- TLC's Sister Wives cast tried to obtain substantial capital from investors for their Sister Wives Closet business. It is my position, from information gathered from the TLC story line, that Robyn and Kody were going to mishandle the $2.5M dollar investment that they sought in season 7. Throughout the development process of SisterWivesCloset Kody and Robyn referenced the business in terms of a piggy bank not a viable business.
While the family was asking for the investment dollars to "grow the business," Robyn & Kody planned to take the money so Robyn could pull away from the SWC business to have more kids. There's also the segment where Kody insisted that Janelle be left out of the business' finances because those duties should be under the sole purview of Robyn.

Quite frankly, I believe the whole "Sister Wives Closet" bull was just a front, so that Robyn's lazy behind could claim she was actually 'working' - when we all know that her only strategy from day dot, was to live off the other lady's proceeds.

This has been my exact thought too! Robyn seems to be a very lazy person, she's never worked but also has never truly been a "stay-at-home-mom" either because she's ALWAYS had a nanny and/or babysitters. Even when she was in her first marriage she dumped her kids off with the nieces.

Well, firstly, how insulting to the wives who were exercising their culinary efforts; and also, it begs the question - what contribution did this woman actually ever make to this family?!

And let's not forget that she wouldn't allow her sister wives to babysit her kids out of fear her kids might love the other moms and Robyn CAN'T share and has to have constant control. That's why she had to cut Preston out of the picture. I vaguely remember that comment. I've become mildly obsessed with analyzing the lives of reality tv people and their families, especially the Brown's, so it can be hard to keep track lol. I think one of the best episodes that gives you a look into the Brown's marriages was when Kody "designed" a necklace for each wife in season 5 but the necklaces were in a Sister Wive's Closet bag so Robyn likely designed the necklaces. Christine picked up on that little fact as soon as she saw her necklace and begins to cry. Kody gives a very basic explanation about the meaning behind each necklace "Meri you're so loyal so here's a heart with loyalty written on it, Janelle you ground our family so here's a tree with heart leaves (that looked like rotten strawberries), Christine have a fairy because you act like one!" And then he gets to Robyn and gushes about the meaning behind her's "you're a Phoenix rising from the ashes, so strong and wonderful, blah, blah, blah" and then he says a lyric from their love song. Of course my nosy self had to look up the song, it's Phoenix Rising by Annihilator, a terrible hair metal ballad of the early 90's lol. The episode basically gives you great insight into their relationship, Robyn's manipulation and proves Kody didn't know his other wives or cared to. You could totally tell that Robyn knew all about these necklaces, there was zero surprise on her face and she was kind of helping Kody explain the meanings to the other wives, even their song's lyrics could lay out a plan for Ko-Ro running off into the sunset without the other wives. It was a big glimpse of what was to come with some of the ugliest necklaces you'll ever see lol.

You can add Robyn to the employment hunt as well. All of her kids are school aged, so only after school care will be needed so Robyn and Kody can work. I think it was an ego thing where they needed the prestige and visibility of their own website. "Robyn has a cute side business on Etsy" isn't as dramatic a storyline as "Robyn launches MSWC with all of the wives behind her"

@@carlabrown6849 I really like Etsy! And I've noticed that sellers with enough traffic market on other creator sites too? That speaks to interest in the product and sellers leveraging that. Someone I went to school with wanted to "auction off" (her words) decorations she made. I watched her create them and she spent no time in the actual craftsmanship. Without sounding mean, they were shoddily made with the intention of making a quick buck. I asked her, 'what's preventing you from selling at a farmer's market at a flat rate?' and she was insistent that they need to be "auctioned" because people are going to escalate bidding and prices. It was way more about fulfilling her ego than giving people something of value. To me, this is Robyn's "vanity project". A gym has the potential to give people fitness; a B&B has the potential to give people a chance to travel. Even the wives' book they wrote together at least gives us some insights. Polygamist jewelry? What is that putting out there into the world other than "fund my lifestyle"?

