Just had this one installed this week and I love it! Quiet, great lighting and easy to program to the car and my old chamberlain keychain remote. App is cool too! Have a 15 year old, so it's easier for him to have the app than to worry about keeping up with a house key or remote. You know they know where their phones are at all times. Camera is great too, although I do have a Ring light camera above the garage.
I have the Elite 3580 series and want to replace with the 87504. Your Amazon link appears to be the motor unit only; will my existing rail and belt work with this unit? Thanks
what would cause the light to stay on. We have tried everything. New Logic board, and wiring to controller. I turn off the light, motion picks me up and light will not go out after set 1.5 timer
Great video. Helped me when picking a new motor. But for the DIY'er be careful. Make sure the rail comes with it. Every web site I looked at doesn't include the rail. If you want it you have to order it separately and it can cost you $80-$130 plus shipping, which is around $300 because it's so long....
Some of the openers I looked at were a no-go because I would not be able to disable the light. What I don't need is my neighbors and people stumbling by, where I live, seeing a garage full of semi-expensive tools in 2000 lumen backlighting. Which also makes me a backlit target if the lights are on with the door up. Think about it when the cops pull you over, do they shine a diffuse light from behind and around their cruiser? Nope, it is a bright light focused towards a potential threat. The only things people need to see are my headlights backing into the garage. If the door is shut and I want light there are three 10,000 lumen (rated) fixtures. The nicer openers down-sold me with their gimmicks. I gave up and just grabbed a cheaper consumer opener that I knew I could just leave the bulbs out of.
Thank you for your video, It’s helpful in deciding which garage motor to install. The Stanley motor I have now is working fine. This Liftmaster model has everything I need. It’s getting installed this weekend, I wonder if labor and material is reasonable for $1.4K, it’s replacing the springs and the wheels/drivers on both sides (I think that’s what it’s called). Is that a good deal?
Hello! Thank you for your feedback. It looks like you are getting some major repair more work done to your door. Based on the amount you mentioned a new motor with new upgraded hardware can easily run north of 1K. Thus it may be that you are getting tremendous value behind the work you have done. In fact, the potential benefits of the new rollers will make the new motor run smoother. Therefore you can have the confidence that your investment will reap long term advantages. Hope this helps!
Hello. Good question. It's tough to answer when you are dealing with a pro installer. I know some installers that charge $1200 and up with installation. I'd shop around for sure. In the Southern California area it can start at $800 and go up from there. Both prices do include installation.
Great Review. I definitely would prefer Lift-master over Chamberlain, and this motor really appealed to me at first. However I am also looking for a very quiet operation which this operator as you stated doesn’t have, bc it is louder than previous models.
Thank you for the feedback! I will agree that the motor is just a tad louder than their previous models. But I believe many will be happy with the overall experience.
Watching the video, it looks like a little duct tape conservatively applied to the rattling areas, or a big rubber band stretched around the motor assembly, might solve the rattle. Ranger bands and duct tape solve a lot of stuff for the army.
Just wanted to run something by you about supports on my top panel. I currently have an almost 10 year old craftsman which obviously didn’t have the soft start and stop like LiftMaster now does. As a result of this, my top panel is now bent. Thinking about ordering new Clopay doors which include the vertical support so that the lifting is distributed through the entirety of the middle of that top panel. If I had the 87504, would it be wise to also that a horizontal support across the top of the panel to protect my new door. Wondering your thoughts if I would need that additional support knowing that the 87504 won’t be as strenuous and rough with my new doors due to soft start and stop.
Great video!! I do not care about the camera. I am looking for a durable and reliable opener. I am between the 87504 and 84501. Which one do you think is a better choice?
Hello! I have yet to work on the 84501 but I do like it's design. If you want a complete garage door motor experience then you can't go wrong with the 87504.
Wish that the garage door opener had a 4K (PTZ) camera, with the Google Home app and Apple Home app compatible with wifi 6. And also, change the old school outside keypad to a fingerprint and face id and NFC with your smartphone. These garage door companies need to add more features and more technology to them.
Awesome video! We currently have a 2002 screw drive Chamberlain Liftmaster Professional 1/2 hp. Wife has become impatient at the intermittent door opener operation from her vehicle--probably a transmitter problem. Door opener works great, but "happy wife, happy life"! So I stumbled onto your RUclips channel and we're SOLD on this opener. We're getting ours installed tomorrow from a local dealer for $625--seems fair, and includes warranty. Many thanks for making this an easy decision. What are your thoughts on keeping the old screw drive? It works fine from the wall mount button and 90% from vehicle remote. We would like to "re-gift" it to someone in need, but not to burden them if it's just a dinosaur. Thanks again from sunny Florida!
