’m in Florida, don’t see snow, and like how the car feels being lighter with power only going to the back wheels
the transfercase is one part you are going to hate the xdrive and also the front axle. your moding selection will be greatly limited.

I’m still 50/50 on this I’m thinking of getting a 340i soon but not sure if I should go with RWD or AWD I live in Michigan the home of potholes and unpredictable snow which makes me want to go with AWD but deep down I want to burn tires and spin my car around so idk 😂
I have a 328i xdrive and it’s fun and all attacking corners in the summertime just need more power
I feel you haha I came from a 328i as well. I think you can get away with RWD in Michigan. Maybe just have a set of snow tires for the winter

How really RWD is dangerous? For example for drivers that had only FWD cars? For example in snow or rain if you drive slowly you can still have a problem? I thinking about RWD and Xdrive right now and don't have experience with RWD, a lot of people tell me that I will get used to RWD.
It really depends on the driver and tires, but if you keep traction on it's not that dangerous in the rain. I honestly don't have much experience with driving RWD in the snow but if you have a good set of winter tires and even chains if you're going up/down slopes you should be alright. Do you live in a snowy climate?

I'm from Ukraine and yes sometimes we have really snowy winter and sometimes it's just cold without snow) just mud) But honestly I don't drive a lot in the hard snowy climate even on FWD) So I think if it will be really bad weather I just will skip driving in this day)

Well from off the line, AWD all day. AWD is heavier, so at a roll, RWD might be able to take it. All relatively similar though

The x drive need XHP 3 it’s much better then 2 and air box and charge pipe doesn’t do anything in terms of performance.don’t do x delete trust me you won’t like it, the x drive takes off better it’s more stable on the road and you’ll do better times then RWD

I drove a couple of kilometers in the car and already know what's better. To evaluate rear-wheel drive, you need to do some drifting. And there you go, driving like a retiree and telling us what's better.

The Supra is way smaller obviously so if you’re over 6’ it’s not the most comfortable car IMO. I’d prefer an M240i
