      @@sosgds I am using Home Assistant. Luckily I don't own one of these openers, but I was thinking about it just about a week before I heard all the complaints about the company turning off home automation functionality. I take a dim view of the companies that support a feature, then decide to turn it off suddenly. So I am no longer looking at the Chamberlain/Liftmaster solutions. I did hear about the Ratgdo piece that fixes the problem. That sounds like a great solution for those that are stuck now.

      IMO, this is a MAJOR problem. Today's world is about interoperability, not forcing people to use a proprietary platform. What is going to happen when they decide to change the protocol or phase out the support of their own platform? Will they force you to buy a new unit? This is a reason for me not to choose Chamberlain. I didn't realize LIftmaster is also doing this, but it's a reason I won't choose their products.

    I would prefer the new LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers to be able to work with any number of simple, normally-open momentary pushbutton switches, the way openers prior to ca. 2000 worked. It is handy to have additional "dumb" switches that never need batteries in the garage next to interior and exterior doors, so that one can push a button while leaving the garage and not need to carry a remote control.

    From what I've been hearing, the Liftmaster/Chamberlain fixed a lot of the previous issues with the 8500(W) in the 98022. Here's hoping I'll get a decade+ of use out of it.

    We have 2 of the RJ070 models working since +/- 2019. They work awesome. The said "lack of technology" is a bit out of line IMHO. Who needs all of that complication? Push the button it works. Ours turns the light on when the safety beam is broken, that's kinda cool but unnecessary. We have cameras around the house. We don't need a garage door opener that has a camera or a motion sensor or an LCD display or any of the additional bells and whistles that cost money for really no practical application. KISS principal for workhorse items.

    Great video. I’m a homeowner with two of these Liftmaster 98022 units. For my smaller 8x8 door, the motor has worked beautifully. For my larger 16x8 door, it’s been hell for my installer and I. We just can’t figure out why I keep getting the Excessive Force error when we try to close the door. In many cases the door gets stuck open and I need to reprogram the travel to reset the door. My installer even swapped the motor out for a new one it’s still an issue. He even adjusted the the springs and the tracks but to no avail
    We’ve been stumped and Liftmaster’s customer service hasn’t been able to help. The new door is a 16x8 CHI insulated door so it’s pretty light. The installer set the door profile to 1 and we tried setting it to 2 as well but still get the error every few days.

      I don't think you are crazy powering is the opener off the grid. I believe it's an achievable goal. But do you plan on only using the 12V to operate the opener? Or will the solar power also run the opener?

      @@BillSmithBSartist so this opener is based off the same system as their 8500 w model. The difference is that it no longer requires a cable tension monitor to detect cable slack to the garage door. Santiago, Could you please share whether or not you have had this excessive force problem with the units you have installed? You are in California so your weather may prevent it from being common, but it is just the most frustrating thing. If you have had the problem, would you please share how to fix it?
    I just had one of these installed for me. My father's old 8500 works great. But this new one has been nothing but problems. It will work for about 3 days, then when the temperature changes, it will stop working. Various error codes show up, like excessive closing force detected error code 4-1 and motor control 1-5. I understand that this is related to the removal of the cable tension monitor. The problem is that temperature changes fool the unit into thinking there is excess closing force when their isn't. I live in Illinois and the temperature varies greatly in February (and March, which is just around the corner). Liftmaster has claimed that it has a firmware update that fixes this common and recurring problem, and MyQ is supposed to update the firmware automatically when needed. BUT THERE IS NO WAY FOR MY DEALER to force an update. And apparently the fix has not yet been approved for automatic update.
    My dealer has had to be out at least 4 times since the unit was installed just so it can reset itself and operate until there is another change in the weather. This is frustrating beyond words, and I am not the only customer with this problem. It is said to be a flaw in the original firmware that they have made essentially impossible to fix until they get around to it - or my dealer, who has been golden in the past with numerous door openers for the three garage doors we have, is somehow entirely inept, which I do not believe to be the case. Please help if you can!

    • @shredmonster76
      @shredmonster76 7 месяцев назад

      the wall mount operators are a great way to clean up the appearance of your garage, the downside is that they are far more sensitive to poorly installed or poorly maintained doors. your experience will depend on the condition of your door and technician that installs the operator. Since you said Chamberlain, I am assuming you are buying a retail unit. If you intend to install it yourself, do a thorough inspection of your door and test its operation manually to identify any issues before you buy the operator.

    Just had a professional install one of these and am getting some error codes on a double door. The door goes up just fine. Upon closing, it goes down about 6 inches then goes back up. (Profile 1)
    From what I can gather in your other videos/comments. It sounds like adjusting the springs 2 quarter inch turns to make the door heavier and adjusting the door rails up so there is some downward rake takes care of this issue? Any advice?

    I think the wire length for the supplied wall button is more than adequate. It is plenty to mount the wall button to the jamb under the operator. If you want it somewhere else, then the electrician should have wired the house for that and had the wires wherever the customer wants them. That's not the responsibility of the manufacturer to determine where someone wants things mounted in any way, because every house/person is different. Your solution is what we do also for genie and LM wall mounts. We put the wired button on the jamb and wireless wherever the customer wants, if it's not already wired properly. Also, i doubt that they could have a wireless wall station with motion/lcd ect. that would work very long before the batteries drain. The battery technology isn't there. Nor does it make sense having to charge via usb the wall station. I do enjoy your videos coming from a professional viewpoint, we all have our opinions. I do still like the Genie units better than the electrical issue plagued LiftMaster/Chamberlain units of the last few years.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  9 месяцев назад

      Wow! This is fantastic feedback! You make very strong points. I agree with you that it's not LiftMaster's responsibility to determine where to have the wall button positioned. In theory the wall button could be placed anywhere, thus the wire would work just fine. I'm always looking for a new perspective. This gives me much to think about when making the full review.
      Tell me, what are your thoughts on garage door R Value efficiency?😅

    As a lifelong low voltage system installer and repair tech, carrying a spool/box of any wire type in one's truck/van that one is most likely to need for 90% of installs is basic preparedness. I always did so myself, and I made sure that any of the techs I supervised were likewise prepared. The same goes for caddies of screws/bolts/anchors, a pack of various size zip ties to clean up wiring, etc. Expecting a manufacturer to toss in everything necessary to install a product (or at least 90% of installs) is pretty foolish, and experience has proven time and time again that when manufacturers do throw in hardware, it's the cheesiest pot metal garbage out there and the wire is steel, not copper.

      Thanks for the feedback. Is there a specific gauge you prefer using?

    • @dionh70
      @dionh70 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@sosgds 1pair18g stranded copper was always reliable, and I preferred that to solid copper because solid copper wiring had a nasty tendency to occasionally break during installation, almost always in the most difficult pulls, making it the most frustrating troubleshooting/replacement. Worse, the solid wire would sometimes deliver intermittent failure because the metal would carry current at times and other times not, and the customers would report completely unpredictable problems.

    I got that same model last week, already on my second service call tomorrow. The system is garbage as the cable on the spool keeps getting loose which causes the cable to fall off the spool on both ends. I would not recommend this junk. Wireless wall stations would be a big mistake. Being able to have all the functionality that you get from the LM wall station is a massive deal on hi-lift and full vertical doors. Switching to a wireless would mean the homeowner would need a tall ladder every time they wanted to add a remote or keypad, program a car, extra light, etc. The app would help with some of that but i go LM over Genie on tall doors for that reason every time. Well, that and the plastic genie clutch is a joke.
