I have a 2016 Specialized Sirrus Elite Disc.......basically the Sirrus 3.0 version but for 2016. Very solid bike and fun to ride around on for both fitness and leisure. I would recommended either the Sirrus 2.0 or 3.0 as really great bikes. In fact, I would try out this type of style from any of the other major manufacturers like Trek (FX), Cannondale (Quick), or Giant (Escape) and see what fits you best. If you don't/aren't into a road style bike or a big trail/mountain bike, the hybrids are a terrific all around bike. They all ride the road great and do well on mostly flat, fire road type trails/standard walking trails. These bikes are simply great commuter, city, road, light trail, fitness, and leisure bikes. You can ride 20 or 30 miles on them without difficulty or just hop on and ride around the neighborhood on these types of bikes.
I bought the 2023 model of this in Mystic Blue....beautiful bike! The only bad thing for me is a little too much pressure for me on the handlebars which I wanted to avoid.....but it was a comfortable boring ride, or this! Biggest thing the new ones loose are the extra reflective features on the upper frame. They also went BACK to Shimano after trying and failing with MicroShift.
I bought an almost identical Sirrus back in 2015. I thought I made a good choice and thought I got a good deal. But I only rode it a few times and never did take to it. It was not a fast bike at all. I don’t remember what size tires it had, but it needed faster ones for sure. Recently I got a 2022 or 2023 Trek FX 1 and I’m frankly surprised. It looks like the same type of bike as the Specialized was, but for some reason it’s nicer. I don’t know why, but it just rides better.
It looks like pretty standard issue for a fitness hybrid in the ~$600 range. I am, however, happy to see that these bikes are slowly getting away from 3x drivetrains. While 3x systems may have some limited utility (for instance, long distance touring), the sort of folks who would buy this type of bike would never need it, nor know how to properly use it. Entry-level bikes would be better served by 1x drivetrains -- they are easy to use and idiot-proof. They are also lighter and have a nice, clean look. But bike manufacturers could no longer market low-end bikes as "21 speeds," or the like.
I wish 1x would be the norm, with wide ratio cassettes I think we should move on from front derailleurs. It's a horrible engineering solution and not easy to use or maintain especially on lower end drivetrains using freewheels which normally have a slight wobble which means dialling in shifting is more difficult. When cyclists are riding along with buses and articulated lorries etc you don't want them struggling with their gears and shifting which takes their concentration away from the road same logic can be applied off-road where a lapse of concentration could cause a major injury or even death. So many of the gears overlap anyway and the chain line can be wrong if you use the gears incorrectly it's just a rubbish engineering solution. It's like when you see a sales assistant explaining using gears to customers, you have 21 gears but you don't use big-big or small-small because of the chain line and you may find it won't shift into big-big and the chain will become too loose if you go small-small and the customer replies how many gears can I actually use then and why is it called 21 gears if at least 2 you can't use. It just becomes a farcical conversation and the customer is looking slightly confused and feeling like they have made the wrong buying decision.
Thanks James for the video, I was so impressed by your presentation of the Sirrus 2.0 I decided to buy one and boy am I glad I did, it's a lovely ride and great looking too especially in this hyper green, love the hydraulic disc brakes too, I would definitely recommend this bike, my main use is for fitness rides 10 to 20 miles and general cruising around 🙂
Just bought this bike today same color and all. I love it! for the price you cant beat it. It's perfect for me and I get a killer workout in and that's what I was looking for. No need to spend 1k to 2k on a bike. Hell, I ride dirt bikes I'd rather spend that kind of $ on the new YZ125FX by Yamaha!!!

Hi James! Fantastic video.! I have a question, is this bike suitable for some not paved but dirt roads? I am looking for something mainly for paved road but if necessary I don’t want to be afraid to go through some dirt roads. Is this bike only for road or a kind of a cross?
Hi mate, I’m looking at this bike the Specialized Sirrus 1.0 2020 Hybrid Bike or the Specialized Crosstrail Mech Disc 2020 Hybrid Bike. Only issue with this bike and the sirrus 1.0 is they have 14 gears we’re the Crosstrail one has 21 gears. Which would you recommend that I go for? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
I got a cirrus 4.0 about a month ago. it's a great bike for commuting around and decent on gravel and trails. definitely not a road bike, as I eat dust watching cyclists pass me uphills or on flats but great for having the option to be on road or trails :)
Does this compare to the Cannondale treadwell 2? Can you let me know? The Cannondale costs 75 bucks more and it’s an 8 speed I believe? Just want something for everyday usage on trails and pavement rides throughout the city. Thanks for the review.
