Cillian Murphy's Reaction When Asked If He Has Watched Indian films

- Let's learn a few words from this clip I hope you learned something new 😊 We'd really appreciate it if you could share these videos and give us a follow❤
Cillian is such a down to earth, genuine person. No faking anything even when it might feel like an awkward moment.
@@user-co1sv2bq5d What part is terrible for Muslims to say?
Isn't "Slumdog Millionaire" an Indian film? If so, I would bet Cillian HAS seen that and just doesn't remember.
Update: Thank you to all who corrected me. It's based on a novel by an Indian author, but it's a British film with a British director.
@@user-co1sv2bq5d To be honest, I didn't hear Cillian say anything like that, User-co. . So I don't really know what you are talking about and couldn't even guess what he meant. But could it be that you are referring to a different video, or perhaps that English isn't your native language, and so, with his Irish accent, you have simply misunderstood him?
In this video, the only thing I heard him say, before he was interrupted by Djimon, was, "No, I don't think I have. I don't think I have. Which I know is a terrible thing to say ..."
(Or something close to that, anyway.) And by "I don't think I have," I interpret him to mean that he can't remember ever seeing an Indian film, so he might have, but doesn't think so because he can't remember one.
And as for "I know that's a terrible thing to say," I think he really meant it was an unfortunate thing to have to ADMIT to because it implies he might have a low opinion of Indian films and had purposely ignored them OR that he was maybe a lazy actor who hadn't kept up with all the films he should have. But in any case, he's simply acknowledging that his saying he's never seen one, or can't remember one, is probably going to imply something unflattering about either himself or about Indian films or film makers.
I hope that helps, User-co, altho' I'm not sure my explanation is any clearer than his words were, lol.
@@user-co1sv2bq5d You are most welcome, User-co, and I am very, very happy that I could help with your translation. And it is a special pleasure to be communicating with someone from a different country and culture, and especially one as nice as you seem to be.😍
And just to reassure you, although your translator may have made those few mistakes, it must still be a very good one because your English is quite good most of the time!
From my heart to yours, I wish you a very, very happy, peaceful and prosperous 2024!!🤗🤗🤗💕
P.S. Are you saying you would like to ask a question about Peaky Blinders? If so, please do so and I will try to answer, although I only know what I have seen on RUclips shorts. I haven't actually watched the show.
He says that's a terrible thing for ME to say. Meaning he feels bad for not having seen Indian cinema. He didn't say for Muslims to say. He said "for me to say" @@user-co1sv2bq5d
Half of the Indians might have not seen bandit Queen let alone recognising shekhar Kapoor! Hats off to the man! Should have mentioned his name too along with Murphy.

I love both responses. Cillian didn't fake his reality even if some celebrities would, and Djimon was trying to remember the name of that movie so we wouldn't think he was faking it lmao. Both seem to be really pure in their answers
Djimon was not faking it, and neither was Cillian. Both of them were being honest. So yes both responses were great. Good to see honesty in celebrities, it is not common.
It was a bit rude that he interrupted Gillian though
@@euphorbia1581 he stepped in because Cillian was in a uncomfortable situation. It's what bros do

Djimon Honsou is actually such an amazing actor and character. Wish that we saw him more in big film. Impeccable bloke.
He's really a man of integrity. There's something old fashioned about him. I've followed his career since Red Eye, he was mesmerizing in it. I'm so glad to see him getting the recognition he deserves.
He shouldn’t feel bad. It’s not a terrible thing to say. It doesn’t mean he has something against India or Indians. A lot of Indians haven’t seen Irish films either.
I guess he felt bad to the person asking the question. And I won’t expect the polite Cillian would ask her back if she’s seen an Irish film.
Exactly people making something out of nothing again
The BBC did Indian films every weekend during the 60s 70s 80s , I saw bandit queen I'm sure late 70s or 80s , Friday nights was foreign film night BBC 2 I think and bbc1 Sunday afternoons , of course now you get more on netflix , cilian just didn't have the choices when we had 2-3 channels in 70s lol, a choice between two crap progs or a foreign film , what you gonna choose 😂 , sometimes the films were duff too tho , problem with more channels is you miss out on things that you wouldn't normally watch , or in your youth you were out more living instead of watching ,
To be honest, there are a lot more people abroad who have watched Indian films than Irish films :D
@@keelfly fair enough
I really respect Murphy for not pretending he has. Some people would say "oh sure sure of course I have" when they haven't but not him.
For example?