Think about their "type" of polygamy. The women decide how to raise their own children, they support themselves and their children with very little help or input (or $) from Kody. They don't need Kody. And that worked for them for a really long time because he didn't prefer any one wife. Enter Robin, full of debt that needs paying and no real job to speak of since she married in. She's not supporting herself or her kids. Instead she is a constant drain on their resources. She and Kody changed the way they "do polygamy" and now, oops, not working anymore cuz you can't expect to change a "business plan" and not have growing pains (unhappy wives). There is nothing in this form of polygamy for those original 3 ladies. They used to support themselves and their kids and Kody came around for a play date. Now he wants no more interaction with each wife and give me all the money so I can live it up with the wife I actually do love. He neither controls, runs, or leads his family. The older kids are scattered and most have a poor relationship with him. You are right, they just want more money from investors, and they overplayed their hand thinking their popularity would be enough to sell cheap jewelry. ³333333³

So true but Paedon said that Meri was the favorite wife before Robyn. Maybe not to the degree Robyn is but you can see on season 1 that he seemed more bonded and emotional with Meri. I also think them living in the same house helped their family work and it made the little Kody did seem more because the other women and older kids were around to pick up the slack.

I think they didn’t want Janelle over their shoulder, making them be responsible with the money. She would probably have had a lot to say about what Kody and Robyn were doing with the company/family financials. It’s insane that they took money from Meri and Janelle to buy a million dollar house. I think that you’re onto something here, because a little digging has shown that Robyn’s name is now on all the family’s assets, including 3/5 of the Coyote Pass properties. So if she left, Robyn would get half of the mansion and Coyote Pass and the vehicles and whatnot. I think they’ve been using Meri and Janelle for money.

Doesn’t mean her name’s on the property. Janelle & Mary were both in what’s legally called “meretricious relationships” with Kody before Robyn married him. I’m not sure if AZ is a community property state, not all states are, and I was trained as a paralegal in CA, which is. Even though, because of these previous existing relationships, an attorney could argue that Robyn had no legal claim to the properties. Especially given the fact that both Janelle & Mary had given Robyn $$ to get into her home. It could be argued her consideration in any portion of their land that Kody has an interest in was already paid for. But lawyers can always make compelling arguments about anything, that’s why the only real winners are ever the lawyers.

3. I wanted to add that the move to Flagstaff was designed to get all of the women to sell their homes, liquidate the equity in them, and then give that equity to Kody and Robyn. Kody signed over the house to Meri when they divorced as a sweetener to get her to go along with Robyn usurping her place. Kody regretted giving Meri the house, particularly when she "cheated" on him after they legally divorced. He wanted that money back. The entire move to Flagstaff was motivated by Robyn wanting to be where her son was, but Kody saw the opportunity to rip off the OG3, and he took it. Christine left him sooner than he expected. He thought he could push her out when they went to finance the construction on the 5 lots.
Yup. The house of cards fell in so much sooner than either of the two freeloaders were thinking. Christine was amazing. Especially by not letting them all, with the exception of Janelle, guilt her into staying.

All the payments from the show went into Kodys bank account,all of them. The women really had no idea how much money they actually had. I think Janelle had some idea but they duped her also. Robin wanted investors because the other women really werent interested in doing this business at all and they made that clear. Robin was just using the whole having a baby thing to manipulate Kody into doing what she wanted. The reason Janell would have been in charge of the money because that was her position in that family. Robin took it away because she didnt want to have to be accountable to Janelle.

