I've had/have both. Both great engines. And technically the S58 debuted in the F97 X3M, the first car to come out with the S58. Even the S58's used in the video are the one out of the X3M with the air intakes on top of the engine.
I had the B48 (4 cyl) in the 2017 230i I leased. In the roughly 43,000 miles I had it, it had no engine problems whatsoever. Now, I own the S58 in my 2024 M2. I only have 3,100 miles on the M2, so no problems either. Granted, since both engines were/are low mileage, I can’t speak to how reliable they are long-term. They are both fantastic engines, as I’m sure the B58 is.
price per horse power, b58 all day. but the s58 is basically a revised and beefed up b58 with much more potential for higher numbers. but cars that contain the s58 are priced high af, where you can target 800whp for a lot less money with a b58 car.
The B58 is better at 2 things, better sound and better gas milage. For everything else s58 takes it. Hell, it makes 700whp on a downpipe and tune... b58's struggle to make 500 in that shape. You put the chassis reinforcement on top of that and you can see why it's a better package.
Stupid input. Of course it’s going to make more power stock vs stock when the B58 comes with one small turbo compared to the s58s two. Be logical. A cheap hybrid turbo upgrade is all it takes to make 700+ whp lol
@chujiqvq4955 stock for stock and mod for mod. Upgrade the turbo on the S58 and it'll win again. It's better bro, just accept it. This is like an Ecoboost Mustang tryna convince people it's better than the Coyote.
Epic video! As a previous owner of M340i and current own of G80 M3, I really appreciate this comparison. I feel like you really have to drive it to pick which is the best for YOU. At stock, B58 really excels at low end torque and below 2,000 RPM, I do feel like B58 has a great advantage as a daily and casual weekend driving. However, once you are above 3,000 RPM, the S58 just put you into a different zone. When tuned, story becomes more complicated, if you are just lightly modify both engines (no engine built), then the ultimate build of B58 is where the S58 starts with; however, if you are heavily tune (like re-build the engine etc.) and face a possible engine failure, then the gap quickly reduced considering the much more expensive S58 price tag. Overall, both are great I6 engine options and a lot of time, the choice is more about which car you want to get instead of which engine to choose lol!
I had a m340i stage 2 for 3 years, it was an excellent car, now I have a M3 comp. only ( exhaust valvetronic , intake and downpipes) I have driven it for a year and you can't compare a b58 with an s58 it's totally different, basically it's a series 3 vs real m3… similar ford mustang eco boost vs ford mustang Shelby .
The b58 is great for every day driving and becomes a beast on an mhd stage 2 tune. if your budget allows then just go straight to the s58, because either way you're going to be satisfied.
Both are extremely good and reliable. I have a 22’ G80 M3 Comp pretty modified for a little over 3 years now and I absolutely love it way more than my F80 I had prior for 4 years, FBO etc. I also daily a 21’ X3 M40i for all of that B58 goodness. Lightly modified. Both are damn good in their own ways and both sound amazing the way I’ve done the exhaust on both. M3 is around 22.5k miles atm, X3 over 40k No issues thus far except maintenance or other minor things.
I just can't over the fact that I'd have to be okay with not really getting to drive the vehicle. I love the style with the term "fishbowl" no tint and the sunroof open. The M lineup seem to all have a carbon roof. Someone make a S58 powered G series with a sunroof, to me the hardest flex out there

These kind of videos, like the A90 vs A80 or B58 VS TWOJAYZEEE divides the community and puts more hate that already on the B58. Both engines are different and persevere in different ways. The B58 is an all arounder while he S58 is the top dog when it comes to bolt on power but the B58 is better in term of reliability and price range. Cost DOES play a role when it comes down to engine performance overall.
From what I know without having technical manuals in front of me, it is the same part design and TQ/HP limits, but not the same part itself. I know Red Bull’s drifting team uses 2 900+HP S58 BMW M’s with no issues, however they’ve spent thousands building the engine
This is false.....The S58 is a heavily modified b58. Find me a tuner who complains about the s58's rods who are tuning them 800hp+ on stock internals. That's why s58 is so good, especially on what you can get on stock internals.
@@shoe3k Everyone knows about this lol. Go read the forums. The weakest point in the s58 are its conrods. It kinda makes sense though why theyre bending...twin turbos are notorious to make huge amounts of torque down low. The s58 runs s63 rods for quicker reving and so on. The s63 was known for bending them after tuning.

s58 dead 💀
S58 is garbage
People who say b58 is better than the s58 doesn’t know anything and is in denial
Exactly that’s why fastest bmw is b58 7.6 but s58 7.7!
I love all the facts but I’m pretty sure ur wrong saying that the G bmw’s came out in 2019, wasn’t it 2021 bc for example the F82 and F32 ended in 2020 not in 2018
These kind of videos, like the A90 vs A80 or B58 VS TWOJAYZEEE divides the community and puts more hate that already on the B58. Both engines are different and persevere in different ways. The B58 is an all arounder while he S58 is the top dog when it comes to bolt on power but the B58 is better in term of reliability and price range.
Cost DOES play a role when it comes down to engine performance overall.
This is the perfect synopsis >
B58 is still the fastest bmw ever made ever to this date 2024
S58🇩🇪 BMW 💪✌️👌👍😎
The biggest weakness in the s58 are its rods!! The b58tu has better rods then the s58. The s58 uses the notorious s63 rods then love to bend.
Both engines runs FORGED rods, but s58 had the lighter ones (not weaker). Lighter and forged pistons only for s58.