Hey James! I am in doubt getting the Sirrus 2.0. I have MTB, Trek X-Caliber 9, 27.5 from 2016, but, not long ago, I moved in a big city in Germany, and kinda the MTB is hard/heavy to ride in the street/parks. I am in search for getting some fitnes bike, with MTB geometry and quite speedy, and Sirrus catch my eye, and it is quite affordable! Would you recommend it? Will I see real difference in the effort and speed in the city compared to my MTB? Thanks!

I’m struggling to find a bike for my needs, I ride fast and have always gone for a hybrid with 21gears assuming that is going to get me going as fast as I need to go, but am seeing so many bikes now with less gears ⚙️ I’ve looked at the sirrus x 3.0 1x10 and this 2x8 also a Scott sub 50 3x8 , what would you think is best for me and would the 24 gear Scott be the faster on the flat All help much appreciated
I’ve been watching some of your vids thinking about getting into cycling to help lose some weight. Which would you recommend between the sirrus 2.0 and the trek fx 2 or either one for a first time cyclist. Thanks in advance
James, great video! I have been watching several over the past few days and greatly appreciate how informative you are. I am in the market for a hybrid, flat bar bike that I can do 30 mile rides on. I don't want a road bike but I do spend a majority of the ride on the road but enjoy doing gravel trails in Illinois. I have been loyal to Trek specifically FX series for years but I have been reseraching Giant, Felt, and Specialized. For $750 to $1,000 what bike should I be looking at? The sirrus 3.0 seems to be a solid option. Thanks for answering and keep up the great work!
I bought this bike about a week ago and it's a solid bike. I use it to workout, commute, or just cruise around on. I highly recommend buying one if you're interested in a flat bar hybrid.
I asked a question on your other video about the Sirrus X 2.0 but other than the color, are there any differences between these two? I'm trying to get either one of these or the Trek FX 2. Honestly, I'll go with your choice. Thanks in advance
I'm on a budget and torn between this and trek fx2. Trek is 100 quid cheaper though. I ride around 20 miles everyday on shity bad city roads (London) . Trek seems a bit lighter but not massively but really loving the colour and look of specialised. Any advice welcomed.
To make a long story short I went in to purchase two bikes. One for my son and myself. He got the X so I wanted something different and was sold on the 2.0. I love it and wouldn’t take it back. Just seeing if anyone had any experience swapping out the tires in this platform since it so new.
Hey james, Just watched your video. Amazing. Thank you for sharing with us. I'm here trying to decide which bike I should get...the Sirrus X 2.0 or Trek FX3 Disc. Could you tell me what I should go for...I dont know how to decide this.
Any recommendations on tire pressures. They shop that I purchased the bike had them set at 45 psi. The tire itself states 85-95 I believe. When I increased them to 80 I felt every dam bump on the road. Is 45psi the ideal pressure?
Thank you. I knew something was a bit off when I pumped those tires up to 80psi. The bike felt extremely uncomfortable. I will drop the tire pressure’s.
Hi James, thanks for the review. I had originally been looking to get the Sirrus 2.0 but then I looked at the Sirrus X series since it seemed to be better for off-road. I'm a bit unsure about switching to 1X gearing on the X, especially for hills and such. I've always had bikes with 24 or 27 gear positions. Now I can't try any of these out since the bike shops are all shut for the foreseeable future. What do you think of the 2.0 versus the X 2.0?
Regarding the 1x gearing, look at what the total ratio is, theres a good chance it gives you a similar range relative to the normal sirrus. I have the Sirrus 2.0 and its fine on dirt road/path type riding. Could always throw different tires on if you want a bit more grip
any thoughts on the Sirrus 2.0 2020 vs Giant escape 2 2020? I have narrow my search to these two. Would appreciate any input. I will use the bike mostly for riding in the city and paved bike trails. Thank you!
Hey James, great job on another great video! Have you had a chance to look at the Sirrus 4.0? I was originally thinking the X 5.0 but I'm wondering if I'm able to throw 42 tires on the 4.0 and turn it into a carbon flat-bar gravel bike. Kind of like the Sirrus X 5.0 minus the Future Shock but $500 cheaper, I could always upgrade the Sora drivetrain down the road. Opinion?
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thanks for replying Really? Wow I didn't know that the Future Shock was regarded this highly. So, to keep my budget under 2k (Canadian) you're saying that the Sirrus X 4.0 with aluminium and Future Shock would be a better buy than the Sirrus 4.0 in carbon but no Future Shock? There's a $50 difference between the 2.