A normal business loan might be in the realm of $80,000 - $100,000, maybe even less online. When I heard the amount it was shocking. $2.5 million dollar loan is ridiculous. When I opened up a medical practice, I took out less than a $500k loan, and this included building a practice from the ground up with equipment. Also, I feel like Robyn doesn't have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. She doesn't have the hustle, the drive. There was no concrete PLAN to repay those investors. They dodged a bullet by not getting involved!!
I think that's why the investors didn't invest as they knew that Robyn's business wasn't viable from the beginning🤔

Three! Jenelle knew how to track their money and couldn’t be gaslit or bullied into not understanding the reality of how money was being used to the benefit the family (or one sector of the family).
It doesn’t mean that she always made choices in her own best interest. She just didn’t lie about what she saw when she saw it, which made her dangerous to Kody. He relies on people co-signing his lies and lying for him. The only wife to really do that without question has been Robyn. Meri did it in some situations, but even she was more honest than Robyn.
I see your case. I thought that Kody's "When am I ever in charge?" comment was to throw them off, playing innocent. But he and Robyn were definitely trying to get that done for her pet project. I don't know how or when Janelle lost control, but they SURELY took advantage of her. Christine raised all of the older children on her own; Janelle supported them; only Robyn cried to Kody that she couldn't handle it....her own children.
Here is the thing is with the Sister Wives Closet it is really a hobby business like Avon, Mary Kay, Passions, and Tupperware. They did no research on seeing if the products would really move if there was a market for it. Before they got really started and got all the family money into this business they should of did a few "Tupperware" parties. In any business you need to know who your core people are who going to want to buy what you are selling. Again this a side hobby side hustle. Not something to pay the bills.

3 - you are spot on and I think that is what led them to go after the family assets second. The houses in Vegas were bought before Kody and Robyn married. The move put her in a place to claim ownership in the assets purchased after the move.
The statement that Robyn and I gave Christine her down payment on her house was the biggest tell.
The fact that Kody and Robyn’s name are all over Coyote Pass and no other wives names are on Robyn’s deed just emphasize the inequities.
I hear the oh Robyn didn’t want to buy that house, she wanted to be on Coyote Pass and I just call BS. She wasn’t willing to compromise and take a smaller house putting her in a position to protest but still get the house without it being her idea. She could have said, kids you are going to have to share a bedroom for a short time until we get our house built but for some reason that wasn’t even an option.
So instead, they took part of Mary and Janelles proceeds to buy a house that doesn’t have either of their names on it!
Then Kody tries to shame Christine to ensure she will never ask for child support - aka stealing his money. The scam still lives on and we are giving them money by watching the train wreck 🤦♀️.
I think you could easily come up with another 9 for how they are stealing the family money and assets.

Strong 3. It was really shady that Janelle was ALWAYS in charge of the family finances and did the taxes up until the time Christine left but then all of a sudden she wasn’t good enough. At this point, all of a sudden there were secret withdrawals and spending. It was so shady.

I believe they are considered fundamental Mormons, but their group broke off from the main church over 100 years ago. They would be excommunicated if they lived as polygamists in the Mormon church.
3 - although I don’t necessarily think that Kody started out with “theft” in mind - but I 100% believe that Robyn saw this as an opportunity to have unlimited access to money. Kody was/is so enamored of Robyn that it wouldn’t be much of stretch to think that he’d blindly follow where Robyn leads. This is also why I think Robyn keeps him so close at hand. She can’t manipulate him and push her agenda if he’s not around… 🤔
3. I'll be honest, I'm not a finance savvy person but your points make sense and, if nothing else, those were incredibly sketchy and at best negligent business decisions on Robyn and Kody's part. Even before this, Robyn wanting to step away from her "dream" before it even started to have another baby (especially considering she was the last wife still able/willing to have more kids) never added up to me.
Those Vegas homes were ultra extravagant.

You nailed it. I have a funny background, Pension administer for 10 years and then Social Work for 25. So I'm pretty good having counselled offenders when someone is playing me, when someone doesn't know what the heck they (Kody and Robyn) are talking about business wise. Your smart to separate your personal funds, but there is such a thing as misappropriating funds leading to fraud. Oppps and they would have taken all 3 other woman down with them. I am still trying to figure out how any company anywhere. Thought giving them that much money was a good idea. Given what the business was. That they had no sense behind it other than Janelle. They weren’t even listening to her.
Even Kody admitted in the business meeting that the only reason people would buy the jewelry is because they were fans. And then he said something about everything they touch turns to gold. Well if that is true, why wasn't the company already a success?