Hello! Thank you for your kind words. I am pleased this channel has a far reach to help many with their residential garage door needs. $625 is a good deal. If the screw drive motor is still in good condition it might serve a need for someone that has an older motor. LiftMaster AC motors were virtually indestructible. Usually it's the logic board or rail assembly that goes out before the motor. Hope this helps with your decision.
You hate them for calling LM/Chamberlain out on their BS and infringing on their patents? LM is headed down the drain and has been for the last few years. I haven't put in a 84501 or 87504 that hasn't vibrated or made noises it shouldn't. The 8160W is a great motor but it's sad that their entry level chain drive is better built than their elite models. Genie has come leaps and bounds. The 6170HB makes the 8500W look like a piece of shit and is 2x stronger with no cable monitor. I miss the Liftmaster that made the 3280, the 2265, and the 2500 but Chamberlain has made it clear that they only care about cost cutting and profits and it's bitten them in the ass. I hope they get their shit together but I won't be selling them until they do. Marantec makes a far quieter and better built trolley motor than any current LM and Genie has dethroned the 8500W. I was a diehard LM fan for most of my career but they're going to have to do a full 180 to win me back.
Thanks for the question! The simple answer is no. The garage door opener will continue to function normally. Yet if the garage door opener does go bad, then the camera does become obsolete and thus no longer useful. Hope this helps!
Any help would be appreciated: after a tornado last year insurance is covering a new garage door and opener and the one the installer is providing is a Liftmaster 8365W-267 but I am considering paying to upgrade to a higher model. Details: 1. Master bedroom above garage & wife works shift work so has to sleep during the day a few times a week. 2. Single car insulated garage door being installed 3. I don’t need a camera but would like 2 options if you could provide options for 1 with and 1 without a battery backup since I have a spinal injury that affects my neck and arms. 4. Is there a big noise difference between the chain model they are providing vs a belt model which says quiet and the elite which say ultra quiet (or something like that)? Appreciate anyones time who can provide some insight to which models we should consider.
Hello! LiftMaster does offer 84501 belt drive motor. It does not have a batter backup but it's a quiet belt drive motor. Now the the chain drive motor with the battery backup (84602) is also quiet despite it being a chain rail motor. I don't think you will have to worry about the noise from either motor. Yet you might want to invest on getting the vibration isolator for the installation of the motor. These can easily be found on Amazon: LiftMaster 89LM Garage Door Rubber Noise/Vibration Mounting Isolator Kit 41A3263 amzn.to/3LfKefH Hope this helps.
Have this unit recently installed. Time stamp on live video feed an hour behind despite being set to correct time zone. Liftmaster hasn't been able to fix it. So basically feel ripped off. I suggest getting a stand alone camera since this one doesn't work correctly and they don't seem like interested in fixing. Also the master link on its belt broke! Are they sourcing that part from China now?
Hello. Wow that is irregular. In my years of experience the master link has only broken once on a motor I installed. It might just be a fluke or rare occurrence. But I'm concern about the time stamp issue. I had something similar that LM couldn't fix.
@@sosgds I had Raynors installed 26 yrs ago. No issues at all. They were chain drives. They were built before Raynor sold out. I had a Genie belt or more like a tape drive I installed in a prior home in the 80's. That was a great unit. Lightning strike took out my Raynors so replaced with the Liftmasters. I'm hoping it was a fluke. Maybe installer didn't install link correctly. But with manufacturers sourcing more stuff from China I'm concerned the quality is not as good.
Hello. It will really depend if you want the camera. The 8165 is a quiet motor and offers good solid features to last you a while. If the price between the two is about $100 then I would put my money on the 87504.
Great video! I think that liftmaster is unfortunately headed the opposite direction we want them to, with the lawsuit and all... I'm curious on what they're coming out with next
Hey Andy! That's a great question. I spoke with two local reps and they think this won't affect LiftMaster too much. But it remains to be seen if they will have a smooth transition with new programming. Time will tell.
One other question I've been meaning to ask, with the new remote frequencies coming out does this mean that a new 893 LM won't work with an older liftmaster security 2.0 opener anymore?
They will work. It's just how they will be programmed that will be different. In fact the 893 will have a new name designation. It's some strange name like 892MCVD or something to that effect. I plan on making a video of it in the future.