Simon Smith 42 mm on Sirrus 3.0 is no Problem I have the pathfinder pro - looks awesome and is a good alternative for Sirrus x - 2x 9 Sora - caborn fork -
@@feelgood6514 hey thanks for the feedback and congrats on your bike purchase! I took a quick glance at your bike's specs and it looks very similar to the 4.0 minus the carbon frame. You mentioned that your bike can accommodate 42c tires but that's on the A1 alloy frame, I wonder if the carbon Fact 9r has the same clearance (It's so hard not being able to look at bikes!) How are you finding the Microshift shifters and Tektro brakes?
Damn I can't find anywhere this bike or Sirrus X in Greece. Next arrivals will be in June. What about Merida speeder 100 is a good optional instead of sirrus 2.0?? What about Merida brand? Is a good one?
What would you recommend for an entry level fitness bike? I was looking at the Jamis Allegro, but have heard decent review of this specialized? Thanks!
Jamesthebikeguy thanks a lot. I ended up putting a down payment on the sirrus x 3.0 just because there seems to be a shortage of the 2.0 nationwide and nobody near me ya them on back order. Do you know if the future shock stem is sold a la carte I want the stem but not the price tag of the 4.0
Am thinking of buying this bike the step thought version as easier to get on. But thorn between getting a Specialized Ariel Hydraulic Disc 2020 Ladies Hybrid. Can some advice me what the difference is between these two bikes please. I don’t have a clue as not been on a bike for 10 years since my bike accident. All I want is a smooth ride on tracks and paths during this lock down. Your help and advice be very much appreciate. Thank you in advance. 😊
Jamesthebikeguy thank you for your reply. I went to my LBS and there wasn’t any bike there for me to try so they recommend the two bikes which I stated. And advice me to order online. If I was able to try them both out then I be able to make up my mind.
Hey man awesome reviews! would you say there is much difference between the Specialized Sirrus X 2.0 and the Trek fx3 Disc? i cant find the specialized sirrus x 2.0 in stock anywhere right now.. dont think they are in until end of june but theres potentially a trek for me to grab.... but im struggling to find comparisons on them to decide. Im mainly around roads and pavements living in the city but i want the option of being able to ride out on some rougher terrains perhaps so i can have an all rounder bike! what do you think? thank you :)
I'm surprised Specialized jsut calls the forks hi-ten steel I was expecting 'Premium advanced steel' or similar, perhaps their normal marketing man had a day off. I would guess the frame is 6061 aluminium because of the dropped stays as it handles flexing a bit better than 7005 but you never know. I have a Specialized Sirrus Triple from the 90s, surprisingly that is a road bike but now Specialized uses the 'Sirrus' name for hybrids which is a bit confusing. Anyway looks a nice bike and glad they went for a high ten fork, a fork failing is the most dangerous component on a bike and steel forks are by far the safest, CF forks have a fairly high tendency to fail especially aluminium steerers bonded with CF blades and aluminium forks do suffer from fatigue over the long term, maybe 5 years into use when the aluminium strength has deteriorated there is the possibility of failure but most importantly high ten steel forks make the bike far more comfortable at the expense of a little weight compared to aluminium forks. This is probably the safest most durable Sirrus with the lowest maintenance requirements but definitely not the fastest.
What would you recommend for an entry level fitness bike? I was looking at the Jamis Allegro, but have heard decent review of this specialized? Thanks!
Next model up gets a carbon fork at almost 3lb lighter. Might as well start there. You could go 1x, but it's not really in the recipe of the bike which is more or less using a compact race bike chainset. Next model up gets a hollowtech2 bottom bracket, that'll be most of a pound in weight saved.
MrAmorti , I just bought a pristine.7.4 disc , 2016 model for 325 , everything in outstanding shape , if I decide to go a 1 x , what can I keep & change ? Not savvy with drive train components, any advice would help, I do plan to get trek fx or Sirrus x models but until Black Friday
@@imstillhereileft7530 it's pretty easy to upgrade bicycles until the latest stuff where the standards keep changing. You can swap out your triple chainset for a single with a hollowtech2 bottom bracket, this will save a bit of weight (a lot of the savings will be the BB) and complexity. Then you need a cassette with a bigger range to make up for the gears you lost, you can use 9 or 10 on your existing wheel. Then you 'need' a clutch derailleur to compensate for the big cassette. You can live without a clutch but it'll be noisy and clunk on the chainstay. If the cassette you get has more than the 9 speeds you already have in the rear, you'll need a new shifter. As you've changed the chainset and cassette, it'd be a false economy not to change the chain, and anyway necessary if you increase the number of gears in the rear. Sounds like hard work on a bike you'll trade up soon anyway.
