Made this, loved it. First cable knit hat! Very straightforward, since there is both the video and written instructions. I found it to be well fitted, perhaps a little tight, but there was some guidance in another comment response on how to widen it, which I might try for next time- I'll definitely be making again. I love this pattern. I completed a red and white beanie. White brim red hat. However I did a little modification for the addition of the second color. I didn’t like the purl ridges showing up so I did a change. After doing the increases I knitted all the way back. Then I changed color and purled all the way back. From there I had a solid line to begin the cable pattern. That eliminates the white purl ridges showing up in my red giving the transition a cleaner look. The hat is in progress. My intention is to make a long tail to create a Santa hat. I intend to use the pattern for decreasing once I’m happy with the length. I made the beanie first and your pattern is so pretty and joins at the crown perfectly. Thank you for sharing your talent

Hey there. I followed your instructions and started with 70 stichs, but it turned out to be super tight it didn't even fit a 13 year old. That is such a bummer for biggeners you should have given us how wide it is in cm not in stiches since yarn varies as well as tension. Made me think that i am the problem, but then i did another one and attached them together, isn't it such a bummer to do it twice? That was a love-hate relation between me and that hat. I hope that you give more details on size and take into consideration people's feelings and time. It's ok for me but it would be disappointing for beginners, and it would make them hate knitting
Have you used bulky weight yarn? I knitted this hat in rounds using 5.5 mm and 6 mm knitting needles for cables. It depends always how tight knitter you are. I can only suggest changing needles for bigger size. Otherwise you will need to add one more cable. 5 yo child wears an adult size already, 13 yo too. I understand your disappointment but I have seen a lot of finished projects already. If you need help regarding recalculation I will gladly help you.

I’ve tried to make a cable hat on circular needles for a week. I’ve accomplished nothing but keep on ripping it apart and start over and over. Thank you for your video and instructions on the straight needles. Im now knitting with pleasure and accomplishing my project. I would love to make a matching scarf to this hat. Is it possible you can guide me on how you would do it. How many stitches to cast on and how to follow this hat pattern. Thanks!!!
Didn’t test knit this or anything, but the pattern repeat is done over any multiple of 15. Assuming you use bulky/chunky yarn, I’d guess 30 or 45 (+ 2 for selvages, so 32 or 47 respectively) would work for a scarf. Personally, though, I would cast on an extra 3 stitches and do something like this: sel s, k3, **p3, k6, p3, k3*, repeat *** until end of row, sel s. Then just knit the knits and purl the purls as you do with the hat. Twist the cable on every 8th row. Knit until you reach the desired length, then bind off in pattern. I think it’d look quite nice to bind off on an 8th row without twisting the cable that time, but you can do whatever you’d like. Hope this helps :)
Hi Patricia. I am happy I could help you. Regarding the mathing, read Helene comment. She is right. The final number of sts has to be divisible by 15 plus 2 sel s.
Hi. Happy you like it. To make a bigger size you can increase the number or purl stitches between cables, you can also increase the cable instead of 6 sts make 8. The last but not least option is to add one more cable.

This is wonderful. I made one! It was fun following along and my first cables. Can this be worked on circular needles if I omit the salvage stitches? Thank you.