I'm not going to name any names because I don't want to bash anyone. I just think it was mature of him to tell the truth and not worry that it might make him look a little uncultured.
@@MoriahgI am sorry, but most of the old celebs of Hollywood have come across Indian films due to our stars like Amitabh and SRK
Cilian is simply new to cinema so we can’t expect much from him in terms of cinema knowledge
@@ironicaaz3593 He's not new to cinema lol, he's not Hollywood/American if that's what you mean. He's also said he avoids watching dramatic movies or binge watching while he's working on a project. Many famous Indian actors are also known best in the West for their roles in Western cinema, or non-Bollywood 'Indian' films. I'd be surprised if most celebs had seen many Bollywood films.
I don’t respect that. I respect the guy who went out of his way, as a professional, to connect with someone else culture. Let’s not push each other to be mediocre, please ?
This guy..love his brutal honesty!!
There's nothing brutal about "I haven't seen an Indian film, before."
If he wanted to be really charismatic, he'd want some recommendations.
But not having seen an Indian film before doesn't make any statement other than he hasn't seen an Indian film, before.
Djimon Honsou is 👍👏as an actor, definitely deserved the "Best Supporting Actor" for Blood Diamond, doesn't get the roles he deserves, hopefully, he too has a turn of events!
He is grown up in nigeria, Africans are more exposed to indian films than the rest of the world
I'm peruvian (South America) we have seen a lot of indian films
You are right, British people however don't really get to see Indian movies unless maybe you specifically are trying to find one on the internet. Most of the movies we are exposed to are American, British or Australian.
In France, we are fans of indian films.

Bandit Queen was such a powerful film. It still haunts me 30 years on.
Gotta watch The Apu Trilogy. It’s not for people who dislike old or slow films, but if anyone else is into Yasujiro Ozu’s films like Tokyo Story and Late Spring, I think you will understand why they’re some of the best films of all time. I don’t watch too many modern films.

I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine, not so much of their cinema.
They do, however, have a great book that has detailed illustrations.

And Cillian even more so due to his answer 😂 Those Bollywood musicals are loved in India but nobody except some Indian people watch them outside that and they are painful. What is also ridiculous is that on IMBD every Indian movie is rated so high over any other countries' movies even if it's some absolute piece of dogs hit rubbish. I thought the same thing. Nothing wrong or bad about it. It would be terrible to lie and pretend you love something you don't. I've always thought Bollywood films would be shit. Full of silly singing and dancing. I know what I like and that isn't it. I'll watch Scandinavian films any day, I think maybe it's the setting of them that I like. I’m a white American woman who found Bollywood films in 2006 after watching Bend it Like Beckham, looking in the library database for other films by the director and fell in love with Aishwarya Rai, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, the Bachchans, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Priety Zinta, and so many others! I watched every movie available in the county library system. I have a large collection of DVDs, mostly Shah Rukh. I go to local theaters that show Bollywood films and I have been asked by Indian audience members if I like the films. They are amazing! I love the passion, the beauty, the music, the stories. And yes, I saw Bandit Queen. My favorites are the K movies…Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kenya. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is a favorite. Since the pandemic, I haven’t seen any but I will. Love them.

My grandad was a cinema projectionist and from time to time would show Bollywood films at an arts cinema in our city. The whole Indian community would come out and turn the place into a giant party. Nobody watched the film really. It was more about getting together for a feast. They used to bring food up to us in the booth and it was great. Curry, samosa, bhajis ... you name it. All gifted to us. Loved it.
My dad used to go to a cinema,in Manchester that showed Indian films, and during the interval we would queue up to by samosas and kebabs. I couldn't understand what was being said so I had to ask my dad what was going on.
This Is the best video I 've see in the whole year.
What saddens me is that the people actively trying to get into watching Indian films will not know it for great stuff like Bandit Queen, Pather Panchali, Lagaan, Anand but they'll know it for AAARR AAARR AARRRR! 😢
can't help. Its mainstream cinema now. It also depends on people's taste. Most western do expect to see over-the-top no-brainer bollywood films. But then rarely you will find someone looking for art. Like I have this hungarian friend who could be best expert on Mr Satyajit Ray. These people are few though.
I've seen quite a few Indian films when Channel 4 in the UK used to put them on late at night when I was a kid in the 90s but I don't remember any of the names of them which is a shame cos I really enjoyed some of them.

The reason is that he's a highly introverted person.
Grinding out some rather dumb interviews because it's in the contracts.