I live in virginia and I am wanting a bike that I can use on roads and some bike trails. What are your thoughts regarding this bike vs the giant escape 2 disc. I have never bought a bike outside of a walmart bike and I am wanting to stay around this price range and Im having a tough time determining the best option.
This bike looks great, love the colour, I am in the market for a 2nd bike to partner my Marin Fairfax sc2 and this one looks promising, would love to hear opinions from anyone who has purchased this bike.
I’m around 5’10 5’11. Ideally what size would be great for me in this exact spec bike ? I wish I could go test them out but unfortunately bikes are like gold & diamonds atm. Anyone around my height have any clue? Maybe some inseam measurements to help
@@Jamesthebikeguy Hi James thanks for responding to me. from the crotch to my ankle its about 29/30 inseam and to the floor probably 32 or so. im so misconstrued. I asked this on the same bike with other youtubers and some gave me medium. Can I ask what your height and inseam is ?
Michael Emanuel can’t speak for the sirrus, but I do have an fx 2 disc which serves me well. It’s got a 3x in the front, instead of the 2x that the sirrus has, but I find it pretty useful because there’s a lot of hills where I live and I’m not the strongest cyclist. Best thing is to try both out, instead of being swayed by the words of a guy on the internet (me).
The future shock is HORRIBLE! Can anyone remember Cannondale doing this in the 90s? Please stop bopping please stop! ha ha This version is a nice ride without that awful shock in the head set....who thought of that?
Always keep away from proprietary stuff like that, in the long term spares can dry up or be very expensive and some thicker tyres both front and rear will do more for suspension than that anyway. This bike pretty much delivers everything you need sometimes less is more.

any thoughts on the Sirrus 2.0 2020 vs Giant escape 2 2020? I have narrow my search to these two. Would appreciate any input. I will use the bike mostly for riding in the city and paved bike trails. Thank you!
Loving this year's Sirrus!
Opinion?
The future shock is worth $500 everyday.
Simon Smith 42 mm on Sirrus 3.0 is no Problem
I have the pathfinder pro - looks awesome and is a good alternative for Sirrus x - 2x 9 Sora - caborn fork -
@@feelgood6514 hey thanks for the feedback and congrats on your bike purchase!
Hi James, what are your thoughts on B’TWIN’s Riverside 900 and the Sirrus 2.0?
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with that brand
Damn I can't find anywhere this bike or Sirrus X in Greece. Next arrivals will be in June. What about Merida speeder 100 is a good optional instead of sirrus 2.0?? What about Merida brand? Is a good one?
I have have not never checked out a Merida because they are not in the USA, but everything I have read or watched videos they seem pretty nice
Is this a good bike for long rides
Thoughts on this VS the Allez?
What would you recommend for an entry level fitness bike? I was looking at the Jamis Allegro, but have heard decent review of this specialized? Thanks!
Specialized Sirrus and Trek FX are great options
What does your LBS suggest?
Jamesthebikeguy thank you for your reply. I went to my LBS and there wasn’t any bike there for me to try so they recommend the two bikes which I stated. And advice me to order online. If I was able to try them both out then I be able to make up my mind.
Hi, that dike serves to pratice gravel?
Anyone have the sirrus x 3.0, if so, what do you guys think of it and is it worth getting over the sirrus 2.0
does it have mounting points for their kickstand like other specialized models? silly question but can’t find info on that
kickstand mount is near the bottom bracket.
What changes when you bump up to the Sirrus Expert Carbon, besides price? Can't find a review of that bike anywhere.
Most everything... but seriously. It is several total steps up in literally every part and quality.
just got this bike in coral! love it!
Awesomeness 👌
Do you think this bike would be suitable for light gravel?
Yeah
Hey man awesome reviews! would you say there is much difference between the Specialized Sirrus X 2.0 and the Trek fx3 Disc? i cant find the specialized sirrus x 2.0 in stock anywhere right now.. dont think they are in until end of june but theres potentially a trek for me to grab.... but im struggling to find comparisons on them to decide. Im mainly around roads and pavements living in the city but i want the option of being able to ride out on some rougher terrains perhaps so i can have an all rounder bike! what do you think? thank you :)
Hi don't know where your from Im from the uk I ordered this a week ago wasn't due in stock untill the 7th of June, its just been delivered today
Very nice. Im glad it's x2 and not x3. Road bike should stop using x3. Smallest chainring is pointless. Particularly chainring below 28T
2x is a great choice for the bike
Can I ride this on gravel trails?
164 cm (75 cm inseam) - size S or M?
"Premium Advanced Steel" 🤣🤣🤣
😄😄😄
Hi-Ten steel fork? What did they do, raid the Walmart bike department?
What would you recommend for an entry level fitness bike? I was looking at the Jamis Allegro, but have heard decent review of this specialized? Thanks!
awesome content
Thanks
What size was the bike you reviewed?
Large
Can I put upgrades to this bike , like make it 1x 9, 10 in the future ? I noticed also no carbon fork , any advice would help james
Sure but why not start higher if you plan to upgrade
MrAmorti you gave great advice & input , i appreciate it
I live in virginia and I am wanting a bike that I can use on roads and some bike trails. What are your thoughts regarding this bike vs the giant escape 2 disc. I have never bought a bike outside of a walmart bike and I am wanting to stay around this price range and Im having a tough time determining the best option.
Choose the one from the shop you want to do busisness with.
It's not the number of gears, it's the quality of the front derailleur. And the space for larger tire(tyre) clearance.
Yo! That's my bike!
Oh yea. How do you like your bike?
would the tires be okay on some unpaved roads?
yes
sirrus vs crossroads for 95% paved bike paths 20 miles ?
Crossroads
How many kilogrammes is 1 pound??
455g
Can you do something on the Specialize 3.0
You mean this video: ruclips.net/video/Tasn_dGS-ws/видео.html
I wonder of a 1x11 would fit on here
You could but it would require tons of component change. In the end it would be less expensive and easier to get a bike spec'd the proper way.
This bike looks great, love the colour, I am in the market for a 2nd bike to partner my Marin Fairfax sc2 and this one looks promising, would love to hear opinions from anyone who has purchased this bike.
What are you planning to do with this bike
@@Jamesthebikeguy hi James thanks for your reply, I am looking at fitness rides 15 to 20 miles
@@Jamesthebikeguy by the way forgot to mention it will all be on the road with small to medium inclines, great video presentation too.
Merida speeder 400, similar price with 105 group set and carbon folks.
Interesting.
Good luck finding one
I’m around 5’10 5’11. Ideally what size would be great for me in this exact spec bike ? I wish I could go test them out but unfortunately bikes are like gold & diamonds atm. Anyone around my height have any clue? Maybe some inseam measurements to help
Size Large for sure.
What’s the difference in the Sirrus 2.0 and Sirrus X 2.0?...
The X has a different tire (more hybrid style) and the handlebars have a bit of a bend to them in the middle.
Finalfantasie ok I put my deposit down on a Sirrus X...looks to be a little bit more off road capable...
@@minusx31 nice! I hope you enjoy it, I really have fun on my normal Sirrus 2.0, it really flies when you build up speed.
I just bought this bike - Supernatural
I’m looking for a drop bar single speed bike. Any recommendation?
Michael H Thanksss but which model?.
Michael H Awesome. Awesome, steel bikes sounds classic. 58 or x-large. I know it depends on many things the fit but I’m 6’1”
Michael H Pavement because I have a Gravel and MTB bike. I want something different.
Please review the Sirrus 6.0
If I come across one.
No gear demonstration, looks a nice bike, might get one.
Any thoughts about the sirrus x?
Love it, reviewd the 2019 and really liked it: ruclips.net/video/l-JWugqTzRA/видео.html
Hey do you ship to Canada
I am not a bike shop, but I don't think Specialized allows dealers to ship bikes.
Do you know how much the 4.0 weighs?
Video coming out in the next week or so. Spoiler is that it is much lighter.
This or the trek fx2 disc?
That's a tough one. Ride both and choose what feels most comfortable

Joe N Whats so bad about it? I think you can adjust the stiffness in them.
This is not the same thing as Headshock. This is axial suspension, and thus works entirely different. Does not affect bobbing or Geo changes.
Always keep away from proprietary stuff like that, in the long term spares can dry up or be very expensive and some thicker tyres both front and rear will do more for suspension than that anyway. This bike pretty much delivers everything you need sometimes less is more.
informative video. I've sent you an email with some questions. Hope to hear back from you.
Email is not the best way feel free to ask on videos the questions you have so others can learn as well.
Aluminum frames don't flex.
Indeed they do
EVERYTHING flexes.

This new trend of staggered top tube and seat stay sucks as much as curved mobile phone screens👎
What is wrong with a divorced ST/TT junction?
@@Jamesthebikeguy I just do not like it. I think it looks horrible. I have a Specialized Cirrus carbon the lines look so much nicer.

1. How old are your tires?
2. Do you keep tires inflated to the correct air pressure?
3. What is the exact damage done to the rims?
4. Have you replaced both rims?
5. When replacing rims, have you kept the hubs?
